No reason not to discuss tactics. In truth our characters haven't known each other long, so they're still figuring it all out.

Cleo's obvious benefit to battle is healing. Other than that her helpful trait allowing someone she aids in battle a +4 to hit, is what I'd probably be having her do. Aiding one of the fighters or our thief if she has the possibility to do sneak damage.

If those don't work then, she'll shoot away but never expect her to do enough damage to take something out.

Spellwise she'll continue to take things to buff you all or counter the bad things people will do to you.

Those are my current tactics for Cleo, though for her it is all blind panic-y instinct. If anyone ever has any other suggestions, I am happy to always hear them.

As for what to do about an evil little demon that has more damage resistance than Cleo can dish out, she is at a loss. Maria's idea has merit but Cleo doesn't have any idea of how to help with that. Unless Helgarr wants to throw her at the demon, hoping to catch it and pull it down. :)

Talking out tactics is a good idea. I do better in surprise rounds thanks to initiative bonus and damage bonus from Ambush Training.

Right now I don't really have much going for me, since I did do a bit of min-maxing without realizing it. That means that, unfortunately, during combat I'm not that capable until higher levels when I get more and better spells. As it is, I have a few buffs I can pulls for others but that's about it. Even then, I don't have much. For instance, right now I only have one 1st level spell left, and I'm even limited on 0 level spells I can cast per day. I'm just glad that I took the Eschew Materials feat at first level so I don't have to worry about that.

Even Jeaux is limited in combat, especially since, as a familiar, she's limited by my HP. If it wasn't for the Spirit Binder class features giving her the fighter BAB and Fort saves she'd be even worse. Outside of combat, she can't even speak, and is incapable of communication unless she writes or mimes.

Hey, GM, can we retcon Furnok to have his hammer equipped before the spell takes effect? Otherwise he's still wielding a medium-sized weapon and he takes a penalty for using an inappropriately sized weapon.

Sure thing, that's perfectly reasonable.

Pines for the fjords DM.

Bad guy's turn, or...?

Technically still your turns. Even though Ali has caught the Quasit, you still have some options. Such as using Aid Another to help Ali maintain the grapple, or give a bonus when he wants to pin, or prepare to attack if she manages to escape. I'm sure there are other options too.

I thought that moving to retrieve my weapon was my turn ;)

Not you, dear. I'm giving Cleo, Vandra, Maria, Jeaux, and Ali's Dog a chance to do anything. ;)

With successful Aid Anothers, Ali could get a total of +10 to his grapple check.

Huh right, hadn't considered those options. Though I'm not sure how I can help him maintain his grapple.

That's it, no Ali Snacks for you!

Also, you REALLY don't want Vandra trying to stab the thing while you're holding it.

Wouldn't that be Azeri Snacks?

Male Human Unchained Summoner / Level 3 / HP [30/11] / AC 16 / T 13 / FF 13 / Fort +2 / Ref +3 / Will +4 / Initiative +2 / Perception +1

Ali became Velma when he summoned the Dog but he is totally Boo-boo when Azeri is around. ;)

Hmm, So Ali, want an apprentice? Cause right now I'm looking through summmoner evolutions and I'm remembering how much I want to make a clockwork snake eidolon.

Male Human Unchained Summoner / Level 3 / HP [30/11] / AC 16 / T 13 / FF 13 / Fort +2 / Ref +3 / Will +4 / Initiative +2 / Perception +1

Sure. Haha I'm using Unchained Summoner though, so our styles might be very different. ;)

I'm sure Treasure won't mind. It may not even be a big deal. I may end up going just far enough to have a ready made helper for thieving. Or a little spy.

Is it a particular archetype of the summoner class?

No. But it would be nice if one of them had trapfinding. Just old summoner vs unchained. Do you think it's worth it to make a spy or thieving companion?

Male Human Unchained Summoner / Level 3 / HP [30/11] / AC 16 / T 13 / FF 13 / Fort +2 / Ref +3 / Will +4 / Initiative +2 / Perception +1

If you can make a small companion that could be awesome for a spy companion. A teddy bear would be hilarious.

Nah nah. I'm thinking snake. Still trying to figure out how to make it smaller.

EDIT: Or a monkey.

Male Human Unchained Summoner / Level 3 / HP [30/11] / AC 16 / T 13 / FF 13 / Fort +2 / Ref +3 / Will +4 / Initiative +2 / Perception +1

Hmm... I know there is a way to make them small but I cant remember how.

EDIT It isn't small, but the First World Summoner Archetype makes a very Stealthy / Acrobatic Fey Summon.

You simply choose it at creation. You know making a broodmaster with toys is kinda tempting.

Male Human Unchained Summoner / Level 3 / HP [30/11] / AC 16 / T 13 / FF 13 / Fort +2 / Ref +3 / Will +4 / Initiative +2 / Perception +1

Yeah but it is like a two level dip. Still... could be worth it.

