I would like to run a War for the Crown AP as PbP for level 1 Characters. Before we delve into the nitty gritty let me tell you about myself, how I run things and my expectations.

About me:
I have been DMing on and off for nearly the last 20 years, starting in D&D 3rd edition. I am married and have two kids. Aside from PbP games, I have a regular VTT game I play in and on the weekends if not spending time with the family, doing house or school work (in a dual Masters program), then I am usually playing a video game.

As to my style I enjoy in-depth roleplay but I am not the kind of guy to write a 1000 word description about the scene or a 500 word monologue about the NPCs thoughts on your actions of killing some goblins. The one exception is the first game post. I usually make these long and in depth. In other words, if you expect all my posts to be a novella I’m probably not the right GM for you. On the contrary, I welcome my players to write walls of text, I enjoy reading them. Just remember depending on the pacing, you might get ninjaed by other players or myself while you are writing that wall of text. Regarding walls of text, or posting in general, be sure to copy it into an external program before you post it just to make sure all the effort you spent doesn’t get lost! Good times for wall of texts are over the weekend. On the other side of things if you only like to post during combat or your post only ever consists of a one sentence action followed by a dice roll then I am definitely not the right GM for you. I do not like to rail road, I greatly prefer a collaborative experience with my players. I want you to be invested in advancing the story. I like to see roleplay in between combat and more details about your action then “I move and attack with a 18”.

I am not a rules lawyer, per say, and there may be times I even consult the group on rulings if it is something extremely technical. Conversely, if it is something trivial I may simply gloss over the RAW and make my own ruling. I generally will not do this in situations where it gives either party a serious advantage over the other. I am definitely ok with RAI, in some cases, over RAW. With all that said Pathfinder’s supposed to be fun, and I’ll do my best to keep it that way.

How I run the game:

=Dice Rolls=

Any rolls that are automatic, or pseudo automatic, such as Initiative, or if you say something like "every time we enter a room, I give it a quick scan", I make the rolls, so we don't have to wait. Likewise, I may make save rolls. I may also roll Perception, Sense Motive, and Knowledge checks as appropriate. All the rolls are above board, in spoilers to keep clutter to a minimum. I roll in either: (1) Alphabetic Order or (2) Initiative Order, as appropriate for the situation. If the Rolls are in a spoiler for GM they are meant for me. If they are spoilered with anything else like Initiative or Perception feel free to take a peek.

Any save whose result may result in very bad things for your character, I leave to you whenever possible. If you face a Save or Suck for instance, I don't like to roll the save for you. Your character, your karma, your luck . . .

If you plan to do something go ahead and throw out a roll to keep things moving. I can look at your character and adjust as necessary. For example, if you want to try and convince someone to do something roll a diplomacy check when you post what you are saying. If I feel what you said is really a bluff I will adjust the roll as necessary keeping your stats in mind. In combat, please account for everything relevant to your attack. For example, if you are an alchemist throwing a bomb, roll the attack, the direct damage, the splash damage and the misdirection if it misses. This is especially important as we get into higher levels to keep combat from bogging down.

=Game Flow=

One post per day minimum, excluding weekends. If you can post more often that is great and preferred. I encourage you to RP with each other and not just wait for me to make a post. I will always do my best to get in one post each weekday and one on the weekend. I generally check for posts around 7am Eastern and 2pm Eastern. However, I can often check multiple times between 7am eastern and 10pm Eastern, especially if people are posting frequently. During roleplay/story points I will advance the game as long as I have at least one person posting, unless there is a response needed from a specific character. For combat, I will wait 1 day before advancing the combat, unless you tell me ahead of time that you will be away and want me to play your character for you. In the event I skip your character, he/she will simply go on the defensive while he/she considers their next action.

I completely understand that RL events happen and can pull you away. The same will likely occur with me. In these cases, if you know in advance you will be away please let us know ahead of time so that we can set our expectations accordingly. If you do not post in over a week without prior notice I will PM you. If I do not receive a response to the PM in a weeks’ time I will consider you to have left the game and we may find a replacement for you. If you do reply to the PM, but it occurs frequently we may still find a replacement for you.

=Combat=

I will provide maps for combat situations via Roll20. There will be a link at the top of the page to the appropriate Roll20 campaign. You will need to login so I can create a token for you and give you access to move it around the board. I also, generally track HP on Roll20. All rolls however, are done here on the boards using the [ dice ] mechanics. When combat starts I will provide a listing of Init order. All players can go in any order within their grouping.

For example the Init order might look like this:
Round 1
>Player 1/Player5, Enemy 1/Enemy3, Player 4/Player 2/Player 3, Enemy 2

Player 1 & 5 can post their actions in any order and I will resolve them as appropriate. Then after Enemy 1 & 3 go Players 2-4 can post their actions in any order. If you post and someone’s earlier action effects your action I will take creative liberties. For example, if you magic missile a baddie that the Rogue just eviscerated, I’ll redirect your spell to a still-living target. This isn’t how I run things in a live game, but in a PbP, block initiative saves time and speeds up combat significantly.

=Player Discussion=

For any questions and concerns - please address these in the Discussion thread. That way everyone has the advantage of learning the answer to a specific question or ruling and we keep the gameplay thread less cluttered. When I post a ruling or what have you, I try to post a link to an appropriate reference document.

Note: I can be wrong, I'm not a perfect GM. When I am wrong, tell me and provide references. It is how we all learn.

=House Rules=

Actions: I'm a GM that does not punish the character for trying something new or cool, or even strange. Visually appealing actions are encouraged, the dc will of course depend on what are you trying, but you can try! I still try and follow the rules as appropriate, but I enjoy creative solutions.

Level up: I don’t level up based on XP. I level up based on your progression in the overarching story.

Sandbox vs Rail Road: This is not a very heavy Sandbox style type of game. As such, there is obviously heavy pre-defined story elements. However, I like players to help me drive the game, so I’m not opposed to throwing some Sandbox in there if it makes sense. As long as it does not completely derail the story I am open to creative avenues. If you do go someplace or attempt to do something beyond your skill I will attempt to warn you of the dangers, but I will not outright stop you.

Expectations:
As I’ve noted elsewhere I am expecting a minimum of 1 post per weekday. I expect you to work with me to tell the story, not just rely on me to rail road you everywhere. I expect that you understand taking part in a PbP AP is generally a multi-year endeavor. As such, before you apply make sure you are ready for that commitment. I know life happens, I’ve had to drop games in the past, and I won’t hold it against you, but please keep in mind the time commitment you are signing up for before you sign up. I expect that if you know you will be away for any extended period of time (holiday/vacation/etc) you will let me know ahead of time. I expect that if something comes up that has changed your circumstances or unexpectedly caused you to not be able to post you will give me a heads up as soon as you are able. I will provide an alternate means of contact in the event you want to reach out from a smarthphone, not only for the above, but also in the event there are issues with the forums. I expect that you have read over all of this. To show that you have, please send me a PM with the phrase “Ready to Rumble” when you have completed your application.

