sorry for the quick post, was on my way off to work
the lighning arcs through the air the scent of ozone permeates the area. As the lightning strikes all of those in the area one of the bugs litteraly explodes as pieces of shelving and bug guts is sprayed all over.
The other two are definately burned. the shelving provided enough cover to keep them alive but they are not entirely unscathed.
thier immediate reaction seems to "Run!" as the remaining two scurry across the floor toward the wall seeking shelter from another assault.
the bugs are centipedes, giant in size, when arched up to strike thay could easily be the hight of an average human.
but in thier present state, they nothing more than heavily burned bugs desperatlytrying to survive.
killed the bottom bug, the other two severly injured (aka at 1 hp)

Tatsuo grimaces slightly. A brief flash of some unidentifiable emotion crosses his face before it returns to its neutral mask. He walks back to where Mrimmy is standing and bows slightly to her before retrieving his bag. "Thank you for looking after my things."
He then turns to Mickey, "By the way, the note you found says,
'You stupid fool- by the time you find this note it'll be too late. You'll never have her back! And by the time she recovers from what I've done to her, she'll be able to visit your grave!'
Sounds more like an enemy of the baron was responsible for his wife's disappearance rather than some curse."
Tatsuo Arashi |
"Well, I don't see anything else of much interest in this room. Shall we check to see what lies beyond door number two? I would also suggest that the last person to leave shut the door."
Tatsuo leaves the room, and goes to wait for the others by the intersection.

the non-magical stone vials are empty. they appera to have been empty for a long time.
DM of the coins |
Are you guys going to the other door? or proceed down the corridor to the stairs.
Tatsuo Arashi |
Tatsuo opens the door to the other room.
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 Perception like this is why I've been having Tatsuo hang back. :P
DM of the coins |
I have my notes at home (at work right now) going off of memory here but it should be close to what I put in there
The door open rather easily. it was unlocked. a quick examination shows that the locking mechanism as well as the latch have been damaged preventing the door from locking again.
the door was forced open from the hallway like someone was breaking in.
see previous spoiler plus you think those bent crowbars were used here
Inside the room appears to be approx. 40 foot by 40 foot square. the walls are a polished white marble.
in each of the four corners are what appear to be small trees planted in pots. the trees each are about 3 foot in height.
the branches and the leaves actually glisten off your light source like they are made of either crystal or metal.
in the center of the room is a circular pool with dirty stagnant water. there is a low wall around the pool. from the doorway you cannot tell the depth or if there is anything in the pool.
across the room directly opposite the door,is a statue of a pirate captain.
This appears to be a statue of Captain Jayce Nemoren. more commonly reffered to as Jayce the Three fingered swordsman.

Detect magic
DM of the coins |
Ok this is actually important...I need to know what your light source is (if any) is it a torch, or magical light? Connor I believe your halo counts as magical light correct?
DM of the coins |
when you scan the room, at first the only thing that seems to radiate magic is something small on the hand of the statue.
but when Connor comes by the door and the light of his halo shines in the room all four trees and the pool take on a very, very faint glow of transmutation magic.
the glow on the statue also has light transmutation magic glow
all others:
the torch light from Mickey does nothing but once Conner's glowing Halo starts to shine in the room the trees in the room make a tinkling sound and the leaves rustle ever so slightly as though a breeze is blowing.
To the untrained eye the leaves are seemingly made of gold.
the trunks and branches of the trees are made of Jade and each leaf is made of gold.
each tree has an approximate value of 8000 gold
on the wall behind the statue there is a faint magical glow (about a 4 inch round circle on the wall itself)

Sigh. Oh virtual dice. Why do you hate me?
"Well, the trees are magical, obviously. There also seems to be some magic coming from the statue's hand. It seems similar to the magic from the trees, but it detected as magic before Conner stepped in while the trees did not."
Tatsuo walks over the the statue to give it a closer look, giving the pool a 5ft berth and keeping one eye on it.
Letha Celestborn |
If nothing happens, Letha pokes an arrow into the pool to see if it is acid by any chance. She the asks the party if somebody can stand behind her to grab the Oracle if something happens. She then tries to determine if the liquid has any scent.
"We should take the plants with us."

