War for the Crown Player's Guide

Taldor was once a vibrant and vigorous Empire that dominated the Inner Sea region, but no more; For six thousand years Taldor has withered to become a place of stagnation, where tradition trumps innovation, and where decadence has replaced drive. On the eve of a historic senatorial vote to overturn the rule of primogeniture, or not, and allow the progressive Princess Eutropia to become heir to the throne, the very Empire's future seems to hang in the balance...

AP Background:
Crownfall wrote:

This year’s Grand Day of Exaltation is poised to mark a historic shift in the governance of the empire. Princess Eutropia, daughter of Grand Prince Stavian III, has forged a powerful coalition of noble bastard children, reformers, and—perhaps, most importantly—senators to vote down the ancient law of primogeniture. The law states that royal power can pass only to a male heir — a succession that cannot be enacted due to Eutropia’s status as the current Grand Prince’s sole heir.

Rumors have circulated about the princess’s quest to strike down
primogeniture for years, and the nation remains divided on the vote, with several nobles viewing it as a shameless power grab by Princess Eutropia. Others see Eutropia as a stabilizing force that could unify the empire and usher in a new golden age for Taldor.

Princess Eutropia is the firstborn child of Grand Prince Stavian III. She stepped forth into the political arena only following the death of her younger brother 20 years ago. Prince Carrius II, like Eutropia, was beloved by the people of Taldor, and many hoped the boy would succeed his ineffective father and usher in an era of change. When the prince died in what was reported as a riding accident, Eutropia’s grief uncovered a deep well of empathy. More understanding of death and suffering, she became a crusader for the poor and for the basic rights of every Taldan citizen. As her work repeatedly ran up against the old-fashioned values of Taldor, Eutropia became a crusader for women’s rights as well.

What to Expect:
Crownfall wrote:

Welcome to the War for the Crown Adventure Path, where the safety of the world, or even just a single nation, isn’t necessarily at stake. Instead, the PCs will help shape history and determine the political course for Taldor, one of Avistan’s oldest modern nations. Slowly suffocating under the weight of its own past glories and blind adherence to tradition, Taldor has ignored its internal problems for far too long. Crumbling infrastructure, a stagnant bureaucracy, and a ruling class steeped in the racism and sexism much of Golarion began discarding long ago—these all weigh down what was once perhaps the most ambitious, innovative, and tenacious nation of the Inner Sea. And now our heroes have a chance to change the course of that nation.

The PCs are the agents of change, battling the status quo. If they fail, no dark overlord arises—just another grand prince who pushes the same agenda of clinging to relevance. And maybe war. But war has hardly been the end of Taldor in the past.

War for the Crown assumes that the PCs want to see Taldor improve, not merely endure, and that they’re the sort of nontraditional thinkers who can love their past while acknowledging the ugly warts. Since her first introduction in the Pathfinder Chronicles Campaign Setting a decade ago, Princess Eutropia has been the figure poised to reform Taldor and bring it into the modern world—a symbol the PCs support in their own quests to help their homeland.

I will be running the War for the Crown Adventure Path, and I am looking for 5 more players with 1st level characters to join us. Based on an agreement with another GM, the 6th seat is already filled, by a character yet to be determined.

Characters must meet the assumption of the AP, which broadly is to support the revitalization of Taldor, and specifically support Princess Eutropia - or at least have no objection to doing so when it comes up.

Rules:

-Post once per day, or give instructions for botting your character if you require an extended absence.

-Bold your speech.

-Italicise your thoughts.

-Try to put as little OOC commentary as possibly in the gameplay thread - and ensure it is in OOC tags when you must.

-High is good for all percentile rolls.

-If you have immediate action interrupts you must give me a brief summary of when you will use them. This is to discourage them being used or not used depending on the roll. Swashbucker's Parry and Riposte, or Charmed Life being good examples.

-Don't be a jerk.

Character Creation Guidelines:

-Select your ability scores using a 20 point buy, with maximum hit points at first level.

