5E Adventure's in Midgard – North (Reaver's Spring)

Game Master Tareth

A small merchant caravan led by Rook Bentknee, a kobold merchant, travels up the coast of the Bay of Ghed to deliver goods and trade with Rook's former adventuring companion and occasional business partner, Britta Gleamgaurd, human owner of the Frost Maiden Inn in the village of Nargenstal.

Fun fact, I just checked and 5E doesn't mess with the movement rates via armor type. Because its awesome.

Except of course this rule in the PHB, right? "Heavier armor interferes with the wearer's ability to move quickly, stealthily, and freely. If the Armor table shows "Str 13" or "Str 15" in the Strength column for an armor type, the armor reduces the wearer's speed by 10 feet unless the wearer has a Strength score equal to or higher than the listed score."

So I'm on the floor deliberately asking for help, and you're all just standing around snickering at me?

Class act, guys. Real top-notch RP.

Well not all. Only Ibrox is snickering. Trevor asked a question about it, fae guy answered, and I got so focused on the letter I forgot...

Sometimes it's not all about your character...

Hello all. First things first, I need to catch up on a little record keeping and award some experience points.

For the RP back in town everyone gains 250XP each.
For the battle with ghouls 440XP each.
For the portal, 100XP each.

So a total of 790 XP for each of you.

Now having said that, it feels like things are slowing down a bit and that interest levels are waning for a variety of reasons. As all good things eventually come to an end, I'd like to take the temperature of the group to see if folks would like to continue.

This point in the story could actually be a reasonable stopping point, as it would be easy to head back to town, report the ghoul (and now possible shadow fae) presence and retire from there. That is if most of you don't wish to continue.

If the desire to continue is still there, then I'm happy to keep going as long as we get at least three who want to go forward. That would give enough continuity within the group to continue any of the basic story lines in play, but allow room for new open recruitment and additional players to fill needed gaps.

Either way is completely fine by me. I've enjoyed running the game and creating this PbP experience with all of you. As I said, it's been a great run. It's also been a long one so I want to respect everyone's need to make a change if needed.

Please let me know if the next day or two if you can. You can either reply here or PM me if that works better for you.

Thanks all.

Woot! XP!

Mine slowness mostly comes from how little I know, but in the system and in game. I feel that will move on the more time I spend with the group.

However if the majority wishes to stop I won't stand in the way of that. After all I'm the newest member so I am totally fine with my opinion not being as strong as some others! ^_^

For the record, there was no snickering. Ibrox just smiled. It was consistent RP to the relationship that did not start on the right foot.

With respect to this campaign, let me be crystal clear: I. Love. This. Game.

Please continue.

As for immediate future, if we can get the elevator to work, I would think Allison would require us to pursue the undead for her mission. Especially to find more evidence of the shadow court connections.

Allison seems to be the only PC truly driven by an external force toward an immediate plot. The rest of seem to be exploring ourselves and waiting for the witch to drop the next test on our heads.

I realize I read the effect to mean that we can't cast spells for 10 hours, but I see I might be wrong there?
DM, is it that or just effects like my Tinkering?

...for that matter, can I make new Tinkerings? If we can still cast magic, I guess a can just re-do all my Tinkering.

(aaaand now tinkering is both a verb and a noun.)

No magic. No spells or effects. For 10 hours while within the bubble. So far, nobody has left the area to see how far the bubble actually extends.

So, I just wanna take a step back and reflect on how very very very much I like reading things like that. =)

I try very hard to make sure that each alias is more than just a set of numbers, but indeed is a completely different personality with their own thoughts and motivations.

I start by tying them to the setting, but in such a way that it fits their universal character.

Actually, Aterro Dominatus and Wraith are two of my favorite because they have such definite personalities.

Aterro will always by the blunt hammer. He's the line officer willing to charge up the middle into GLORIOUS COMBAT in unshaking resolve that the POWER OF THOR will see him through the day, so he has no need to do anything in half measures.

Wraith is the...wraith. She's self-centered and snarky and certainly a creature of the city. But she's also multi-purposeful, which almost always embodies itself with above-average usefulness in combat, with talents in sneaking/climbing and some kind of charisma, although her inability to shut her playboy mouth keeps her from being a true Face.

