DM Nightbringer |

Welcome to Wrath of the Righteous
It's been a long time sine I've run a campaign and I've decided to jump back into DM'ing with a mythic campaign that will allow me to enjoy my more sadistic urges. The opportunity to carefully marshal a group of adventurers from level one up through an assault on the abyss itself is simply too great a temptation.
I am looking for 6 level 1 characters. I am not setting hard limits on intended paths, but would appreciate knowing the characters intentions.
Recruitment will run through Friday night, and I will post recruitment results over the weekend. My intention is to kick the campaign off next Monday.
Lets keep things simple with a 20 point buy (no stats below 8, only a single stat below 10) using Paizo material only. I may choose to slip in the occasional spell or magic item from another source latter on. Two initial traits, one of which must be campaign specific. Average starting wealth.
Inactivity kills pbp games. I would like players to post at least once a day during the week. Weekends happen. I will be checking a minimum of at least twice a day during the week and at least once on weekends.
I intend to ensure the campaign remains challenging. My understanding is players in WotR soon overpower the AP as written even with only 4 players. I will be adjusting encounter difficulties to ensure combats last more than 1-2 rounds.
When it comes to RAW vs RAI, I tend to side with RAI. Common sense should prevail. If something is obviously broken or unintended I will fix it and move on. Lets keep things fun for everybody, DM and all players.
I am using hard copy AP's so my ability to post maps cut directly from the the PDF's will be limited initially. Worst case scenario, I will draw up maps in Excel.

Gabriel Worldwalker |
Gabriel Earthwalker. Cleric / Sorcerer of Sinashakti.
edit: Will have to redo equipment for average starting wealth.

Orfamay Quest |

I have an urge to try playing a master summoner, and in a PBP game, that won't slow the game down as much as it might in an FTF. So, to that end, I present Norberta.
Female Gnome Master Summoner and Evolutionist. Eidolon takes the form of a large brightly colored frog that looks like it just escaped from a My Little Pony show; Norberta herself looks very much like a chibi version of Princess Leia, ear-danishes and all, except that Norberta tends to look more dishevelled and to wear practically a helmet made of hairpins to hold it together.
Detailed character sheet under construction.
Norberta Thimblerigger Elias Fatwilliamsdotter is the eldest surviving child and scion of the Elias family of gnomes. For more than 500 years, the Elias family had extensive holdings in and near what is now the Worldwound, and the stories of these holdings are part of the family lore. Her father, Fatwilliams Dragontongue Lord Elias Magister Grimbeard has been a staunch supporter of the Mendevian crusades and the quest to drive the demons out of Golarion. He has lost a son and a daughter, both cavaliers, to these quests, but still, having heard about this expedition, has sent Norberta to assist in the fight for civilization itself.
Norberta is a relatively young gnome, honest and honorable to a fault, who has dedicated herself to the ideals of honor, service, and civilization. If it weren't for her particular abilities as an arcane caster, she would probably have become a cavalier like her siblings. As is, she still has absorbed much of the cavalier's code into her daily life, but puts her own arcane and rather "cute" spin on it.
She is much more book-learned than practical, considering, for example, that there's no particular reason why a noble knight should ride a pony or a dog instead of a bright pink frog. She has an extensive collection of maps (and simply loves cartography), and will spend hours poring over a map of Cheliax instead of wondering what's right across the brook she's camped next to -- and would probably scribble notes on a hand-made map if for some reason she had to go gather firewood there. She is not particularly tactically minded but will presumably have lots of opportunities to learn.
Despite the fact that she's not the sharpest knife in the drawer, she is nevertheless a loyal and brave companion who will cheerfully accept rough conditions as part of the job she needs to do.

Talomyr |

Dotting for interest. Likely to submit an Inquisitor of Iomedea.
@DM Nightbringer: Which races are allowed for this game? I would assume the races in the CRB are fine, any others? I might be considering an aasimar. If I were to pick an aasimar, would the aasimar "sub-races" be available (i.e. angel-born, archon-born, etc.)?

I have no issues with the tiefling/aasimar "sub-races". I would prefer to keep races to core/featured unless there is a really good reason.
Too many non-core races in a single party make my inner grognard twitch. I'll try to avoid selecting an all aasimar/tiefling/dhampir group if at all possible.
I can safely cope with 2-3 featured races before adverse reactions set in.