-Choose your race from among the following: changeling, dwarf, elf, gnome, half-elf, halfling, half-orc, human.

-Choose your class, equipment, feats, skills, any archetypes, etc. from any Paizo source, using the optional Background Skills system (for 2 extra select skill ranks per level), and with maximum gold for your class to start.

-Choose 1 campaign trait and 1 other traits (following the standard rule of no more than 1 from a single category). You have the option of taking 1 additional trait if you choose a drawback, but the traits and drawbacks should all be closely tied in to your character's backstory. War for the Crown Player's Guide

-Provide a written backstory in your own preferred format. I want a feel for your character, and for them to be specifically and distinctly Taldoran. As mentioned above they also needs to conform to the assumptions of the AP, which are to want to improve Taldor, and support progressive ideals - like women being able to do stuff that does not in some way involve flowers.

What to Expect of your GM:

I will use Google slides to handle maps, post NPC pics, and tally loot.

I will try to post multiple times a day, and will do all within my power to finish each part of the AP. But life being what it is and circumstances changes I will take a brief period to access before starting each part of the AP - though I certainly hope to finish it.

I try to stay as close to the rules as possible, but encourage you to correct me if I am wrong - which I frequently am :)

I will make many rolls for the players in the interests of keeping the games pace as brisk as it can be for PBP. For example, initiative, perception, and saves will be rolled by me. Knowledges will generally be in spoilers with the listed DCs so you may check if you meet the roll.

Please ensure you read the War for the Crown Player's Guide!

Recruitment will continue for 1-2 weeks, and I will give at least 2 days notice before bringing it to a close.

Dot!

Dotting. I have a vigilante for this.

A dot, most definitely.

Oster Catus, available and ready for service. He is loyal to his patron and his team.

Decimus Observet

Would human-like ifrit be possible? If not, I can adjust Oster.

P.S. I have run part of the first book in WftC in a f2f game. I am quite good at separating OOC and IC knowledge, but I thought I'd best be upfront about it.

@Oster Catus is that an ongoing game? And I am afraid not for Ifrit, only listed races, I am normally a bit freer with races, but I think them inappropriate here.

It is, however the sessions will be spaced out with a month or two in between. The next session might see us onto book two.

Fair enough. I can rework Oster as another race if you think the basic concept is fine.

I would love to join! I have already heard a lot and think the story is very exciting! I would create a character and background for you to review until Tuesday if that is ok! :-)

I am very interested and would like to submit

Although Panos starts as a fighter he is definitely angling towards the wizard class (eventually becoming a Pathfinder Savant or Eldritch Knight)
Background:

The Berylium family is not well known among the Oppara elite. Their lands are deep within almost impassable mountains and they rarely if ever come to court. But this isolation has made the little fiefdom very self sufficient, and it has a strong mining and crafting economy. They just have very little opportunity to compete with the surrounding areas due to the difficulty of transporting goods. Panos has always shown incredible aptitude in at least the theoretical areas of magic. So he has come to Oppara for several reasons. Most importantly, on behalf of his father Gerald and his family to remind the Senate of their existence, and to try a broker a deal to improve the road leading to his ancestral home. He is a great believer in the ability of the Taldan system of government to move beyond petty politics and make life for its citizens (particularly the ones back home) better. The roads of Taldan used to be the one of the wonders of the world, but they have become neglected and abandoned. His views have drawn him to the attention of Lady Martella Lotheed. His second reason for coming to Oppara is to complete his magical education. His spellbook is almost completed and soon he hopes to be recognized as a wizard. (There are wizards back home, and he did study with them, but he wants the prestige associated with completing a wizard's school in the capital)

@Oster Catus I am afraid being in an ongoing game that is going to be constantly ahead of us, even if only once a month or two is a no go. I don't mind taking people who have been in cancelled games, but I do not want a player knowing what is going on through the entire AP ahead of time - plus it seems fairer to give a slot to someone who is not already getting to play. My apologies and thank you for letting me know.

