I'm not too worried. I imagine there'll be lots of apologies and sprucing of the spear in the future.
Actually, this brings up something I'm curious about, how ornate is the spear? If it's rather plain, I imagine that Kali will be giving it a makeover, hopefully to Aerie's delight. :D

So, reading up on valkyries. ;D
In Midgard, it seems they are planar creatures native to the thrice-conjoined planes of Valhalla, the Storm Court, and Geirrhoth. Geirrhoth is the plane of spears sometimes confused with the Hell of Blood, one of the setting's 'Eleven Hells'. That's because its a constant battlefield, and each night the ghosts of the slain return to flesh...a warrior's heaven.
They have a preferred ley line used for travel, called the Shield Maiden's Fancy. This ley line vanishes or surges under excess sun or storm. Some also have the ability to navigate the planar paths of Yggdrasil. This makes them quite experienced far-travelers.
They can shapeshift between humanoid and swan form.
There are also mortal valkyries, which is a PC paladin subclass.
This one is Aerie (Aerefynia Alevitma Ilyinishva). Their names have specific meanings like (some spear related examples):
• Geirahöð or Geirahöd: “Spear-Battle,” or “Spear of Battle”
• Geiravör: “Spear-Vör”
• Geirdriful: “Spear-Flinger”
• Geirönul, Geirrönul, Geirömul, or Geirölul: “The One Charging Forth With the Spear”
• Geirskögul: “Spear-Rager”
'Valkyrie' itself is of course “Chooser of the Slain”
---------------------
Puzzles that need solving:
a. Why would Aerie be afraid of Radovan's machine? Is it because being an interplanar creature she has some special insight into the ley lines? Or does she know where the intrusive line leads?
b. What does Aerefynia Alevitma Ilyinishva mean? Could Comprehend Languages get some insight?
c. Can the shaft be removed and the spine-and-socket be wielded like a short blade? (asking for a friend)

Vrindel. |

Can the Thorspear be used as a Druid focus and be wielded like a shillelagh?
Asking for a friend.
Cheers

Kalisuel |

In regards to Scram's C...
Yes, it's possible, but the one smith that's handy isn't about to let you try it, nor will she do it for you.

S: 'Hey, you have something stuck up your butt...big piece of wood looks like.'
A: *energizes shaft with warning blast of Thor lightning*
S: *reflex save* '...er no really, I can get that out if you want.'
A: *commits murder*

Kalisuel |

Seems pretty accurate. :P

DM - Tareth |

I'll try to answer some of the questions you all have asked. Sorry for the delay.
The Thorspear was once wielded by Thor himself. Therefore the entire item is imbued with his power. Who knows what separating the head from the shaft might do but it will likely eliminate much, if not all, of the items power.
It is metal and crafted, so I'm not sure if it would be a true druidic focus as those are typically more 'natural.' However, if Thor's connection to storms and other natural type events might allow it if one became more directly devoted to the god. This might be something of an RP opportunity and require a bit of a side quest. To wield it as a Shillelagh is possible, but it is oversized. More like a Pike than a quarterstaff is what we agreed early on I believe.
The Valkyrie was not originally part of the spear, but was attracted to after being summoned a few times through the Guardian Spirits spell. Who knows what her ongoing motivations will be. ;)

Scramsax |

So yeah, I guess Psychic Blades cant do stuff normal blades can like cut a roast duck etc. Guess that's the tradeoff for infinite range.

Scramsax |

If we weren't in the middle of collapsing planar rupture right now... The spear fumes and grumbles in Kalisuel's head. Do you realize that halfling seriously considered parting me out like some used dwarven airship? Do you?!
Hey that was me, not Scram. Scram wanted to sell it (her) to buy an island. ...which may or may not have involved converting the spear into a different type of weapon.
Am I on trial for my thoughts now?!?! (jk ;) )

DM - Tareth |

Whoops. Well, it is a sentient magic item, so she probably would have sensed something...unsettling...about Scramsax.
Still, my bad for mixing it up. I'll have her be less certain, she must have just imagined it. Maybe being so close to the ley lines mixed her up a little. Yes, that's it. Too close to the ley lines. ;)

Scramsax |

Fair enough. Lack of pipe/leaf probably.
And heads up, he's definitely going to speak to her again to find out more about Coin. XD

Either way, doesn't really change Kali's reaction. She's a smith and she's holding a weapon forged for a god. She ain't about to let that go for some mere coin. :)

*sits back*
*grabs popcorn*
"Heh, little lady didn't know how good she had it with me."

Scramsax |

Understandable, he'll probably have to steal it (as always). Temporarily. And without getting killed instantly.
What's Thor and the Valkyries without a little Loki?

Kalisuel |

If Scram's Loki, I'm assuming that Aterro is Thor. Aerie is obviously a Valkyrie, Gunnar's a dwarf and Vrindel's a Norn, so what does that make Kali?

Scramsax |

Sounds about right.
I also meant literally though, maybe behind the scenes the actual Loki is up to something. Messing with one of Thor's divine instruments seems to be within his purview.

Kalisuel |

I guess we're waiting on Aterro?

Str!: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Str Advantage!: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10"Whoa!" is all Aterro has time to yelp before he finds his feet quite un-purposefully lifted from solid ground.
"How am I gonna get out of this one?" he mumbles to himself, calling on Thor's aid with a quick spell, trying to become a master of flight...right now.
In another (much more corny) dimension that Queen Bee he banged buzzes in at the last second for a deus ex machina. XD

In an even more corny dimension, he'd fall into the void only to come back two seasons later. :P

In the dimension next to that one he gets his own adventure, "Aterro Knows Best." A now slightly overweight Thorson is married to a comely elf, and has two sons, a dwarf and a troll. The kids are always getting into trouble, and Aterro always overreacts, because their idyllic home is on an island in the middle of a lake of fire.

