got swamped at work, every time I sit down to get to post, I barely get a post in then Bam...another crisis
To those outside in the hall. you hear a voice from beyond the metal door, it is a male voice and does not sound like something a ghoul or zombie would say.
(see Felix's post above)
A room. approx. 30 feet square. In a corner, there is a man chained to the floor, just out of his reach is a pile of stuff, apparently gear that probably belongs to the man chained to the floor. A statue of what looks to be a sailor or pirate, dressed rather fancy and holding a scroll (the carving is such that the statue appears to be reading the scroll) in the wall near the statue is another wooden door.
The room: a lush carpet adorns the floor of this ornately decorated room. large bookcases fill two walls and a desk with (unlit) oil lamps in one corner. near the wooden door is a large leather chair.
the only thing that seems totally out of place is the fact that on the "western" wall is a perfect circle burned into the bookcase and wall. destroying most of the contents of the bookcase.
Since youonly recently awakened you finally were able to notice something unusal about the carpet, a pair of cloven hoof prints burned into the carpet.

DM of the coins |

any that enter the room can also make the perception check above (just that Felix gets first shot)

Felix Tark |

The man has unkempt brown hair and brown eyes that are both scared and determined. His nose is a bit crooked as if it's been broken in the past and there a few faded scars visible on his face. He's wearing a white shirt with a tan vest and dark pants. He's chained to the floor from his left wrist with a very short length of chain.

Azih |

to notice? Perception, noticing is always either perception or sense motive, identifying is knowledge since I just have to no roll a 1 or 2 to pass that perception DC I'm just going to take ten
Hah yeah I did mean identify. Felix could take 1 and pass the per check so he's good

DM of the coins |

You are able to identify the marks as that of a demon, but there is not enough to identify much more, except only that whatever type it was it is very powerful.
Stories you have heard seem to point toward Orcus, buty there is no way a demon of that legendary status could have been summoned here? could it?
the DC is really high but I wanted to give a little something for your roll

Jeironn |

Jeironn sees the prisoner but stays back, leaving the others to deal with him. Instead, he picks through the books, in particular looking in the center of the burned area to see if there was a title of note that is at least still readable, then looking through the rest of the remnants.

DM of the coins |

among the stuff you find several scroll cases. on of witch has writing on it in Draconic. that one appears to have been opened.
the rest are still sealed.
quick question did i give you the section of map?

Tatsuo Arashi |

Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Planes: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17 Not sure what the DC on that planes check was.
"Do you know where Lisette is? We told some lizardfolk who were most hospitable to us that we'd do our best to make her stop killing members of their tribe."
Tatsuo is dressed simply and comfortably in a loose, knee-length, dark blue robe. A white sash tying ties it shut around his waist in such a way that it doesn't inhibit his motion. Underneath his robe he appears to be wearing a loose pair of dark leggings that stand in stark contrast to his white, split socks and straw colored sandals. The sleeves of the robe fall to about the middle of his forearm, and where the cloth leaves off, tattoos of dark storm clouds pick up, running about midway down his hands. He's wearing a strange triangular hat that covers the top half of his face. His hair, what you can see of it, appears to be black and kept short. He appears to be unarmed, only carrying a backpack slung across his right shoulder. He pauses only a moment after jumping off the boat to look around before setting off at a brisk walk in one direction.
He inclines his head slightly to one side as he introduces himself. "I am Tatsuo of the Arashi Clan. My companion here" he indicates a small black dragon at his side "Is Sora."
Knowing that he's not going to be able to free the man himself, he stops to examine the scroll the statue is holding, making a few gestures to try to get it to reveal its secrets. Detect Magic and Read Magic

DM of the coins |

Mickey, will need a disable device to pick the lock, He is chained to the floor.
you get the same info from the earlier post for knowledge planes
your detect magic indicates the scroll tubes Jeironn found are magical, or at least the contents are magical.
the statue carved as a person reading a scroll. there are words carved on the scroll it is holding:
Know your adversary before battle
Enemies can often be summed up by answering these three questions
What is their chief desire
What are they willing to do to gain it
What do they fear
When you know your enemy, you can be best prepared for battle

Felix Tark |

Felix nods at Tatsuo I met the same lizardfolk I think. I don't know what that crazy monster Lisette is but I do know we have to keep the umberhulk away from her. She wants to control it and dig her way out of here. She can't leave any other way it seems like. Have no idea what those claw marks are about. Some powerful demon is loose. This place is a full on monster closet.

Felix Tark |

First I am going to find that umber hulk and save it from becoming an undead slave by, uh, killing it and then I am going to find that crazy Lissete and put her out of her misery
Maybe not in that order
You said you own this place?

Tatsuo Arashi |

"Hmm, Jeironn, could you perhaps pass me those scroll cases? It appears they're not empty."
If Jeironn passes them, Tatsuo opens them, pulls out what are most likely scrolls, and casts Read Magic on them.
Tatsuo waves absently at the statue he had just been looking it. "It also seems whomever made that statue there believes in knowing your enemy: what they want, how far they're willing to go to get it, what they fear. That sort of thing."

DM of the coins |

sorry bout the delay weekends are sometimes busy for me
the already opened scroll is empty, but there is writing that you can make out
"GATE"
the other scroll tubes are sealed and have no traps that you can see.
and as expected in the scroll cases are ....scrolls
the following spells are on the scrolls inside: Speak with dead, remove Paralysis, cure light wounds.

DM of the coins |

sorry I should have mentioned that (does he read common?) If so...
Know your adversary before battle
Enemies can often be summed up by answering these three questions
What is their chief desire
What are they willing to do to gain it
What do they fear
When you know your enemy, you can be best prepared for battle

Mickey Carver |

He doesn't understand any language, but if it isn't just smooth, he can get someone's attention.
Reeves stands on the statue's shoulder and sees the thingy has squiggles. Squiggles means stuff.
He skitters off the statue and onto Mickey, tugging his long black hair over until he he moves towards the statue.
He shows him to scroll.
"Can you come read this?"
He motions to Tatsuo.

DM of the coins |

tat has already read it, but I don't think he shared it so now both mickey and tat know what it says

As you are discussing where to proceed and what to do, the door to the South (next to the statue) bursts open. as three animated rotting corpses start to shamble into the room you are in.
A room. approx. 30 feet square. In a corner, there is a man chained to the floor, just out of his reach is a pile of stuff, apparently gear that probably belongs to the man chained to the floor. Conner frowns and moves to the front of their group and immediately cleaves his magic blade deeply into the creature
1d10 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
edit: this stands unless someone gets seriously hurt in which case he heals them.
