Silver Crusade

Just want to say hi, I'm a paladin/bard (aasimar) and from what I can tell I'm the closest thing we have to a leader, though others may disagree.
I don't know about the GM but talons look far from OP to me.

ok first of all Hellos Slyness.

I case you are wondering I am also known as Sister Azmaria...

Now as far as the Claws thing, I did allow Changling which does also give claws. So i will allow the claws in place of the daylight SLA.

another thing,, The party does need a trap finder. so be sure you do have that covered.

Haha, howdy! It is a small (virtual) world.

Excellent re: claws, thanks!

Aye, re: traps. I plan to cover it either through a slayer talent or the campaign trait, Trap Finder. Looking at a couple of builds at the moment.

Another question: Will the new character be included in the silver key tradition? Just so I know for backstory.

no on the key thing, that was just the intro part so no need for that now

Howdy, Slyness here.

Adir, my Slayer(Vanguard)/Lunar Oracle(Stargazer) for your perusal. I haven't finished updating Ghost yet, but I will do so soon.

Thanks for the consideration.

Edit: I believe everything is up-to-date now. Please let me know if you see any inconsistencies.

Hey Slyness/Adir. I'm the previous newbie of the group. Do you have any ideas on how you're going to end up on the island? Felix got shipwrecked.

I do not know yet. I'm still reading through the gameplay for details, so perhaps that will offer inspiration.

well here is a little bump wondering if there will be other applicants or not.

Well now...with only a single applicant guess that kind of narrows he selection down..

wonder if this game has some sort of reputation or something?

Adir... just give me some motivation and a little backstory that I could work with.

I might join.

Ill adapt Lin.

What is that you don't care for in his background? He's already an adventure-seeker with ties to the shady side of life. Between that and the one sister, I thought there were a couple hooks. I'm happy to adapt it, though if you're just not interested in the character, that's okay, too.

For reference:

Background: Adir is the youngest son of well-off parents. In some circles, they are even considered a lower noble house. The family has a tradition of divine servitude to the deity of the sun, whether as part of the priesthood or a divine warrior. Adir's youth was spent in training to follow such a path. However, a much shadier life was what intrigued him.

He spent time in the underbelly of his home city, sneaking out and learning the trade of pickpockets and thieves at night, while training in the divine during the day. When it came time for his confirmation into the church, something happened at the ceremony. Some say that he rejected the offered position; some say the sun deity rejected him; even stranger reports say that a wolf interrupted the ceremony and carried Adir off.

Whatever happened that day, his divine powers are now tied to the moon somehow. He also believes himself to be cursed by his ancestors.

His family cut ties with him, the only one willing to speak to him now is his youngest sister, Luna.

Silver Crusade

Which is the story your character would tell, and which one is the true one?

Nothing I didn't like I just wnted to be sure you have what you want in there. I'll admit I didn't read through everything yet. It was more of a note to be sure you have included what you want ..

Yeah I sometimes get a little wacky when I try and multi task too much

let me know when you are complete. again for you as well, be sure to include a little motivation.

also for everyone. exact tie in will be up to me. If you build a story that puts you anywhere in the Shackles great, but if not I will figure out a tie-in.

Conner K. wrote:

That's the fun of the ambiguity. Any of them are viable and I get to find out the truth as I play him and learn who he is.

Okay, dotting for interest. Character idea is a Half-orc Ranger (trapper, wild hunter)/Witch (witch doctor, hedge witch) from the Mwangi Expanse, currently working as a pirate sawbones. Can write up backstory in a bit... how much crunch do you have?

Basic idea:
-Trapfinding, with level-scaling bonuses (as rogue)
-8 skill points/level
-Big fat tank (Starting 26 HP, +10/+7/+5 saves, gets armor at level 3)
-Spontaneous healing, because you can never have too much

-Former tribal jungle shaman who wears creepy masks and befriends wild animals

How's this? Wouldn't mind some feedback before I start statting up.

