Rata --
I've been thinking about the fact that you've been tracking rumors as well or better than I have. Would you want to be one of the rumor trackers in google drive?
Everyone --
I'm wondering if we need a file for "Personae and Places of Interest." We're starting to get a lot of background characters.

Oren Mitabu |

That is a good idea, Nef. There are a ton of faces we have already met. I'd forgotten all about Lucky, for instance, until you reminded me who he was.

Nefertiti Abdul |

Having Moloki recognize me and then bow... it threw me for a loop.
I kept staring at the Kraken's post, going, Wha-a-a-at? Why is the unofficial leader of the Tulitan resistance bowing to Nef?
And then half an hour later... it hit me. Lucky. Yep, that was where Lucky said he was going. Apparently, the old man was better connected than we thought.
But yes, we have a lot of characters bouncing around. I have to keep checking the rumors file everytime someone new is introduced, because half the time... they're there!
Rata is right... this is Rumor Coast, and we have a very devious Kraken.
So... Oren. Have you had better luck with Google drive? Can I draft you, o squat tattooed blaster of pirates?

Oren Mitabu |

Can't do it, Nef. As many games as I am in, I just barely keep my head above water as is, so I selfishly refuse to do any record keeping, lol...

Nefertiti Abdul |

Hey, gang... Since she's still eagerly awaiting Nef's upcoming interrogation, Jacinth graciously offered to help me throw together a guide to the people and places we've either seen so far, or heard mentioned:
I'd still like to get more editors for the notes if I can. Rata, I'd love to recruit you if possible. Oren... someday I'll convince you to join in the notetaking. As you've noted before, I can be very persuasive. But I'll let you slack for a little bit before I reel you in.
Meanwhile, everyone thank Jacinth for putting in a lot of editing time last night with me!
Nef

Rata Fenn |

I probably won't have time to get a post up until tomorrow. Busy day.
I probably can't do the Google doc thing either, since I usually post from my phone while I'm at work. In other words, I rarely have time to sit down at a computer with internet access.

Nefertiti Abdul |

Okay, Rata. You're off the hook for notes.
We'll just chat en route to you until we can all meet up at the Captain's Wheel or the Pig's Whistle.
I cannot wait to hear from you in character what you've been doing under those spoiler tags!

MY THOUGHTS ON PROJECT SLUM
Obviously, this is something that some of our characters just can't ignore. Just as obviously, we players all signed on for Hawaiian pirate adventures and exploring the Razor, not spending months on a fresh water project for the downtrodden.
So here's how I think this could work... I think that our characters could serve as catalysts for the change, inspiring the community of the Outskirts to take the lead on their own project. We come in and out from adventures to help, provide discreet fundraising, check in and remove obstacles as needed. Is there an official or a bureaucrat that is being stubborn? Send Rata in to intimidate him. Or Ke'ahilani to experiment on him. Or Aikane to dig up dirt and blackmail him.
Maybe we'll need to ambush a group of Dragonsmoke dealers and set fire to their supply boat. The possiblities are endless.
Stuff that is boring or takes time could be handwaived off-stage by the Kraken, noting that we spend a week in town laying pipe, or knocking door-to-door getting contributions from every influential Tulita or open-minded do-gooder in town.
In other words, I'm thinking that this could be something happening mostly in the background that gives our characters a bit of purpose without taking away our chance to wrestle crocodiles and fight pirates and dragoons.
Heck... this could even lead into Aikane's once stated goal to be the Shaw Sheriff.
What do you all think? Thoughts? Ideas? Concerns? I'm interested in hearing from others on this, especially the Kraken.

Oren Mitabu |

That's an interesting concept. Can our crew introduce enough change to affect a whole slum? That sounds like a pretty big deal. I'd bet that's outside the scope of the adventure, so yeah, I'd want to hear what the DM has to say, as it would be a ton of work for him, I'd imagine.

Rata Fenn |

Yes, it is a cool idea, and I'm not saying I don't like it, because I do, but can we get to the exploring and pirate killing already? Hehehe. Rata's palms are starting to itch. He yearns for the caress of cold steel against his skin...