Mia Rumsfield |

I'd like to submit Mia Rumsfield.

Appearance:
Mia's appearance is fair but quite deceptive. If one'd see her at first sight, you'd think you were looking at a young human child. A sweet innocent looking face together with thick blond curly hair, a green ribbon keeping it together. Her hair covers her halfling ears. Her feet are also smaller than most halflings and so contrary to other halfling folk, she wears shoes, completing the image. She is the kind of thing you usually let your guard down with.
This appearance has tricked many into helping this "poor little child".

Background
Mia grew up in a city to the east Kenabras to an adoptive human witch, whom was so under the guise of an apothecary. Mia's mother and father were among the few halflings from the city answering the call for aid against the evil. Sadly, letters they usually sent her stopped coming. Mia had received a letter with the wax seal of the city of Kenabras, offering condolances with her parents' unfortunate passing.
When her adoptive mother Sarah was to deliver a parcel to Kenabras, Mia insisted she'd come along. Despite the risk of taking along a small one like Mia, Sarah eventually agreed. Mia and Sarah arrived at Kenabras, unknowing the event fate had in store for them.

If you allow ACG classes, I'd like to present Laris, who was not selected for another game.
I am tempted to change her to being human, as Aasimar tend to be over represented, if Skald is unavailable may switch to a plain bard or bard/fighter multiclass.
I don't have a problem with ACG classes.
Like featured races, I will try to avoid taking an entire party using non-core classes. Two or three UCG/ACG classes won't bother me.
Maintaining a balanced party will be the most important element. Character concept and back story will be a close second.

Verim Pharae |

I'd like to Submit Verim who like Laris and Mia was not selected for a Game recently. A fun loving Sheidlbrother who's main focus is protecting others and bringing the fight to the demons. He will focus on Deflecting attacks from allies and providing that needed martial prowess to storm through the army of Demons. I would absolutely love it if he had a paladin to play off of or Cleric who also used a shield. He would be going Guardian. His signature Weapon will be Hero's Seal which I plan on being an Adamantine Heavy Shield He lost and eventually recovers ((By paying for it ofcourse))

@Gabriel, you are going to level 30 with that plan, pathfinder goes to level 20, I assume you are use to D&D which goes to level 30.
Also, a debate comes up, but does mage armor or shield spell stack with armor ACs? Some DMs say no, but as a DM I've interpretted it with, it is a force field of some sort on top of your armor.
The spell does not say it does or does not stack.

1 + 1 + 2 + 10 + 6 = 20
Unless this new math you youngsters are using is that different !
edit: Oh, you meant the 19 + 11. Well Mystic Theurge gives you a spell level in Cleric and Sorcerer so even though he is a 20th level character, with the 10 MT levels he has spells of 19 Cleric and 11 Sorcerer by the 20th character level.

This is not a debate, Shield and Mage armor are what they are.. an Armor and a Shield bonus and in the base rules you take the highest bonus and apply it. If you had Fullplate and Mage armor.. you would take the Fullplate's base 9 and use that to AC, if you go against an Incorporeal then you take the Mage Armor's bonus.

DoubleGold |

concept of my guy...
Fighter 12- armor master. Magus or sorceror 8. If I'm a sorceror, some of my feats would be the ones that can reduce arcane spell failure, if I'm a magus, hey I can use medium armor without the penalty eventually. All close up spells, with a few defensive ones. If I go invisible for a round, I can flank, or I can blur myself in order to play a defensive melee fighter. Bulls strength myself for massive damage on the enemy. Burning hands deals with multiple enemies up close.
He is going to be able to surround himself with enemies or gain some sort of tactical advantage. Or magic weapon for extra damage. My bab is lower by doing this, but I can potentially do more damage and be more defensive.
Imagine a fighter armor master with medium or heavy armor on using displacment, high AC with a 50% miss chance on top of that, get the picture. Or bulls strength with the large enchantment added for massive damage with my melee weapon.

