Dirty Pete is a sailors name with a long and wild past in other seafaring campaigns.

Here are some of my suggestions:

• Pil'au (Stinky, Filthy) -- Our nickname: Dirty Pete;
• Huhu I'a (Angry Fish) -- I think we'd just call him HuHu;
• Maka (Eye) -- I don't know if he's one eyed, or just sees clearly.

Now I'm laughing, Bret, because I already suggested Dirty Pete. Every gaming sailing ship should have a Dirty Pete!

Back to our new crew's names, nicknames, etc.

The Kraken graciously provided us the following Hawaiian names for our new crew, which I then looked up to find the Hawaiian meanings:

• Kaleo -- "The voice"
  
• Konani -- "Bright"
  
• Kualana -- "Famous"
  
• Mikala -- "Hawaiian version of Michael"

Going back to our list of nicknames, what do you think of the following to go with these names?

• Konani as Butterfly, because I like the idea of a bright butterfly.
  
• Mikala as Maka, the eye. It's a shorter version of his name.
  
• Kualana as Dirty Pete -- he's famous for skipping baths.
  

Assigning a nickname to Kualana is especially important to me because I don't want to mix up his name with Ke'ahilani's.

I'm not sure what we should do for Kaleo. I don't think that Huhu or angry quite fits with the Voice in my mind. Yes, you can have an angry voice, but I'm not sure that I like the combination. Clearly, Kaleo sings. Anyone want to suggest another nickname, or do we want to go with something simple, like "Kal"?

• Aikane means "Friend" in Hawaiian.
  
• Ke'ahilani means "Fire of the Sky" or "Heavenly Fire" Ke=of; Ahi=fire; Lani=Sky.
  
• Oren is Hebrew for "Pine Tree" -- So Oren has a colonial name, which fits him.

LOOT

The Kraken updated our treasure log, and I'm assuming that all the cash will stay in group funds for the moment, since we have nothing to spend our money on except for potentially the rescue that Aikane arranged for us.

However, there is the loot off of Captain Hazeltree that could be used.

The Captain had on him a potion of cure light wounds, a +1 chain shirt, buckler, +1 longsword, masterwork light crossbow with 20 bolts.

Anyone want anything from here right away?

Remember, I can turn all that treasure into Potions! Is there anything that people need in the way of Level 0, 1, or 2 potions?
12.5 gp for a level 0 potion.
25 gp for a level 1 potion.
150 gp for a level 2 potion.

I can also make acid flasks, alchemits'fire, tindertwigs, thunderstones, smokesticks, sunrods and tanglefoot bags as well.

I don't need any of the magic items, so the rest of you can divvy that up between yourselves.

Potions are always nice. Barkskin is always a good one for melee types. Same for Bull's Strength. Oren wouldn't turn up his nose at a potion of Mage Armor or two.

The ability to have you make potions is part of the reason Nef was so desperate to get you off the work roster.

Like Oren, Nef needs none of the items. She actually can't pick up more weight and fly Wedjat (unless she uses Ant Haul all the time.)

Actually, I suppose that we should also be asking Reknar if he needs any of the magic items. As a prisoner in his skivvies, I'm wondering if he even has any gear...

That might even be Reknar's gear, now that I think of it.

FYI: none of that gear belongs to Reknar. His gear is stored elsewhere.

People taking extra helpings of treasure are climbing up a very slippery slope on tearing a party apart, IMHO.

In an attempt to be equitable here with loot, I should note that taking items will lessen the amount of cash you eventually get. In effect, you are purchasing the item at book value from the group with money from future paydays. We're going to try to spread out the wealth so that every party member feels that they've been treated fairly.

Since the group apparently does not know about the pearls, I will not calculate the pearls against Aikane's treasure balance.

*nods* Fair enough. I can respect that. If you wish to do that in the future I will go ahead and spoiler those results. My apologies.

You don't hire on roles or tropes, you hire on people. Your character is a person, same as the rest of us, not just a role.

I'm not particularly comfortable not being able to trust all the other characters in the game.

I promise (as a player) that Aikane will use the pearls toward good ends.

Honestly, my only means for using them would be to pitch them to Zemwar as a parting gift, which had crossed my mind.

Otherwise, I'll use them towards paying Bethany. If that comes up, then we can certainly note a debit on Aikane's account using established accounting practices.

Altogether, it amounts to nill. What's wealth if you can't spend it?
Are there ancient elven vending machines on dolentia isle? Who knows?

If 200gp of pearls is fighting money, then son, we are going to need to put the revolution on hold. Maybe we can open a laundry or something.

I hear there's good money in that.

I think what we may have here is a clash in vision.

Character Concept vs Cooperative Playing

Aikane is a fascinating character to me. I love his internal monologues, and the clever way that he arranged a rescue from the Quell's Whore for us.