Now with all that out of the way, if you are still interested, then please read on. Let us talk about War for the Crown! War for the Crown is a particularly RP heavy game. There is still a good deal of combat but almost the entire first half of the first book is RP and skill checks. With that in mind, be sure that you build a well-rounded character! It can be difficult to get in a meaningful post at least 1/weekday when you focused everything about your character around combat and we are deep in RP/skill checks. I run a VTT game of this so I can tell you firsthand how sucky it is for a player when they have little to contribute to several hours’ (which in our case could likely be several weeks/months) worth of gameplay.

Below are the character creation guidelines and what is necessary for an application to be considered complete. I am looking for 4-6 players for this game. I will say, I am going to prioritize players that have a demonstrated posting history over people new to play by post because of the nature of this AP. Losing players can be extremely disruptive in any AP, but especially so an RP heavy AP like War for the Crown.

I will keep applications open until, Nov. 8 at 10pm Eastern. As such, I am looking to start the game by at least Nov 13. However, if there is an overwhelming amount of interest, I reserve the right to cut off the application window early. If you are really interested in playing this AP, I recommend you at least dot sooner rather than later. I will give 48-hour notice if I do decide to cut off the application window early. Once the application window has closed any dots or unfinished applications have 24 hours to complete their application. NOTE – You do not need to create an alias yet, but you are welcome to if you want.

If you have questions after all this, please let me know!

Character Creation Guidelines:

- Starting Level: 1
- Wealth: 160gp
- Classes: Core, APG, ACG allowed. No Occult. Can use unchained for Barb, Monk, Rogue, Summoner.
- Race: Standard races or Aasimer would be preferred. If you want to play something unusual I may allow it based on background. Keep in mind Taldor is very human-centric and generally looks down on other races, except Aasimer.
- HP: Max at 1st, half + 1 + con bonus after
- Attributes: 20 Point Buy, no stat below 8 before racial adjustments
- Traits: 2, 1 must be campaign trait.
- Drawback: 1 drawback is allowed for 1 additional trait. Be sure to incorporate your drawback in your character. WARNING: I will do my best to make sure your drawback does come into play at some point if you do take one.
- Background skills will be in use.
- No 3rd Party content (including the no feat tax rules)

Application requirements:

0-1) Read over everything in this initial recruitment post and follow instructions.
0-2) Download & read the Players Guide. This will provide a lot of help and insigh for the other requirements.
1) Develop character concept. Crunch does not need to be complete, but it can be. Character concept should include the following:
- Class
- Alignment
- Characters link to Taldor, and specifically Oparra: How long have you been in Oparra? Are you a resident? If not, why are you here now?
- Livelihood: How does/has your character make a living?
- Motivation: Why are you interested in Taldan politics? Why would someone take interest in you regarding politics?
- Rollplay vs Roleplay: How will your character contribute to the group in combat? What about out of combat?
- Progression: How do you plan to mechanically develop the character (ie dips, multiclassing, PrCs, etc)? If you don't have a plan yet, that is ok.
- Background: What is the characters backstory? Doesn't need to be a novel, but at least 1-3 paragraphs of an overview. (IE what is your history, what are you doing now and what are you trying to achieve in the future)
2) Let me know your time zone and the time(s) of day you will most likely be able to post.
3) Tell me about your experience with PbP? How many PbP games are you currently participating in?

Definitely interested in this. I've wanted to play this AP for some time now.

Dotting for interest.

Very interested as well!

Emphatic Dot. Not going to lie, I really want to make the antithesis character. A real "KRUG SMASH PINK FLESHY THING" sort of character. Intimidate is a social skill...

EDIT: Also useful for stealth. "YOU NOT SEE KRUG!"

Dotting for interest. Thinking about a charakter concept.

I'm interested in this. Only one thing: I don't own the player's guide for this. What are the campaign traits for this?

I probably will have some sympathies with the Senate in Taldor. It's a millenia old institution and power check.

I would like to submit Valeria as an application for this game, GM Dak, under this alias.

One background skill chosen so far (Craft: clothing) and I am opened to suggestions for the second one, after you've read my background story.

I have (tentatively) included a bonus story feat, but will remove it if you are not fond of this feat subsystem.

Dotting for interest. Will return with concepts.

I'm incredibly interested, this is probably my favorite AP, but does prior experience preclude one from applying? I'm in both the other active War for the Crown games on the boards and understand if you would want to hold it off for people new to the AP.

Simling, the player's guide is a free product you can download.

I'm in three other pretty active games, but this is my favorite AP so I might submit something. I have a brawler I've been wanting to use that would be a fun departure from the casters I usually play.

Any alignment restrictions or preferences?

Probably a stupid question, but would you consider a Vigilante? It's directly mentioned in the Player's Guide, and it works very well for the idea I'm having.

I've been wanting to play War for the Crown for a long, long time. Long enough that I have a character who already exists for this very purpose! Please let me know if you think there might be room for Bimble Ficklebopper, an old, rather frail gnome to join. I've been concerned when proposing this character that Bimble might be too old to join an adventure from a roleplaying perspective, so if you think that a younger personality is better, I do have in mind a completely different alternative concept. Please let me know.

Interested, I've been eyeing this AP for a while. I reckon I'll go for a magus or a fencer bard, most likely a Child of Oppara. Actually writing down the sheet will have to wait till Friday or Saturday for time reasons, though.

Pathfinder Adventure, Adventure Path Subscriber

So interested. Dotting for now.

Concept:

Celad (SEH-lad), of the Noble House of Karthis
Lawful Good Aasimar Paladin of Iomedae (Hospitaler) 1

Link to Taldor: Member (though not in good standing, for now) of Noble House Karthis. Born and raised in Oppara.

Motivation: Taldan is his home, and he wants to see it whole and prosperous, not torn by war, or held by the wrong people. As a member (even a semi-disgraced one) of a Noble House, he could be used symbolically, and the fact that he is an active member of the faith of Iomedae could also be used to stir up pro or anti-Aroden factions.

Rollplay vs. Roleplay - In combat contribution would most be through combat and/or healing. As a paladin, he can wear heavy armor and shields, and use most weapons. Out of combat, he is trained in Knowledge (Religion) and (Nobility), is skilled in Diplomacy, and also has training in the Healing arts, apart from his holy abilities. Also, he has been trained from birth to try to be a leader, to set an example, and to provide hope and faith to those in need.