Michael Carenae |

Dotting this for further attention.
Rolled up Michael for another WotR campaign that never made it past the first few encounters due to vanishing GM. I still need to run a thorough check of his build against your requirements, but right now it's kind of late so that'll have to wait until tomorrow.
Basic concept: Sword and board paladin, Marshal mythic path.

You sir.. we can be good good friends
Oh and I did plan on taking two levels of Titan Mauler to be able to wield things like Polearms and Heavy blades in his other hand.. otherwise nothing too crazy.. Standard fighter... MAYBE Sentinel later? But most likely 16-18 fighter and 2-4 barbarian. Board and Sword, Rather than Sword and Board.

I would be very eager to join a Wrath of the Righteous campaign. While I am working at getting back into PbP and am new the the Paizo site, when I commit to a game I commit. I should be able to check several times in the evening for me and at least occasionally on the weekends.
My concept is a straight ranger through the levels, aiming for the Champion mythic path. The party's environmental informational gatherer (as opposed to public face), he would be more than willing to scout for the party and get dirty where need be.

Stolen Fury - You were forced to take part in a demonic ritual as a youth after having been captured by cultists. Whatever the ritual’s purpose may have been, it didn’t work out the way your captors envisioned—rather than corrupting your soul, you absorbed the ritual’s energy and made it your own before you escaped to safety. Ever since, you’ve been haunted by strange nightmares about the ritual, and have long felt that the energies it bathed you in have changed you. Recently, those energies have changed— it’s as if you’ve finally managed to come to terms with your past and have turned the ritual’s aftereffects to your advantage, following the old adage of what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. You’ve been unable to learn more about the ritual or what it was for, but the question lingers in the back of your head to this day. This nagging has instilled in you a fury against demonkind. Today, when you face demons in combat, those energies bolster your fury, granting you a +2 trait bonus on all combat maneuver checks against demons. Associated Mythic Path: Champion. Multiple Characters: You and any other PC who takes this trait were all part of the same ritual, and it was only by working together that you managed to escape—further, the support of your fellow ritual survivors has played a key role in your coming to terms with it, and you retain a close bond of friendship (or perhaps a friendly rivalry) to this day.
Vagabond Child - You grew up among the outcasts and outlaws of your society, learning to forage and survive in an urban environment. Choose: Disable Device, Escape Artist, or Sleight of Hand. You gain a +1 bonus on that skill, and it becomes a class skill.

Background

Looking back, it was the turning point of his life. Everything leading up to that point was slowly spinning downwards, leading to a life that was out of control. A streetrat who was pinching coppers from gutters and purses just to meet dues.
But when he got caught trying to break into the newest merchant's shop, his life was quickly on the fast track to suffering. Sold several times from master to master, Tristan finally ended up in a sticky situation. For his last master was a demonic cultist that looked at him like he was fodder. Strange rituals soon followed that caused great pain and subjected him to the whims of many demons.
It was a patrolling warden that freed him, having been on the trail of this cell of cultists for several months. Brudgar Uthyr was his name and he took young Tristan under his tutelage, training him in the ways of protector of the woods. But memories of the rituals he was subjected to never quite left him and haunted his dreams.
While his adopted father hoped that Tristan would take over patrol of the deep forest, something else has become Tristan's goal. Instead he heads for Kenabres, to join the Crusades into the Worldwound. While the nightmares will never fully leave him, he hopes his pledge to the Crusades can save others from having to be subjected to the pains of demons.
--------------------
Appearance and Personality
--------------------
A relatively spry man, Tristan is of middling height and forgettable. Except for the scars that cross his face, some from rival street gangs and others from the claws of demons. He keeps his sandy hair short, preferring to ensure that it remains out of his crystal blue eyes. Unless required to disarm, he is comforted by keeping his weapons close with his hand and a half sword and his warden's bow both in a shoulder scabbard.
Trying to forget his unruly youth that led to his capture, Tristan now strives to be a man upon whom can be depended. He is more than willing to follow orders and will defer to someone who steps up to take charge if they practice logical decision making. With his talents being more along the lines of scouting, he is practiced at being quiet; though as he becomes more comfortable with someone his sense of slightly macabre humor begins to show.
Finding the facts so he can make informed decisions is paramount for him. While not the most comfortable with lies, if they aid in discovering the truth he is willing to play along.
"I just need to know exactly how many wagons should be.... overlooked." Tristan paused just enough so that the man across the table leaned in just a little bit more, though the rank stink of the slaver almost made him gag. "Tariffs from the pass are profitable after all and it will take quite a bit of convincing from my end to get the outpost to ignore even a couple carts worth of cargo."
He had been shadowing the man for several weeks now and was fairly certain that the cargo was the half-orc youth that had been unaccounted for in the aftermath of the butchery two months ago. But before justice could be handed out, he wanted to be certain he had the right man. All was that was needed now was a slip of the tongue.
"But of course!" The voice of the slaver grated in his ears, as rough as his greased hair was not. "I will only have two carts full, it would have been more but green blood are so tough to manage."
There it was, the slip he had been for which he had been hoping. Get them liquored up and even best will reveal the slime that is within them. Now the hunt could begin, though he needed the man to run. Killing the man now would not save the half-orcs, he would have to track the slaver to his hideout. Reaching to his belt, he brought out a narrow wooden tube and handed it across the table.
"Then it is arranged, this is the token that has been evading your grasp." Standing from the table, he turned to leave the smile still etched on his face. As he reached the door of the hut, he spoke the next words with just the faintest breath of air so that the scum would have to strain to hear him. "The justice that has evaded so many of your kind."
The man would run, he would know what the red shafted arrow within the tube meant death. It was common knowledge within the region of the wardens. But Tristan did hope that the man was as greedy as he thought he was, because then there would be no way that the slaver would abandon his goods in his flight.
The hunt had begun....

