Yet Another ... Rise of the Runelords PBP

Starting in the sleepy coastal town of Sandpoint, danger lurks.

[Early Morning, Inside Sandpoint Glassworks, Third Day After Goblin Raid]

[NOTE: I’m making PER checks for you where appropriate, but let me know if there’s a specific area you’d like to check out.]

The gnomish youngster has gone all starry eyed, and dashes off to the street. “Yes, ma’am. I’ll tell ‘em you’re after trouble makers. I heard something crashing back there.”

Somewhat lit by shafts of light piercing in between draperies, the interior hallway leading from the back door is dim and stuffy. Heat emanates from the double doors in front of you. At the end of the hallway, you can see it turn a corner, and there’s a door up ahead as well.

Meanwhile, up front, the farmer nods appreciatively. [NOTE: good job on the Diplomacy & Aid Another!]. “Well, now, it is right odd that the glass house is all shut up like this. Usually they’ve got all kinds of folks coming and going in and out of that place. Maybe you boys can sort it out. Good luck to you.” The crowd begins to thin some, as the townsfolk start up again on their daily errands, their curiosity sated for the time being.

It takes all three of you working together to smash the door down. You’ve entered a large reception room, probably used for greeting customers. Fancy cushioned furniture fit for a noble’s hall is all around the chamber. There are three other doors out of here: two are on the north wall, and there’s another to the east.

Yeah, I think Hakak is mobile only, unfortunately. If I ever do another PBP, I'll probably have Maptool as the medium to handle exploration, though.

I'm actually playing a Maptool game right now. When I'm at work I update my position on the map and when I'm not I say exactly where I'm going and either let the GM update me or I do it when I get to work.

"Maybe you should've told him five minutes twice? Easier for him to count," Lleidr grins at Ned before quietly moving up to the double doors. He'll take a moment to listen and, if all sounds clear, open them up for a peek inside.

Slight mistake on the map. I thought Ned was with the group in front. Turns out, he's with Selia and Lleidr. I'll update the map tonight.

Originally, Selia was at the front door with Hakak and Jubrayl. However, the gnomish boy, who was apparently addressing the two in back, also addressed Selia and I didn't catch that before. She can be in either spot.

I do think we should either figure out who was where or just leave it as you have it on the map :D

[Early Morning, Inside Sandpoint Glassworks, Third Day After Goblin Raid]

The front group comes upon a dusty storage room, crowded with old wood cabinets overflowing with signed parchments, many bearing wax seals. At a glance, they all look like contracts of some sort. There are no other visible exits from this room other than the door you’re holding open.

Meanwhile ... in the back of the glassworks:

Lleidr carefully opens the double doors. All three of you are hit with a wave of heat roiling out of an immense room whose entire back wall is a fiery furnace. Immediately in front of you are two goblins cackling and dancing atop a table, tossing sheets of glass onto the floor. Their backs are to you. You three can all hear laughter from other goblins outside your point of view.

"Goblins!" Lleidr hisses over his shoulder as he readies his bow. If he can, he'll use a 5' movement to step in the room and to the side, out of the way for Ned to become a target...uh, I mean for Ned to get inside. If that's not possible, I'd like just to 5' out of the way.

I need Ziltmilt to confirm, but I think this is a surprise round, so I can only move or attack, and I used a move action to ready my bow.

[Early Morning, Inside Sandpoint Glassworks, Third Day After Goblin Raid]

The group in front comes into a long hallway. It appears to stretch out in a wide passage to the northwest as well as a smaller hall to due east.

[NOTE – I didn’t get any move orders from you, and I got nothing specific from Selia. But, it’s just a surprise round, so far. I think that I’m going to abandon individual initiative and just revert to group initiative for NPCs, so that you’re either going before or after them. That should make combats easier for you as far as coordinating together. Instead of labels for the grid, let’s try this for your movement – from your current position, tell me the # of squares you wish to move and the direction]

Lleider’s arrow strikes true and elicits a yelp of surprise from the closest goblin, who turns towards his assailants with an angry glare. Ned’s aim is a bit off, and the arrow sails into the furnace, disappearing in a whiff of flame.

Lleidr will move 2 squares southwest, which I think should have him kinda hugging the wall of the room, moving towards the furnaces. From there, he'll take another shot at the goblin he just hit, or the next closest if that goblin's down.

Hakak is running in right on Nicholae and Jubrayl's heels so close he's nearly knocking them over as he enters the room.

[Early Morning, Inside Sandpoint Glassworks, Third Day After Goblin Raid]

Group in front: right in front of you is a door going east. The hallway behind has 3 doors. There is a door in a south wall, one in the west wall, and double doors in the extra-wide north-west passage. You’ve got another move action, if you’d like to take it this round.

Group in back: [NOTE: initiative worked out really well this combat. I’m rolling once for each NPC faction, and each of you in the back got an Init result greater than the goblins. You all go first. Unfortunately, I don’t have an action for Selia, so I’ll assume one.]

Selia steps inside, firing at a goblin with her crossbow, but misses.

Lleider steps inside, and goblin yells at surprise at your intrusion are drowned out by the massive rumbling furnace in front of you.

Your second arrow knocks a wooden bowl off the goblin’s head, which your target was using as a helmet.

Ned’s arrow pierces the leather armor of the same goblin, but the little fellow still stands. All of you are surprised to see eight mutilated bodies of the factory staff lying around randomly in various stages of dismemberment. Most horrifying, in an alcove, lies the body of Lonjiku, propped up in a wooden chair and encased in thick, runny sheets of hardened glass.

A goblin runs across the marble table in front of you with a tong of dripping molten glass. Ned is able to deftly dodge the creature’s swing. Drops of liquid glass spatter on the stone floor in front of you.

The hurt goblin backs off and limps away from you, muttering something in his foul tongue. You can catch the word ‘Tsuto’.

Several more goblins scream and cry out with both rage and glee, many bearing tongs of glass, or hardened glass balls they’re preparing to throw at you. A few are waving their dogslicers in the air with glee.

It doesn't look like there's anything to fight in here anyway. Unless Nich has been holding out on us it seems our only option is to explore the whole building as quickly as possible.

[Early Morning, Inside Sandpoint Glassworks, Third Day After Goblin Raid] – resolving Front Group 2nd move actions

In the interest of time, I’m taking a bit of liberty with the 2nd group, and so I hope you don’t mind. Your 2nd move action was to go east. The eastern door swings open quickly, and you all rush into a loading room with two double-door exits. An open safe sits next to a wheelbarrow. The northern doors open easily, revealing a scene of chaos inside the next chamber.

I’ve already gotten actions for the front group. Now I need actions for the next round from Ned and Hakak, and either a move or standard action from Jubrayl. I’m assuming that Jubrayl has used a move action in the next round to open the double doors, and would have chosen that exit as opposed to the four others, given the intense heat, goblin growls, and cries of dismay coming from his comrades on the other side.

So, we’ve got an action already for Ned for the coming round. No movement for Ned, though? I’ll need actions for everyone else.

Upon seeing the carnage in the room Hakak explodes in a fit of rage, which he will take out on whomever is in front of him.
Hakak can have up to 10 rounds of rage and gets +4 to str and con and -2 to AC, so I advise everyone stay out of his way.
Free action:activate rage, move action:stay where I am, standard action:attack goblin in front of me.
Attack roll: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
All that build up just to get a critical miss, now that is just my luck.