How do you figure?

Male Human Unchained Summoner / Level 3 / HP [30/11] / AC 16 / T 13 / FF 13 / Fort +2 / Ref +3 / Will +4 / Initiative +2 / Perception +1

The broodmaster effect only actually kicks in at 2nd level.

Ah. Well if I were going to it would be several levels to make a couple specialized Eidolons

Male Human Unchained Summoner / Level 3 / HP [30/11] / AC 16 / T 13 / FF 13 / Fort +2 / Ref +3 / Will +4 / Initiative +2 / Perception +1

Yeah that would be good. At least six, three HD a piece to be survivable. It makes sense.

Would depend what I made it for. A stealthy spy doesn't need survivability. It needs to go unseen.

HRanger8HP80/80,AC22T13FF19,F7R7W4,Init6,Per13

Make Azei have a special war-form where he looks like Freddy from Five Nights at Freddy's.

Male Human Unchained Summoner / Level 3 / HP [30/11] / AC 16 / T 13 / FF 13 / Fort +2 / Ref +3 / Will +4 / Initiative +2 / Perception +1

I'm an Unchained Summoner so my actual edit of the Eidolon is a lot less broad than the original Summoner. Azeri will always look like an animal man cross.

Yeah. That's my problem with the unchained. They could have made it unbroken without restricting it so much.

Maybe reorder the evolutions. Pounce is freaking broken at low levels.

Male Human Unchained Summoner / Level 3 / HP [30/11] / AC 16 / T 13 / FF 13 / Fort +2 / Ref +3 / Will +4 / Initiative +2 / Perception +1

I actually do not mind it so much. I like the fixes they applied, from a GM point of view, and I haven't felt really too restricted by it. Yeah Pounce is a definite for this build, if I can get it.

You can't if it works the same in New and improved as original flavor. You need the quadruped body form.

Male Human Unchained Summoner / Level 3 / HP [30/11] / AC 16 / T 13 / FF 13 / Fort +2 / Ref +3 / Will +4 / Initiative +2 / Perception +1

Yeah, I am thinking about changing to a Quadruped, maybe. Not sure.

How You do that?

Male Eidolon (Agathion) Eidolon / Level 1 / HP [25/25] / AC 17 [21] / T 13 / FF 12 / Fort +4 / Ref +1 / Will +2 / Initiative +1 / Perception +4

I think I can choose what form Azeri takes at each level. He has the option of being either a biped or a quadruped, as an Agathion bloodlined Eidolon, so I think I can change between them.

Reading it I don't think so. But I seem to remember certain spells.

Help support my Ko-fi addiction l Loot List

I do allow those who are unsatisfied with their character or certain abilities to retrain. Though after something like level 3 I kind of expect you to have solidified who you're playing as.

I'm not a fan of the regular summoner, but at least it isn't something like the synthesist. If you would like to have a clockwork eidolon, I'm sure we could work something out within the unchained version of the summoner. We could, for example, use the psychopomp eidolon with a serpentine form, and visualize it as a small clockwork snake. If that doesn't work, we could tailor it's abilities while referencing the power level of the unchained types and call it a clockwork type. That being said, I wouldn't want to start that level of customization without knowing that you're serious about going through with it.

Technically speaking, Azeri can't change between biped and quad, but if you decide you really want him to be a quadruped I'll give you a one-time opportunity to change it.

He also could work to develop a spell. And right now it's just an idea. As I'm sure you've noticed I'm a bit scatter brained.

Male Human Unchained Summoner / Level 3 / HP [30/11] / AC 16 / T 13 / FF 13 / Fort +2 / Ref +3 / Will +4 / Initiative +2 / Perception +1

I think I'll stay Biped, just for the visual I have of him.

Help support my Ko-fi addiction l Loot List

I figured as much ;)

But yeah. I still have research to do on what it would take. And that psychopomp suggestion is why I dislike the unchained summoner. They made it that much harder to make the Eidolon I want. Before I just had to take the base form I want and say it looks like clockwork.

Male Human Unchained Summoner / Level 3 / HP [30/11] / AC 16 / T 13 / FF 13 / Fort +2 / Ref +3 / Will +4 / Initiative +2 / Perception +1

The Inevitable Eidolons do look like Clockworks, they just can't be serpentine or quadruped.

I don't know everything it does, and I don't want to cheat and read in the book, but, at a guess, it connects to the dimension where the sinspawn reside, allowing the an access way into the material realm upon a magic user's command. It also, and this is probably my biggest guesswork for it and quite possibly wrong, either creates or summons up the lava flow around it. That would cover the conjuration and evocation auras, and the enchantment aura would probably be the magics allowing the other magics to stay on the alter.

But that's just my guess from the auras I can sense and seeing the quasit use it.

A very respectable guess. Feel free to tell the others, and you'll find out more as the adventure progresses.
