GM Nayr, would you accept my roll I already posted as my perception roll, then add my +7 bonus to the 5 I rolled = 12, or just try Sea Shanty in the future? I am fine with either of course.

Can I for my daily ship action go down and sing a sea shanty to X-eye?

GM Nayr |

What would you use that roll for, Tap? You could go down and perform, yes. You could time it during the day so as not to look like shirking your duties.
For perspective; this is day 1 of perhaps 2 dozen days at sea, so don't show all of your cards quite yet;). You won't die....maybe.
Thanks guys; sorry if you had already given me that info

Actually I rolled 3, not 5. My mistake. Well, I figured, I'd try to avoid becoming fatigued...singing a sea shanty (3+7)to myself ever so softly.
Ill write th rest in the gameplay area

TapTap |

And my last song was also meant to be a nighttime entertain action. I'm fine with whatever you decide GM, of course.

TapTap |

np. My work load also ebbs and flows.
Ha! Very thematically appropriate to the AP. :)

I assume that there is a weapon prohibition on board (i.e., cutlasses are kept in the armory), and only sea knives are allowed. Have we seen nmost sailors carrying weapons?
Jack: I imagine a cutlass would be hard to hide.

Then how about my buckler. Other than that, I have oil, candles, a grappling hook, some air bladders for diving, a pouch of lost coin 20gp (i assume that was taken too...)
I'm frankly disappointed in the official rules stating that you can't do a shield bash with a buckler. The buckler was not just a small shield, but was used as a weapon in its own right, used like a metal fist. They were often adorned with spikes for extra damage. Much less clumsy than a big heavy shield. In terms of damage caused, it couldn't be less than that for something like metal knuckles. Knuckles are listed in the weapons inventory as doing 1d2/1d3 damage (http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/ultimateEquipment/armsAndArmor/weapons. html#martial-weapons-table).
See http://www.thearma.org/essays/SwordandBuckler.htm for a nice essay on the history of this weapon.

snort. I told you, I should have not bought any equipment, and just kept all my starting gold in a money belt. :)

GM Nayr |

Arden - I'd say yes; that's sure a neat loophole
Jack - I tend to agree; seems a buckler would be quite a bit easier to swing. A cutlass could be concealed near your hammock, but would be a bit tricky to carry around. Why don't we say that Sandara didn't think it was wise to get you a cutlass, so instead got you a light weapon - a dagger, for example.
Your coins are gone too, no doubt claimed for your 4 star accomodations.

If I may recommend, Jack. I'd take the buckler (if this can be reasonably hidden). Or the soap.

TapTap |

Besides, could a grappling hook, (and) its rope be hidden?

TapTap |

In fact Tap retires. I could use a sea shanty to help avoid exhaustion doing some nighttime exploring, but then people might hear me

TapTap |

A sea singer learns to counter seasickness and exhaustion during long sea voyages. Each round of a sea shanty, he makes a Perform skill check. Allies within 30 feet (including the sea singer) may use his Perform check in place of a saving throw against becoming exhausted, fatigued, nauseated, or sickened; if already under such an effect, a new save is allowed each round of the sea shanty, using the bard’s Perform check for the save. A sea shanty has no effect on instantaneous effects or effects that do not allow saves. This ability requires audible components.
Does this mean that if I had chosen to explore in the middle of the night and had became fatigued/exhausted the next day after failing a Constitution check, I could use a sea shanty the next day to try to recover?

At level 2, I'll get a monkey familiar. Too bad a monkey is so small...it would be bad ass if Taptap could ride the rigging on his ferocious monkey mount.

TapTap |

Fipps Chumlett wasn't mentioned by Sandara, I do not believe.

xeyed-jack |

Well, its good to have friends, inn't it? I can roll an intimidate too, but I'm thinking either an attempt at diplomacy (what do they want anyway?) or an attack. I have a pretty robust bonus to initiative, and bluff, which I thought I might use in combo, like: Oi! Mr. Scrubbs, can I help you!? looking past Fipps shoulder. He looks back, and I strike. I figure, if we take out the leader, one of us can become leader of the gang.

TapTap |

This guy is being a jerk, but not yet deserving death. Diplomacy/Intimidation/Bluff out of situation.
Jack, 6 + the ones on the stairs against us 4 PCs(not counting on Sandara) not good odds. If fight is necessary, it may be that knocking the fatman senseless, will get the others to stand down. If possible, we can try to all focus on him.
Kerruk's charm spell seems great.
Wish I learned the sleep spell.