The Kraken |

The Kraken has been made aware of your desire to bring positive changes to the Tulita peoples. Rest assured he has taken Nefertiti's plans for the slum into account as your path in this campaign progresses.
A couple of notes...
1) This will be a long term project, most likely lasting the entire campaign (and beyond). Needless to say, it will also be expensive. Still it will give you a chance to deal with the political aspects in Port Shaw. ::evil grin::
2) There will be a way to unite the Tulita tribes later on in the campaign, already in the RC book. You could easily incorporate your slum rebuilding efforts in there afterwards. (I will look over the Kingdom building rules in Ultimate Campaign for more details).
3) Finally, Rata Fenn: Be careful what you wish for...you may just get it, he he.

Nefertiti Abdul |

Hooray for exploration and pirate-killing! We should be doing that soon. We just need to meet with the Tolcrists, go over supplies and... interrogate a certain elvish Captain of ours.
Oh there will be five minutes that Nef and hopefully Jacinth will be under truth spells. I'm telling you guys this in case any of you have a question you want to ask. And I'm not just talking Jacinth. If you want to be devious and put Nef to the question about something... here's your chance.

Nefertiti Abdul |

Since everyone else has moved skill points around, I pm'ed the GM about trading a skill point to put in appraise. Why? Because Nef has really been acting the part of the merchant's daughter throughout gameplay, in the way she's assessed the ships (just looking at them as commodities, without knowing a thing about them) and her knowledge of whale products, which I'm betting that her father, Abdul Basara, has traded in from time to time. Ambergris has been traded for very high prices throughout the perfume-crazy middle east. She's clearly gotten more from her Qadiran heritage than she's realized.
I just wanted to justify what I've been doing in gameplay.
So... what went away from my little desert girl? Swim. Yep, she's never learned to swim. And she's not a sailor. Oh boy. I can see the Kraken grinning and widening his toothy jaws already...

Zemwaar |

District 9
Strangely enough, this is not straightforward for Zemwaar - undoubtedly for him, seeing the Tulita thrust into such lifestyle, broken down and so far away from their origins threatens to break his spirit, and his first feeling deep down inside is to set fire to the whole of Port Shaw ;)
However, he dislikes that his people allow themselves to get dragged into such situation, and also feels like slapping them around until they come to, and get a grip.
That being said, he will most definitely do whatever is within his reach to change the state of things (and to this end, I think Nef's idea hits the spot), and I can perfectly envision Zemwaar drifting into the Outskirts every single time he is in town. But if he does not feel that the Tulita really want to rip away from the conditions they find themselves in, he will feel inclined to leave them to their own devices.
Bottom line, yep! Lets go for it.

"My notes are copious and without error." Aikane keeps a notepad of many leaves upon him at all times, a well-chewed piece of volcanic coal is firmly tucked behind one ear... and yet he never shares his scribblings with anyone.

A potion of Touch of the Sea and some air crystals for Nef. Anyone else want any particular items? Any suggestions on what I should pick up? I listed the options in one of my last posts.
I'll be sparse posting today as I'm on the road most of the day.

Nefertiti Abdul |

Nef will be at work so may not be the best poster either later today. I'm really trying to keep from doing posts at work.
I thought your list was pretty great, Oren.
There are some interesting ideas in Pathfinder Society Survival 101, but many of them are more expensive than what we might be able to afford. Still worth a look, though.
I'll think on this more this morning and see what I can come up with.
Nef
PS Aside to Rata... You'll note that I've given you some in game time to pursue your mini adventure before our meeting with Jacinth. Have fun!

Wedjat |

"Screeeeeeeeeeeee!"
Nef wouldn't suggest this, but I will.
I think we need a Traveler's Any Tool. You never know when you might need a wheelbarrow, or a ladder, or... You name it, really. And you cannot beat the price.
However, I am not carrying both that and Nef. The girl's heavy enough as it is!

Oren Mitabu |

How much gold were we given up front and what do we have left after buying the boat? I could easily spend all of it on cure scrolls, but I want to be sure to leave some left for other expenses as well.

Nefertiti Abdul |

Everyone, I heavily updated Nef's background in her profile -- it still does not include finding Wedjat, or any other recent events -- but it does cover initial meetings with both Zem and Oren, and the vow she gave Elemakule.
I think this only really matters to Zem and Oren, but I thought I'd let everyone know.