Progression - At this time, I have no plans to do anything other than progress him as a paladin. That could change, based on the story, but I don't see it.

I have crunch, and will provide upon request.

Livelihood: As a paladin of Iomedae, he makes some coin through his adventuring, while tithing the rest, and his basic needs are met by the church whenever possible. He also has a small bit of coin left from his trust, most of which he used on his equipment.

Background:
Celad was born and raised in Oppara as a member of House Karthis, by his father, Lord Beran Karthis. He does not recall his mother, and was given minimal information about her. Despite being an Aasimar, he was a lesser son of the House, and while he received excellent care and a solid education, he was trained from birth with the idea of spending a few years as an officer in the Taldoran military (perhaps even receiving a knighthood), before taking over as the Captain of the House Guard (a position currently held by his cousin, Northan). He grew up reading stories about famous knights and generals, about Aroden and Iomedae, and it was always the stories of the Lady of Valor that stuck with him the most. In his religious learning, he absorbed all he could about Her, and the more he learned, the more he felt a sense of peace and well-being inside.

After mulling things over, he had a talk with Lord Beran and explained how he felt. His father reminded him that the family were devout followers of Aroden, but Celad made it plain that his heart was not there. Lord Beran came up with an idea... he would offer the boy to be fostered as a ward by the Church of Iomedae. He figured it would be a few weeks, at most, before Celad would come running back, missing the creature comforts of nobility, and fall back into worship of Aroden. He made the arrangements, and provided a fair sum to cover the costs of the boy's room and board, with some left over in trust for when he came of age.

Celad took to life as a church ward easily. He excelled in his studies, worked hard on his chores, and began to train as an assistant to the healers, learning about bandages, herbs, poultices, and splints. He was popular with his teachers and the clergy, and with the other boys and girls. His noble upbringing meant that he had some advantages over the other children, but he never exploited it, instead spending time trying to help them whenever he could.

Celad's background had given him skill in riding, weaponry, tactics, history, an understanding of the nobility, and the ability to read and write in Common and Elven, as well as his innate understanding of the Celestial tongue. It was not long before the boy was chosen as a page, and he spent only a year in that role before being chosen, at age fourteen, as a Squire to Sir Dartien Neguer, a paladin of Iomedae.

Lord Beran kept discrete track of all of this, and at first he was angry that his plan had backfired. Over time, however, he grew to be proud of the man Celad was becoming, and accepted that his son had found a different, unexpected place in the world. The other members of the family, however, saw the boy as a stain on the family honor, and made it clear that he would not be welcomed back to the fold.

In the meantime, Celad loved being a Squire. He traveled to different places, met new people, and worked hard to make sure Sir Dartien's needs were met, and this his weapons, armor, horse, tack were always well-maintained and cared for. In exchange, his education deepened, focusing on combat, proper etiquette for a variety of situations, and horsemanship. Much time was spent learning not only of Iomedae and Her ways, but also of other Gods and Theirs.

In his sixth year as a Squire, Celad was aiding refugees from a goblin skirmish while Sir Dartien rode with members of the local militia to put down the goblins, when something unusual happened. He was touching the head of a man who'd been badly burned rescuing his family from their house after it was hit by an alchemical grenade and caught fire, asking Iomedae's mercy for the fellow, when his hand suddenly started to glow. When the glow passed, the man's burns remained, but they were not as bad, and his fever had broken.

Celad told Sir Dartien what happened, upon his return, and the kindly older knight told him that he was to spend a night in prayer, under the stars, wearing only his smallclothes. That night, they went outside, away from the hut they'd been sharing to a quiet, isolated spot. Sir Dartien took Celad's longsword, and shoved the tip of the blade into the earth, so that the hilt stood upright, like a cross. He watched as Celad removed his armor and overclothes, and took the equipment, saying only that he would return in the morning.

Celad took a knee and began to pray. As he did, images flashed through his mind of his life to that point. He saw his family, remembering fondly his father's smile, and the scratch of his beard upon Celad's cheek. He saw old Arock, his childhood arms tutor, and Benn, his closest friend from the Temple where he'd been fostered. As he thought of all of them, feelings of love and light bloomed in him. At last, his mind went back to his mother, she of whom he remembered so little. In that moment, for the first time that he could ever recall, he saw his mother in his mind's eye, in all of her otherworldly beauty. She smiled at him, and he was suffused with
a feeling of warmth and comfort. He heard a voice, then, say, "Child, you are of Mine, and will serve Me." There was a bright flash, and when it receded and he opened his eyes, it was morning. His sword, still in front of him, had changed. It was razor sharp, and gleaming, with a hilt and crossguard of intricately worked gold. Hanging from the hilt by a golden chain was a medallion, of a silver sword surrounded by a golden rays. Celad heard a voice behind him. "Wear your medallion, Paladin of Iomedae.", Sir Darien said, pride in his voice.

Not long after this, Celad made his way back to Oppara. His grandfather, High Lord Tremen Karthis, announced publicly that House Karthis was favored to have a paladin of Iomedae among its members, and Celad was offered the chance to return to the wealth and lifestyle he'd known as a boy. He refused, saying that he now owed allegiance to only one master. For this perceived insult, Lord Tremen told him there would be a reckoning, but so far this has not happened. Lord Beran privately congratulated the young warrior, and told him he was proud, but that he would need to publicly support the family. Celad was understanding of this, and went on his way, eager to see what Iomedae had in store for him next.

Time Zone:
CDT, midwestern US. I am usually available to post Mon-Fri between 8 and 5, and again after 7pm. Weekends are a bit spottier, but I can still post at times.

PbP:
I am currently in three games, and trying to get one up and running as GM. This has had no impact on my time or ability to post, thus far.

Sczarni

Interested, for sure.

Probably with a rogue type character.

Reading players guide now.

Here's the information for my submission in summary form:

Bimble Ficklebopper
NG Gnome Wizard (Transmuter)
Profession: Writer/Propagandist
Motivation: A better Taldor for non-human races.
Rollplay: Versatile wizard
Roleplay: Knowledge monkey
Progression: Full Wizard
Background: See alias
Time zone: Pacific time, most often post in the mornings
Experience: Currently in 12 campaigns, about five of which are active on a daily basis. Active and regular poster.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

@Simling As ScorchedOne pointed out you can download the Players Guide for free to reference the campaign traits. Plus I would highly recommend reading through it because it gives a lot of great insight you can use to build a character.

@Valeria For a second I thought you were applying to a Hell's Rebels game. :) Character concept looks good, just need to finish out the other application requirements.

@The Lobster I don't have an issue with players having previous knowledge of the AP as long as you can keep player knowledge and character knowledge seperate.

