Aaralyn Karstark

Planning:
Aaralyn gave a small chuckle as she said "Elegant isn't how I would describe my father's writing either." Giving a glace to Nan she then added "Mine on the other hand is rather lovely, it had to be. I got quiet the scolding if it wasn't." Though her tone was more playful in nature.

"In light of what has happened, should you need help with anything please don't hesitate to ask. With how busy you'll be, I don't think we'll get to spend much time learning about each other before our wedding. So helping you would allow us to talk at least."

Lothar:
Kyros catches the axe blade on his his longer blade, blocking the axe blow before it can connect with his side with some difficulty.Single success not enough damage to deal a "wound" yet. "Strong arm there." Kyros shouts as he uses the momentum of the axe to pull you in so he could hook your shield with his offhand blade before attempting to drag you in for a close attempt at your side. You barely have time to swing your shield down to catch the thin blade in mid stab. 4dmg, He is quicker than you, but he does not seem to have as much pure bulk and strength.

Match?:

Lothar grunts as Kyros' blade slashes his flesh. And counter-attacks!

Fighting 5 Axes 4B: 9d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 6, 2, 6, 2, 6, 3, 5) = 36 28

Fighting on.:
Kyros spins around at the attack, taking a solid shot to the shoulder. He barely deflected that one before is turned into a killing blow. The man's demeanor changes slightly, as if he is now getting serious. He charges you, dropping both blades as he does distracting your eye for a moment. A vicious right hook comes over your shield and adjusts your perception of the world. His other hand wraps around your axe wrist as he attempts to guide you to the ground. 3dmg,opposed brawling against his 23 to break the grab as a lesser action or you can not attack with anything other than a brawling weapon or short blade and take -5 to your combat defense. Brawl:

I had completely forgotten about the injury mechanic in the system. It had been a while since I looked over the combat section!

From the first blow, Lothar will take 1 injury to remove 4 damage from the first stab and another 1 injury to remove that 3 damage (Endurance of 4). So a -2 to all tests.

Bleeding, Lothar struggles to gain control of the fight, seeking any opportunity to punch, elbow, or headbutt his opponent.

Fighting to break free: 5d6 - 2 ⇒ (2, 6, 1, 4, 6) - 2 = 17

Lothar:
Hand waving to move along. The sparring devolves into a brawl, until a few of the men step forward and break you up. Kyros' mask has broken and his well practiced smile has become more of a wild grin as the blood from his broken nose streams down his face. He shakes off those helping him up and strides forward hand outstretched in a sign of friendship.

A day of change.:
The day dawns over bustling activity. It has not been long since the last time an investiture took place here, and now the son must take the place of the father. People look on with trepidation, the nervous energy of those who know not what the future brings is palpable. Within the hall a Septon in his white robes speaks the words to a small crowd gathered to hear. The words that signal a change that Mark's the turning point in the fortunes of the house. And now, stands a new Lord with the long March of time before him... and the chill cold of the world nipping at his heels.

Darne wore his best and stood there through the ceremony still trying to figure out what he would say. Everything had happened so fast and his rise to Lord of the House had been in a way he had not wished. When the ceremony was done, he stepped forwards in front of the small crowd.

He cleared his throat "We are here to celebrate a joyous occasion, but to me it is a sad one. Since my father had been raised to be the Lord of this land, I knew that one day I would follow in his footsteps. And I will admit that are large despite his stature. But, we weren't born Noble. We were fishermen who raised ourselves to merchants and we were successful at that too. My father was a brilliant man and knew an investment when he saw one. It's why the King raised him to Nobility, and my father saw something in me. It's why he raised me and groomed me to take over one day. I can only say for those who know me, see me working among the small folk. I am always learning what you have to do to survive. And with that knowledge, I swear to bring prosperity to our lands and to share that prosperity with you all to help improve your lives so that we all my grow together and prosper." he said at length.

He looked around at those that gathered at bit nervously. He still wasn't very used to speaking in front of crowds. He smiled at those gathered, hoping that they took his pledge seriously and trusted him with their lands and livelihood.

The night before, Lothar makes sure that his clothing is clean and ready for the big day.

This may surprise others, since Lothar is normally a lot more blase about the exact condition of what he wears - though less so with armour.

On the day, Lothar listens intently to his brother's words.

He pauses, waiting to see how the crowd responds.

Having made all the necessary preparations and provided old Lord Naelareon with medicine to allow him to attend the ceremony with strength and poise, Maester Anders stands in the shadows and prays that all goes well.

As he witnesses the ceremony, he can only hope that Darne and Lady Aaralyn will agree to precipitate their union, as he has advised time and time again... Truth be told, he is worried about the future of this young house.