Name: Lin Zi
Race: Human Female (Tian Xia Ethnicity) (17 years old)
Alignment: CG
Class: Summoner 2/Bard (Sound Striker) 2
Party Role: Social, Scout/trapmaster, Secondary arcane caster
Description: Young Tian Xia woman in a sailor's doublet with a keffiyeh over her head, brown leather backpack with a heavy mace comically large strapped onto her slender frame, brown eyes and black hair cut short to almost a boy's cut.
History: Slavers, thieves, unscrupulous bartenders rolling drunks of hard-earned coin; Lin Zi and Kachu found no shortage of targets back in Tien Xia. They worked their way through villages and towns, Lin finding gossip and distracting targets with songs, Kachu sneaking in the back and deftly grabbing all he could find. One day they accidentally picked on a rogue samurai of great wealth and power who raised the entire town into an uproar against them. With the roads blocked, they had no choice- they abandoned much of their hard-earned loot and turned to the sea, stowing away on the boat of an independent trader from Avistan. When eventually discovered, she was able to convince the captain not to immediately throw them overboard with her quick and silver tongue. Amused and impressed, the captain kept them on- Lin to keep order among the crew and negotiate with buyers when they landed, Kachu to use his deft hands and nimble limbs to knot ropes and hoist sails and do all the finicky little jobs a sailor needs to do. Eventually the ship crashed on the dangerous reefs of the shackles, with all hands lost except the little Tien girl who grabbed a piece of wood and clung on it to shore. Since then she's been hiding out in the jungles and forests, attempting to survive, half to mostly convinced that she's in a land of savages and cannibals; she recognizes none of the groups and buildings she's seen as part of 'civilization'.

Personality: Good-hearted, cheeky, very young, greatly enjoys talking to people and learning about them and manipulating them. Very protective of her Eidolon, Kachu, and people close to her in general. She wants to become the greatest thief in the world so she can protect her friends. While she knows no one in Osirion yet, she hopes to make friends soon. She also very firmly insists on robbing only those who deserve it. It can be difficult for her to make friends as she tends to see people first as things to be manipulated, and she gets quite indignant if anyone ignores or dismisses her because of her age. She instinctively distrusts anyone who seems of noble stock, either because of their manners, dress or bearing due to an upbringing which was quite explicit about the flaws and self-destructive tendencies of nobles. As a noble, even a low-status one, she experienced a well-fed and comfortable childhood. This upbringing manifests in a significant preference for comfortable living and good food, with occasional embarking on a strict paltry diet and giving away her more comfortable clothes in a bid to break the habit; it hasn't worked yet.

Eidolon: Kachu is a small monkey-like creature with dark black-blue fur and a gently glowing white rune in an unknown language on his forehead. He is mischievous and loves Lin deeply. He's also quite lazy unless there are challenges or peanuts to motivate him. He can speak, but prefers to hide this fact.

Secret history: Lin was born into a family of Tien nobility who fell from grace and status not long after she was born due to her mother running off with a bard from Avistan. Desperate to regain his family's place, her father spent all his remaining gold, bribes and blackmail information on hiring magicians to bind the spirits of his family's ancestors into his daughter. If she became some mighty force, he could use it to fight his way up. If she became a conduit for their wisdom and past, he could use that to impress the other houses with his family's history. And if she went mad he could disown her and make her younger brother Hua his heir, a boy a better prospect for advancement. Unfortunately the container can define its contents, and the history and magic of the Zi family ancestors channeled through a mischievous young girl manifested as a small monkey with blue-black fur, the house sigil animal. Disgusted with his failure, Lin's father retreated into himself and barely noticed her stealing away in the night. Lin had always been fascinated with the few Avistani tales and fables which had made their way to Tien Xia. Where Tien heroes tended to be creatures of order and tradition, many heroes from Andoran and Brevoy were good-hearted creatures of chaos and mischief. While her sheltered early environment caused some initial awkwardness, her personable manner quickly made her friends and patsies as Kachu and her became more adept at their new trade, robbing from the evil or unfair and giving to the poor- after reasonable expenses. Lin wouldn't mind running into her mother as she journeys through Avistan, just to find out what kind of person she came from, but she's not actively looking. The rune on Kachu's head is the Tien rune for 'Zi'.

will catch up tomorrow, had a very long day and the car broke down and to top it off I was stuck walking in the ice and snow.

all better now, made it home and car is running for now. need to get it to the shop in the morning.

