WhtKnt |
Okay, this is the official recruitment threat for WhtKnt's Throne of Bloodstone game. This scenario is set in the Forgotten Realms, but we will be using Pathfinder rules for the crunchy bits. The scenario is pretty straightforward; go into the Abyss, retrieve the wand of Orcus, and return it to the Seven Heavens for destruction.
I will be recruiting six characters, total.
RECRUITMENT WILL END ON OCTOBER 29 AT 11:59 CST. I will make my selections between then and the 31st of October.
- 20th-level characters
- 25-point buy
- 3rd-party material may be allowed on a case-by-case basis. I'd prefer you didn't, but since I'm using some, I won't outright ban it. Ask first. If you provide me a full run-down of the material, I'm more apt to say yes, but it must be LEGALLY obtained and shareable!
- 880,000 gold pieces to spend on mundane equipment and magical items
- Crafters, you may craft only up to 1/3 your maximum wealth (that is 29,333 gp worth)
- Any two traits that do not violate normal rules for such
- No drawbacks (they simply won't appear in play enough to make them worthwhile)
- Prestige classes are permitted
- Any alignment is permitted, but evil characters should beware; you WILL be descending into the Abyss in this scenario
- You should include a brief background, though they need not be too lengthy or detailed
Ultimately, my decision will come down to party cohesion, character design, and which characters intrigue me most. Background will figure into it, though not as much as other campaigns. Mostly, I'm looking for people who spell well and use good grammar.
Obvious min-maxing will get you dropped from the selection process. Strive for a balanced and interesting character.

Cool :)
Here's my Dot, and a few quick questions.
1 the abyss. Is it filled with demons, devil's, daemons, fiends? I never remember which comes from where :S
2 have you thought about using the Automatic-bonus-progression rules and cutting our wealth in half? It would allow us to use some of the more unsual items :) that and I would be quite curious on how well they work at high levels. (Edit: and you could call some of the bonuses as innate gifts from our patrons, or something.)
3 similar to above, can we combine items at the normal +50% cost? What about crafting? One good rule I have heard is that you can only craft using 1/3rd of your wealth.
4 it should be asked (but I won't be using it) about leadership and cohorts... (And animal companions, ect too. Can the come with us?)
5 and just to make sure, what races? I am thinking about a goblin alchemist, as one of my ideas :) he's a blazing fireball ^-^
I should probably be numbering these. Done :)
Oh ya, about me. I have not played in the forgotten realms games (started in 3.5) and such don't know about any of their lore/deities. So i may have to ask a bit about that stuff ^-^

1 person marked this as a favorite. |
dotting for interest.
The Realms is one of my favorite settings!
Thinking a paladin of Torm might be interesting. Guy is less Sir Lancelot and more Sparhawk with a big dose of Tynnian or Ulath. He curses, he drinks, he enjoys pleasurable companionship, and he has sworn himself to serve his god to destroy evil.
Barring that, a devotee of Eldath because Eldath is nice. I like the idea of this super tranquil cleric going on an epic quest to destroy evil objects of evil. They'd be this calm in the storm of destruction.
Speaking of clerics, will you use Realmsian gods or Pathfinder? Also, how will you deal with their Domains?
WhtKnt |
Okay, in order:
@The Pale King
Yes, very. You can do it if you wish, but I strongly recommend against it.
@Gobo Horde
1) Demons.
2) Considered it, but no.
3) Yes, you may combine at +50% cost, within reason. Crafting rules added to Character Creation, above.
4) Cohorts, no. they will stay behind to hold down the fort. Animal companions, yes, but see above regarding mounts.
5) Goblin is fine.
@Dragonofashandflame
Realmsian deities, and I will address domains in a future post.
@Rynjin
I see no problems with the stalker

Alrighty, good stuff! :D. Seriously, this is refreshing. I'll provide you with the appropriate material via Google drive if you want, but I'll be throwing together a Machinesmith/Transmechanical Ascendant. He'll be very combat oriented using two complimentary archetypes. This toon is my brain child so I hope you like him when I'm finished :)

Question for anyone: Does anyone know of a way to be permanently on fire? Or turn into a permanent Fire Elemental? I know of the cursed Cloak of immolation but is there another way?
Also, WhtKnt, would you allow me to have the Cloak of immolation? I will have lots of fire resistance, so i wont take any damage, and I mostly just want to be a flaming goblin if at all possible.
(although I imagine that fire itself wont be that usefull against demons, and I will have to resort to other energy types for damage, I still want to be on fire :)
Edit: oh ya, I should say. I am a goblin alchemist.

well here is the start:
started character in the profile.
the backstory is actually Golorian based, but it can easily adapt to FR setting (just change some of the names of places really. (as well as the gods where applicable)
the bottom of the profile has a link to this character's story. It is not very well written as I am not a writer, but I think it does get the general idea down.
I wanted to go assassin, but that requires an evil alignment (for some reason) like killing and getting paid is evil, yet some king wants the bandit leader killed and you kill him and get paid for it isn't? wierd huh?