@GM Nowruz recruitment will be running for at least a week, so that will be more than soon enough :)

@Kertuffle looks great so far, ideally I would like to read about his personality and appearance to get more of a feel for the character.

@GM: That's understandable and I don't hold that against you. I hope the campaign goes smoothly for you, I thoroughly enjoyed running the first chunk of book one.

@Appreciate it Oster Catus, best of luck with your RL game, and hope to play with you in the future, you seem like a classy personage :)

* Alignment restrictions?
* Young Characters?
* Age Categories: Core (ability scores adjustments) or PFS like (pretty much cosmetic)?
* HP after first level?
* Guessing no to templates and 3pp stuff?

@Souls at War, no alignment restrictions, but yopu will need to convince me that your character meets the APs assumptions, and will not be problematic in a party. In practice this probably rules out CE, CN, and probably true neutral, but I am open to being convinced.

No young character, and age ranges are cosmetic.

HP after first levels will be high average, by which I mean 4 for d6, 5 for d8, etc.

You are correct no templates and no third party stuff.

Grand Lodge

I'd like to present Edena Storm, Robin Hood- esque thief who too hopes to rid herself of the frivolous expectations placed upon her by her father and prove she can actually do stuff more than cook and clean. Story is in the background, but I'll post it here as well.

Backstory:
Once, a long time ago, a young lady by the name of Lyanna Rhaeke met the Earl- in- waiting Bryjan Florent, and their meeting kicked off a storm of courtship that had the young Bryjan ready for marriage; until the day Lyanna disappeared, and news that Lyanna Rhaeke was not a noble, nor ever had been, came. This devastated the young Bryjan, and hurt his reputation invariably. What was worse came next.

As a babe, Edena was left on the doorstep of the Florent family doorstep, a relatively minor noble family on the outskirts of the Verduran Forest. Fortunately for the young Edena, she had more than a passing resemblance to the head of the family, Bryjan Florent. Unfortunately for the head of the family, she looked exactly like him, and he was forced to admit to a certain impropriety almost a year earlier, with the mysterious commoner claiming to be Lyanna Rhaeke. Bryjan, despite his wish for the affair to be covered up, also had sympathy for the child, and she was adopted into the family as a bastard, and given all the treatments as such.

Despite being a bastard, Edena was raised with he rest of the Florent children, not as an outsider, and as such received the benefits a child of a minor noble received; education, toys, and the like. Gifted in both intelligence and beauty, Edena soon was brought into the church of Shelyn, where she was further instructed in all manner of things; makeup, etiquette, arts, and sewing- all of the things a young lady would one day need to know.

However, despite the gifts she was given, there remained a certain expectation- that one day, she would marry and produce children. Edena felt strongly that she could do things more than cook or clean up after babies, and this led to some less than wise decisions. First she fell into a group of young shadows, calling themselves the Brotherhood of Silence. There, she learned all about thievery, and how to steal from both the poor, and the rich, in order to benefit a cause (usually the Brotherhood's pockets, but Edena was more concerned with the potential of what could be than what was. Then, when she used her skills to sneak around the castle, she was surprised to find an old glaive amongst the things her father kept of her mother, she came to them for instruction in it's use; they did, and when the item was discovered missing, and Edena in possession of it, her father reluctantly agreed to let her keep it, though her would try several times to convince her to put it down.

This continued until her 17th birthday, when one night, she was suddenly told that her skills had caught the eye of someone high- up in the Brotherhood, and she was being transferred to Oppara. The next morning, her father woke her up, with excited, excellent news for her. She was to travel to Oppara, to perform in one of the city's major theaters, as a ballet dancer. He thought it was an excellent way to both raise his standing in Taldor's circles, and for Edena to find a husband she never would have been able to otherwise. Immediately, she was given clothes to travel, and on her way she was sent.