I appreciate any consideration, but I am withdrawing my application. Good luck and good gaming!

sorry to hear adir, i hope it wasn't me...

Lin, looks good.

thunderbeard, lets see what you come up with.

Alright, Thunderbeard here, with my submission. It's an... odd character, I suppose.

Kwale "Scarface" Dorugash
Half-Orc, NG, from the Mwangi Expanse
Range (Trapper, Wild Hunter) 2
/Witch (Hedge Witch, Scarred Witch Doctor) 2

*Note: spells, skills, and exactly how Kwale joins the party are all up for tweaking. I figure it's likely enough for him to show up as either a shipwreck-survivor washed ashore or a mercenary of some sort.

Description/Personality:

Kwale Dorugash, known affectionately as "Doctor Scarface," has spent the last year or so working for a crew of the sort of hardened, no-questions-asked sailors who frequent the shackles. Years spent chasing jungle creatures through trees and across streams has made him an agile sailor in the rigging, his skill with an axe and cutlass has kept him alive and well, and his knack for healing has earned him a steady income.

"Scarface" is a fearsome sight to behold, often seen wearing a wooden, stylized rhinoceros mask that only serves to hide his even more startling tribal tattoos. Under his heavy sailor's coat, a web of scars and piercings criss-cross his skin, the remnants of both battles survived and self-inflicted tests of strength. No human has ever beaten Kwale in a drinking contest, and his ability to laugh in the face of danger and pain is near legendary among the men he has served with.

Underneath his tusks, tattoos, piercings and masks, however, Kwale does his best to mean well. While he would never run from a fight, he never seeks them out either, simply doing his best to protect his allies and his honor. While savage, he is not stupid or ignorant, merely walking a healer's path in a rough and ruthless world of his own choosing.

Backstory:

Kwale knows little of his parents, but—like Pippi Longstocking—has told many stories of his father being a cannibal king on an island somewhere in the Fever Sea.

Found as a child on the northern shore of Lake Ocota, Kwale was deemed one of the Rainkin — half-orc children descended from the elusive, though relatively peaceful, orcs of the deeper jungle. The clan that raised him was by nature suspicious and warlike, but the young half-orc displayed an incredible ability to withstand pain that earned his adoptive clan much praise among the local tribe, as he ambitiously undertook hunters' tests of pain and scarification rituals years before he was expected to.

Kwale had a natural knack for the ways of the forest, and distinguished himself as both a hunter and healer, while the rituals he undertook guaranteed him a seat at his clan's religious rituals. The shaman of the Dorugash soon took Kwale in as an apprentice, teaching him proper magic and sending him out to learn from other elder half-orcs among the tribe.

But despite his brutish and muscular appearance, his gaping fangs, the terror-masks he carried, and his impressive coat of scars, tattoos, and piercings, Kwale was a gentle soul, never quite at peace with the warmongering ways of his tribe. While the family clan that raised him were hunters in name, they delighted when the greater tribe called them to skirmishes against the local Kech or livestock raids against the Ekuja elves. Although Kwale merely acquired a few more scars from these battles, he saw too many of his young Dorugash brethren enter the healing tents and never leave, and shuddered when this was declared a proper warrior's end.

Something deep in his past called him to seek a more benevolent path, and so, guided by the spirits of his ancestors, Kwale snuck out of the forest one night, determined that if he was born with the skills of a mighty hunter, he would at least try to put them to a more benevolent use.

And so he set out, wandering from village to city, learning the language as he went and offering his services as a jungle doctor to those brave enough to ask for his help. Eventually, he found his way to the shackles, where his terrifying masks and battle tattoos earned him respect among the saltier sort of sailors, just as his healing skills earned him their thanks in the wake of pirate attacks.

