Dasus I hope you are feeling better
Yes, sending you good thoughts!
Heccuba |
GM, I wonder if it might not be time to look for another player? It has been almost a month since we have heard anything from Dasus.
GM Abraham |
Yes, this is probably a good idea. I'll post in the recruitment thread and see if we get someone. If Dasus comes back we can easily just continue with him and any new player who wishes to join.
Ylosani |
Hello. I would like to throw my hat in the ring for the replacement spot. I am definitely a frontliner, but I'm not sure about going through the whole spire. I played floor 1 already but not 2.
Obviously, if you get a front-liner who wants to do the whole run, I'll bow out.
Dasus |
Still alive, but still coughing just enough that dictating is painful. So yeah, replacement is cool and hopefully I can rejoin eventually.
It doesn't seem to be anything serious, it's not getting worse, and I was tested earlier this week to make sure wasn't pneumonia. (It isn't.)
I'm starting to think it's a mild food allergy making me cough. Going to do a little experimenting to see if cutting back on anything particular helps. But who knows how long it will take. :-(
Heccuba |
The reason that I suggested getting another player after a month is bec7ae I got in trouble DMing a PFS gmae for keeping a character after the player left, we were in the middle if a fight and it would not have been a good thing to lose the character but I got in trouble nonetheless.

Welcome Ylosani! Go ahead and dot in to the gameplay thread. The party is (hopefully) nearing the end of the first fight. We'll have you join in when the fight is over. Someone else also expressed interest and if they show up I'll be happy to have them as well, and then when we get to the end of the level we can take stock.

Glad to hear from you! Please take as long as you need and we'll welcome you back in whenever you feel able. With your permission, I'll keep botting Dasus just until the end of this fight (which I think is likely nearly over), just to keep the gameplay flow moving.

Yes, agreed. The only reason I thought it was ok was because Dasus had told us he might be unwell for a bit and had told us to bot him as needed. But it will be better to have another PC aboard and then Dasus can jump back in when he's feeling better.
GM Abraham |
Just wanted to alert everyone that I've had some interest in joining the game, both for one or two players who would jump in now (as soon as this fight ends), and another couple of players who would like to jump in for other levels (that they may have missed when the previously played through). I hope that's suitable to everyone and it means that our group size may ebb and flow between 4 and 6 as we go along.
Altovin Prynn |
That is fine with me. Always happy with more company in this dungeon. Only slightly biased as I was a fill in as well. Lol.
Firewarden Yanda |
I just saw the PM. Is there a slot still open for this character on spire level 3?
GM Abraham |

Yes, you and one other person expressed interest, so I'll take both of you, bumping us up to a party of 5 (with Dasus temporarily dropping out for health reasons). Go ahead and dot into the gameplay thread.
GM Abraham |
What might our numbers look like per level?
Hard to say but right now we will be at 5 (two new additions joining us, at least for this level, and one leaving us, hopefully only temporarily). We'll reevaluate when we get to the end of this level and see who wants to continue through the whole spire (at least one of the new PCs expressed uncertainty about that), whether Dasus is ready to rejoin, and whether either of the other folks who've expressed interest in joining just for certain specific levels are still interested. We'll also need to see how the difficulty level feels for everyone. The Spire was written with parties of 4 in mind but I played it with parties of 6, and some levels felt too easy for us, but we were also a pretty optimized bunch.
In short, let's get through level 3 with this party of 5, and see how it looks after that.
Also, please polish off these two dudes! Neither of them has been scratched yet! :-)
Firewarden Yanda |
So which are the active characters? Is this the right list?
Altovin
Dasus
Heccuba
Romulus
and my character, Yanda, of course
GM Abraham |
The active group is now:
Altovin
Heccuba
Romulus
Yanda
Ylosani
Dasus has faded away (due to IRL health concerns - get well soon, Dasus!) but will hopefully return when he's able.
Yanda and Ylosani can act once their turn in the initiative comes up but please go ahead and add your tokens on the stairs at the upper left of the map. Also please add your relevant info on the third slide when you have a chance.
Regarding what is happening, a quick recap: the Emerald Spire is a mysterious dungeon just a short distance from Fort Inevitable, a small town in the River Kingdoms that is ruled by Hellknights. Little is known about the Spire but there appears to be a massive green ?needle? monolith? something? that runs through its various levels, descending to a depth known to no pathfinder.
The party previously encountered a band of goblins on level 1 (the Tower Ruins) and undead and creepy spiders on level 2 (the Cellars) - I took over as GM part way through level 2. After a lengthy convalescence back in Fort Inevitable (there was some unpleasantness involving poison), they have just now reentered the Spire, descending to its 3rd level (Splinterden). This room is the first room the group has entered and they have encountered two humans who are clearly hostile. One of these humans rang a very loud bell, first a single time, and then again with two peals of greater urgency.
Firewarden Yanda |
So we have a witch, bard (archer), life oracle (mostly), and alchemist bomber. So far it looks like we all like to stay in the back. I hope Ylosani is a melee character.

