Gunnar Thorstein |
So, what happened to Methada’s character in-game? Did she decide against going with us to see the wizard?
Kalisuel |
Maybe the twigbois' boss got her?
By the way, I hope you're enjoying Kali's introduction so far. I promise, she won't always be this slow to help.
Vrindel. |
@Tareth
The post spoilered Gunnar, but I think that's for Vrindel, right? 7 HP, 1st leve slot, and 2nd slot?
Is it clear what is causing the attack on Vrindel, because it doesn't seem like it's the 3 briarkin?
Can Vrindel see the briarkin in the water with his 16 Perception? If yes, how far? He could have swam 60 feet closer last round? Could he have attacked last round? Or only this round?
thanks
DM - Tareth |
Vrindel: The spoiler for Gunnar is for his arcane/nature rolls on what he knows of the briarkin.
You do see what is attacking you. You just didn't see them quick enough to avoid a surprise. They are leech like water worms and completely unrelated to the briarkin, but it would take your own nature/arcana roll to learn more. In fact, anyone might think the briarkin in the pond is actually afraid (but nobody can really see that yet.)You can still cast, attack the worms, or try to swim away.
As for seeing in the water, you could hear something splashing around on the opposite side of the pond, but you stated you were getting out of line of sight so moved farther away. With all of the water plants, roots, etc your PP wouldn't be effective in the water with the distance. I'd also say it was the same as having dim light given the shadows from the trees.
Vrindel. |
Ahh! I get it now. So, Vrindel knows that the water is bad.
I'm good with being out of line of sight, but I thought that there were three of them and one of them fell into the water, that went out the window.
The pulse of fey magic within you can sometimes reach out, usually when your emotions are strongest. If you revel and enjoy yourself, others are likely to want to join in and have their spirits lifted. When you are angry, those around you feel it like a wave of heat pricking their skin.
cheers
DM - Tareth |
One did fall in the water, but far from your position since you were out of sight.
It's other creatures in the water, not the water itself. :)
So the pond isn't really a portal or ley line. So the gleam wouldn't really apply. It's just a pond, but home to some unusual critters. Now how they got there....well there is a witch in the region.
Kalisuel |
Ffffuuuuuuuuun. ;)
Well, guess I better go see if Kali can add some sweet music to the mix.
Brother Aterro |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Remember Zoom calls go better with the simple motto: Business on top, no pants on bottom.
Or maybe that's just me.
Kalisuel |
Ouch, minimum damage on both attacks. I feel for Aterro at the moment.
Vrindel. |
@Tareth
I just realized that the damage Vrindel took was in croc form which had 19 HP. By your descripion, I think all that HP damage was taken in croc form. Obviously the loss of spell levels hit Vrindel directly.
Just checking to align
cheers
Kalisuel |
Oof, that's not good. Hope your recovery is a speedy one!
Finnigan Calhoun |
Hey! If it ain't the old rogue's rogue of roguishness! It's certainly still rockin' and Tareth's done a bang up job. Are you thinking about coming back? I'm sure the DM would be happy to have you.
Hey thanks so much for the warm hello! I am not looking to rejoin, just reading along to see what shenanigans you guys have gotten into.
Gunnar Thorstein |
OMG I hope this works! It would be amazing to fry that twig with his own bombs!
Kalisuel |
I've been working on a character ref sheet for Kali. Link
It's rough, but I hope it helps with visualizing what she looks like a little more.
Vrindel. |
Hey guys
I was really looking forward to role-play the whole Rook Bentknee connection that Tareth developed. So, can we just handwave to explain that we now know and are all fast friends?
cheers
Kalisuel |
I was too. I guess we can flex time it as we fight the ghouls.
Brother Aterro |
So other than Vrindel, others would not be armored, since the warning of the storm just roused the camp moments ago.
Whoa whoa whoa, hold up there, Tex.
DM, how hard you makin' this? As a WARcleric, and in hostile lands, where he was just attacked by sentient mold, and around two new people, with a witches curse on him, and having not worn in armor in too long, and being a master at wearing heavy METAL, I was sort of assuming I'd be wearing my armor to bed.
(It can be done. Having slept in full BDU kit, in a foxhole, sitting up, and still done plenty of running and digging the next day, you don't really need 8 hours in a feather bed to get full rest.)
DM - Tareth |
Meh...I guess I could go either way. I generally assume PC's aren't sleeping in gear. But I do see the point of being in hostile territory, etc.,etc.
The impacts of sleeping in full gear might be higher over a longer journey than this will be. Or there could be other circumstances where it is more disruptive. So I reserve the right to drop an exhaustion check or require a roll to actually receive the benefits of a long rest when sleeping in full armor on occasion.
In order to avoid back and forth over who is wearing armor in camp vs. who isn't I'll assume people are when outside of an inn or safe sanctuary of some kind. However, if someone posts that they are out of their armor for some reason (ie. bathing, making repairs, polishing it to a sparkling shine, etc.) then it's off until a post has the armor being put back on. Which might mean after a combat if the group or individual is caught unaware.
So since I haven't rolled an attack roll yet, everyone can be armored.
