Can Omar take 20 on the check? It says retries are allowed on perception checks as long as the stimulus is still there? With Sargon's magic bullhorn he shouldn't have to get close enough to get hurt if it strikes.

Questions for the snake
1.Like Rey suggests, some question to confirm if it is telling the truth(Does anyone have detect lie?)
2. Is it going to attack Dragox
3. The safest most direct route to where...I can't remember his name lies.
T'wich McGruff |
Sorry for the lack of posting the last couple days but I've been battling a nasty cold. DMPC me as needed.
T'wich McGruff |
I'm still fighting off a nasty cold. I'll get back to posting by Sunday.
T'wich McGruff |
About the questions, I don'T have much to offer beyond what I said earlier, but here are my suggestions:
1. Why are you helping us?
2. Do we risk waking the mud sorcerers?
3. What is the mud sorcerers' greatest vulnerability?
I like #3 but would lose the qualifier "greatest", and think there should be a variation to #1 asked since I wouldn't presume this is "help".
1. Why are you granting us three questions?
2. What are the mud sorcerers' vulnerabilities?
3. Where is Jezule, the longdead wizard-priest, located?
I can't imagine that the mud sorcerers not knowing we are here.
Reyondelee |
- What is your name?
- What is your quest?
- What is your favorite color?
Sorry, had to be done. :P
Now for realsies.
I cannot believe no one has suggested this before, but we have to ask something about the mud sorcerer's symbols of power! Don't you think? Not exactly sure how to phrase that... How do we use the symbols of power? What's the secret of the symbols of power? What use do the symbols of power have?... Somebody come up with something better. I'm guessing though that at some point those symbols and their use is going to be the key to getting deeper into this tomb.
I do like the vulnerabilities question, but vulnerabilities assumes a weakness that they might not have. Perhaps we could rephrase that: How can we destroy the mud sorcerer(s) buried in this tomb? Something a little less vague, I guess....
My third suggestion would be: Will you please assist Reyondelee in sketching a map of the entire tomb? That one is tricky because the snake could say 'yes,' but then not actually help... Worth a shot though. If the snake is telling the truth and will actually assist Rey in sketching a map of the entire tomb, it would really help out our continued journey.

I like twktch's questions with one removed and Rey's suggestion about asking how we use the symbols of power to help us inserted.

I like twktch's questions with one removed and Rey's suggestion about asking how we use the symbols of power to help us inserted.
How does this look for the questions:
1. What is the purpose of the mud sorcerers symbols of power?
2. What are the mud sorcerers' vulnerabilities?
3. Where is Jezule, the longdead wizard-priest, located?
I think if we know the purpose we will eventually figure out how to use them or stop the MS from using them against us.
As for vulnerabilities (in general) it gives us plenty of wiggle room to get a couple snippets of information (and the DM also gets some wiggle room). If we are too specific with the questions that could back fire on us and the question could be wasted.

I will go with Twich as well
Reyondelee |
Looks like T'wich has it. :) I'm fine with that. More than likely we aren't going to be getting any real trade secrets out of the snake anyway, and at least we can get the adventure moving along again. Is Dragox the one that has to do the asking/listening?
Sargon The War Sage |
I put the third answer in my campaign spoiler just in case.
Sargon The War Sage |
DM: I am curious, would you let us in on what would have happened if he had failed?
Dragox |
Honestly, that worm thing is the only part of the adventure I remember from reading it in Dungeon oh so long ago. I don't remember what it did, but I remembered it was bad. That's why I picked it up...I didn't want the rest of you to suffer a failed save. Dragox wanted to take one for the team.
Sargon The War Sage |
Dragox you truly are an example for all the young folks who someday hope to become a Holy Badass.
I have no doubt it's bad, anytime I hear something does 1 pt of damage in a high level mod It's time to worry.

Lol, I knew it was bad, but I didn't remember that it was that bad! I'd have let Twitch go ahead and do the questioning if I remembered, haha.

As with Omar's traps, I'm going to be more fluid and proactive with Rey's knowledge checks to help keep things moving. In fact, moving forward, I'll assume all items get checked for magic and their qualities identified if possible, and will post the results so that we don't have to leap through the same burning hoops of fire.
By the way, congrats! You've found the Mud Ring!

Regarding the Mud Ring, can all those abilities be used in here.

EJC: When you get a moment, could you update the map
electricjokecascade RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 16 |
Alas, I can't! I'm on the road and my laptop doesn't have the photoshop capabilities or the map file I've been working with. Bear with me, and I'll update as soon as I can.
To be clear: the secret door is on the western wall of the rug room, close to the south wall. It extends 10 feet west before turning south.
Reyondelee |
I'm still confused about which way is which when we look at the map.
Could you give us a compass rose here in the discussion thread, so I remember?
Is it like this?

Given a choice, Their is no way Sargon would attack Dragox
Reyondelee |
EJC, can Rey use her Fascinate bardic performance to prevent her companions from hurting themselves? The ability says that the distraction of combat negates the use of the ability, but I'm not sure self-harm and friendly grappling count as combat? So I'd like your ruling before she proceeds. Thanks! Otherwise I'm wondering if the distraction song would work? It says it works for characters affected by non-instantaneous illusion (patterns)...?
electricjokecascade RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 16 |
I'm going to say no, unfortunately, due to the fact that they are indeed wielding weapons and grappling. That counts as the beginning of combat to me.
As for the distraction song, you can definitely try it, and that's a good guess as to how to solve the situation. However I won't say whether or not it will work.

electricjokecascade RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 16 |
You're grappled. You either roll to break the grapple, or attack directly with a negative.
Here's the relevant text:
A grappled creature is restrained by a creature, trap, or effect. Grappled creatures cannot move and take a –4 penalty to Dexterity. A grappled creature takes a –2 penalty on all attack rolls and combat maneuver checks, except those made to grapple or escape a grapple. In addition, grappled creatures can take no action that requires two hands to perform. A grappled character who attempts to cast a spell or use a spell-like ability must make a concentration check (DC 10 + grappler's CMB + spell level), or lose the spell. Grappled creatures cannot make attacks of opportunity.
A grappled creature cannot use Stealth to hide from the creature grappling it, even if a special ability, such as hide in plain sight, would normally allow it to do so. If a grappled creature becomes invisible, through a spell or other ability, it gains a +2 circumstance bonus on its CMD to avoid being grappled, but receives no other benefit.
Casting Spells while Grappled/Grappling: The only spells which can be cast while grappling or pinned are those without somatic components and whose material components (if any) you have in hand. Even so, you must make a concentration check (DC 10 + the grappler's CMB + the level of the spell you're casting) or lose the spell.

I want to be free: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13...I'm guessing that's not going to be succesfull.

I did have alot of fun, but now Sargon needs a good nights rest
Guys, apologies as life continues to be hectic. Had friends visit from out of town this weekend. Tomorrow should go back to normal. Thanks for your patience.
Don't worry, It's a holiday weekend and I don't see myself escaping Dragox anytime in the near future