@theasl No restrictions but it needs to make sense in terms of the party. IE if most people are on the good side of things an evil character may have a hard time fitting in.

@Brolof Vigilante is ok.

@Tazo Interesting concept. I don't have an issue with an old fragile gnome.

Upon seeing that Vigilante is okay, I'm going to be submitting a character I attempted to submit to a previous War for the Crown recruitment.

Backstory:

Eregos Villarius was born to a mid-level noble family from the Tandak prefecture as the younger of two sons. Growing up, his father doted on his older brother, Marcus, who stood to inherit the majority of the estate, leaving Eregos to be raised primarily by his mother, nurses, and tutors. Eregos was jealous of his older brother’s clearly favored status, as his father rarely spent time with him. Eregos desperately tried to prove he was worthy of his father’s time, working hard at his studies. Unfortunately, no matter how hard he tried, he was nothing more than an average student, unlike his brother, who seemed to excel in his studies. Eregos excelled in only two areas: rhetoric and debate, and martial training.

Eregos had a gift for discussion, often laying out convincing arguments and speaking with distinction and poise. He hoped to use this skill to prove himself worthy of his father’s affection, but while he applauded Eregos’s linguistic talents, he spent no more time with him than he had previously. Eregos was disappointed. He’d hoped his father would see potential for something in him - perhaps even a place in the Senate. Instead, he was yet an afterthought. Desperate, he turned his attention to his martial training, seeking to prove to at least his father that his skill-at-arms made him just as worthy as his brother. As he grew, he became larger and more muscular than Marcus, in the image of his maternal grandfather. While this helped him in his martial training, it did not help him learn the proper way to use the signature Taldan weapon, the Falcata. He consistently relied on his strength to strike with the blade instead of finesse and agility. In the end, his efforts weren’t enough, and his father continued to all but ignore him.

Then, tragedy struck. At the age of 14, his mother fell ill and died. Eregos was heartbroken at the loss, but the pain was made all the greater by the fact that his father decided Eregos should go to a private school away from home, as his father did not have time for his younger son. So, a mere week after his mother’s funeral, Eregos was sent away, to Oppara. Eregos was so angry. He’d tried so hard, done everything his father asked, to prove himself worthy of his father’s time, and instead, he found himself sent away from the family home, barely able to mourn his mother. It was in his anger that Eregos realized the truth - nothing he did mattered to his father. He was nothing but an afterthought. If that was how his father saw him, then it was fine - it meant he could do whatever he wanted.

Eregos arrived at the school in Oppara with a mission. He was going to enjoy himself, and who cared what his father thought about it. It started small - sneaking out at night, breaking curfew with a few friends, other second and third sons sent away from home. They began frequenting taverns, gambling halls, and brothels, spending money freely, laughing and showing up to classes half-asleep and yawning. They earned and then cultivated a reputation as carefree hedonists, men who did what they wanted, when they wanted. After all, they said, what did any of it matter? They were clearly afterthoughts to their families, and no one would care. Unbeknownst to them, someone did.

After 4 years, Eregos graduated the program and was to return home. As he prepared to do so, his father arrived, furious. Eregos’s reputation had reached home, and his father demanded to know if it was true. Deciding not to bother with a lie, Eregos replied that yes, it was true. His father demanded to know what had possessed him to sully the family name so, and Eregos laid everything out. He lit into his father for never spending time with him, for favoring Marcus over him, for sending him away with barely a chance to mourn his mother. They were both shouting by the time it was over. Eregos’s father called him a disappointment and a disgrace. Eregos called his father a washed-up, useless fool, and told him he was so concerned with appearances and his reputation that he’d probably never truly loved his wife. It was the final straw. Eregos’s father told him not to bother returning to the family seat, and that he was disowned, cast out of the family. Eregos said it was fine with him - it wasn’t like he had ever been treated like part of the family anyway.

Eregos remained in Oppara, but it didn’t take him long to learn that he wasn’t well-suited to life outside of the net that had supported him. With no truly marketable skills, he found his only way to make money being gambling. His friends stopped associating with him. Over the next three years, he gradually sold various valuables and finery for coin, relying on gambling and other games of chance to earn enough so he could desperately try and keep himself alive. In desperation, he began working to forget letters of credit, allowing him to occasionally draw funds from merchants and the like.

It was during this time that he found out just how badly the commoner had it in Taldor compared to the nobility. The safety nets and advantages he had once enjoyed gone, he saw how hard-strapped they were, and how hard they worked for no reward as nobles like him spent money without consequence. He no longer looked down on them - now, he saw them as the true soul of Taldor.

Eventually, he learned the true reason his father had been so furious at him. His father had challenged Maxillar Pythareous, Taldor’s military commander, on some political matter, and won the day. In retaliation, Pythareous accused his family of engaging in demonic and hedonistic rituals and conspiring with enemies of the throne to overthrow the Grand Emperor. Preposterous accusations, all, but Eregos’s behavior in the capital was used as evidence of the hedonistic nature of the family. His father was now dead, supposedly killed in a riding accident, but Eregos knew, deep down, it was no accident.

Eregos was distraught. His actions had directly contributed to the rapid decline of his House. The Villarius name was worthless now - his brother, Marcus, was said to have sold the family estate to someone else, and was constantly shunned by those of high society. Eregos knew reaching out to his old friends would result in no response - they had likely stopped associating with him because of the charges Pythareous laid against his father. Eregos began to quietly hatch a foolish plan - find Pythareous, assassinate him, and then redeem his family name. He could reconcile with Marcus, and then the two of them would be able to rebuild.

But how could he accomplish this plan? He would never get close to Pythareous - his guards would make sure of that. But maybe someone else could. Eregos crafted himself an alternate identity - Hargus Kryn, a minor noble from near the World’s Edge Mountains. This identity would allow him to easily move about society, without the tarnish he’d given the family’s reputation. As Hargus Kryn, he could redeem the Viillarius family name, and then reveal his true identity to his brother, reconciling them. It meant forging patents of nobility, and sometimes bribing clerks to file forgeries in the right places, but he began to work his way back into society life. As he did so, he learned of Princess Eutropia and her cause. She seemed to have the best interests of Taldor’s citizens at heart - and as he’d learned over the past three years, it was about time someone did. His identity as Hargus Kryn allowed him to test the waters on some of her ideas, and quietly make his support known. With the Grand Day of Exaltation arriving, Hargus seeks a way to influence the upcoming Senate vote - although what could a noble from the fringes of Taldor truly hope to accomplish?