Hence, that's the great thing about reallllly getting to know a character. And it's really great when the character can take on such a life of their own that people start to have opinions on which they like better. =))

Hey all, just out of curiosity, do any of you know of an easy way to download or grab an archive of a pbp game? There are some good encounters, descriptions, NPC's and others things that have come up during this game and I'm hoping to try and capture them. It may be that copy/paste into a text file for each page is the only option, but I thought I'd see if anyone had other tools/ideas they've used.

Yes, best wishes of health!

So my mother in law will be alright, at least as alright as it can be. She has MS you see, and it has just progressed to a turning point. She has to be in a wheelchair now as the control of her body from the waist down is minimal at best, and it is in her brain which means she'll lose her eyesight in a year or so.

She is out of the hospital now, and is home. Monday all of her kids, my husband and his brothers, will all be sitting down to talk about what needs to be done. She either has to go into an assisted living facility or move in with one of us and will need almost 24 hour care.

Methada, I'm glad to hear your mother in law is out of the hospital. But sorry about the MS. I wish you and your family all the best with those hard conversations and decisions.

Timeskeeper, my best wishes of health, compassion, and temperance moving forward. As Tareth said so well, hard conversations...

Hey everyone, just a quick note to let you all know that Vrindel has decided to drop from the game. That still leaves us with four PC's, which is fine. I will bot Vrindel for a bit as we wrap up the most recent encounter, but will then write him out of the main story and into NPC land as we go forward.

Should we consider, for party composition sake, having Trevor repurposed as a cleric of Khors?

I don’t have strong views either way. Just thinking full caster.

Ibrox, since you've got Vrindel's okay to take over, I'm fine with it.

Here's the Night Whisper Trollkin blurb from the MHH:

Night Whisper Trollkin
Night whisper trollkin trace their ancestry to enigmatic fey creatures from the Shadow Realm. Because of theirnatural connection to the realm of spirits, many nightwhisper trollkin become shamans, seers, and priests.
Night whispers tend to have darker skin tones and slighter builds than their cousins.

Ability Score Increase. Your Wisdom score increases by 1.

Spirit Whispers. The spirits of your tribe’s ancestors whisper secrets from beyond the veil of death. Before making an ability check or saving throw, you can heed the wisdom of the spirits to gain advantage on the roll. You cannot use this feature again until you finish a long rest.

DM, I seem to have a typo on my character sheet.

I misspelled it "Armor of tools". Apparently the correct spelling is "Goggles of Night."

I hope you don't mind if I correct this linguistic error because STEALTH ARMOR NEED GOGGLES!!!

Mind you, I never realized how crucial Darkvision really can be, especially if you wanna play a stealthy character.

I just spent 15 minutes wondering if I could just re-skin as a half elf (I can't) before realizing that I could just re-tinker something because artificer.

(I know that scanford thought it was OP, but it's really not. {Also, that's the first I've ever seen Boots of Elvenkind referred to as OP.} It is, however, very, very versatile. Would -not- recommend for a beginner. But if you don't mind obsessively checking the internet for new ways to mess with things, this might be your bag.)

You're suggesting to go down by yourself.

Don't think it's a great idea to split the party

But Vrindel would enable you.

So to move things along, assume a Spider Climb

cheers

The choice to split the party is up to you all. You have the means to get everyone down if you want. Either way someone needs to post an action doing something.

Just a heads up work has been a bit busier than expected, a lot of people trying to leave at once because of the holiday coming up and some states closing down again. So if I don't get posting time tomorrow that is why. Though I'm off on Mondays so I should be able to catch up then!

Liberty's Edge

Fast 2 Dedicated 1 | +7 2d6 | HP: 22/22 | 27/18/19 | Perc: +2

This isn't splitting so much as scouting.

Mind you, at the same time, I can stealth, and now I have a ranged attack. Also, depending on things, I could present myself as the fore-most target, while you guys give fire support from further up. With Blur, it would be very hard for them to hit me, while you guys could just rain down the pain. =)

Hence, like, I could be 20 feet above them, pelting them with the Lightning gems, while blurred, and you all are 70 feet up, tossing down spells and javelins and stuff.

At the very least I should be able to snuff out an ambush before we all hit it.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of us in the USA.

Taking a break from posting today to be with my immediate family, eat too much, drink, and watch football.
