Terribly sorry, I keep forgetting that summoned creatures act just after they are summoned. I apologize for the long post because of this!

Selia mentally commands the eagle to swoop down on the goblin next to where it materialized.

Round 2 | Summoned Monster | Full Round Action - Full Attack - goblin to the left of eagle

Attack Roll (bite): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Damage Roll (bite): 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Attack Roll (talon): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Damage Roll (bite): 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

With a screech, the eagle bites it's adversary, then digs in deep with one of its wickedly sharp talons.

Round 3 | Summoned Monster | Move Action - nearest living goblin | Standard Action - Attack - nearest living goblin

Attack Roll (bite): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Damage Roll (bite): 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Round 3 | Selia | Ready Action - Attack - fire crossbow at any goblin that comes into sight without a companion being in the line of fire

No worries ... I haven't gotten around to getting an update posted yet, but hope to do so tonight. Thanks for the update!!

[Early Morning, Round 3 - Inside Sandpoint Glassworks, Third Day After Goblin Raid]

Nicholae steps forward, and is able to gift himself, Hakak and Jubrayl with divine blessings (you 3 are under a Bless spell).

Hakak swings, but misses a goblin dancing atop a table. He spits out a curses to you in his wicked language.

Jubrayl sprints forward, standing side by side to Hakak.

With a screech, the newly appeared eagle bites it's closest adversary, then digs in deep with one of its wickedly sharp talons. The little goblin is ripped to shreds. Selia’s crossbow snaps out another bolt, which downs the fleeing goblin who had been wounded earlier.

Lleider hugs the back wall, firing with this stout bow. The arrow grazes the goblin’s neck.

Ned’s sword crashes down again at the feet of his giggling opponent, who is holding a blob of molten glass, eager to see what happens when it hits.

The goblin swings his molten weapon right at Ned’s face, but the ranger easily swats the tongs away with his sword.

A goblin hops up on top of a cabinet in one of the bay windows, and tosses a sheet of broken glass right at Ned. He misses, but shards of sharp glass are scattered in front of you (NOTE: marked on map with a yellow square … moving through here could hurt!).

Lleider’s quarry tosses an armful of glass right at the lot of you. The glass shatters on the stone floor (NOTE: another yellow square marked).

Goblin12 (in melee, just east vs the eagle), whips out his well-worn dogslicer, and inflicts a blow against his opponent (3 hp damage).

Goblin15 (atop the table, between Hakak and Jubrayl) also tosses some glass, which smashes into the floor next to Hakak.

Goblin14 does the same to Jubrayl, also missing, but making a mess in front of the aasimar, with dozens of jagged shards of glass now lying to the side of the table.

(note – about all that broken glass … it’s the same as caltrops).

Spoiler:

Each time a creature moves into an area covered by caltrops (or spends a round fighting while standing in such an area), it runs the risk of stepping on one. Make an attack roll for the caltrops (base attack bonus +0) against the creature. For this attack, the creature's shield, armor, and deflection bonuses do not count. If the creature is wearing shoes or other footwear, it gets a +2 armor bonus to AC. If the attack succeeds, the creature has stepped on a caltrop. The caltrop deals 1 point of damage, and the creature's speed is reduced by half because its foot is wounded. This movement penalty lasts for 24 hours, until the creature is successfully treated with a DC 15 Heal check, or until it receives at least 1 point of magical healing. A charging or running creature must immediately stop if it steps on a caltrop. Any creature moving at half speed or slower can pick its way through a bed of caltrops with no trouble.

Nicholae avoids the worst of the glass shards but his footwork is off and his swing, though powerful, misses widely.

Lleidr will make a 5' step to the north.

Although the wall is at an angle through the square, I'm hoping his Small size will allow him to occupy the space. From there, he should have a clear shot at several of the goblins without putting his companions at risk. If it's too small a space, I'll keep in mind that he's barefoot and not move him into the broken glass; instead, I'll have him remain where he is and target as safely as possible.

Nicholae charges past Jubrayl into the patch of glass in front of the Aasimar and swings at the goblin. Nicholae avoids the worst of the glass shards but his footwork is off and his swing, though powerful, misses widely.

Jubrayl and Hakak crash the ceramic-topped table onto its side. The little goblin lurches and ends up sprawled upon the floor.

