OKay after giving this careful consideration, and also realizing the deadly nature of this game, The Kraken (wishing to see the players survive until the end of the campaign so he can devour them) is now going to allow the use of...::Drum Roll please::...
HERO POINTS!
HERE are the rules for how they work.
Each player is given TWO Hero points. Make wise use of them, he he.
You're a rather generous sea monster, aren't you? Thank you, noble Kraken!

Oren Mitabu |

Very nice! In a Frog God game, we need all the help we can get...

Wedjat |

Hero points are only awarded to player characters. NPCs, animal companions, familiars, cohorts, and mounts do not receive hero points.
"Screeeeeeeeeee!"
I must be too awesome to require help.

Aside to Aikane.
Yep, Nef did the math on what was already spent. That merchant blood of hers must be rising to the fore again. And none of us know about the money Aikane needs... It'll be a fun time for all!
Hopefully, there'll be something on that island, or that we have enough spare cash amongst us to pay off Bethany.

Just a note. I'll be mostly out the next couple of days, beginning about lunch time tomorrow. I've got a road trip to watch my basketball team in the ncaa tourney tomorrow night, heading directly back home and sleeping about two hours before heading to work on Friday. I'll probably pass out after work on Friday, and it will be Saturday before I get back into the swing of things, then hopefully I'll be heading back on the road trip for the next tourney game, not getting back until late Saturday night. I'm sure I'll have some time to post sporadically, but don't freak out if I'm not here as much as normal for a bit.

Nefertiti Abdul |

Enjoy your games and your road trip, Oren!

Nefertiti Abdul |

Per the Kraken's Request, we now have a duty roster of when people are working shifts.
Please take a look and critique this.
Core assumptions:
8 hour sleep shifts
At all times:
2 people needed for tops
1 person needed for helm

Nefertiti Abdul |

Just in case there is someone who cannot read the Google Drive, here is the work schedule.
Since the storm hit just before noon, I'm assuming that Rata and Zem stayed on duty through the storm, and will be broken by Aikane and Ke'ahilani right afterwards.

Aikane (low-light)
Ke'ahilani
Oren

Team 2's Schedule
0000-0800 Sleep Shift
0800-1200 Work Shift
1200-1600 Free Time
1600-0000 Work Shift
Jacinth (low light)
Rata
Zemwaar
Nef
Note: Jacinth can only take helm. Rata can only take tops. Zemwaar can do both.
Nef -- Always paired with an experienced sailor -- schedule also broken by assorted galley duties.

Nefertiti Abdul |

Nef checks in on Rata. "A day and a half bedridden? That's no good. Do you want me to send Ke'ahilani to treat you again?"
Joking aside, we hope you get better soon. Big hugs, Rata!

Nefertiti Abdul |

There's an upcoming Nef post to address having to shift the schedule for Rata's fatigue. Upshot: We're switching Lani to Team Two to cover the Team One shift, and sending Rata to bed so that he can help you guys out in Team One after 8 hours rest.
Aikane and Oren will be asked to spell Jacinth and Zem for an hour, and then head to bed. We need Aikane's lowlight vision for the night shift.
This has been cleared offline with Jacinth's player, who is on a very long workshift today. Nef has been delegated as Steward and "Keeper of the Schedule" to make this work.

Oren Mitabu |

I will be back to my regular posting schedule on Sunday, hopefully. In the interim, please feel free to put Oren on any shift we need filled. He might not be happy with the grunt work, but knows it needs done, lol.

Nefertiti Abdul |

You get to be on the Helm, Oren. Enjoy. It's more intellectual than normal grunt work -- you should enjoy it!

Nefertiti Abdul |

Hugs. I really hope you feel better.

Rata Fenn |

Since Rata practically grew up manning a merchant vessel, I think it seems a bit odd that he doesn't meet the requirements for the helm. What were the required skills again? Is it survival? He only has a +1 in that, but he has +6 in prof. sailor. If you would allow me, sir Kraken, I would change his skill points to reflect these abilities since it only makes sense, given his background.