Initial character sheet for Norberta is available here. (I like the Myth-weavers site, by the way, and recommend it for use in home games as well.)
Equipment is not done yet but will probably be pretty standard.
I don't know enough about the Mythic system to be able to sensibly pick a path yet. What path goes well with an gnomish arcane caster/summoner? I can't imagine the ability to rage like the Hulk would be a useful superhero power for Dr. Strange.....

Summoners can be tricky with mythic rules but, as Verim said, you will almost certainly have to dual path.

Jakru'hn Kaba |

Submitting Jakru'hn Kaba, whose parents were Mwangi and Caldaru, who carries a bow he claims to be Arcadian in origin, passed down through generations. He claims a lot of things, though ...
CN rogue on the path to CG. Decent face character, archer, and can do a little back-up to the frontline, too. Looking for the trickster archetype.

Verim Pharae |

Ah, great. I love feat taxes. On the other hand, the summoner is probably OP enough that this just makes him "average....."
Heh summoner is not OP but you will find that there is not too much support for casting in general.. alot of martials get a boost however... which is good. You'll have to work at it to make your summons good.

Verim Pharae |

TruStrike reporting. I'd be going sorcerer till 12th, then arcane archer the rest of the way, so if I made it to 20th I'd still have 9th level spells. Riftwarden orphan would be my trait if possible
Just letting you know having your Arcane Bond be a two handed weapon might be an issue.. at low levels it will be killer at high levels it'd be trivial however.

DM Nightbringer |

I don't enjoy gunslingers, but I'm not specifically banning them.
Early firearms only and I would place a limit on the number of free actions that could be used in one round to reload double-barreled pistols.
I don't believe the campaign has much for firearms and magic firearms may be difficult to purchase. Obtaining enchanted firearms will require the characters to have appropriate item creation feats.

There's no reason you can't pause from firing and cast a spell without dropping your bow. It only takes one free hand to cast, and one free hand to hold a weapon. If I'm missing a rule somewhere though please let me know

Caleb Derekson |

I'm submitting Caeleb Derekson, a Chaotic Good Male Human Fighter (Two-handed).
Headstrong and resolved, he thinks with his heart before his brain catches up with his actions (most of the time), but that hasn't stopped him from championing the downtrodden and fighting for a just cause.
An Axe to Grind: What better weapon for his strength?
Berserk Button: Rapists, Serial Killers, etc.
Big F*cking Sword: While it isn't a sword, the axe Lord Bremley gave him speaks volumes for itself.
Blood Knight: His particular method of combat tends to leave large pools of blood and human viscera across the ground.
Don't You Dare Pity Me!: He's the kind of character who likes to "go it alone", and adamantly refuses help if brought to his knees.
Lightning Bruiser: Self-explanatory.
Rage Breaking Point: Just try to harm and/or kill a helpless woman in front of him. Note that this does not apply to villains that deserve it.
Screw The Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: Self-explanatory.