Summary:
- Class: Vigilante
- Alignment: Chaotic Neutral (Eregos Villarius)/Neutral Good (Hargus Kryn)
- Characters link to Taldor, and specifically Oparra: Eregos is from the Tandak prefecture in Taldor, and originally came to Oppara for schooling. Following his disownment, he made his home permanently in Oppara and has been in the city for 7 years total.
- Livelihood: Eregos's livelihood comes primarily through gambling and forgery, as the family no longer has wealth.
- Motivation: Eregos's interest in politics comes from two sources. The first is a desire to take revenge on Maxillar Pythareus, clearing his family name, and the second is to advance the status of the common folk.
- Rollplay vs Roleplay: In combat he will hopefully serve as a melee character/front liner. Out of combat he can hopefully step into the role of party face.
- Progression: Vigilante all the way, and eventually taking Upsetting Shield Style to create a Strength-based facsimile of the traditional Rondolero fighting style.
- Background: See above.

Okay, thanks. I've got a couple different ideas, so I'll hold off a bit on deciding which one to put forward while other characters are coming in.

Interested, I will adjust when I get time later tonight.

I will tentatively Dot a "jack the Ripper" type Vigilante stalker (Serial Killer) that will be taking the Disgraced Noble Trait, because I think that will be the only way to have that class and Alignment work (ill also have a personal Moral Code list for my Alignment LE that he will follow), he will only be interested in brutally killing the people responsible for his family downfall, but not everyone else (because he is a Patriot. where he will work well with a group. I will have the character up once I decide on everything.

How do you feel about planetouched races like ifrits or sylphs? As close as we are to Qadira, where they are common, it seems like there might be a few around in Taldor as well. Then again, Taldor and Qadira probably don’t have a lot of cross-border migration. With the “mostly human” alternate race trait, it’s likely they could pass for human with no trouble, and so probably make it in humanocentric Taldan society. As long as they don’t go openly using SLAs and the like.

Gonna go ahead and submit my idea for a Qadiran Human Warrior Poet who worships Shelyn and is a painter. For combat, I'm gonna be focusing on mobility and feinting, and for roleplay the idea is for him to be a generally soft-spoken but well-spoken man, who, after being wounded in a skirmish while in the Qadiran military, was left for dead along the Taldan border, and was nursed back to health by a minor Taldan noble. Upon learning of his talent as a painter, said noble decided to sponsor him (so I'm taking the Rising Star campaign trait) and give him a home in Oppara. Will have a full statblock, background, RP sample and profile set up soon!

Dotting this for later!

@Ouachitonian As noted, I'm not opposed to alternate races but the background would really need to cover how they are making it in a city that is pretty judgmental against non-humans.

Please see Shalm's submission, Marcus Beto—a human slayer who is the disavowed bastard son of a member of the Ulfen guard, a chef of some renown throughout Oppara, and a bit crazy.

I think his alias should include all the requested information, but let me know if there's anything that needs clarification.

I'm in the Eastern time zone, and can generally post during the work day (or in the evenings if it's a particularly busy day).

I've been playing Pathfinder for about 7 years, and have both played in and GM'd a few PbPs (mostly played PFS scenarios, and GM'd some sporadic things for friends who live across the US, though I'm about to start GMing two Rise of the Runelords tables on the boards here as well).

This is a really awesome AP, so kudos for choosing to run it!

Seems like a cool AP. Dot for interest.

I have an idea I will need to toy with.

A well-heeled rebellious/bored unchained rogue without most of the class specials that define the combat rogue. Archetypes involved, obviously.

So you want to be a Phantom Thief?

@Valeria For a second I thought you were applying to a Hell's Rebels game. :) Character concept looks good, just need to finish out the other application requirements.

Let me know what you'd recommend for second background skill. As requested please find the rest of the requirements:

1) Develop character concept (see alias)
- Class: Bard
- Alignment: Chaotic Good
- Characters link to Taldor, and specifically Oparra: see background story - she is an exiled noble from the Tanessen family of Kintargo, related to House Karthis (mother's side of the family);
- How long have you been in Oparra? three months
- Are you a resident? newly arrived resident yes, but with Chelish nationality
- If not, why are you here now? to explore a career at the Opera! :)
- Livelihood: How does/has your character make a living? performances at the theatre and off the good graces of most noble houses in Oppara - it's always one party after the next!
- Motivation: Why are you interested in Taldan politics? because Taldor is only a few mistakes away from becoming Cheliax.
- Why would someone take interest in you regarding politics? because of my connections to the Tanessens in Cheliax mostly, other than that, Valeria is an artist, and would therefore be mostly disregarded as unimportant politically, unless she reaches a high level of fame.
- Rollplay vs Roleplay: How will your character contribute to the group in combat? What about out of combat? Combat: inspire courage and spells; out of combat: skills! lots of skills! social skills especially! and knowledges too! yessssss....
- Progression: How do you plan to mechanically develop the character (ie dips, multiclassing, PrCs, etc)? If you don't have a plan yet, that is ok. --> single classed bard; I might consider the Chelish Diva archetype, but if you prefer a simple bard I will keep her like this)
- Background: What is the characters backstory? --> see background story under alias
2) Let me know your time zone and the time(s) of day you will most likely be able to post. --> Eastern [EST]
3) Tell me about your experience with PbP? How many PbP games are you currently participating in? started PbP two years ago; I am in a few PbPs at the moment that are nearing their ends; I am also in a Strange Aeons PbP which is starting now; I am also GMing Confirmation on Myth-Weavers which will start next week. I can post multiple times per day.

So you want to be a Phantom Thief?

Burglar/Phantom Thief combo, actually.

Toys with the social game, and takes the risks of thievery for the rush.

ALMOST straight out of the Player's Guide, but giving up an awful lot of the things people assume Rogues will be able to do in combat. No Uncanny Dodge or Sneak Attacks, ever, can be a big deal for a combat-focused event. This will have combats, sure, but it reads like it won't be combat-focused.

Question becomes do you Skill Unlock the primary social skills (Bluff/Diplomacy/Sense Motive) or primary thievery skills (Disable Device/Perception/Sleight of Hand) first? I think it will matter. Hopefully by Level 3 there will be a good indication of which is better for the AP. (I expect the answer will be Social. I really do.)

@GM Dak:

Checking before I go too far on running numbers and tweaking the implementation of my idea:

ARG Alternate Racial Traits? Allowed or not? You didn't touch on that in the creation rules, and the only place you listed book limits was class options.

For a Human skill monkey I am apt to replace Focused Study for the Bonus Feat. Not remotely a make-or-break for the concept, just a nice-to-have.

@Hustonj I am ok with alternate racial traits and heritages, but not alternate racial abilities.

This build is surprisingly MAD.

Cha & Wis for social skills.
Dex for thievery and basic combat contributions.
Con for survival.
Int for skill ranks.
Str for carrying capacity, basically.