Role:

• Decent set of skills, with big bonuses to Disable, Intimidate, and training in the usual ranger skills
• Tank — high HP, saves, and AC (with arcane armor feat at level 3)
• Casts all spells based on Con (and replaces ranger spells with archetype)
• Good buff/debuff spells, decent spontaneous healing at higher levels

Class Abilities:

Patron: Ancestors

Hex: Slumber

Track (Ex): A ranger adds half his level (minimum 1) to Survival skill checks made to follow tracks.

Wild Empathy (Ex)

Combat Style: Two-Handed

Animal Focus (Su): At 1st level, as a swift action a wild hunter can take on the aspect of an animal, gaining a bonus or special ability based on the type of animal emulated. This functions as the hunter's animal focus class feature, though this only applies to the wild hunter and not an animal companion (see shared focus, below). The wild hunter can use this ability for 1 minute per day per ranger level.

Trapfinding: A trapper adds 1/2 her ranger level on Perception skill checks made to locate traps and on Disable Device skill checks (minimum +1). A trapper can use Disable Device to disarm magic traps.

Constitution Dependent: A scarred witch doctor uses Constitution instead of Intelligence when determining the highest level of spells she can cast, her spell save DCs, number of spells known at 1st level, and any effects of her hexes normally determined by her Intelligence.

Hex Scar: Whenever a scarred witch doctor learns a hex, she must carve or brand a symbol in her flesh to represent this hex. She can disguise these scars with mundane or magical means, but they cannot be permanently removed.

Scarshield (Su): At 1st level, a scarred witch doctor learns how to harden her mutilated skin, gaining an enhancement bonus to her natural armor bonus equal to 1/2 her class level (minimum +1). She can use this ability for a number of minutes per day equal to her class level. These minutes do not need to be consecutive but she must spend them in 1-minute increments.

Fetish Mask: At 1st level, a scarred witch doctor forms a bond with a wooden mask. As she gains power, her connection to this mask causes it to grow ever more hideous and grotesque as it absorbs the weight of the self-induced pain that underlies her magic. Her spells derive from the insights her patron grants her while she's enduring the cuts, burns, and other sorts of mutilations she inflicts upon herself. Her fetish mask acts in all ways like a witch's familiar for the purpose of preparing and gaining spells. Rather than communing with a familiar to prepare spells each day, a scarred witch doctor hangs her mask on a wall, tree branch, or something similar and contemplates the agony it represents.

When wearing her fetish mask, a scarred witch doctor gains a +2 circumstance bonus on Heal and Intimidate checks and gains a +2 bonus on saving throws against effects that specifically cause pain or have the pain descriptor. If the mask is destroyed, the witch doctor can create another fetish mask (which almost immediately adopts the shocking appearance of the original) for the same price and time it takes a witch to replace a dead familiar.

Race Traits:

Intimidating: Half-orcs receive a +2 racial bonus on Intimidate checks due to their fearsome nature.

Orc Blood: Half-orcs count as both humans and orcs for any effect related to race.

Sacred Tattoo Many half-orcs decorate themselves with tattoos, piercings, and ritual scarification, which they consider sacred markings. Half-orcs with this racial trait gain a +1 luck bonus on all saving throws. This racial trait replaces orc ferocity.

Forest Walker More at home in the forests and jungles of the world, these half-orcs are well adapted to their surroundings. Half-orcs with this trait have low-light vision and gain a +2 racial bonus on Climb checks. This racial trait replaces darkvision.

Weapon Familiarity: Half-orcs are proficient with greataxes and falchions and treat any weapon with the word “orc” in its name as a martial weapon.

Low-Light Vision

*Realized that for backstory reasons he should probably have the "Shaman's Apprentice" half-orc trait (lose +2 to intimidate, gain endurance), fixed in profile.

Here's my sheet.

ok sorry about the silence... but wondering of the two that applied who is still interested.

also are there any more applicants.

also current players please pM me any thoughts.

Hey, Ed, valdric here. Not sure how I missed this but I'd love to throw an archeologist lore warden into the mix - I've had him in two games but both have fizzled out. I'll convert him to gestalt within the next day or so.

Here's the original profile for a sneak preview until I can complete the conversion.

Still interested.

Sure, still interested.