Haven't made a forum profile for her yet and I'll have to double-check her starting gear, but I have a demon-spawn tiefling paladin I had for another WotR game that was on Myth Weavers (and sadly died about two fights in) that I'd like to submit - Luciana Moretti.
Name: Luciana Moretti
Gender/Race: Female Demon-Blooded Tiefling
Age: 22
Class: Paladin of Lymnieris
Alignment: Lawful Good
Traits: Stolen Fury (Champion), Inspiring Rush
When expecting combat, she keeps her long, dark hair tied back and tucked down between her armour and white hooded cloak to make it hard for enemies to grab ahold of and to keep it out of her eyes. She also considers her eyes to be her best feature (at least the best feature of her face); the left one is a pale blue while the right is a brilliant green. While demon-blooded tieflings tend to get very angry at people pointing out the asymetrical feature all such tieflings have, Luciana has grown to like the look. The rest of her face is almost stereotypically-Chelish - thin eyebrows and a narrow jaw as well as translucent, pale skin.
Her demonic features are relatively minor - a pair of small fangs, a pair of tiny horns poking up through her hair and a long, black tail emerging from the base of her spine. The tail is surprisingly thin along its length before flaring out into a spade-shaped head on the end about the size of her palm.
Her armour is predominantly functional; a suit of effective armour that still looks good is too far beyond her budget at this point so she makes do with an unflattering breastplate that gets the job done.
When not expecting combat, her clothing is very different - she's got a killer figure and knows it. Short skirts or minimal shorts to best show off her long legs and sleeveless tops to show the hints of muscle in her shoulders and arms (the muscles themselves aren't noticable unless she's flexing them, but she still has the slightly-broader-than-normal shoulders such strength usually accompanies). She also leaves her hair loose, where it hangs to just above her tailbone.
She's well aware that dressing like this is why she's gotten a lot of unwanted male attention - who tend to pay more attention to how well she fills out her shirt than how developed her arms and legs are, though they tend to realise the latter should things get to the point where they start losing teeth. Regardless of what she's wearing, she always has a symbol of Lymnieris hanging from a thin chain around her neck or on her belt.
Despite her womanising, she never 'kisses and tells'. If she ever references a past lover, she will either stick to things outside of the bedroom, or make oblique references and not mention the lady's name or other identifying features, often keeping the latter to people she hasn't been with in months.
While her training has certainly helped manage it, she still has something of a temper, though the spiteful nature she had as a child has passed (unless she can indulge in such vengeance without breaking her vows, in which case she may enjoy it a bit too much). Mostly it just results in snarky and sarcastic comments when annoyed enough. Fortunatly, it's rare that she stays annoyed long enough that these get too harsh but people pushing her too much are likely to get either the rough side of her tongue or the business end of her fist.
Even with this flaw, she takes her duty as a paladin more seriously than anything else. She worked hard to become a paladin and she would never jeopardise it if it can be helped.
Born and raised in Kenabres, Luciana was something of a pain as a child. She had a tendency to break the toys of other kids who angered her and was, in short, just a pain in the neck. When she was ten, she was kidnapped by cultists of one demon or another - she was too young to remember exactly which one - and forced into a strange ritual. She was equal parts terrified and angry when her part in it came up but was as curious as the cultists when it seemed the ritual failed. She'd felt the energy enter her, but all it did was temporarily make her strong enough to break her bonds and escape (accompanied with a well-timed use of her magical ability to shatter glass).
The experience left her with a deep hatred of demon cults (moreso than what most Mendevians harbour) and a strong desire to strike back at them and hopefully put whatever demonic taint she absorbed to a greater use. She worked to become a paladin but her rage held back her training in an Iomedan order. When she was sixteen, she met a travelling priest of Lymnieris who managed to teach her to let go of her anger. Many who know of him forget Lymnieris is as much a patron of those undergoing rites of passage, official or otherwise, as he is of willing prostitutes and the priest saw Luciana's becoming a paladin as such a rite of passage.
The priest told her of a small order of Lymnierisan paladins in Nerosyan and Luciana saw this as her last chance at her dream. With her parents' aid, she went to Mendev's capital and joined the order, refusing to leave until she became a paladin. Three years later, she succeeded and was ordained as a full Paladin of Lymnieris whereupon she returned to Kenabres, hoping to protect her home city from any future cults like the one that kidnapped her.

