Probably very little. No Know. Arcana or Spellcraft for one thing, and little practical knowledge. I'd imagine he knows what scrying is and that it is a big fancy spell but probably not much more?

So, I'm curious as to how you handle experience points when there isn't a lot of combat. I feel like Doumane has done a lot since starting the game and should be close to going up a level but there hasn't been a lot of definite 'you get this many experience points for fighting this' moments.
Your thoughts would be much appreciated :)
I ignore Xp entirely and reward levels based on story beats. For example (spoilers) Shalina will get a level after this Onagon arc is done. I tend to wait overly long to grant levels. In one of my games, One Out of Many, the PC just leveled up for the first time after 1.3 years of real life gaming.

Sneak attack is so awesome.
Sneak attack is my favorite thing about a rogue but when I've played one I'm part of a party. Therefore the opportunity to use sneak attack almost never happens...your not supposed to split the party and you're not sneaking up on anyone when walking with people in heavy armor.
So where is Doumane off to? Or do you need something more from me?
I'm thinking. Is there any place close by that might be a good hiding spot? He is injured, but not maimed. Healing then hiding is next job. And I am debating if I want to meet up with that caster again, what was her name? The lady I met in the tavern.
That would be Evelina, Nemeia's friend. But the tavern may not be the best place to go considering you first saw the boy who works for Razvan there. Your choice :)
I'm sure that it would be that hard for Doumane to find a place to hide. Cellar or rooftop, stable or abandoned warehouse - anything you want, within reason.

Doumane can use some of his time to look into scrying. I love that you're separating character and player knowledge so well. I've played with others who aren't so good at that.
Attacking Jarvyce probably would have gone poorly for you. Even if you'd been able to finish him off (and you probably wouldn't have), you still would have had the others to contend with. And you're on his turf.
Doumane's worry is that Jarvyce will see him researching scrying. The man is unstable, might be enough to throw him into a rage. Dru, for example, seems totally 'ok' with it, so Jarvyce might expect that for everyone. Hmm...
Does Magnimar have any fancy banks? Doumane might think they are scry proof, does that seem reasonable?
Wait, would he know any temples/faiths that might be anti-scrying enough that their temples are protected? Even if it is just rumor/guesswork? Some place he might possibly have a reason to go to?
What I need to do, is get a meeting with that noble Fara set up.

I would have thought that a large city like Magnimar would have something involving Abadar which would be both a fancy bank and a temple/place of faith. The Magnimar info doesn't list anything for Abadar but I would think there should be.
Therefore, I would say that there is a bank run by those who worship Abadar and it would make sense that there would be anti-scrying in place because it would be used by many merchants, judges, lawyers, and aristocrats.
Fara told you the tavern where you could probably find Grigore Kiritescu...The Hungry Dagger but nothing has officially been set up because you've been busy and haven't visited there.

No other churches that spring to mind? Also, would Doumane be able to show up at said bank without an appointment and not be kicked out? Would he at least get a chance to bluff he is a parishioner? If he doesn't know, that's fine.
The Temple of Calistria may also have anti-scrying to protect the privacy of their parishioners but at the same time, if you worship Calistria then do you really care about your privacy?
I would say that Doumane probably wouldn't know if he can just show up without reason.

I have no idea how to deal with Jarvyce, let alone Dragomirs. Doumane is being too reactive and not active enough. I just don't have enough resources to get ahead of everyone....Have to be smart.
So in this case, would you provide your player with resources? I realize that Doumane hasn't gotten much loot, if any.
Oh, I don't mean physical resources like loot. This is a major city and frankly, I run very light loot games too, as I am sure you have noticed.
No, I meant more like...allies. I am really enjoying this game but I can't help but feel I am floundering (plot wise) around until something bad happens. I don't feel I am driving the narrative to any conclusion. That may be simply the fact I am used to being the GM though, and knowing the full story. I am just worried I'm not working any closer to my goals and not leaving you much of a chance to have me be a hero.
Do you feel like I'm giving you enough info and people as allies? Is there something I'm lacking in doing that makes it feel like you're floundering?

Why would I mind the story? It was awesome! Very appropriate.
I deliberately made it so that his facts picked up once you were in the bazaar even though he spun it to seem like he was watching the whole time.
And the energy thing wasn't a metaphor, it was supposed to be actual magic.
