Maria, how's becoming a wizard going?

DM TreasureFox |

I'd like it to be quick and simple so we can get Wabbit and Brelin into the game as fast as humanly (or halflingly) possible. If that means making summary posts on the discussion tab, I think that's the best choice. I like roleplay very much, but the amount of time it takes to play out a single scene (if not several) is too much for two of our company to wait.
Maria, if you want to take wizard levels, I highly recommend you seek out Mr. Gandethus. Not only will it give a bit more reason to your wizarding abilities, but I think you will be pleasantly surprised once you get to know him.
Just a reminder. I'm hitting you guys with the new adventure on day 7. Your ability to do side missions, craft, research, etc will diminish at that time.
Helgarr, Gandethus can enchant weapons and armor to +1. It's 2000gp for a masterwork piece, 2300gp for a non-masterwork weapon, or 2150gp for a non-masterwork armor/shield. If you want to take enchantments from one weapon/armor/shield and want to place them on another, it costs 500gp and requires 1 day of work.
Cleo, is Aggah your new goblin companion?
Day 1 of 6:
- Helgarr is shopping
- Maria is resting
- Orik is resting
- Cleo is identifying magical loot
Day 2 of 6:
- Maria is resting
- Orik is resting
- Cleo is shopping
Day 3 of 6:
- Maria is resting
- Cleo is researching
Day 4 of 6:
- New stock available in all shops

![]() |

I'm running slow on my wizarding, been a draining few days. Fox, are you suggesting I stick with the rogue level and do wizard next time, or just seek him out for added stuff?
Tiny silver tiara Appraise: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
2 silver symbols of a 3 eyed jackal Appraise: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
A beautifully crafted elven flute Appraise: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Bag of gold dust,Appraise: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
bag of silver dustAppraise: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9

DM TreasureFox |

Either, or. I'm a fan of having in-game reasons for things like multi-classing, languages, etc, but I don't impose that upon my players.
You could also say that Vandra was teaching you a thing or two, but now you're missing a mentor.
Note: These are the sell prices
Tiny Silver Tiara - 50gp (collector)
2 Silver Unholy Symbols of Lamashtu - 5gp each (Church) or 12gp each (Feathered Serpent)
Masterwork Elven Flute - 27gp (collector)
Bag of Gold Dust - 40gp (bottled solutions, I really like that shop name)
Bag of Silver Dust - 4gp (bottled solutions)

Helgarr |

For now party loot is for me, you and Cleo. I'm assuming Brelin and Wabbit are coming in at appropriate WBL.

Helgarr |

Fox, I think this post (the part about Orik) never got an answer - it should be happening on day 3, so the schedule above can be updated with that?
Additionally, I am looking into crafting with Savah during day 2 (and maybe turn a normal weapon from normal into MW) - will have to check costs first, and update on my next post ;)
I think the loot math is finished apart from:
- (unidentified) A floating orb that uses vocal command words to create unknown spell effects
- (not translated) Two random books written in Thassilonian
- (unidentified, non-magical) Vial of strange liquid
- (unidentified, non-magical) 2 vials of clear liquid
which I have the feeling we may want to keep. In any case Helgarr will take the items with her when she went to gather the info about weapon enchantment above from Master Gandethus, and maybe try to id them then? Is that ok Fox?
So bottom line for Helgarr:
Day 1 - Buying and selling (still not fully decided), speaking with Gandethus for ID;
Day 2 - Working with Savah (still not fully decided)
Day 3 - Assisting Orik with getting a job (maybe it does not take a full day?)
Day 4 - Meeting at the inn? And checking out new stock in shops :D
---------------------------
Another thing that I believe is relevant is the fact that maybe for now, we should keep the flaming +1 sword and the +1 shortsword as mine and Maria's magical weapon. For a couple of reasons - it is more 'organic', and it is way less expensive.
If we do so, each one of us is entitled around 1734.5 gold (still need to figure ID costs), which allows for some additional interesting shopping maybe? What do you guys think?
---------------------------
Last but not least, I am waiting for Wabbit to answer me - hence I have not posted in Gameplay again yet ;)

Cleo Gingerberry |

the shortsword is small sized, unless Maria can use it as a dagger we should sell it. Cleo will memorize magic weapon before going after the big evil which will help.
Cleo's mainly a caster and she has the curing wand, so no problem giving up some of her money to get you both to magic armor/weapon or a ring of protection for Maria is a very good buy personally.
With a breastplate Cleo becomes a tank. Not as tanky as Wabbit though. We halfings can form a wall for all you big folk :)
And YES!! Treasure, I would very much like Aggah as my goblin companion. If that is still okay...
How do you want to run her? I'm figured you can still run her as an npc, since her personality and all things her are your creation. Now she just has a reason to remain with us. But if you'd rather me create another alias and treat her like Vandra's mother I can do that as well. Just let me know. Either way I need to record her stats somewhere.