I have been looking forward to this moment since we laid the frame of this story.

Lothar Kyros:
Kyros shakes his head, his exotic hair flowing in the air. This strange man from a strange land seems genuine if a little hard to read. "Any time you need someone to knock you low again, it would be my honor... M'lord."

Aaralyn:
Though she has dressed down, you notice Lyanna in the crowd among the common populace. She smiles broadly and waves at you while Darne speaks to the crowd.

Everyone:
As the words sink into the crowd and the people of your land seem happy with the change, a man steps from the crowd and begins clapping as he moves towards you. A slow thudding noise sets your hair on edge every time his hands come together. As guards move in case of trouble, the man throws back his hood to reveal a long tumble of silvery blonde hair. "Well spoken, though I am sad to hear your father is unwell. The realm is happy to offer any aid you may require." The crowd starts to murmur as they realize what is going on, the heir of the realm stands before them without guard or herald.

Nothing is ever simple.

Aaralyn Karstark

Aaralyn smiles brightly into the crowd upon seeing her friend, but her smile swiftly and noticeably died upon hearing the voice and seeing the face it belonged to. Without even sparing so much as a glace to her betrothed, Aaralyn stepped up into action.

"What a generous offer." Aaralyn spoke out, doing her best to keep her voice calm and even. "It will be remembered. But come! You have yet to be welcomed as a guest. Please please, step into the hall for a taste of bread and salt, some wine to wash it down." Aaralyn encouraged.

Persuasion Convince: 6d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 1, 4, 5, 2) = 19

Drop the 2, so 22 to Convince him to get his butt into the Hall. Right. Now.

"We can speak more there." Aaralyn said before she looked to Darne and gave a small indication for him to lead the way for the Prince.

Then she looked to Lyanna in the crowd, trying to tell her to wait a moment with only a look. As overjoyed as she was to see her friend, the look on her face told Lyanna she was not happy to see them both here at the same time. She had hoped their travels would bring them here on separate occasions. It would have been easier to manage.

Maester Anders pales. Nothing good can come of this! Hearing Lady Aaralyn's invitation to the prince, the Maester eclipses himself and hastily makes his way to the kitchen and then the cellar to make sure that the fare is fine and festive. He orders the kitchen to prepare fresh bread and salt and fine wine, along with local delicacies such as bitter berry compote, dried and salted pork, fresh vegetables, aged cheese, and whatever is good and available!

Combat Initiative 3d6 Defense 13 Health 9 Intrigue Initiative 3d6 Defense 9 Composure 9

Darne looked pleased with how his speech seemed to have gone over with his people. However, he suddenly had the breathe stolen from him when the prince stepped into the limelight. Thankfully Aaralyn spoke up and covered his speechlessness till he could restart his brain.

He stepped forwards as Aaralyn gave him the cue to step in. "It's an honor to welcome you to our lands. I hope that you didn't go to the Hall and find us missing. I fear you've robbed me of the chance to give my best impression. But, if you'll come with me, I hope I can show you the hospitality that a guest of our lands should come to expect." he said trying his best to return to proper decorum.

Persuasion (Charm): 5d6 + 2d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 1, 1, 4) + (3, 3) = 16

Rerolls: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 2) = 8 Oh lords that is extraordinarily average but hopefully that should be good enough? 19 if I didn't do math wrong.

Everyone:
[occ]On the plus side, Aaralyn took point so Darne just adds his passive bonus to her roll...down side, heir apparent walking through the hall of a subordinate. Don't expect to talk his lordship into things he didn't want to do.[/ooc]

Rhaegar Targaryen walks along beside Darne as they strode towards the kitchens. His easy conversation setting everyone who can be at ease. Unfortunately, this does not include any within the entourage forming around him. Your servants run before you, setting the way and doing all manner of tasks to make certain this visit goes as well as can be hoped for.

Rhaegar seems pleased with the manner in which he is received, insisting whenever asked that he does not wish to put your house to any trouble on his acount. None who have even the slightest experience with the games of nobility have any illusions about the necessity of every single nicety. The house walks on shards of broken glass, with a prize dangling just beyond reach.

Darne was a little tense at the moment as they made their way through the Hall. The servants scrambling to make it prepared for a royal guest. He combed his hair a bit with his hand nervously. "Apologies for the poor welcome. Had I been aware of your arrival, I would have made sure to provide a more proper welcoming. I have already begun making sure that you will have a comfortable stay. The servants are taking care to prepare my own room for you. Anything you need of course, you simply have to ask and I shall make sure it's provided." he said trying to show his house was indeed intent on maintaining their relationship with the Prince's family.