Also a quick note, I have a totally packed work day today, so I won't be able to get an actual post up until late tonight, or more likely, tomorrow.

Some tactical questions:
If they are 10 feet away, did Aterro's thing affect them?
How line up are they, if Vrindel Tidal Waves them left to right, 10 feet by 30 feet area, how many can he get?
cheers
DM - Tareth |
Sorry, tired brain last night. What I meant to say is they only advanced 10 feet in the difficult terrain of the spell. So that would put the two leads 20 away. Because of the Plant Growth slowing the charge substantially, they have bunched up a bit more after one round. Anyone can now get three with and area effect spell.
Gunnar Thorstein |
Where are we in the initiative count? Is the party up as a group, or are you planning to call for actions individually?
Gunnar Thorstein |
Is the ghoul leader in metal armor?
Kalisuel |
Either way, I think you gave him a good jolt.
And sorry Gunnar, I was going to heal you, but Aterro was just slightly worse off. I'm hoping to get you next round.
And on the topic of recruitments, do you want me to see if I know anyone who's interested in a 5e Midgard game?
Brother_Guiness |
Yeah, crap for damage but at least a palpable hit. It was between that and taking the Dodge action (which he would have done instead if he were more injured). Thankfully he can pump his AC to 23 with the Shield spell a few more times before he is tapped out.
Kalisuel |
I've got some healing spells, and I can do a song of healing after the fight, assuming that doesn't mess with getting the MAX HP reduced by 18 off me.
I was thinking about illusions, but it seemed like a better idea to focus on thinning numbers quickly rather than trying to befuddle their minds.
Now I'm kinda wishing that I'd taken Vicious Mockery. That would have been perfect for her roasting of the shadowmancer. Maybe I'll pick it up when I get another cantrip, or perhaps I can get an item that lets me do it. ;)
Brother Aterro |
Oh yeah, vicious mockery is the bard's bread and buttah! No cantrip is as cool or as useful. A d4 is a tad light for damage, but that it gives Disadvantage on attacks?!? Priceless!
And it works on everyone! Undead included!
Oh yeah, I don't know what spells you have, but you need the 'Mock! =)
Kalisuel |
Kali's specialty is illusions. She does have a good selection of healing magic at her disposal, but that's not what I see her primary role as. I just figured having another character that could patch us up would be a good thing. :)
And just so everyone knows, here's Kali's spell list:
Cantrips - Mending, Minor Illusion, Prestidigitation (My favorite spell in any d20 game. I have a lot of fun with it.)
1st - Cure Wounds, Disguise Self, Feather Fall, Healing Word, Silent Image
2nd - Invisibility, Lesser Restoration
3rd - Major Image
Brother Aterro |
Hey Kalisuel, quick question: Why don't you use a shield?
Kalisuel |
For a few reasons:
1. I don't have one.
2. Kali's a better archer than swordsman, so her main weapon is her bow. Melee's more of a plan b for when her bow is out of commission or something gets into her face.
3. My goal was going for as much damage as possible to end the fight soonest, so using both hands on the sword rather than one and holding a shield seemed a wiser move.
Kalisuel |
Woo!
EDIT:
So, I hope it's okay if we loop back a bit. I was hoping to have a chance to get to know one another before going to sleep before this fight. I figured we could do that and keep things moving by just flex-timing things a bit.
Also, GM, I was picturing the wounds that the Captain's call of the empire spell gave us aren't all that serious individually, but all of them together are a rather serious threat to our health that there is necrotic corruption in the wounds that prevent them from closing, even with healing magic. To be able to heal up again, you have to flush out the corruption from all of the wounds, and that's why you have to take a rest. Is that about right?
Vrindel. |
You call forth a nature spirit to soothe the wounded. The intangible spirit appears in a space that is a 5-foot cube you can see within range. The spirit looks like a transparent beast or fey (your choice).
Until the spell ends, whenever you or a creature you can see moves into the spirit's space for the first time on a turn or starts its turn there, you can cause the spirit to restore 1d6 hit points to that creature (no action required). The spirit can't heal constructs or undead. The spirit can heal a number of times equal to 1 + your spellcasting ability modifier (minimum of twice). After healing that number of times, the spirit disappears.
Gunnar Thorstein |
Gunnar is down 22 hp, so he will take what you are willing to give, but others are hurt too, so a short rest may be in order.
While the items of interest are being cleaned by the rain, Gunnar will execute the ritual for detect magic (and identify as needed).
Edit: He will also detect on the shield and weapon the spirits appeared to bless.
Kalisuel |
Kali will need a short rest to be able to heal anything. Her current max is 11 hp.
Gunnar Thorstein |
I currently have Gunnar set up on milestone advancement since I started...Could someone tell me the appropriate XP total for him right now? Would it be the same as everyone else?
Kalisuel |
Do we level now, or next long rest?
I'm getting the feeling Kali's going to be a lot like Aterro's little sister. She'll drive him mad with her teasing, mark my words! :P
Brother Aterro |
No, surely, I was just musing on how much better the mace is since the damage is the same, but it is +1. ;)