![]() |

How do you want to run her?
Seriously, if that thing eats my dead body I will leave the game as a party member and just follow you around and haunt your tiny ass.

Cleo Gingerberry |

That thing is a precious member of our party! :)
I promise (if Cleo is still alive) to do everything in her persuasive power to keep you from being eaten.

![]() |

I am going to cover you in barbecue sauce.

Helgarr |

Crap, forgot about this :P

Next level Helgarr will be dipping fighter, but until then she isn't proficient in anything more than light armor (I'm starting to think I should have dipped right away...). Her AC is kinda paltry at the moment.
As far as Cleo tanking, I would refrain from that ;)
Fox, aren't we KINDA below WBL (using it just as a reference :P)?

Wabbit the Paladin of Chaldira |

I've assumed WBL for purchasing equip which is 6k for 4th lvl
Wabbits gear=
+1 waveblade 2k
serpentine tatoo 2k........ imp dirty trick 3/day immediate action
bag of holding minor 1k
pearl of power 1rst 1k .......for arcane caster to cast Mage Armor
If I need to modify anything please let me know

Cleo Gingerberry |

Wall of halflings Helgarr, I'm telling you, it's a thing of pure awesome!
Cleo will barkskin you to help out before the battle, and of course heal to the best of her ability. Help with your squishiness. :)
Cleo will buy the weapons she stated before and a small sized breastplate.
100 gold for breastplate (50% off)
17.5 gold for crossbow (50% off)
2 gold for bolts
2.5 gold for spear (50% off)
122 gold out of her share
Leaving 1612.5 that can be divided up to make you two more combat worthy.
Treasure, how much to donate to the orphanage to identify the remaining items. Cleo will spend her fourth day helping out at the orphanage as well.

See what I'm hearing here is you have bought absolutely no mundane equipment, rations, tent, bedroll, etc.

Cleo Gingerberry |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Lost in rampaging caravan bee attack?

Wabbit the Paladin of Chaldira |

lol...always forget the mundane stuff
scratch the minor bag of holding
replace that with:
Kit, Pathfinder’s
Price 12 gp; Weight 22 lbs.
This kit consists of a backpack, a bedroll, a belt pouch, a clay mug, a dagger, two fishhooks, a flint and steel, a sewing needle, a signal whistle, 50 feet of string, 50 feet of thread, a waterskin, a week’s worth of trail rations, and a whetstone. For Small creatures, the weight of a Pathfinder’s kit is 7-1/2 pounds. Leaving the bedroll and rations at camp or on a mount reduces the weight by 12 pounds for Medium creatures and by 3 pounds for Small creatures.
ioun torch 75gp
travels anytool 250gp
sleeves of many garments 200gp
=463gp leftover....enough for a lot of ALE

Cleo Gingerberry |

I will never ever ask... ever... :)

DM TreasureFox |

To be completely transparent, I absolutely thought we were above WPL in gear. I regularly increase the amount/quality of loot vs what the book suggests. That being said, yeah..., you guys could do with a bit more... stuff.
Once you guys have confirmed your sales and purchases, I will update the shops of Sandpoint.
Don't worry too much about carrying capacity, Wabbit. Just use a healthy dose of common sense so you don't turn into a 3ft tall walking armory.
You do indeed need magic to turn a regular weapon (or armor, or shield) into a masterwork one. Such a person would be Gandethus, the transmutation wizard specialist.
Donations are always up to the donor. For moving enchantments from one item to another, I would recommend something significant. Most wizards would charge several hundred gold pieces for that work. For identifying items, I would recommend roughly 10gp per item, as if it were a casting of Identify.
Aggah can be your goblin companion, just use the stats I provided earlier. She's a bit unique in that she needs weapons and armor to be effective. If you'd like to know, Aggah was originally trained with Intimidate, K.Religion, Perception, and Sense Motive. She also had weapon focus Falchion, and Power Attack. It's totally okay if you don't want her to have those feats or skills anymore. I will control her outside of combat, and you will control her during combat. We should write out her most common set of priorities and characteristics so we do not step on each others toes.
I have seen many strange things as a DM, but rolling naked in a salad bar is not one of them. Here are some of the more ridiculous ones that come to mind:
- The party stormed the home of an ashole noblemen with the help of a peasant rebellion, stole his most valuable assets, killed his guards, kidnapped him, and reported every detail to the reigning Countess. When she tried to have them arrested for petty treason, kidnapping, major theft, and raising a rebellion, they threatened to kill her and all her guards. It was not pretty.
- I was playing a drunken barbarian dwarf who was expected to give a speech about a recently deceased friend at a funeral. I rolled a 1, opened my mouth, belched, and fell into the grave unconscious.
- A player of mine was playing a lizardfolk barbarian. She found a crocodile in the river that she was swimming in. She tried to seduce the crocodile in order to ambush it and then later eat it. Against all odds, it worked.