As a Ninja, for what purpose would you go Assassin? The Ninja's Assassinate is better than Death Attack.

not sure, never in a game with this character beyond level 3 or 4

OK. Here is a basic rundown of the character I am thinking :)
At its core, I am a goblin Alchemist that is obsessed with fire.
Now I can either be a utility caster/bomber or a Melee bruiser with utility.
Either way I will be taking Mythic Brew Potion and be a mythic trickster with the Assured Drinker ability.
Also, since I am an alchemist, I am going to have really high stats no matter what. +8 to 2-3 of them + everything else means that they are just going to be high :/ And they last 20 hours a day (aka all day). You said that you wanted to avoid Min/Maxers and stats like +30 Str/Con, +3 Int/Wis fighters but for an alchemist to NOT get that high of stats would be hard :( And Ill have high stats across the board
The Utility Caster/Bomber
This guy will have 2 focuses. The first is potions, which he can craft as a full round action any extract of any level he can cast (up to 6th), which he can then make 1 (at a time) last however long he wants. He can also hand these out like candy for everyone :) (hence he has some massive utility casting and buffing ^-^)
The second is Bombs, and here is where most of his feats and discoveries will go. He will have rocket bombs, Immolation bombs, Explosive bombs, Cursed bombs, Frost bombs and any other kind of bombs i can think of XD
If all that fails and my poor gobo hits the dirt, well then, He might just go up in a raging inferno, taking everything with him as he nukes XD
The Melee Bruiser
This guy will be significantly more focused on natural attacks and high stats. Using Feral Mutagen for his natural attacks.
He will also have a potion of Elemental Body (Fire) set as his eternal potion and so can be a permanent fire elemental that way (but I cannot make anything else permanent). I will also have to fire-proof all of his equipment XD
He will still have most of the utility that the Utility caster has but will have significantly less Int (cause no cognoagen) and ranged ability.
And as above, when all else fails, NUKE TIME!
Now I just got to decide on which :/

I believe Slayer may also be something you can look into perhaps
Gobo Horde |
Ok, just to hash out the stats, heres something close to what he will have :)
25 pts
Str: 26 (14 Base, -2 Race, +6 Belt, +8 Mutagen)
Dex: 44 (17 Base, +4 Race, +5 Lvl, +6 Belt, +8 Mutagen, +4 Elemental Body)
Con: 30 (14 Base, +6 Belt, +8 Mutagen, +2 Elemental Body)
Int: 20 (14 Base, +6 Headband)
Wis: 18 (12 Base, +6 Headband)
Cha: 8 (10 Base, -2 Racial)
Armor: 43 (10 Base, 17 Dex, +8 Mutagen, +4 Elemental Body, +4-8 Bracers of Armor)
So ya, they will be high.
Rynjin |
20th level characters' stats are naturally high. I believe what the GM meant was not dumping everything but your main stats into the ground (EX a character starting off with an 18, two 16's, and three 7's).
Which would be stupid anyway, especially since 25 point buy makes having a stat below 10 unnecessary except for extremely MAD builds.
Rynjin |
Would you also allow the Deadly Agility Feat? It's from the same book, and is available on the SRD.
Deadly Agility (Combat)
You have learned how to use your agility to greater purpose in battle.
Prerequisite(s): Weapon Finesse, base attack bonus +1.
Benefit(s): You may add your Dexterity modifier in place of your Strength modifier when wielding a light weapon or a weapon that gains the benefits of the Weapon Finesse feat (such as the rapier) when determining additional damage inflicted upon a successful attack.
This modifier to damage is not increased for two-handed weapons, but is not reduced for off-hand weapons.
TL;DR: Dex to damage with Finesse weapons, prereq is Weapon Finesse and BaB +1.
I was thinking of doing TWFing for either character, so this would help lower side reliance on Str.
Edit: Eh, actually, I never play archers so that sounds more fun instead. Still, good question to ask for Finesse characters.

Current rough concept:
Cha'Tima Achak, Garuda Blooded Aasimar, Stalker (Judge) 20. He's a member of the Shoanti Shriikiri-Qua (Hawk clan). Was prophesied to do great things at birth due to his fortuitous heritage, and has by all accounts fulfilled that destiny. Retrieving the wand of Orcus and destroying it will be his final great challenge, to do or die what no man has ever done before.
Edit: Wait, crap. This is Forgotten Realms.
Is there anything like the Shoanti there? Native American-esque tribal nomads?
I know the Icewind Dale dwellers, but they're more nordic barbarian types.

I THINK there are some tribal-equse groups but I think they apply to a race or two. Forgotten Realms has ALOT of material for it so I guess it will depend on the GM.
Storyteller Shadow |
I will post a submission over the weekend. It will be some sort of Multi-Class Cleric. Will be tying my Background in with the Heroes of Bloodstone for sure.
Just one question, are you allowing Psionics? :-)
FYI, I am familiar with the Module in that I ran the first 3 about 10 years ago. The characters opted to NOT complete this 4th installment (which is an issue I will be addressing in my own future Forgotten Realms table top game). So I am familiar with the scenario's overall goal but the details I have largely "forgotten" :-)
Storyteller Shadow |
Well the 4th module is weak compared to the rest, I won't say why as to not spoiler. The beer chugging is rather tacky.
I am sure many of the changes the DM will have made will involve some of the sillier aspects of the 2ed Module. A lot of those old Modules had nonsense like that :-)
