APPEARANCE

Ylosani is pretty big…for a Tengu. Standing at 5’ and weighing in at 100#, he’s as big as a petite human but is a giant amongst his kind. Although he is always scrupulously groomed, there is something indefinably haggard about his appearance. Though his feathers are well groomed, they are dull, a matte black rather than the shine common to Tengu plumage. His eyes are a disconcertingly deep, empty black. Even his beak is a matte black color.

BACKGROUND

Ylosani was once a proud citizen of Kwanlai. He was a samurai dedicated to protecting the nation from all threats. His daimyo took a great deal of pride in his samurai and wanted to demonstrate their skills to all the world, even the distant lands across the crown of the world.

The brave band made their way to the most dangerous place they could find, the Worldwound. They were woefully unprepared for what they came across. His band was slaughtered and Ylosani left mortally wounded, the only survivor.

A group of unscrupulous mercenaries found him as they were leaving the area and nursed him back to health but imprisoned him. When they arrived in Absalom, they sold him as a slave.

He was forced to perform the simplest, dirtiest manual labor but submitted meekly, believing it was an acceptable punishment for his failure.

This continued until the Fiendflesh Siege when the Pathfinders came around and offered all the slaves their freedom if they were willing to fight by the Pathfinder's side.

Almost reluctantly, he took them up on their offer, joining a group of Order of the Shield Cavaliers on their missions to stop the siege.

They were impressed by his fighting abilities and one of them took him on as a squire, training him in the ways of the Order and providing him with the appropriate gear for a knight of his standing.

He feels that he owes the Society his fealty and has made an oath to join and aid them to the best of his ability.

PERSONALITY
--------------------
Dour is the best description for Ylosani’s personality. Fatalistic would be another. His faith in himself and the world were shaken at his failure and he considers his life after that point to be a gift that he did not earn and a debt that must be repaid.

He is prone to throwing himself into danger to save others and fully expects for the worst to happen at every turn.

In his darker moments (which are fairly common) he refers to himself as “Buzzard Bait.”