Upon her arrival in the theater, near the Crownsgate District, she was prepared to meet her benefactor, Chance Diamonds, but he never showed. Instead, from asking around, she was only told that Diamonds rarely ever met with anyone in person, and almost no one was able to identify him on sight. So, she was set up with a small room she shares with several other dancers, and by day, she dances; by night, she does as the Brotherhood instructs.

Since her arrival in Oppara, young and idealistic Edena has come to use her skills to help benefit the Princess Eutropia in her works with the poor and human rights, routinely using her thieving abilities with minor nobles and rich merchants who came to the shows to rob them and return the funds to her charities. Edena sees her as the champion of her own struggles; being a dancer on her own doesn't exactly lend itself to wealth in Oppara, and defying her father's expectations of her seems similar to Eutropia's problems with primogeniture. Besides, she actually met the Princess, once, long ago, when she was a little girl; and the princess was kind to her, so that had to have mattered, right?

Personality:
Edena's a pretty willful child, and she'll do what she thinks is right, regardless. However, she's not one who eagerly seeks confrontation, hence her chosen method of solving problems; diplomacy, and thieving. Despite being from the nobility, she has no problem stealing from them; things should be more fair and equally distributed! Besides, she worked hard to steal that item/money/etc, so she's entitled to do with it as she pleases, right?

She tends towards eagerness, and excitement, well- versed in all manners of etiquette and social interactions; she'll almost more comfortable in a courtroom as she is in a dark street alley (or, perhaps more so). Her main motivations are helping young girls think of themselves as capable of anything, and helping them (and any child, really) achieve their dreams.

She does have a soft spot for anything to do with her mother or the mysterious Lyanna Rhaeke; as such, her most valuable possession, her mother's glaive, the one thing she refused to let her father tell her she couldn't do.

Think that's everything- if I'm missing something, let me know!

So......I've got a bit of an unorthodox idea, but I feel like it could work well. Short version is basically Disgraced Noble campaign trait, where the character's father was exiled and she went with him to Cheliax. While there she becomes a disciple of the Whore Queens (Eiseth in particular); she returns to Taldor swearing vengeance on Pythareus - and there's no better way to do so than helping Eutropia lead the nation to a new order. Whether she becomes the princess's right-hand woman or fades into the footnotes of history isn't important, as long as Pythareus suffers for his misdeeds. Mechanically a LE inquisitor of Eiseth, with Urban Infiltrator archetype to hide the evil.

If that doesn't sound good (no pun intended!) to you I can think up something a bit more normally heroic.

You have a point for CE, but CG, CN and N will fit well, if they aren't used as excuse for doing dumb stuff... Lawful will have some shackles as well.

@Edena Storm, background looks great. Can I ask how you are getting Weapon Finesse to work with a glaive? I am not familiar with the unchained rogue so not sure if I am missing an ability from there or elsewhere? Also you seem to have an additional trait and I cannot seem to find a Attached Glaive.

@Souls at War, that has not been my experience of CN, it seems to be a code for behaving like a complete arse, but as I say open to being persuaded, maybe place a bit more emphasis on explaining personality, etc. Should you choose to go for an unusual alignment. True neutral is a pretty weird alignment if you read the description, I am sure I have never met anyone who qualifies in real life.

Silver Crusade

gonna make a wizard, a noble of house Lotheed.

Cheers!

On alignments, I found several guides linked here quite illuminating, including some for true neutral.

Panos Berylium's Appearance:

Panos is a dark haired human Taldan youth in his late teens. Even a casual observer can note that he has a noble bearing. Those who look closer will notice that even though he is well dressed, his hands do show a hint of work. He has obviously not been coddled. His clothes reflect the latest courtly trends, displaying a silver and black theme. He wears his family's signet ring (A variation on the Ouroboros symbol) along with tasteful but expensive jewelry. He wears a rapier when appropriate, and wore a breastplate while travelling but doesn't wear it to court. He shaves daily and keeps his hair short.