You made me.
I understand that someone is killing them all. I just don't understand why.
Also, needed more topless chick.

Scramsax |

I like the spaceships part. Oh, and the falcon/house thing that makes no sense and has no point.

Kalisuel |

So, I just learned that Kali's the second strongest character in the party. I was not expecting that since she's supposed to be a petite thing and I just gave her enough strength to be decent in melee.
Oh, and Scram, you can act now. Kali gave you 11 hit points back.

Scramsax |

Great dungeon romp. :D It's going to be a memorable one for me, I can already tell.

Kalisuel |

Definitely memorable! I think the Thorkite is going to be a highlight.
How bad off is everyone? I can burn some spells to help get us back up. Kali is doing pretty good.

Scramsax |

I've still got 6d8 of short rest HD to burn, so would say hold off unless the shadow fey threat is right on top of us.

Kalisuel |

We should probably check on our resident dabbler-in-things-best-left-untouched then. :P

Scramsax |

Wait, is Radovan uploading his mind to the Matrix (Vee) since his body is failing...or is Vee uploading her mind to Radovan to escape slave-botism?
edit: Also, if Scram could be loaded up with +saves he wouldnt mind risking another telepathic peek.

Kalisuel |

I hadn't thought of that. I did think that it was possible that Vee got caught up in whatever got Radovan because she may have tried to help him.

Kalisuel |

Same here, but take care of yourself first. We'll be here. :)

Scramsax |

On my morning hour commute I remembered that archdevil or what Vrindel found but didnt tell anyone about. Wonder if that escaped... XD

Vrindel. |

Huh? What archdevil?

Scramsax |

Vrindel wanders around the laboratory wide-eyed. He cannot imagine being anywhere more out of nature than here. He listens to Britta but does not know how to help Radovan. After an anxious tour, he leaves the wizard’s self-prison and explores the rest of the tower for inspiration about this fine mess or the hot mess that brought them to seek the wizard’s counsel.
You leave the workroom. Finding several other doors plus the stairway back down, you decide to explore the remainder of this area first.
The first door is a rather elegant and lavishly furnished washroom, complete with running hot and cold water. The seat even seems to warm itself when in use. It seems some of the rumors regarding the luxuries of arcane knowledge are quite true. The second door is locked.
You try a third and it opens into a dimly lit bedroom. A great four post bed complete with canopy and silken sheets dominates the far wall. A wardrobe and a nightstand sit next to it. Along another wall is a tidy desk with a dimly burning candle to provide light. Opposite the light, shadowed by the bed is a large chair seemingly occupied. Unfortunately the occupant is completely shrouded in shadow except for a narrow, somewhat pointed chin and a naked crimson torso.
"Do come in." A sotto voice beckons just as the tower begins to shake and rattle from some unknown source.
"Umm. Nope. Sorry. Wrong room." The trollkin quickly closes that door and scurries back to the laboratory.
When he returns, he looks at everyone with an I'm-not-guilty look and asks, "do we have a plan yet?"
Not sure what it was but sounded fiendish.

Vrindel. |

Oh that! Well, if Radovan doesn't wake up AND the tower is not flooded with a faerie army, we can tour the tower and run into him. And if he's not there, then Vrindel can mention his odd introduction.
cheers

Scramsax |

No worries was just brainstorming some loose strings. And yes I'm not supposed to read your spoilers anyways...but honestly I cant help myself.

Kalisuel |

Same. But I like to think I do a fairly good job of not mixing character and player knowledge.
There's a part of me that would really like for Kali to run into him, if nothing more than to see how she reacts.

Scramsax |

So, noting this here for convenience. Not sure what Scram would really know about these runes, but maybe some of your characters would.
Gern - Unknown.
Isaz - Ice, imprisonment, and paralysis; the gods Boreas and Mara
Naudiz - Necessity and need
Kaunen - Flaming torch, enlightenment, and ulcers
Nykoping - The passage of time, the seasons, and the phases of the moon
Might be spelling something that needs translation via comprehend languages.
In Vee's mind only, there was a third rune to accompany Kaunen and Naudiz:
Gebu: Generosity and hospitality, and gifts

Scramsax |

Aha, thanks for filling that missing piece, was thinking maybe proper noun or something.

Scramsax |

Sorry if I'm pestering, just trying to encourage some of that AdamWarnock writing Ive enjoyed in the past. :)

Oh, no worries. I'm still trying to get a feel for Kalisuel in some ways. Also been dealing with some mental stuff lately, so it's been a bit harder than usual to get into the groove. A little late for me to be writing something big, but I'll see what I have tomorrow when I get home from work.

Kalisuel |

Just positing this here to avoid cluttering up the Gameplay thread.
If Radovan's mind and spirit are missing, perhaps Scram and Vrindel could help us find them? Maybe if all of us go looking, we can bring Radovan's shattered psyche back together.
Could be a fun adventure touring the dreamscape and between places where spirits walk.

Scramsax |

I'm down for anything, though Id probably lean towards spirit since Vrindel (Jubal) is tired of reality bending stuff.

Kalisuel |

That's fair. So what's the plan for after we fix Radovan? Take him to Ilarya and have him take a look at the sword? Also, isn't there a neophyte goddess floating around somewhere nearby?