"How was your trip here? I hope that the roads were pleasant and uneventful." he asked after making sure the Prince's comforts would be taken care of properly and to his satisfaction.

Kyros:

****************

Lothar follows close behind his brother and the...prince!?

Damnation!

Aaralyn Karstark

Pleased to see how Darne was handling this, Aaralyn remained quiet at his side. He was doing well enough at the moment that she didn't feel the need to step in... yet.

After all she needed to know that Darne could handle things like this on his own. Though testing him on this with the Prince... trial by fire was the only thing she could call it. Though she did notice one thing, Darne had forgotten introductions.

"Lord Naelareon is a thoughtful man when it comes to others." Aaralyn spoke up. "A goods trait in a future husband. Though one thing has been overlooked your Grace, this is Lord Naelareon's younger brother Lothar Naelareon."

Having taken care to direct the kitchen to serve a feast worthy of their guest, Maester Anders turns his attention to the guards, doubling the watch and, inasmuch as possible, trying to keep the gossip and murmurs to a minimum. He knows better than to imagine that the news will not spread like wildfire, but if the house guards and servants at least can conserve a modicum of decorum, ridiculous rumors and conjectures may be avoided...

Much better roll from Darne this time around.

"Yes, I do have need of thoughtful men." Rhaegar smiles as the family tries its best to wheel this change of fortunes in their favor. "And men of strong arm as well. Do I not remember you from the tourney good Ser Lothar?"

Anders:
I will need a Status(Stewardship) Roll from you as you are attempting to run interference with the servants.

Aaralyn Karstark

Aaralyn smiled a bit, Rhaeger was easy to get along with she had to admit. But either way it seemed the boys where off on the right foot. "I have a matter to attend to, so I'll leave you gentlemen to your talks." Aaralyn said with a respectful tone. "Hopefully we will get a chance to speak later your Grace."

With that Aaralyn excused herself to swiftly go and find Lyanna. The stress of hosting one of the royal family was easily offset by the fact she'd have a good friend there as well.

"Aye, your Grace. I am Lothar Naelareon, and I am proud of my axe-work in the tourney. Your own skill was something to behold."

Lothar means every word. He is not one for bowing and scraping, but the Prince does have a fine sword-arm.

Darne smiled at his brother as he spoke up and nodded slightly at Lady Aaralyn as she left. He turned to the Prince "My brother did a fine job representing himself and our family at our first major tournament. It was a shame we did not get a better chance to speak at the tourney. I must say that am deeply humbled that you would make it out to our humble Hall to attend my wedding. Your presence is a great blessing. he said as they walked.

"Tell me, was there anything you were hoping to do in our domain? You have arrived rather early so if there was anything you wished to experience or visit, myself and my family will make sure to help provide with the opportunity or means if possible by our hand." he said trying to show their support and confirm his family's allegiance and commitment to being good hosts.

Status (Stewardship): 5d6 - 1 ⇒ (6, 1, 2, 5, 3) - 1 = 16

Anders:
You manage to get the servants running to and fro, though it does seem most are a bit frazzled with the arrival of the prince without there having been any plans in place for this early of a visit.

Darne:
Status(Breeding) roll please.

Aaralyn:
It is not hard for you to track down Lyanna as she is looking for you as well. A smile on her face and arms wide open, she approaches to embrace her favorite relative.

Destiny: 1d6 ⇒ 5

Earlier since I was only aiding, the destiny point I attempted to use would not have been able to be used...use it now?

Darne:
That is fine

Darne catches himself as he implies the prince might arrive at something other than as he chooses. Thankfully, it seems the prince has either ignored or missed the implications of the statement.

"A good tourney to be sure. Though not as I had hoped it would have been. I am glad to stay for your impending nuptials, mayhaps my presence will bring good fortunes to your marriage? As to what I wish, does a Heir need any reason to visit his future banners? I do have things to discuss with you, but those can wait until we have had a meal and I have been given a proper chance to know you and your future wife."

Aaralyn Karstark

A reunion of the heart:
Aaralyn smiled brightly when she saw Lyanna. Throwing proper to the wind, Aaralyn ran to her friend and threw her arms around her hugging her tightly. "I'm so glad you're here." She told Lyanna as she squeezed her friend before letting go. "Everything went from difficult to crazied! These past few months have been... tring. We were attacked by a bear before coming here! Savaric was seriously wound and is still recovering under the care of Lord Roote, my soon to be father by law has fallen ill, and the Prince sents little to no notice and just pops in!" Aaralyn told her friend. Then after a moment she sighed and smiled again. "I'm so glad you're here!"

