Back Story:
Beauty… A blessing or a curse? Reyondelee Irbrandir understands that it is both, and neither. When she was young, a toddler, and she was the only reminder to her father of his dead wife, it was a blessing. He doted on her then. When she was older, a teen flowering, it was a curse. Her father saw too much of her dead mother in her then, and missing her caused him terrible heartache. He despised her then, and so he used her beauty. Used it as a distraction for the crowds he performed in, so he could steal, used her as a tool to set up business with innkeepers and chamberlains. Then he used her as his bargaining chip to finally gain the favor of a rich patron. That night, as Lord Estlethwait lay atop her unconscious, bloated and sweating, she hated her beauty, and she hated her father for his weakness, and his inability to adapt. So it was that her life of adventure began. It wasn’t hard for her to steal money, weapons, jewels; her father had taught her enough about that to make her more than adept. It wasn’t hard for her to find a place to stay, her beauty, her voice, her dance, her music, all won her favor and friendship wherever she went, not to mention as much coin as any woman needed. Beauty then became her blessing again for it afforded her a way to live. Yet even then it was still a curse. Unwanted male attention meant, at first, it wasn’t easy to defend herself. So she’d fallen in with a clan of gypsies for protection. Her matron amongst the gypsies, Deanya Irbrandir, a fortune teller, was the one that taught her how to use a whip. She had been enthralled with Deanya’s use of the tool. In Deanya’s hands it was like a living snake, an extension of her arm. It was a weapon, yes, but Deanya taught her to use it as so much more. Yet even with all these adventures, she still felt empty. She still felt like something was missing. Until one evening when some of the young men amongst the clan discovered a long forgotten cave amongst the hills. It wasn’t anything mind-blowing, but within its few ancient chambers, within its carved walls, amongst ancient runes she longed to understand, and dusty tomes, she longed to read, Reyondelee found her soul. Secrets. Her father once said, “the heart of every woman is a trove of secrets.” She thought he’d said it because his life was filled with meaningless relationships, flings, affairs, secret rendezvous, but never love, never except for her mother. She realized, there in that cave, that perhaps her father had been wiser than she thought, perhaps even wiser than he’d even known.

Now Reyondelee searches all the world for secrets. Secrets of men’s hearts. Secrets of the universe. Secrets of the gods. It is these secrets that she runs to find even now. Somewhere in the Storval Plateau whispers are spreading of an ancient tomb, a crypt full of the knowledge of a once powerful cult of sorcerers. So Reyondelee seeks more secrets, and seeks to make proud the only mother she’s ever known. The mother that told her once the key to power over anyone, or anything, is “to know more than they do.”