Long time since I looked at a Rogue build and considered dumping Int . . .. Especially with the sheer number of Class Skills this combo has. <shrug>

Hmmmm . . ..

Would I be allowed to submit multiple builds into consideration? There's a lot I want to do in this AP.

Here's my idea for a character, based on this guy:

Background:

Spoiler:

In a house known for occultism, influence mongering and spymasters, Eric is the one the house marches out when it wants to make a point about their righteousness. Sent to a temple of Iomedae at an early age, Eric became the affable but slightly inept warrior surrounded by those more capable than him. If it weren't for the fact that he was taken in by the Temple's Master of the Hounds, he probably would have been given a luxurious life and kept in the dark about everything the family does.

The Master of the Hounds discovered Eric's skill with animals at a very young age, his empathy and steel-hard glare commanding obedience at every level from the animals the Master had in his care. Taking the boy on, the Master taught Eric how to hunt down fugitives with them, how to keep the respect of the creatures there.

This changed everything about the slight boy. Now, he is called upon by the house when criminals must be hunted, or asked to join in on animal hunts by the other nobles. The family has welcomed him in, though of course they still march him out at every opportunity like a monkey in a tuxedo.

Character's link to Taldor:

Eric is a Merosett. He walks the senate floor like he was born to it and, unlike many in his family, he has a strong sense of duty to tradition. He can be counted on to back family and tradition, and takes a fierce pride in the history of the Senate floor

Livelihood

While Eric could very easily have wiled away his days in idle splendour, Eric works with the temple of Iomedae as an Initiate. His specific duties involve working with the Hounds, often serving as a temple guard, though due to his noble heritage he is given a lot of leeway and often runs errands between the temple and the senate floor to curry favor.

Motivation:

Eric is expected to take an active role in politics, and he is a very dutiful son. He is intelligent, well-read and has a plan for his own families lands when he inherits his own. Plans that involve bettering the local community through his influence and wealth.

Rollplay vs Roleplay
In the beginning, Eric will rely heavily upon his hounds for combat. As a Sacred Shield, his one huge advantage is that his Smite Evil ability actually just halves damage to the people around him, making his teammates much less likely to be hurt badly in the ensuing fight and improving the performance of his animals hugely. His first act of any fight will be to use his move action to Command his dogs and his standard action to Demoralize his opponent. He will minimize damage greatly

As soon as he hits level 2, he will be multiclassing in to Cavalier(Archetype: Castellant, Order of the Beast). This will grant all his allies(Including his animals) the Precise Strike feat, meaning they will all get +1d6 damage when flanking(Which his dogs will always try to do). By level 5, he will have the Natural Bond feat and 2 animal companions(One from Castellant and one from the Order of the Beast) that will have multiple teamwork feats.

At level 6, I will take a second Natural Bond feat to affect my 2nd Animal Companion and I will gain access to shapechanging them. This will allow my Hounds to become Smilodons, doing 5 attacks a round(+d6 every attack due to Precise Strike, plus other Team Mate feats) and I will -still- be able to halve damage from the biggest and roughest target we face.

Outside of combat, Eric knows the ins and outs of the Senate. He is a decent speaker, knows the nobility inside and out and is privy to secrets no other PC(Other than other Merosetts) would know without serious digging.

Timezone and experience with playing
I have never been in a PbP at all! And I live in England, so I'm GMT.

Background:

3) I've been doing PbP on the forums here since the very end of 2014. I am currently in 19 PbPs, running 4.

Very interesting. There aren't many written APs that are so intrigue and RP-heavy as this one is. Color me curious.

I have an idea for a bit of an odd character, but I wanted to ask for your thoughts first GM Dak. I'm thinking of playing a N Human Cleric of Norgorber who is genuinely interested in helping alleviate the political turmoil of Taldor. He has the mindset of "Rulers need people willing to do the dirty work so they can keep their hands clean", and is more than willing to take on that responsibility in order to become "The power behind the throne". To that end, I have two questions:

1) Would such a character be acceptable for this campaign? Although he worships an evil deity he is himself N and follows a more benevolent interpretation of the "Reaper of Reputation" aspect of Norgorber.

2) I would like to use the Cardinal archetype, but...my god the mechanical trade-offs are just plain awful. I don't mind giving up significant combat potential in order to have a lot more skills, but it trades away so much: a domain, spontaneous casting, medium armor and shield proficiency, and a worse BaB. Would you be willing to houserule making the archetype trade-offs not so bad? If so I have some suggestions that would still cripple his combat prowess but wouldn't be as debilitating.

I changed the class I dotted to Cipher investigator instead of vigilante because I feel it will be easier to DM rather than constantly shifting back and forth. (Wait! I gotta change, lol) and the class still thematically fits the idea with less fuss.

- Class Investigator (cipher)
- Alignment (LE)- will do a Moral compass on his personal code. (I saw a paladin character so this will help to work with anyone he isn't a screw everyone type, he wants to destroy only one person and his family for what they did to him, eye for a eye.)
- Valarain is a disgraced noble that after his family was disgraced and executed he went to live in the narrows in squalor, eventually turning to Norbegor in his hate (he worships the Secrets aspect; the skinwalkers are crazy.) he sees the gathering as his only chance for revenge. (count of Monte Cristo style)
- Livelihood: Valarain poses as a scribe/historian, In reality he is a assassin out for revenge
- Motivation: History repeats itself, I will be playing a Quiet, meek, historian that will be seen but not heard, secretly he is a worshiper of norbergor that his family was disgraced when he was younger, he is looking for vengeance.
- Rollplay vs Roleplay: He will be a skill monkey, and a glass cannon in combat. I was inspired by Batman Gotham by gaslight, and assassins creed ripper. I want to stay as true to the character as i can thematically a single weapon fighter that depends on flanking and surprise, with traits and feats that also follow the theme.
- Progression: I plan on dipping in (unchained) rogue (discretion specialist for the Obfuscation (Su), and Evidence Disposal (Sp)), which I will use to set up the people who executed my family.
- Background: Ultimately he will be searching for vengeance of his family. Valarian feels responsible for it, because when he was young HE was the one that caused the death of his whole family by bragging, now he prefers to stay under the radar in many situations (I worked this into his Drawback, he will always talk in whisper. and his class cipher)
2) typically I check in morning and once in evening.
3) I have about 5 years experience in PbP, 30+ F2F. I only do 2 PBP at a time because I found it is my sweet spot where I am engaged. this avatar is new, and it doesn't look like I have experience (I'm willing to PM my old one if necessary) I believe that a PbP player needs to be proactive to help DM's in PbP (getting to know others in character and have side conversations) rather than just being reactive to what the DM posts.

Winning.

Definitely interested. Will revisit later.