Oren Mitabu |

Ok, I am thinking of getting everyone two air crystals. That's two minutes of breathable air in case of an emergency. That's 100 gold per person for two. I think there are six of us, so that's 600 gold right there.
A Touch of the Sea potion is 50 gold more, so we can get one for Nef.
That's 650 gold in total.
A scroll of Remove Disease and a scroll of Remove Curse costs 750 total. However Nef could cast these spells with a day's notice. However, she can't cast Neutralize Poision, a scroll of which costs 700 gold. Should we get the poison scroll, and just let Nef heal the other two conditions the next day?
If we did that, that would be 1350 gold spent. Is that too much?

The Kraken |

Just a reminder Oren, in case you missed it:
Oren, your trip to the Sagacious Samuel’s Magic Emporium is productive as the owner states he has the vials and scrolls available but the cost for each of the Remove scrolls is 450 gp flat fee each. Also the scroll of Neutralize Poison is available for 850 gp flat fee.

Oren Mitabu |

Ah, I had completely forgot, DM. So, for the air crystals, a potion of Touch of the Sea, and the Neutralize Poison scroll, it would be a tidy 1500. Are we in?

Nefertiti Abdul |

Oren, man, thanks for all the hard work you've put into this so far.
I have checked against a bunch of survival lists, but many of the recommended items on there would exceed our cash limit by quite a bit. I think your list is solid.

Nefertiti Abdul |

Then we should start funneling money your way, witch doctor.
After all, you've got to have something to do on your seven days at sea. Because, nothing's going to happen while we're out on the water. (With no weapons. In pirate-infested waters. And a known mad whale on the loose.)

Oren Mitabu |

Cool, DM, I believe we have our purchases as I posted above for 1500.
Nef needs to list the potion and scroll on her sheet along with 2 air crystals. All the rest of us need to list 2 air crystals on our sheets.
And I'm all about letting Lani do some crafting for the more mundane items! That would be a wonderful solution.
Nef, since you were the negotiator I assume the gold acquired was in your possession. Be sure to mark off 1500 gold, if you don't mind!
Ready to sail, lol! Let's do this...

Nefertiti Abdul |

Nef, since you were the negotiator I assume the gold acquired was in your possession. Be sure to mark off 1500 gold, if you don't mind!
Nef should not be in charge of the money.
1) She's currently the most watched / stalked member of the party. Putting money on her is a bad idea.
2) She travels LIGHT because she rides Wedjat. Coins are heavy. Do you really want "the Turkey" whining at you?
3) The player is not great at tracking money, even if the character is a merchant's daughter with a decent appraise skill.
Put the money on you or Zem.

Nefertiti Abdul |

Hey guys... I know that questioning Nef was tough. But you *do* have questions for Jacinth right?

Oren Mitabu |

Mmmmm pie....

Nefertiti Abdul |

Aikane, you clever, clever menehune! Thanks for coming up with a great backup plan for us!
(I'm posting this in discussion because I really have no idea if Aikane will share the contents of his scroll with us...)

Rata Fenn |

Don't let me hold things up, I'm GMing my irl game all day tomorrow so I won't get a post up until Monday. Can't wait to finally talk to Montgomery though!

Nefertiti Abdul |

I'm willing to wait for you Rata. You deserve some good screen time.
EDITED to ADD: But I have no problem with doing the ship's inventory and inspection in the meantime. You can backfill your meeting in on Monday with the Great and Honorable Kraken.

Rata Fenn |

Curse of the Crimson Throne, our first session of the second book. Four players, all gestalt. They've been breezing through so far. I might start beefing up encounters a bit.

Nefertiti Abdul |

So... For those of you who are wondering about what jobs might be done on a ship by your characters, I compiled a handy-dandy guide:
This guide is based on a very rough breakdown of some standard ship's jobs. In compiling it, I looked at what Pathfinder skills might apply, and then looked at which characters in our group had those skills.
What do you think? Does this make sense to all of you? Is the format good?
Give me your feedback and let me know!

Oren Mitabu |

That is really good work, Nef. It looks wonderful!

The Kraken |

OKay after giving this careful consideration, and also realizing the deadly nature of this game, The Kraken (wishing to see the players survive until the end of the campaign so he can devour them) is now going to allow the use of...::Drum Roll please::...
HERO POINTS!
HERE are the rules for how they work.
Each player is given TWO Hero points. Make wise use of them, he he.