I understand that he is a character built around secrets, and I don't begrudge Aikane having secrets. What bothers me more is not getting or receiving dialogue hooks. Aikane's best lines are internal -- I can't riff off them. When Nef asks him a question, he usually thinks rather than speaks the answer.

I'll admit that I love the character and desire more interaction and dialogue with him. If Aikane thinks one thing and tells us something else, that would be fine. Just give me something to work with.

I'll admit that lately I've stopped trying to create interactions and dialogue for use with Aikane, because I when I write something, I like responses. And maybe this is solely a Nef problem. For some reason, Aikane doesn't trust her character. I'm not sure why -- maybe it's that she's a foreign missionary? Or simply that he sees her as a dangerous show-off who cannot blend. So maybe this is solely a Nef / Aikane dynamic.

Pearls vs Precedent

I personally don't care about the 200gp worth of pearls long-term. If Aikane asked Nef for 200 gp, she'd give it to him in a heartbeat.

Or more accurately, she'd give him 115gp (everything she had on her, cash-wise) and be willing to discuss with other party members about getting him the remaining 85gp that he needed. But then she's not all about money. She loves haggling, but cares more about her friends than the money.

But Nef would hate to have the money stolen from her. The precedent that this sets sows distrust.

One of the things I'm wondering here is whether Aikane, disappointed that the party spent his share of the advance, is trying to make sure that he will have something to pay Bethany Razor of the Quell's Whore. Then stealing the pearls becomes an act of twisted caring, kind of like what Bilbo did by stealing the Arkenstone in the Hobbit.

Okay, Trux... Let's see what Aikane does with the pearls. It looks like my last paragraph was on track.

OK, and you can put my old Lamellar (Leather) armor in the pool as well.

Rata doesn't really care about treasure, but he does care about being able to trust his companions, and I believe Aikane is worthy of that trust for the time being.

Rata passes on all loot gathered so far, but will gladly take his share of the gold, with thanks.

Hey Lani!

Here are some thoughts... We may need extra air crystals to cover new crew and Jacinth.

A potion of spider climb may be great in a storm to keep our crew members safe.

BTW, we have a home for your alchemical lab now. If you look at the map, there's a room in the stern of the ship filled with barrels. If we had guns, it would be full of powder. We don't so that room can be claimed if you'd like.

I have an insane few days coming to finish out the week, but I will try my hardest to keep things flowing with tonight's dialogue. I realize Rata is a major player in this scene and I want to give it the attention it deserves.

Everyone, I'll be without wifi from Friday to Sunday doing my Quilt Camp thing.

Kraken, if there's a combat (and I'm fully expecting one with Nef drunk) here's what Nef would do for botting purposes.

1) Activate Bardic performance.

2a) Assuming she's not to drunk to fly, she'd get up on Wedjat and try to position herself so that she can activate Dazing Channel without taking out her fellow crew. She can select out 5 creatures to exclude from the daze. So long as some of the crew are out of range, this should work.

2b) If she's too drunk to fly she might help others by ordering Wedjat to Flank Attack with Aikane so that Aikane can get full sneak attack damage. Or just send Wedjat to attack enemy if they're humanoid and on the ship. If it's some sea monster, she'll keep Wedjat out of combat since he can't swim.

@ALL: Nefertiti's post reminds me of something I wanted from each of you. Since I know we all have busy lives outside of Razor Coast and since combat can happen at *ANY* time...he he...I request everyone post a spoiler in their profile called "Tactics", detailing your combat actions in general. It doesn't have to be completely detailed, just a few lines of text will suffice detailing both melee, ranged, and SA options. This will allow the Kraken (that's me BTW) to bot you more easily, thus preventing combats from bogging down for too long.

Oren's tactics are the same as any Mage. Stay out of the way and blast away.

If it looks like a major fight, he will activate his scrimshaw thing to get a +4 to his Int for ten minutes, I think. Then he will drop all the thunder he can from as far away as he can! Easy peasy...

Query to the rest of you... With Zem gone, Wedjat no longer has his secondary back up commander. I still have a "Serve" trick on him, but have no idea who to assign it to... Suggestions?

Honestly? I would say probably Oren or Lani. Oren and Nef have the (more established) sibling bond, Lani is her new guide.

Oren sort of thinks of Wedjat as a big chicken, literally. It would probably be better to pass him on to Lani, to be honest.

After quite a few iterations I've completed Rata's tactics section. Man, the modifiers for this character make my head spin. It doesn't help that HeroLab is giving me a +1 untyped attack bonus that I can't for the life of me find the source for. My best guess is the fencer trait which gives me a +1 attack to AoOs. Nonetheless, the modifiers should all be accurate to the best of my knowledge.