The pool contains just that -- water nothing happens when you poke it
You also notice that the pool itself is only about 1 foot deep and in the center at the bottom is a circular indentation, about 3-4 inches diameter.
nothing happens when your arrow touches the water
you find that the magic on the statue is coming from a ring on one of its fingers. but even more interesting is Once you are near the statue you now see on the wall behind it a small circular section that radiates magic. the small area is what appears to be a circular shaped stone with a hand print. the indentation for a hand is missing a finger.
Tatsuo Arashi |
Does it look like the ring is part of the statue or like it could be removed? Also, I'm assuming the statue is missing an identical finger to the hand print, so does it look like the statue could be maneuvered to have its hand place in the hand print?
"There's a place here on the wall where someone is obviously meant to place their hand. Whereby 'someone' I mean Captain Jayce since the print is missing a finger."
I guess spellcraft to try to figure out what kind of ring it is.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Or not. :/
"Tenebral, could you possibly take a look at this to see if you can tell if something bad will happen if the wrong person puts their hand here?"
DM of the coins |

DMPC Tenebral
Tenebral moves to check out the hand print on the wall. he realizes that the hand print is magical lock. it cannot be opened except by someone with a disfigured hand. there is no mean to open the door or whatever it is that this lock is keeping shut.
the ring on the statue is made of brass. it looks like it could be removed from the statue but it would require that the statue be damaged to do so. you will have to break the hand of the statue to get at the ring.
Conner K. |
"none that I can do, but I believe some such magic exists"a regenerate spell for example "perhaps we could trick the lock by lifting our finger, or we could use the statue's hand, though if we break the hand fixing it would be difficult"
DM of the coins |
Tenebral responds I am not a wizard, but perhaps, Of course I doubt any of us have that skill
Tatsuo Arashi |
"None of the magic I know can. And unfortunately, I personally don't know any spells that can force open a magic lock or allow someone to walk through walls. It conceivable that the ring on the statue might help, but it would require breaking the statue to do so, which may not be the best of ideas. I would suggest unless anybody has any other suggestions, we leave this door for now. We might find something to help further in or if need be, we could leave and come back with a scroll or two."
With that, Tatsuo walks up next to Letha and also takes a look at the pool.
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
DM of the coins |
Tatsuo: you can act on the spoiler for Letha above concerning the pool.
each of the trees weighs about 1000 pounds but is seems that the gold leaves could be easily removed.
Tatsuo Arashi |
Tatsuo leans forward to try to take a closer look at the circular indentation. With a slight grimace he reaches into the water to feel for any irregularities along the sides or bottom of it.
Does it appear to be a drain/plug? He's basically trying to figure out if it could at all be related to the hand print panel above.
DM of the coins |
Tatsuo: nothing happens to you except you get wet.
The indentation is perfectly spherical only about 4 inches in diameter.
DM of the coins |
the first and most obvious thing is that the statue hands are not carved in a position that will allow it to be used to open the lock.
also the brass ring is on the left hand of the statue and the markings on the lock indicate the right hand needs to be used.
Tatsuo Arashi |
Tatsuo walks out of the room and down the stairs, a signal whistle between his lips.
If he needs light, he'll create Dancing Lights (although he only has a total of 3 minutes worth of it. After that, he'll light a candle). He's going to continue on until he sees something interesting, keeping the lights well ahead of him (so basically if someone were standing at the light and had low-light vision, they'd just be able to see him). He'll also have Detect Magic up.
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
If you guys really want to do stuff with the statue, you can either assume that Tatsuo didn't leave until you were done, or we can come back to it.

Conner tries to remove the ring first and then carefully remove both hands with his sword

damage with greatsword: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 2) + 6 = 9
Conner pounds the statue with the pommel of his sword, though the blow proves powerful he only manages to chip a piece of the wrist.
A few more blows eventually separate the hand from the statue and it falls to the ground shattering from the impact (weakened by the blows)
the clink, clink sound of the ring on the floor.