With another screech, the eagle dives down on the closest goblin, talons and beak bared. Its prey yelps and in vain, tries to ward off the beast by waving his dogslicer around in the air.

Lleidr squeezes in to the side, partially behind Selia, firing another arrow, which gets stuck in a goblin’s leather armor.

Ned’s blade neatly lops the head off his adversary, and the body crashes atop the table.

Goblin11 (was 3 squares east of Ned), hops off his table, and tries to harry his friend’s attacker. But, his ally, Goblin12, is too distracted to make a proper attack.

Goblin16 (3 squares SE of Lleidr) lobs another fistful of glass at Ned, who is pricked by several of the dagger-like shards for 2 dmg. The area immediately south is now covered in more of this shattered glass.

Goblin15, lying prone, whistles for his friends and thrusts his dogslicer up towards Nicolae. “Boys, let’s turn this fella into a real hothead. Throw ‘im into the fire!” Goblin14 (west of Nicolae) howls with laughter, also threatening the young cleric with his weapon. They’re providing some cover for Goblin13 who rushes over (NOTE – I’m assuming Nic would take an AoO against this grapple maneuver; I only rolled a ‘4’), goes underneath Nicholae’s swing, and wraps both arms around the man, beginning to drag him towards the rumbling furnace.

It's a grapple, and yes, both you and your assailant have the Grappled condition. You might have noticed the matching symbols on both your token and your opponent's. That symbol indicates teh Grappled condition. He's going to start moving you westward, if he succeeds at another Grapple check in his next action.

You most certainly can try to attack with your sword or a light weapon, as your standard action. You're only prohibited from doing something that takes 2 hands.

Alternately, you could instead try to break the grapple (Grapple attempt vs your opponent's CMD) to either free yourself or grapple him, instead. Keep in mind, however, that penalties will apply to your attack and CMD checks.

I'm not 100% sure where Ned is going, actually.

Ned, can you describe your movement a little more specifically? something like '3 squares SE, 1 E' would be great. I'm not sure which direction you're headed, if you're trying to help the eagle or Nicholae.

You are free to act, just note that being Grappled confers penalties to certain actions. Also, just as a reminder, you're under a Bless spell.

You're up first in Initiative order actually. So, your friends' actions happen will happen after your own. Getting a little interesting, eh? I hope that you're wearing flame retardant clothing.

Assuming I have the grappled condition

Grappled

Spoiler:

A grappled creature is restrained by a creature, trap, or effect. Grappled creatures cannot move and take a –4 penalty to Dexterity. A grappled creature takes a –2 penalty on all attack rolls and combat maneuver checks, except those made to grapple or escape a grapple. In addition, grappled creatures can take no action that requires two hands to perform. A grappled character who attempts to cast a spell or use a spell-like ability must make a concentration check (DC 10 + grappler's CMB + spell level), or lose the spell. Grappled creatures cannot make attacks of opportunity.

A grappled creature cannot use Stealth to hide from the creature grappling it, even if a special ability, such as hide in plain sight, would normally allow it to do so. If a grappled creature becomes invisible, through a spell or other ability, it gains a +2 circumstance bonus on its CMD to avoid being grappled, but receives no other benefit.

Casting Spells while Grappled/Grappling: The only spells which can be cast while grappling or pinned are those without somatic components and whose material components (if any) you have in hand. Even so, you must make a concentration check (DC 10 + the grappler's CMB + the level of the spell you're casting) or lose the spell.

If You Are Grappled

If you are grappled, you can attempt to break the grapple as a standard action by making a combat maneuver check [b](DC equal to your opponent's CMD; this does not provoke an attack of opportunity) or Escape Artist check (with a DC equal to your opponent's CMD)[b]. If you succeed, you break the grapple and can act normally.

Nicolae drops his sword and shield to free his hands and makes his own opposed grapple attempt to break the grapple, but he knows its losing game, with more of them than him, he will simply be grappled by another unless his friends can drive them off.

CMB +2 and Bless 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 2 + 1 = 14

Hopefully with the opposed grapple being successful that will mean they'll need to use another round trying to re-establish the grapple before attempting pin or drag maneuvers.

This should leave Nicholae a move action.