Panos' Personality:

Panos deeply wants to be a wizard. His entire youth was spent asking the question 'Why?'. He never really shirked his familial duties, but everyone knows where his heart lies. The Berylium family is a mercantile family, so Panos knows how to keep financial records. He is also the third son, so eventually his father gave in to the inevitable and arranged for some magical training. He looks upon his whole travel to Oppara as an 'adventure', but has found that his father has vastly underestimated how much influence costs in the capital. His expense funds have just about run out and he is beginning to get desperate. To be fair to his father, Gerald really has not approved the extent to which Panos is pursuing his families political ends. Gerald just told his son, if he could talk to some senators about the roads while finishing his education that would be great. Panos is just a teenager after all. But that is one thing about Panos, he does nothing by halves, so now he is at the cusp of running out of money, but has at least acquired an invitation to the political party of the year.
Generally he is easy going, willing to trust people until shown otherwise. He has no tolerance for stupidity and is attentive about any slights, responding with a withering tongue.

Silver Crusade

Are fire-arms OK? I was thinking about possibly using one.

scratch that, I think I'm going to go with a magus. As the more I think about him, the more it fits I think.

@rorek55 firearms are fine, in case anyone else is wondering or you change your mind :)

@Kertuffle looks great :)

Not Edena nor her puppetmaster, but here's what I think is going on:

Un-rogue gets Weapon Finesse for free at 1st, and can also add dex to damage with a single weapon starting at 3rd. The feat Bladed Brush will let her use finesse with a glaive at 3rd level. Does seem like an error to have a single-weapon Weapon Finesse at 1st on a weapon that doesn't even qualify, though. Otherwise, Attached is a drawback, which was traded for the third trait.

Here is Elizabeth Ardoc, runaway daughter from Kaer Maga who wants a new life to develop her abilities. Getting involved in politics might give her that chance, or a knife in the ribs.

Silver Crusade

scratch everything. I'm going to play a sorcerer (arcane bloodline), of the Lotheed family. Young, fiery, and ready to prove that his magic, while possibly a boon from his family lineage, is his, and just as potent as a learned wizard's.

I can see your point, still, the Lawful will have a lot of trouble getting anything done later on.

Plus a ban on too many alignments will affect class choices as well.

Grand Lodge

Well, @theasl got to it before I did, but I'm glad someone else followed my logic (or lack thereof). I was pretty intent on Bladed Brush at 3rd level, and it just never occurred to me that I couldn't take Weapon Finesse: Glaive without Bladed Brush, until someone else said it (don't ask, my brain does weird things). That being said, I don't see why I couldn't take the feat at 1st, just wouldn't be able to use it till 3rd- it just says I can use Weapon Finesse with a glaive, not allows me to take Weapon Finesse with a glaive; though that's probably just me trying to justify a concept already drawn up in my head. I'll rework it if that's not acceptable.

And yes, the Attached is a drawback that seemed thematically appropriate, though may be taken away if I can't use a glaive, sadly.

Unless I miss something, wouldn't Bladed Brush require at least two Feats, one of which can't be taken by a Rogue at first level.

Grand Lodge

And......Edena's back to the drawing table. If you see chalk dust, don't worry, it's under control.

I blame this error on Shelyn for having a favored weapon mostly unusuable by rogues until 11th level.

@theasl, thanks, most helpful :) @Edena Storm would suggest taking Weapon Finesse, which by my read you do not take for a specific weapon, you have it you can finesse anything finessable and Weapon Focus Glaive at 1st then Bladed Brush at 3rd. That means 2 levels of using another finessable weapon which is not too bad. Maybe flavour it as trying to get the tricks she was taught by other followers of Shelyn down. Being a worshipper of Shelyn is a really irritating requirement for Bladed Brush BTW. Is it supposed to be magic a fighter who secretly watches their training can't pick it up? *grumbles*

Attached should be fine I was just looking under traits.

Weapon Focus can't be taken at first level without house-rules, and Rogue aren't Proficient with Glaive.