Darne smiled broadly "Aye, indeed we will have a fine meal. The Riverlands is a wonderful place to fine fresh ingredients and meat of all kinds. If you have any favorites or perhaps you would even enjoy the company of myself and my brother on a hunt we would happy to begin arrangements. And, of course, I can see no better blessing of our marriage than your presence. But, as you have said, first let us eat and we can get to know each other better." he said smiling back.

"A hunt would be most welcomed. Let us see what your servants have prepared for us, then we will discuss what is and what could be."

Aaralyn:
"Dearest Aaralyn, you really stepped in it now. Maybe you should fill me in... after I get many leagues off my boots and a good drink for both of us. Then you can tell me all about this husband of yours." Lyanna smiles mischievously at the thought of your marrying before her. You are well aware of how much trouble that smile can get you in.

Aaralyn Karstark

I did not!:
"I didn't step in anything!" Aaralyn said as she crossed her arms. "But I will tell you everything." She agreed as she walked Lyanna to a place she could get something to eat and drink, and rest from her long journey. Once she was seated Aaralyn went into everything, what happened right after the tourney, Tele's attack and how they all believed she was dead, how that lead Aaralyn out to seek her body to return home, only to be attacked by a bear, how she had fallen into the river, and the Maester and heir now Lord had saved her. "He has been kind to me. I don't hate him, and I even some what enjoy his company. My engagement gift was food to he sent up North to Karhold for my people. I'm not sure if it has left yet." Aaralyn said to finish her story. "I guess there could have been worse choices, at least Darne can make me smile a bit. That's a good sign right?"

Returning to the hall, Maester Anders is pleased to hear the brothers and the prince discussing a hunt. Anything to distract the prince from the object of his attention!

Thinking upon the situation, he cannot but suspect that this – Prince Rhaegar and Lady Lyanna both being here – is no mere coincidence. And if his suspicions are true, then this chance meeting was arranged by messengers or Maesters...

How much, if anything, does Maester Anders know about the prophecy of The Prince That Was Promised?
Knowledge, Education: 5d6 - 2 ⇒ (2, 4, 6, 4, 6) - 2 = 20

Anders:
"A prince born amidst salt and smoke, beneath a bleeding star shall come. And to that prince will belong a song of ice and fire. When the dead walk south and the night rides to the north, when a hero is reborn from the sea and living dragons are hatched from dead stone, when kings fall and bastards rise, the prince that is promised will stand athwart disaster and turn it aside." Prophecy is interesting, but hard to parse before it comes to pass. Though, you could start researching it if it has caught your fancy.

Aaralyn:
"Oh, better than Blackwood? I thought you were all fluttery about that one. But, after all you went through I am happy you found someone who makes you smile."

Combat Initiative 3d6 Defense 13 Health 9 Intrigue Initiative 3d6 Defense 9 Composure 9

Darne nodded and looked back towards his brother. He had noted that Lady Karstark had taken a backseat in this jaunt but he hadn't expected her to leave given the circumstances and their plans.

When one of the servants moved to go past him, he quickly grabbed their arm to get their attention. He whispered quietly to them "Please find two of the pages, send one through the hall to find Lady Karstark, send the other back to where we had the House announcement and around the area to any place she might have gone. Her attendance at the Hall tables is requested...by the Prince" he said quickly before letting go and turning his attention back to the Prince.

He smiled and beckoned the Prince into the dining room, hoping the Maester had managed to get everything in order in time.

Aaralyn Karstark

Dreams can change:
"It's true, I had hoped that Tytos would ask for my hand... but father said nothing about him even when I asked. So I guess he didn't think I was worth the trouble... or maybe his father didn't like the match. That said, I was completely honest with Darne when we where first told our fathers made the arrangement for out marriage. I told him that he wasn't the choice I wanted in a marriage and that he would have the three months to change my mind." Aaralyn explained, a small chuckle leaving her lips. "Then... he saved my life. Him and his Maester. They put my life and safety above their own... which we say should be how all noble people live yet... how many would truly do that?" She asked. "This newly made noble had already grasped something many families cannot seem to get. They focus completely upon themselves and not upon their people at all. I knew my marriage would be needed to help my people. I had no illusions of that at all. I only wanted it to be on my terms, after all I'm the one who would have to wake up next to my husband every morning. I told my father that and he agreed, that if I truly did not like Darne then I could break it off. There are other families in the Riverlands after all." Aaralyn paused for a moment before she looked to Lyanna. "Have you spoke with your father about Robert? You have that right you know? To deny the match. Even if they drag you into the Godswood or sept kicking and screaming they cannot make you say yes. Nor would I allow that to happen, your father is coming down for my wedding no? I will have to speak with him... your brothers too... and Robert... especially Robert." She said as a grin slowly came to her lips. "I did invite the whole Stark family after all, and knowing Ned he will bring Robert..." Aaralyn mind began to go over things she would say to the Stormland's Lord, then something else popped into her mind. "Oh! I also need to warn you, the maester believes the Prince is here early because of you. Really I'm not too fond of the man, though he does seem to have a sound head upon his shoulders. Also before you ask, no. I have not told them of our little secret. However... the Prince's actions at the tourney have sent tongue wagging and minds turning, so please for my sanity keep him at a distance? I don't need to beat my maester for talking poorly about you, almost did that before when the topic of the Prince's visit followed your letter... Only thing that saves him was he spoke more of the Prince than you."