Cleo Gingerberry |

Okay, so the feats Aggah had for simple and light armors were free? cool then. She'll have one more if I treat her like a normal companion with the extra stats you gave me. Falchion isn't a simple weapon though. I was thinking since she will have a lot fewer hit points than any of the rest of us, she should stay behind us and use the crossbow (she likes bows right?).

Wabbit the Paladin of Chaldira |

I will be out of town on family vacation from 12/22-26.
I will try to post, but it is by no means guaranteed. please bot me if necessary.
sorry, I know it's a bit inconvenient when this campaign is just ramping back up
happy holidays everyone

Cleo Gingerberry |

Merry Christmas or Holidays in general Wabbit and to everyone. I'm at my inlaws... which means I'll happily post as much as possible :)

Cleo Gingerberry |

You are a strange strange person, Treasure. It is against all the order of the universe to like your inlaws!!!
:)

Cleo Gingerberry |

Well as you can see, it can be good or bad. Treasure is not unique. I have met two other people in my life that liked theirs.
I do plan to be the horrible type of inlaws in case my kids ever decide to get married. Karma demands.

Cleo Gingerberry |

Wait, Treasure did you get married?

Cleo Gingerberry |

I think there is a special weapon property that allows for resizing automatically.
That explains why you still like your inlaws Treasure :)
Okay things left to do before getting into the meat of it. Helgarr and Maria, are you enchanting anything. Helgarr I think you said you'd keep the longsword. Maria, do you want to enchant? Cleo will buy the rind of protection +1, and give it to Maria (Helgarr you already have one right?)
Last thing is identifying the rest of the stuff.

Cleo Gingerberry |

(unidentified) A seven-pointed star medallion with a snapped cord
(unidentified) A floating orb that uses vocal command words to create unknown spell effects
(unidentify-able)Seven shards of a golden sphere-like Ioun stone, +1 on all Will saves (Helgarr)
30 go pieces for donations and a promise to help out as soon as she gets back (and lives)
leaving 1582.5 out of her share. Sorry she does not have enough to buy the ring of protection, but if you wish, she will give you what you need to buy it.
Oh, just reread Treasures post, "For moving enchantments from one item to another, I would recommend something significant. Most wizards would charge several hundred gold pieces for that work."
Move the tiny returning dagger+1 enchantment to your dagger. Would 1000 be good for that Treasure. If so, we can put your remainder from 1734.5 to with Cleo's to get you the ring of protection.
So 600 of yours, combined with 1400 of mine, leaving me with 182.5 and you 134.5.
Helgarr, you could use the longsword for the battle, and buy a shield to raise your AC. If we find more after the battle you can decide if you want to keep it or move the enchantments to your weapon.
Sound good?
The 1000 was a ball park, mainly cause it was two enchantments and I didn't find any rules yet. Feel free to edit, suggest, complain, or hit me with a book.
Happy day after boxing day!

Cleo Gingerberry |

Last thing tonight, promise. Are the below acceptable, Treasure? I kept her skills like you had them. At the moment I gave her improved initiative since she doesn't get martial weapons until 4rth level.

Aggah would not gain natural armor bonuses, and does not have natural attacks. You will be responsible for equipping her with the appropriate gear.

Cleo Gingerberry |

1734.5 gold is each of our shares.
Cost wise, Treasure had said.
"Helgarr, Gandethus can enchant weapons and armor to +1. It's 2000gp for a masterwork piece, 2300gp for a non-masterwork weapon, or 2150gp for a non-masterwork armor/shield. If you want to take enchantments from one weapon/armor/shield and want to place them on another, it costs 500gp and requires 1 day of work."
Oh I missed that last part. So it would only cost 500 to move +1 returning to the dogslicer. So if you want to go that route it is very affordable. Maria could have done that yesterday, before we leave.

Helgarr |

Sorry guys. Been completely in Christmas mode :)
Will try to get a final loot post up tomorrow, because the current division accounts for selling both the sword and returning dagger.
WoW Fox... Great idea with the 'enchantment swapping' option!! Kudos!!

![]() |

Does anybody want to take that longsword or know what that magic ability is, I'd kinda prefer that to returning and the returning is more expensive anyways so we could sell that for more money.

Cleo Gingerberry |

It gives you fire resistance and can explode into flame once a day. Pretty cool. You both need magic weapons... or I could cast magic weapon on you for the fight, if you wanted to wait.

![]() |

Depending on answer of Helgar, I'll wait. I'd rather magic goes to the heavy hitter with the better hit chance and returning is kind of meh. Damn. Was pretty sure there was something that mimiced magical weapons for a short bit that you could apply to your weapon like poison. Maybe that was 3.5 Hmm.