Grand Lodge

@GM- That was the plan, until it was nicely pointed out that U- Rogues don't meet the requirements for Weapon Focus at 1st level- meh. Though I do appreciate the suggestion!

Maybe Combat Trick as my 2nd level Rogue talent.....

@Souls at War, good points, it does need to work within the rules and it is a pretty powerful ability. It does seem difficult to get it on track early, could you take Weapon Focus as a rogue talent at 2nd, but you still need a way to get proficiency glaive rather than specific glaive... I think there is an ioun stone that grants proficiency? Not ideal... Hmmm.

Martial Weapon Proficiency can be taken at first level.

The Rogue archetype Swashbuckler gives proficiency in 1 martial weapon at first level in place of trapfinding. I'm not sure how that interfaces with all the unchained rogue stuff though.

Question, GM: I notice you're looking for characters who are " specifically and distinctly Taldoran." I was thinking of a young Ulfen, come south with hopes of winning a place in the Ulfen guard. Could that work? I was also thinking True Neutral or CN, mostly a somewhat mercenary "Look, I ain’t in this for your revolution. I’m not in it for you Princess. I expect to be well paid. I’m in it for the money" character. At least at first. I can see him maybe being LN if he has to. Is that general concept something that could work here?

Grand Lodge

@Souls of War- that's where I am now. Currently debating the merits of focusing so much on the glaive on what was intended to be a non- martial character, or just scrapping the glaive altogether. I took the glaive because I really wanted Edena to be a follower of Shelyn; but I'm thinking maybe Shelyn is just going to have to learn to love the Shortsword.

Portia Russus: Background:
Russus. A name with much history in Taldor...and now one that can barely be heard in Oppara, and only in hushed whispers. Father had made the mistake of challenging the old goat, Pythareus, making accusations that were only levelled straight back at him. He was a bold man, but one of integrity, and he made his choice. He would leave the city, the country, his country, and live out the rest of his few years elsewhere. I followed him to Cheliax, to Corentyn, which the Russus had helped found millenia before. There, he fell into a deep depression and soon passed, and on his deathbed I promised him that I would return and restore his legacy in the nation he loved so much. Pythareus, in a belated act of mercy, allowed his remains to be buried in the ancestral graveyard in Oppara. Would that I was as principled as Father. Pythareus will not get any mercy when his time comes.

Unlike Father, though, my own time in Cheliax was far from wasted. I had a purpose - revenge - but no plan, no means, no endgame...until I blindly stumbled upon the truth. The diabolism of the Chelaxians, once disdained by everyone I knew, will now lead to our salvation. Yet, for all of Hell's misogyny, there is a true path forward, illustrated so clearly by the Angels of Vengeance and Her Infernal Majestrix Abrogail herself: to transform Taldor from a nation dominated by old, decrepit men to one led - nay, dominated - by women. It has been known for years that Princess Eutropia is the only real heir to the throne of Taldor, but still the men resist. She must be allowed to take the throne. Only then will the rightful be granted true power. Only then can Taldor be saved from the grasp of evil like Pythareus.

It is now time to channel the power of the Angels. By the focus of Our Lady of Pain, the guile of The End of Innocence, and most of all, the righteous fury of The Erinyes Queen, I will have my revenge. I will not rest until Eutropia is Empress of Taldor - whether or not I end up at her side. I will not rest until the Russus name is cleared - whether or not I am recorded as our savior. I will not rest until Pythareus is locked up forever as the ultimate traitor, condemned in the history books and reviled by the common man - whether or not I am remembered as the one who exposed him. He deserves nothing better than Father. He deserves much worse. I have returned, and Pythareus will fall.

So, this was pretty fun to write. It's an antihero-type idea that I rather like - the person who's doing all the right things for all the wrong reasons. Rather similar (though on the other end of the law-chaos spectrum) to the lower-side-of-CN succu-tiefling that I'm playing in a Wrath of the Righteous campaign on here too, though that AP seems a lot more fighty and less talky so there's less chance to show it. That said, this will likely end up being mostly internal monologue for a while, with Portia pretending to be, you know, a kind, goodly person like everyone else.