Not going to lie, I really want to make the antithesis character. A real "KRUG SMASH PINK FLESHY THING" sort of character. Intimidate is a social skill...

I know, right? Gotta love fish out of water PCs, so I find myself wanting to play socially oriented garden enthusiasts in murder-hobo games, and murder-hobos in RP heavy games like these. Hate myself for it.

Anyway... I know you didn't ask for this, Dak, but I feel this would be a good place to start:

Vignette/RP sample:

In Oppara, underneath the great domed roof of the Basilica of the Last Man, Golarion’s oldest temple to the dead god Aroden, a young man flitted about the old echoing chapel. He was in danger of stumbling into an empty pew at any moment, what with his neck craned back as it was, but he was too entranced to care. The man’s attention was drawn upwards to the magnificent frescos and stained glass windows above. The church really was glorious. And yet that glory only served to highlight the disparity between its past and its present. Because where once the enormous hall had played host to prayers of the pious and the song of supplicants, today only the footsteps of tourists reverberated through it. The basilica’s only visitors these days were travellers to Taldor, people eager to see the temple turned tombstone to the dead god and constant reminder of the nation’s decline. The young man was struck by it as well. Taldor had never seemed more decrepit than now he saw it from this monument to its past glory.

He was then struck by something more physical, as his knees inevitably collided into a wooden pew. He swore under his breath as he righted himself. Hopefully not too many people had seen him make a fool out of himself, he thought as he looked about the half-deserted space. That hope was quickly dashed. For the woman just a few feet away from him could hardly not have noticed his blunder. After all, she was sitting on the same pew he had thought abandoned.

“Oh! Excuse me. Wasn’t watching my step. Sorry to… disturb you?”

His wonder at the woman slipped into his apology, for as his eyes took her in he found her odd indeed. Physically there was little noteworthy about her. The woman was utterly average in height and build, albeit perhaps somewhat paler than most Taldans. While not unattractive, she had reached that age one couldn’t call ‘young’ anymore – perhaps thirty or so, and her hair was doubly unassuming, being both brown and cut in a conservative style. No, what the young man perceived as unusual about the woman was her dress and conduct. If the fine clothes hadn’t already made it obvious, then the signet ring on one slender finger confirmed that she was a noble. And as for her conduct, well… She was praying. In the temple of a dead god. Praying fervently at that, hands clasped and head bowed. So occupied was she that neither the young man’s tumble nor apology had convinced her to even look up; he had to wait for her to finish. When she did, the woman turned towards him.

“That’s perfectly alright. I’m glad you find our church so beautiful as to forget the ground beneath you.”

More oddities leapt out at the man. Although her features were fairly plain, the woman’s beautiful voice and regal bearing lent her no small amount of appeal. But what truly stood out to him were her eyes. These were not beautiful. No, they were a horrid uniform white, two large milky pools that gave this otherwise so unassuming woman an air of exoticism. She was clearly blind. The way she looked only in his direction, not directly at him, confirmed it.

Good, he thought. That meant she wouldn’t be able to see nor remember his red face.

“Yes, um… Yes, it is that. Very beautiful. Magnificent.”

He hesitated. The young man didn’t want to pry, nor come of as rude, especially to a noble-lady, but he’d always been the curious sort. ‘Our’ church? Had he heard her right? Perhaps she had simply meant it in the loosest civic sense, but coupled with the prayer he had to wonder. Arodenties were a very rare breed today indeed. Had he come across one?

“May I… Forgive me, but may I ask… Just now, were you praying?”

“I was.”

“To… Aroden?”

A wry smile lifted the corners of her mouth.

“Yes. To Aroden.”

The young man made an indication of surprise, hoping that she would elaborate, before he remembered that she was blind and therefore oblivious to these social cues. If he wanted to know more, he would have to ask.

“Miss, could you, um… Again, I mean no disrespect, but…”

“Why am I praying to the divine equivalent of a carcass? Is that what you want to know?”

The words were far harsher than he had expected, but the smile never left left the woman’s lips. She didn’t seem at all angry, nor even annoyed. If anything she looked a bit bemused. Honestly, she reminded him of his last visit to a brothel, where the madam easily and unashamed broached subjects he was hesitant to even voice.

“Well, I suppose… Yes, I suppose that’s what I’m asking. I mean, why worship something that you know is, um… gone?”

“Gone?”

The woman lifted her light eyebrows in surprise; he couldn’t quite tell whether it was feigned or not. She then lifted a fine hand and pointed to one side of the hall without looking. Her dead eyes never moved once.

“That fresco over there – can you see it?"

“Yes.”

“Describe it to me.”

“It, um… I think that’s Aroden himself standing over a slain… devil, perhaps? I’m sorry; I’m not very good with these things. It looks like he’s entering a doorway of some sorts.”

“That’s a perfectly adequate description,” the woman smiled. “Although your ‘devil’ is actually a demon. A demon lord at that. That fresco depicts how our lord Aroden departed our world for the great unknown after slaying the demon lord Ibdurengian. You see, our current situation is not entirely new. The Last Azlanti has abandoned his people before. There was a time where he walked among us, his chosen, and guided us, fought alongside us, even founded the great nation we now reside in. I have no doubt that humanity back then, as we do now, felt an enormous loss and frustration at the moment shown in that fresco – the moment Aroden departed our reality to become the unseen force we now understand as a deity.”

If the woman’s voice was beautiful earlier, the young man now found it spellbinding. Narcotic, even. There was a conviction in her every syllable that brooked no interruption or argument. Dimly the young man realized that the woman was more preacher than devotee.

“Do you know why Aroden left us then? Because he loved us. He loved us too much to see us so dependent on him. The last Azlanti saw fathomless potential in humanity. He raised us from nothing into the greatest civilization on the planet, not for personal glory or adoration but because he could recognize the great destiny hidden within us, just as he recognized himself as the hero of the Starfall Doctrine. He was both leader and servant. As we worshiped him, he worshiped us. And I’m sure it broke his immortal heart to see the people he so adored, the people he knew had no limits, grow reliant upon him. To define themselves after him. That is why the Living God left us. Like a mother bird kicking its own young out of the nest so that it may learn to soar, Aroden abandoned his children so that we might be free. Free to do all and be all he wanted us to be, free to pursue our destiny.”

The young man gulped, audibly. He had never heard any priest, of any god dead or alive, speak with such fervour.

“I… I see. But that was then. Now he hasn’t just… retired to the great beyond. He’s dead.”

Her smile only grew wider.

“Young man, I worship him because he’s dead. Don’t you see? The sapling can never grow strong with an ancient oak cloying it. It is because our lord Aroden is dead that we are limitless. If we truly want to be worthy of the god that loved us, then we must prove that we can thrive without him. This is the destiny he foresaw us. His death set us free. Humanity’s, and thus Aroden’s, greatest triumph was his death. And besides, a god of human greatness was always a paradox. After all, only a weak humanity would need a god.”