Nefertiti Abdul |

Yes, it was Survival or Knowlege Geography.
Are you feeling better? I really hope so!
BTW, since you and Ke'ahilani switched shifts, you're likely up at 0500.

The Kraken |

Rata Fenn: I think you are conflating two things together. Helm and Navigation. When you departed Port Shaw, Captain Jacinth plotted your course already which would be covered under Navigation, which is now its own skill. Now since you have your course plotted, keeping to that heading would require just a Profession (Sailor) check.
On that note, I am instituting a new skill called Navigation. Please check the Campaign tab for rules on how the skill works.
Players, I will allow you to switch your Survival and Knowledge Geography skill points into Navigation. This goes for the other players as well. Jacinth, you MUST have this skill so please swap out your Knowledge Geography for Navigation.

Zemwaar |

Get better soon Rata!
Master Kraken - How will Navigation interact with Survival and Profession (Sailor)? I am skill starved as it is, so need to think carefully about it - basically Navigation is to find a path, and plot how to follow it, yes?
Also, I'll just go ahead and say it here, instead of apologizing every week:
Posting from Friday to Sunday is usually sketchy for me - it is weekend, family time, and all that. It can amount to frequent posting if I have free time in my hands, or it can run otherwise.
Thought I'd just drop it here now, so you guys are all aware ;)

The Kraken |

Zemwaar: Navigation is like a sea-based Survival skill. So look at it this way. Survival is on land while Navigation is on the ocean.
As for the posting schedule, no worries! Even the Kraken likes to take time off from plotting various ingenious ways to torture and devour his PCs to spend time relaxing with family and spouse, he he.

Wedjat |

Now since you have your course plotted, keeping to that heading would require just a Profession (Sailor) check.
"Screeeeeeeeeeeee!"
Nef got it wrong again! That's probably because I wasn't helping her make her crew lists.

Nefertiti Abdul |

I'll move Rata now to the list of those qualified to run Helm, which is everyone but Nef and Wedjat.
Navigation (Int)
You are able to plot sea courses and aid a ship’s helmsman in navigation. A successful Navigation check plots an 8 hour course along a coastline or a 24 hour course in open sea. Navigation is a class skill for clerics with the Travel or Water domains, sea-witches (a new druid archetype), sailors (a new fighter archetype), and rogues.
So of all of us, including Jacinth, only Aikane can get the class skill bonus if he takes this skill? Survival and Knowledge Geography are more widely available as class skills. If a player with a class skill in one of these converts to Navigation, he will lose his class skill bonus -- unless it's Aikane?

The Kraken |

Reading the Survival skill, it does not specify land based only, but many of the applications for Survival do not work at sea, like tracking and such. However the other applications for it are perfectly fine for use at sea, like predicting the weather.
After thinking about it some more, it makes sense Jacinth would have Navigation as a class skill, due to her NPC class. Jacinth, go ahead and treat Navigation as a class skill.
I also want to offer an apology for dropping this skill change on you guys so abruptly. I know you have put in a lot of effort in selecting skills and I threw a monkey wrench into that. That is totally my fault. If you all want me to junk the Navigation skill, then I will do so. In any event, next time I will consult you first before I make any changes like that.
Deal?

I'm kinda lost in the sheer volume of posts from this past weekend so someone nudge Rata when he's supposed to wake up for his shift and I'll pick up from that point, haha. These weekend posts never cease to amaze me!
Meanwhile I'll take a gander at adding in the Navigation skill to Rata's repertoire and as soon as someone can tell me where Rata currently is (with him failing that Fort save, I honestly have no idea) I'll gladly edit that here map thingy.
Edit: Welp, apparently I don't have any skills in survival or kn. geo. so I guess Rata's navigation is staying at nil unless I can pull from other skills.