I haven't done mechanics yet; all I know is LE infiltrator inquisitor of Eiseth with the Law domain (not urban infiltrator as I said earlier, that was a mistake), probably end up ranged-focused.

need to finish up a few bits and write up his background, but I wanted to go ahead and let you see what I'm looking at. Finneas is a grome prankster bard. I was thinking of a backstory where he's friends with Princess Eutropia from her childhood (he being sort of a court jester kind of character, like Yorick to Hamlet) but wanted to make sure that was cool for the storyline

Dotting

Grand Lodge

So, after much deliberation, I've decided to go ahead and move Edena's weapon of choice (and her mother's gift) from glaive to shortsword. In essence, everything's the same, where you see glaive hear shortsword. She took Agile Maneuvers as her 1st lvl feat, instead of the one I couldn't take. Otherwise, she should be ready to go!

@Ouachitonian, I am reluctant to say no, but in all honesty you would need to write a very convincing background and my initial instinct is not keen on such a character. I would try and give a fair shout, but I don't really want characters I need to coax along to actually participate in the AP, and wanting to be part of the Ulfen Guard probably isn't enough of a connection to Taldor. Maybe if you had a family history, etc., Taldan mother maybe, a lot of Ulfen Guards apparently retire to Ullerskad in the Thanelands.

But they are not looking for mercenaries, they are looking for patriots, after all why should they trust you to be involved in sensitive plans if you are out for the money? If you can answer all those worries and convince me your character will play well enough in a party then go for it, but it might be a bit of an uphill struggle.

@theasl, I like it, reads very well :) I would like to know a little more about her life education, other family if any. Pythareus seems to work nicely as an enemy, though I stress as yet I have only read the first part of the AP and blurbs for the rest, it does not seem likely to be problematic.

@Finneas Entwhistle, the only set character just let me know yesterday he is going to be running a human jester bard with a similar setup. Normally my attitude is I do not care about party composition, but since he already has a slot, and I am a little worried about jesters for the tone of the AP I would suggest changing up, as I would probably not want two jesters.

@Edena Storm, should be good to go then :)

Background:
Quintius is the bastard son of a man from a minor Taldan house (House Morilla if that doesn't mess with the AP story) and a barwench. Born especially comely and athletic, the house even "allowed" his mother to serve the house while he was groomed as a friend (and one day servant) to the man's actual children. He saw how his mother and other commoners were treated while he was pampered, but she begged him not to cause a problem. She was still begging him when she died. She had never known that celestial blood ran through her veins, nor does Quintius to this day, thinking his gifts just good luck.
With her gone, Quintius was treated even more like part of the family. His charm and skill grew with each passing year.

So did his hatred. He practiced spying on his so-called family, stealing and smuggling minor household items. He studied the noble houses of Taldan in particular. They weren't all outright monsters, but plenty were. He kept mental notes on which houses and which nobles deserved retribution most.

As the AP begins, he wonders why he's been invited by Lady Martella Lotheed to this event. Famous house, hard to get good information on, but something about them smelled. Still, the invitation required looking into. Either they were aware of his activities and plans and wanted to help him or blackmail him OR they had no idea and this could be an opportunity to get to a place where his true plans can finally begin.

Appearance and Personality:

Quintius presents as a handsome--lovely, perhaps--human man of his own age. His hair is a light brown with deeper brown accents. Steely blue eyes express the emotions he wishes them to express. He can charm most folks with his easy-going, light-hearted manner, but this is all a ruse. Inside he is calculating and a keen observer of human nature. The nobles like his father will all pay one day, and the corruption of Taldor cleansed.

Quintius is a velvet blade, a seemingly loyal bastard of a noble lord raised to be the vicious consigliere the lord's "real children" could never be deigned to be. In truth, he wants to turn his training and connections against corruption and abusive nobles.
