I almost just did a spit take on my computer. Nice one!
Lucky for you you were not drinking milk, I understand that's rather painful coming out of the nose

Guys, Omar's base bonus of +42 is higher than any of the Search DCs for traps in this module. It's literally impossible for him to not find every trap, and as you guys are being so methodical about searching everything, I'm wondering if I should just tell you what traps he finds and disarms as you guys proceed through the tomb so as to save time on rolls and posts.
Conversely I could raise the trap DC's by 20 so that you guys occasionally might miss a trap, making searching and rolling meaningful.
Or we could just continue as we're doing, with you guys searching and finding every trap and disarming them as we go.
What do you prefer?
Omar bin Zayed |
I did somewhat hold back and let Twitch have a hand at it on purpose.
I suppose one could say I did rather overengineer Omar for traps.
I'm fairly ambivalent about the course chosen. I find traps sort of boring, since they are fairly focused on just the trap dude, and bore the rest of the party. However if you don't have an over the top trap dude, whoever takes point gets screwed.

Or like Gauthier suggests, let Sargon lead 8>)
One of the problems with older mods is how traps function and I believe that making DC's in the 60's is a bit unrealistic. I believe that a character who focuses on removing traps or anything really should be able to do it. You are a hero after all.
But like Omar said it is a bit tedious waiting for trappy mctrappington to do his thing. I am all for telling us the traps as long as our trap guys still enjoy their characters.
Dragox |
Whatever works for the group is fine for me. Dragox isn't a trap guy, and I'm fine with however they are handled.

That's a potential problem when new classes, archtypes, feats and whatnot are introduced, sometimes they overpower a module.
My rogue's perception for traps is a 25, I'm fine with what ever you do. I would also suggest that don't permit taking 10 or 20's for various skills for the same reason, you remove the chance for failure.
Dragox |
Thinking more about the traps issue, DM, I wouldn't object if you increase the DC's here and there. Traps are obviously a huge component o Mike's death trap here, and if none of them can threaten us, that takes a bit of the fun out of it. I say you ramp up the DC's to make us sweat, if no one objects.
Reyondelee |
I'll go ahead and be the coward that says, I'd much prefer Omar's optimization work in our favor, and we just get some flavorful descriptions of Omar being awesome at finding things that have the potential to kill us, and then disarming said things that had the potential to kill us. However! I want Omar and T'wich to also enjoy playing, so I'll defer to them. My vote, though, is for Omar's awesomeness to serve us getting further into this tomb of mud sorcerer death. :)

Omar: Ambivalent, traps are kind of boring
Sargon: Tell us about the traps
Gauthier: Maybe raise the DC
T'wich: Fine with any option
Dragox: Increase DC
Rey: Tell us about traps
That seems to be two votes in favor of skipping traps, two against, and two ambivalent/abstention.
So what I'll do is this. The easier traps I'll just have you guys walk through with a description. The really fun/harder/key traps I'll raise the DC, with no 10's or 20's allowed.
T'wich McGruff |
That works. I like traps personally. Make them hard.

Hey guys, wanted to post a warning. In KY, we are getting pummeled with ice and snow right now. I'm scared the power might go out, and if it does, it might be out for a while. If I go silent, please bot Dragox until I get back.
Hopefully, it's nothing, but we've got about a foot outside and it's not slowing down as of yet.

Hey, don't be baby you should have plenty of time this weekend to post. T'wich will bot you..."Clank touch that springy thingy...don't worry you 'ave armor on....can't hurt y'much."

Did we miss a doorway back in room 4? The one with the statues that came to life and tried to kill us all? I swore there were four doors in that room, weren't there?
Sargon The War Sage |
You are correct, there is one more that we have yet to open, the one facing north

Actually Him and Omar have it for 6 hours as they are in the front. Man I love that spell
Reyondelee |
They had it for six hours when we entered, I'm guessing two hours has gone by so far, so the rest of us have it for two more hours, and they have it for four more hours. Do we dare just cast a greater dispel magic on the rug? What if all those people in it pop out as drowned corpses? Also, this has to have something to do with that riddle, does it not? This has to be the watery doom.
Sargon The War Sage |
Rey, let's see the results of that awesome spellcraft check and then hopefully we can get him out via magic. Just in case, I do have 2 limited wishes well 3 since we found that 5K diamond for unforeseen situations like this.