Nefertiti Abdul |

Rata --
You must be feeling better. I'm glad.
You switched places with Ke'ahilani, slept for eight hours to remove your fatigued condition, and started up on the next shift in the tops at midnight -- 0000 hours.
You are currently AWAKE and on duty at 0500 with Aikane and Oren and should let the GM know where you are on the deck.
______________________
Rata, Zemwaar, Kraaken et al. --
I apologize for the sheer bulk of weekend posts. As they were half me, I assume responsibility. My spouse and kids were off doing other stuff all weekend, and I admit I just sort of threw myself into the pbp.
It was not my intent to overwhelm others. I will try to slow down and cap myself off at 2-3 posts per day in gameplay.
:(
Yours
Nef

Rata Fenn |

You be you, Nef. Don't apologize for doing too much, I simply felt obligated to explain my situation. Thanks for the clarification. I'll edit the map with Rata's current location.
And, yes, I am feeling much better, despite the fact that my school got eliminated last night. So thank you for that. :)

Zemwaar |

From my end, really there is no need to apologize for anything Nef - sometimes some of us will post more, and sometimes less.
I don't think your posts are overwhelming - when I have spare time, I also like to post more frequently, and I think it happens with most players. As long as we all understand and accept each other's pace, all is well.
Again, from my part, keep it up and don't slow down ;)

Nefertiti Abdul |

Guys, thank you for your feedback. I was really afraid that my posting pace had made everyone else feel overwhelmed or unhappy. I'm glad that is not the case.
Group hug!

Wedjat |

"Screeeeeeee!"
Wedjat ponders what sort of monster might be lurking in the hold.

A well dressed woman in pink smiles at everyone, thumping large suitcases filled with cosmetics. "Avon calling!"
As she pulls out the lipsticks and perfumes, the crew looks in horror. "Whale products!"
Cue insane whale, rushing upon the hapless Rita...
So... That's my theory. What's yours?

I know! Rata does more with a dagger than many swords. Wow.
EDITED TO ADD:
Ke' charges into the hold, two bottles with flames lit held ready to throw.
"HYEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA oh for craps sake is it over already?" He said with disappointment.
He absentmindedly blew out the flames on the bottle tops.
Oh Lani, thank you for this.
I'm still reeling from the death of a beloved character and needed the laugh today.
That was AWESOME! Thank you, Friend!

Aww, that's sad, Nef. Character deaths suck, lol.

Nefertiti Abdul |

Oh no. A failed acrobatics check from Oren... Someone save my big brother!
We're currently on the normal posted duty roster. Does anyone need clarifications of where they are?
On duty in the storm: Oren, Lani and Aikane.
Off duty but posted that he's helping anyway: Zemwaar.
Off-duty: Nef, Jacinth, Rata.

Zemwaar |

Well, if Oren goes overboard, Zemwaar is diving right after him.
In fact, if he seems to be going overboard, Zemwaar will try to catch him before he does, while dangling from his own lifeline - Spiderman anyone? :)

Nefertiti Abdul |

Zem -- My hero!
Kraken -- The nomenclature is confusing here. I think we were reading topside as anything above decks.

Nefertiti Abdul |

You shine always.

The Kraken |

Kraken -- The nomenclature is confusing here. I think we were reading topside as anything above decks.
Nef: The helm sits in a covered area, so the helmsman gets some shelter from the winds (an important factor for ships dealing with frequent storms out in the Razor Coast) and therefore does not need to move around...much, he he.

Nefertiti Abdul |

Ah. I didn't realize that this helm was covered. Thanks for the clarification.

Yeah, my lack of knowledge about ships is strong. I'll probably make rolls every time, and you can tell me if I need them or not, DM, lol!

Nefertiti Abdul |

With us in the doldrums until late morning, early morning will be a great time to propitiate Whale. Both shifts will have hardly anything to do. If anyone is interested in going out in the lifeboat with Nef for this, let me know.