Nicholae moves back to behind the table (The space between Hak and Jubryal). This may trigger an AoO

[Early Morning, Round 5 - Inside Sandpoint Glassworks, Third Day After Goblin Raid]

Nicholae jerks himself free of the goblin’s violent embrace and begins a jump back towards the end of the table. Your assailant contents himself with a sweep of the arms towards your legs. (NOTE: this Trip attempt provokes an AoO from you; in the interest of speed, I rolled for you Nic, and got an 8, a miss). With a sudden crash, you find yourself sprawled upon the floor, littered with broken glass. Fortunately, your mail shields you from the worst (1 hp dmg).

Hakak straddles the overturned table and buries his axe deep into the torso of the fallen goblin, who is dead before he can even squeak.

Jubrayl steps up to make a swing, but his target is already dead. Glass crunches underneath your feet.

The eagle vanishes in a thin white mist before you; a single black feather drifts down from the ceiling to rest upon a piece of shattered glass. Selia’s target crumples over with a sigh, but doesn’t fall quite yet.

However, Lleider’s arrow is just enough to finish the job.

Ned scrambles atop the table, slides off the side, and pierces a goblin right through the chest, who slides off the blade and collapses dead onto the floor.

The remaining three goblins look around in horror, fling their weapons aside, and howl for mercy. “Hey, it’s those longshanks what stopped the raid! Don’t hurt us anymore, masters. We goblins be only doing what we’re told, honest.”

(NOTE: since the combat is essentially over, I won’t update the map image this round. If you want to keep fighting the goblins, your success is automatic. In fact, your anger at their wonton destruction is pretty hot right now. The little buggers deserve it, even if they did rid the town of Ameiko’s awful father.)

(NOTE: One other thing, for your combat movements, can you please tell me directions like 2 squares NW, then 1 N, and the same kind of thing for your targets? Check Selia’s last post for an example. On some of your responses, I’m having to guess, and I’d rather the map reflect exactly what you want.)

Can do on that... its a bugger to do but you may want to try a few things I've seen in other PbP games. 1st is number/Alphebetise the up to down/Left to right X/Y axis. Its a bugger to do with each map, particularly the bigger ones but it cuts confusion to nil when a player says 'I move to B7 via A6'... The other is a bit radical BUT I've had a lot of success with it in my own PbP games that I run. Try out www.roll20.net - you literally drag the graphic on the screen as the background option, and then get it to match map size and alignment with a simple function or two. Then go to objects and start slapping in icons. You can even give the players control of said icons. It won't work off an iphone etc so in those situations you or another player can assist but its a fantastic program with a relatively gentle learning curve... oh, and free too. If you wanted someone to walk you through some of it on the phone, I'd even be happy to call you

“Hmm, sounds like that might be longshanks’ lady sister friend. She’s pretty.” The goblin stammers. “But, not uh, not as pretty as you, missus.”

Much to Ned’s dismay, no one else is alive in this room, besides you all and the remaining goblins. The servants lying in the floor are all dead from slashing weapons and terrible burns. As far as the wounds, it's hard to tell what caused them. The goblin weapons could easily have done this, but they could also have been caused by hand-axes or short swords.

We're still investigating could, say one, tow, three, four, five of you come in please? It probably won't be dangerous but we need a few extra hands. Jubrayl picks the five most capable-looking people or people he knows to be capable if they are available and asks them to come inside. Once inside he'll lead them to the goblins, start handing them goblin weapons. Now, we did promise not to kill them since they've surrendered, but at the same time we can't have them running off, you know? So if the five of you could guard these little guys and make sure they aren't doing anything naughty that would be fantastic. We'll be back shortly.

"Good job Jubrayal."

Once the goblins are under guard Ned will start towards the door the goblins indicated.

Hopefully by the time the goblins are secured and the rest of the party catches up, Lleidr has been able to quietly determine which door leads down to the basement and given it a once over for clues and traps.

Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7 (listening at the door for anything of note, guard on the other side, a fair maiden in distress, whatever)

Perception (Trapfinding): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26

When she hears the goblin's response, Selia lowers her crossbow. She smiles politely at the second comment. "No need for flattery. Is there anything else you can tell us? If not, we are going to get some of our friends to watch over you."

She goes back to the others and says, "Call me crazy, but I find myself sympathizing with this group..."

When Jubrayl brings in the townsfolk, Selia approaches them, "Please, make sure these goblins are not hurt, they have been helpful in our investigation. We may need to question them more when we are done here."

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21

After speaking with the townsfolk, she joins the others at the door.

"You're crazy" Ned grumbles.