Hey there! This is Duboris with his CN Warpriest of Groetus, the god of Misery and Madness induced Suicide. I hope you enjoy the character! I had a lot of fun making him and believe that he's got plenty of character growth potential.
He channels as positive energy, if only because the enemies he faces are actually hurt by it. He could care less about healing himself, most of the time. I intend to go down the Power attack buffer line, whilst favoring a few of the less-savory cleric spells if possible.
I sincerely hope you enjoy the character, and hope you don't think he's too depressing. After all, what's the point in becoming good if you don't walk a path of redemption?
If there were ever a man down on his luck throughout every stage of his life, Maxwell is most certainly that man.
At the age of 12, he lost his father and mother to the fourth crusades, as both were deeply seated in the faith of Iomedae. That aside, they ended their lives unjustly at the tip of a goat-demon's blade, according to the wounded paladin that had come to deliver said news. At the time, Maxwell couldn't hear anything else the man had said. Looking back, the muffled, silent words and the flapping of gums muted by the sound of static despair were likely something to do with fighting through it, or that they died for a just cause. The world wound wasn't just, he thought to himself. It was a slaughter for the good and foolish.
Losing his parents forced him to grow up fast, and he ended up shunning the worshipers of the more good-aligned deities. All-the-same, he didn't hate them for what they stood for, he merely hated that for their cause, his parents had lost their lives. Senseless death was stupid death, and when the abyss can repopulate itself on the very souls that it reaps, the idea of fighting seems all the more senseless.
Truly, at such a young age Maxwell as gripped with a deep, dreadful sense of despair. He saw the world in gray and white, and found that he had lost hope. That same day, and not 4 months after his parents deaths, a powerful demon nearly broke the barrier to Kenabres, piercing his shoulder in the process with it's foul weapon. The sickness that it carried nearly claimed him. As he leaned against the hay cart he had been filling so recently, with his eyes closing slowly, he was happy for only a moment believing that death would allow him to meet his family.
But death did not come. Nor would it ever.
In his coma he saw the boneyard, the hundreds upon thousands of souls spiraling into it with a frenzy unlike anything he'd ever seen. Tormented souls, souls that wanted to do more, souls that were angry that they'd been put to rest. Vengeful spirits, every last one of them. People that died didn't want to enjoy their deaths, they wanted out. Death was a prison, not a release, he thought to himself. The world went black, and in the calamitous stars of the void that he found himself in, he saw, laying on a gray bit of sand along a strange island in the darkness and madness, a symbol.
The symbol was that of the religion that belonged to Iomedae. Beneath the sand next to it, Gorum. He sifted through the sand as it turned to dirt, and the dirt as it turned to mud, and the mud as it turned to stone, unearthing these symbols, and casting the dirt away. It felt as if it had taken weeks, but finally, at the bottom of it, he found a material he couldn't remove. His fingers were filthy with mud, and fingernails had abandoned him to let loose the flow of blood from his hands, aching in pain, yet still he persevered.
With a surge, the strange orb in the dark sky of loneliness, madness and silent solitude cast him off of it, along with the stone, mud, dirt, and sand. As he fell away, not the floor but to the dark tendrils of the abyss, he saw it turn to face him. A moon, bedecked in a skull's grimmace that cried black tears that filled this place. This damned place, did it fill to the brim, and this damned place he had been for so long. The desire to die had left him, but so had the desire to live, and in that symbol, he heard, in the darkness, the name, "Groetus"
He awoke from a coma, his left eye had been removed and replaced with bandages of strange make. Again, he looked about as the alchemists, the clerics, all of whom had kept watch on him scuttled about. One noticed him and left him be, only to return with a queer look in his eye. He saw his mouth move, but no words came, yet again. He had been deafened to good intention, and he had come to the conclusion that this whole thing, this town, these walls, the crusades.
All of it was meangingless.
Skip forward 24 more years, at the ripe age of 31. He had found love not long ago, in his den of hopelessness. A woman named Calistria, who saw the good in everything, even him, who was always eager to point out flaws in anything, especially himself. He had taken up the vestments of Groetus, the God of Misery and Madness, praying that the power that was take interest in him every day since he recovered from his Coma.