The GM smiles an evil smile... "What could possibly go wrong?"
Firewarden Yanda |
Yanda brought a mule. Did any of the other characters bring a mount/beast of burden?
Is there a place to keep it while we delve?
Firewarden Yanda |
Which is fine. It is a pack animal and has extra acid and fire flasks as well as some other heavy gear that it would be nice to get at between encounters.
GM Abraham |
As a samurai, Ylosani has a horse somewhere...I assume he's tied to a tree outside the spire.
So far, both the horse and the mule could have accompanied you up to this point. You have descended some stairs (many, actually), but nothing that they couldn't handle. Whether or not you wish to bring them with you, or leave them tied up outside the spire, or happily back munching oats in the stables of Fort Inevitable, is up to you.
As a general rule, I don't believe in unfairly penalizing PCs for the nature of their build. Some characters are built around their mounts and I would allow them to bring in into the spire, though of course there will be some areas where it may present unique challenges! For the mount... :-)
Firewarden Yanda |
Yanda is happy to leave the mule in the room at the bottom of the stairs. it should be fine while they expore around, as long as they are not teleported far away or something.
Altovin Prynn |
Hard to say as Jaidz is NG and a lot of NG canon paladin codes do not explicitly say to intervene on evil acts.
It is harder to intervene in PbP space as I dont get to till after it happens and PvP isn't allowed so it gets rather difficult.
Jaidz biggest thing is courage and potential. So I kind of brushed it off instead of potential party conflict atm.
Heccuba |
I really thought that they had died. I guess that is what I get for not using a heal check to see if they were still alive.
Ylosani |
Ylosani doesn't care about his horse at all. He hasn't even bothered naming it.
I'm working on his riding skills but for next level when I get to use a boon that will let him ride an axebeak.
GM Abraham |

Ha, no worries!
Heccuba |
Sorry about the lag in posting. I went to an early Palm Sunday Mass, had to go grocery shopping, grabbed dinner, ate, laid down and fell asleep :)
GM Abraham |
I will be traveling Wednesday to Sunday and will be able to post only sporadically.
Firewarden Yanda |
Hey, any of you know if there are any alchemical creations to put out fires. I really would love for Yanda to get something like that but could not find anything.
GM Abraham |
Hmm, I'm wondering if my posts are confusing for some of you? It seems like some important details are getting lost in the shuffle. Let me know if there's anything I can do to make it easier for you to follow them.
GM Abraham |
Metagame summary of the situation for anyone who is feeling lost:
Ylosani |
I think my previous confusion was that you had on the card "Pending a save from Ylosani." It would have been clearer if you would have said "Saves for Ylosani rolled, pending confirmation if he's going to use Resolve." I didn't know that the saves had already been rolled and was waiting for my turn to roll them.

Ah, ok, that's good to know. I try to keep the text in the initiative card fairly brief so sorry for the confusion! I think you have one use of Resolve remaining, yes? (Your profile says you only have 1 use, and you've used it once, but I think as a 3rd level samurai you should have 2 uses?). Unless you have another suggestion for how to streamline it, I'll just plan to put any saves you make in a spoiler so you can decide whether or not you are using it before you look.
Altovin Prynn |
I knew that gate was gonna be trouble but Altovin wouldn't have thought of it lol. At least they didnt open it and heal the other two.

Haha. I would have done that but unfortunately the lever is on your side. :-(