Underneath her blank eyes the woman’s smile seemed serene. And just a little insidious.

Character concept (Maddalena Merosett):

Class:
Oracle, Intrigue mystery, Clouded Vision curse
Alignment:
LN
Link to Taldor/Oppara:
Born and raised Opparan.
Livelihood:
As a noble her primary income comes from stipends from her family, but she also works as an aide to the church of Aroden.
Rollplay & Roleplay:
Having not finalized her crunch, I imagine her major contribution to battle would be buffs, perhaps debuffs too. Out of combat I'll focus on taking abilities providing things skills typically cannot, such as mind-reading, instant disguises, and lie-detecting. I also intend for her to be able to cast undetected.
Progression:
Unsure. Probably straight Oracle, but I'm eyeing some options.
Motivation/background:
Like so many other Taldans, Maddalena "Maddy" Merosett grew up hearing stories about ancient Azlant. About how this long gone super-civilization once ruled the world, and how they, the Taldans, were the rightful heirs to that legacy. The tales were enough to swell the heart and fuel anyone's civil pride, even one otherwise so defective as Maddalena. For you see, Maddalena Merosett was born blind.

However, every cloud having a silver lining, her disability didn't come without advantages. Maddalena herself believes that she would have grown up as xenophobic as most every other Taldan if not for her blindness. Because while others judged by appearance, she never had that option. Instead, she listened. And the young Merosett found a great deal worth listening to from a great variety of people. Foreigners usually so distrusted in Taldor represented nations with philosophy, magic and science every bit as worthy as that of Taldor itself. Even in Qadirans, their long-standing enemy, Maddalena found something to admire. She became convinced that all the tribes of humanity should reunite under a new banner, a new super-civilization. A new Azlant.

If only there was something that could band them all together, some common ground all of mankind could unite over. It was then that it struck her. There had once been such a thing. Not long ago at all, at that: Aroden. The one true god of humanity, the Last Azlanti, had unified them all through shared purpose. Why shouldn't he do so again? The deity might be gone, but his teachings were not. Maddalena reasoned that if entire nations such as Rahadoum could be centered around a philosophy, then why couldn't the principles of Aroden lead humans as they once had? In pursuit of this goal, she dedicated herself to the betterment of the failing church of Aroden, and because she wanted to lead by example, even started to pray to the dead deity. This had an unexpected consequence that ensured the young Merosett's undying devotion to her cause: she began to see.

Comments:
So yeah, Maddy is a devout follower of Aroden, but more so as a philosophy than a faith. Can’t really be called a faith in-universe what with the god being dead. She believes in innovation, civilization, justice, the strong protecting the weak, work ethic, culture, the preservation of history, and the community over the individual. Really, she’s pretty much an Abadaran except her beliefs are centred entirely on the human race. And boy, does she have big plans. Her end goal in the political mess that the adventure path purports to be is more funding from Taldor to the Arodenite church, which I understand from the lore still exists, albeit extremely diminished. I love that, by the way. No better sign of how resistant Taldor is to change than the fact that they’re still keeping the church of a dead god around. Maddy wants to utilize the Arodenite church, this one thing every human tribe on the planet has in common (or rather used to), to unify all of humanity. I mean, if religions in our world can do it without magic, then why shouldn’t that follow on Golarion? She doesn’t think this can be done in her lifetime. Heck no, this will take time. But that doesn’t really matter to her as long as she can set humanity on the right course. Others will follow in her footsteps, and all of this will begin in the nation Aroden himself founded: Taldor. Starting small, right?

As far as her personal life goes, I didn’t want to write anything too specific as I don’t know if following chapters in the AP will have specifics on the Merosetts that my scribbles will just run against. I do have this idea though, that only her closest family members know that Maddy isn’t blind. Not entirely anyway, according to the mechanics of the Oracle curse. She keeps up the lie to disarm people; it makes others underestimate her. Additionally, even though she has her own agenda at court (mo’ money for the church), princess Eutropia from the player’s guide intrigues her. After all, she is a woman herself and would benefit from the end of Taldor’s primogeniture. I’m hoping that these goals (a personal political motive; fixing Taldor in Aroden’s eyes; Eutropia’s reform) will make Maddy a good fit for the path.

If you're still reading at this point, thanks.

My time zone is GMT-ish, but I may post at odd times of the day. I'm not terribly experienced with PbP in these parts, but I have a few games under my belt. I am not currently in any game. I typically only participate in one at a time, partly due to time constraint, partly as I like to dedicate myself to one game at a time. I'm with you on the year-long commitment.

Apologies for the wall of text, but you asked for it, Dak. Comments are of course welcomed.

This would definitely be of interest.

I'm thinking of a Swashbuckler with the Inspired Blade and Noble Fencer archetypes. She's the eldest child of a well-respected yet minor nobleman. She's charged with the managing the family's vineyards and winery to the north of Oppara. Bringing her family's newest vintage to the Exaltation Gala, she has proudly presented the wine to the nobles to rave reviews. She's the charismatic leader of her families generation, but as a woman unable to gain her father's titles and lands.

Unfortunately, her younger brother has shown little ability to manage any of the families estates. Leading slothful and self-entitled lives, the inept heir to the family could cause the downfall of the family. She is very much in favor of the new laws and hopeful to ensure their passage and continued relevance in Taldor.

She's helpful in a fight with her rapier, and quite useful in social settings with skill points in bluff, diplomacy and intimidate. She'll probably go straight swashbuckler, but may throw in a level of magus or rogue for some other utility.

I'm in the US, CST time zone and tend to post 1-2/day on the weekdays, mainly once mid-morning with a possible 2nd post in the afternoon. I've been playing PBP for 5-6 years here. I'm GMing a couple games at the moment, but not playing any on these boards at the moment.

Okay, a dot for interest. I saw this and wanted to play through it. I am thinking pure Cleric. I will have to look at the guide and put something together by tomorrow morning.

Darkwing's character that is in the works.

1) I need some more time to finish all the thoughts and pieces here, which i won't find before monday unfortunately. The idea is my character spend some time in the Taldan colonies in Tian Xia and got different ideas there, coming back changed and with new knowledge.
This will reflect a lot on the personality and mechanics.
2) UTC +1 usually late evening, if possible over the day as well.
3) Tell me about your experience with PbP?
Been doing PbP since 5+ years now, nice getaway during the day etc.
Besides many groups busting and APs not finishing, i made good experiences overall. I like deeper rp and character development as reaction to things happening.
Currently in 4 games with very different speed. I GM PFS/SFS as often as i can.