Nothing about there needing three? Also: any rumours about Prince Rhaegar's wife and descendants, specifically about her not having more children?

Aaralyn Karstark

Of course it is up to the GM, but *put on lore hat* it is well known that Ellia has had problems after each birth. Their first child left her bedridden for half a year and having their second almost killed her. Being royal you don't get much privacy, and being bedridden for half a year would be hard to hide. It says that the Maesters told Ellia and Rhaeger that they cannot have anymore children, now if that was made common knowledge is a different question but rumors might be around. Servants talk. *takes off hat* I hope this helps!

Lothar beams with genuine enthusiasm.

"I am certain that we can find some decent game to pursue, your Grace!"

Rumors of the royal troubles yes. The dragon needing three heads, that is Rhaegar thinking about how his ancestors were three and not what was written in the prophecy. No one else mentions that portion when talking about the prince that was promised.

Can Maester Anders interrupt Aaralyn's conversation with Lyanna? Otherwise, he'll simply return to the hall and bear witness to the conversation between the young lord and the prince...

Aaralyn had to leave the hall to meet up with Lyanna, so witnessing the conversation with the prince is your best bet.

Having prepared the household and the guards to the best of his ability, Maester Anders returns to the hall and stands behind Lord Naelareon...

Aaralyn:
"So, you have a pig-headed stuffy Maester, a mostly acceptable husband to be, and a problem with the royal family... did I understand that correctly? How you find time to worry about my situation or give me sound advice on it is beyond me, I could not manage as well." Lyanna gives you a genuine smile of thankfulness tinged with some guilt and worry.

The prince gestures towards the seats. "It is your hall my friends, be you seated. I am glad we might find entertainment and the chance to strengthen our bonds. I am sorely in need of trustworthy companions."

Darne smiled "You have been with me the entire time this Hall has been mine." he said jokingly. He gave a small laugh before waiting till everyone was by their seats before sitting.

He looked at the prince "It worries me that you find yourself in need of such people. You are our Prince after all. But, I can assure you, a Naelareon's word is his law. There is no bigger mistake or disgrace than for a merchant to reneg on their word and that has been beaten into our blood by my father." he said with deadly seriousness.

His tone then changed "If you find us of pleasant company and capability, my Prince, then I would be honored to earn that title of trusted companion as would my brother and I am sure my soon to be wife."

That's what friends do:
Aaralyn offered a kind smile before she hugged her friend. "Because that's what friends do." Aaralyn told her. "They give you the courage you cannot have on your own." She let her friend go and added "Besides, you came all the way here for me."

Aaralyn:
"If I meet a man worthy of attention I will let you know, it seems all the good ones are currently taken." Lyanna giggles at the idea.

"Good, then it is agreed. I will be a gracious guest, and you my gracious host, and together we shall see how well we can propel your good house to greatness." The prince places a hand on Lothar's shoulder. "And get you a proper knighthood. The way you fight I could see a place on the King's Guard for you when it is my time to sit the Iron throne."

A chill goes through Lothar's spine.

Of excitement?

I could be in the King's Guard!

Of fear?

I would be in the King's Guard - not with Darne!

"You honour me, Your Grace. That is for the future though, and we have a hunt to arrange.", he offers with a grin, if not as wide as before.

Weighted with thought.

Aaralyn Karstark

I hope so:
"Well, maybe you should break it off with the one you're promised to first." Aaralyn suggested. "It isn't fair to him or you. You can't openly look because of him, and because he still believes you're going to marry him he can't openly search for a new bride either. Though I pity the woman who says yes..." She stated, a slight shake of her head following. "Why don't you do it before the wedding? Everyone will be under one roof, and if things get messy I can have it handled. Not to mention should your father or more likely Robert, becomes a complete ass I can have them thrown out."