Little did he know that Groetus, whom never takes interest in his worshipers, should never gaze upon the lives of those he has influenced more than once...
Somehow a demon had made it through the walls, whether beneath the city, with immunity to it, whatever, it had made it. His house burned to the ground, his dead childs reduced to ashes that he could only watch burn as his son screamed in agony, claimed by the unholy fire. The man watched his son's soul erode at the edge of the abyss, claimed, to create another soldier for the world wound. His wife faired no better, impaled by the same ilk of fiend that claimed his father and mother, a schir. The woman lay impaled, and he, beneath the ruins of his own home, his hand impaled by a beam of wood and his hip, too.
Upon the glaive did that demon take away his wife, back to the wound to defile her corpse or worse, but in that moment, even as the guards arrived, he heard silence. The fires didn't burn, and the wound didn't hurt. All he felt was anguish as he removed the woodbeam from his stomach and hand, standing up and walking toward it, badly burned all over his left side. The guards, they motioned for him. He could feel them yelling as he walked slowly in the direction the fiend had went, and had one of them not tackled him to the ground and knocked him unconscious he would have followed them to the very pits of the abyss.
He awoke again, this time silent. With tears in his eyes he prayed to the god of misery, not for power, but to not look at him ever again and only grant him the power he'd need to die, as his wife and child, mother, and father had.
And so he did, but not before planting the seeds of madness... And so, Maxwell peered into the abyss of his life, and future.
And it peered back.
Maxwell is officially out of gold, and happens to be flat broke as he prepares to join the fifth crusade. He spent all of his savings from his lifetime, a measily 100 gold on 2 potions. 1 of cure light wounds, and 1 of mage armor, and he's honestly even sure they actually work.
He stands at a modest 5'6 with someone thin, yet wholesome brown hair that's matted from lack of washing. He wears a somewhat dirty blue and yellow vestment over his scale armor, but he makes it a point to wear his metal greaves and rusted gauntlets as he holds his Heavy flail off to his hip which has 3 smaller metal balls on it, rather than 1 large one.
Seeming to always have a look of disdain, the man rarely smiles, and when he does, it's usually after someone's been mocked, or if he himself just wants to display his level of apathy towards a situation.
Maxwell is a depressed individual who sees no point whatsoever, short of dying with dignity and killing demons, in the crusades. To him, they are a waste of time and effort, and if he didn't have a vendetta against the fiends that pushed him to near-insanity, he would have washed his hands of the place.
He is quick to point out flaws in others, himself, plans. If it has even a slight chance of failure, he makes sure that everyone knows it. Despite this, he is still reliable, but rarely takes into consideration his own well-being. Not bound by the religious doctrine of a paladin, Maxwell takes no joy in killing demons, fiends, or undead, rather they do nothing more than stir dark thoughts in him.
To say that Maxwell has righteous fury is an understatement. It is not righteous in the least, and is nothing more than pure hatred for the fact that the demons took everything from him. His eye, his child, his wife, and his parents, and even a few of his friends, and now, even his money.
Maxwell joins the fifth crusade with just the mere hope that he dies killing what he hates the most, and doesn't fear death as it is no worse than actually being alive.
While it isn't his in-character intention, Maxwell can still become good. His hatred could turn into righteous fury, but he will never turn his face away from Groteus, his deity, despite the things the god had done to him. He could be redeemed, becoming Chaotic good in a way to where he believes that no one should experience the misery that he has, and avidly preventing anyone from doing so.
At the beginning, however, he typically finds relief in the fact that others can feel pain as deep as he has, but at the same time doesn't believe anyone in the entire city is as deep in the darkness as he is, though he does welcome them to join him.
Maxwell would never harm a child, and anything seemingly worse than that is beyond him. While he is a pessimist, and does enjoy seeing others suffer, he doesn't actively attempt to make anyone do so, and actively does what he can to prevent it.
