Carduus the Bemourned |

ROUND 4 / Initiative 5 (Delaying)
I'm too far from Beylinda and blocked from moving closer - this Taryn fella better drop that forged soon or else it may be too late for me to help her!
Carduus will delay his action in the hopes that the combat shifts and allows him to advance within 30 feet of Beylinda.

the Dragon Between |

Initiative Order - Round 4
3rd & 5th - Caelan (you can toss that axe at the warforged if you wish) & Gauntlet - GO!
6th - Foe 1
Delay - Carduus
Erix, Viorr, Ama. Any of you can heal the young Otyugh if you have appropriate spells, potions, or items.
---
The Valve Clusters
The Otyugh begin to move through the sewer, "We shall aid your allies but I hope nothing..." The young Otyugh surfaces, badly injured but still alive, "Daddy. Mommy. I'm hurt!" The two larger specimens pause one states, "A misunderstanding... aid my son if this was just a misunderstanding. Please".
---
The Stairs
Rission looks up at you Gauntlet, "I'll be fine. I just need a moment, please help my cousin!"

the Dragon Between |

Caelan's axe strikes the wall and produces some brief sparks but does not contact any of the warforged marauders.

Gauntlet of Sharn |

Standard action used to create a Mindblade. Updated map.
Hearing the man's plea, Gauntlet turns and rushes up the stairs as fast as his 675 lbs can go. Trying to clear his path, he relies on his military training to help keep his momentum!
"Make a HOLE!"

The Stairs
Taryn and Carduus and Caelan hear Gauntlwet charge up the stairs towards them exclaiming, "Make a hole!"
It is up to each individual if they wish to take a 5' step to allow the Warforged to barrel at the nearest foe! If you do not Gauntlet's charge next round is delayed. Taryn, you act first next round so you could attack and then take a 5' step to the side to allow him to pass you.
Meanwhile, Beylinda's primary foe slices at her again
but she shifts her position and the blade misses!
Carduus Delay action - take it or skip it?
Initiative Order - Round 5
1st - Viorr & Beylinda
2nd - Foe 3
3rd - Caelan, Dharakk (DMPC), Taryn, Pink-Eye
4th - Foe 2
5th - Erix, Gauntlet, Ama
6th - Foe 1, Carduus, Rission (DMPC) & Otyugh

Carduus the Bemourned |

I'll keep delaying into Round 5; I believe that as long as I continue to delay (ie don't act) I can choose to go after any intitiative step is completed: Link to Delay. I'm basically waiting to act until I have the opportunity to move up and heal Beylinda, which I can't do until the way is clear of enemies for me to approach within 30' of her.

So...no 5ft step for me then?

Taryn d'Lyrandar |

"That's what I said thirty seconds ago," Taryn calls back with some aggravation, "but now that one of our number charged into an ambush we either fight up here or abandon her to death..."

Carduus the Bemourned |

If Taryn doesn't drop his opponent on his next action and he takes the 5' step, then Carduus will stop delaying and act, taking a 5' step to clear the way for Gauntlet.
If Taryn does drop his opponent, Carduus will stop delaying and act, moving up to within 30' of Beylinda and channeling (excluding the enemies he is aware of.)

Beylinda Chumana |

Round 5
Indeed beylinda just slipped trough the movement of the blade and made her riposte. She was going all in as she had no choice with an opponent in her back as she looked to the new guy, who seems far more dangerous. She would deal with him later

Beylinda grits her teeth through the pain of the strikes from the new assailant and pours her arcane energy into striking down her initial foe. The mace smacks the armor with a loud ringing thud. The metallic body of the warforged foe shakes from the electrical discharge and falls back clanking loudly on the stairs. Finally, one of the warforged is down!
Taryn's foe turns in a fury swinging the battle axe wildly, as the cloak splays open he sees that this warforged body type seems more feminine in design. "Her" grunt of fury is unintelligible...
though the cut is wild it hits the mark and Taryn is struck by the force of the axe. Taryn take 10 damage!

Caelan throws another axe and the awkward angle along with the tight space causes his throw to miss once again.
Both he and Taryn take steps backwards on the stairs along with Carduus whose anxiety is ratcheted up from the danger that Beylinda has placed herself in!
Though Beylinda has brought low one Warforged a second right at her back takes the opportunity to strike!
The Gods or Fate are with Beylinda as once again a foe misses a clean opportunity to strike her down.

Carduus still on delay from round 4...
3rd - Pink-Eye
5th - Erix, Gauntlet, Ama
6th - Carduus, Rission (DMPC) & Otyugh

Gauntlet of Sharn |

OK, according to Carduus, he will move the 5 feet for me to pass, since Taryn did NOT take out his opponent. This should leave me space to move by everyone on the stairs. Correct? My limit is 20 speed however and double that is only 40 for a charge attack...is that enough to reach the closest enemy this round? Or (at worst) is a single move close enough for me to get within 30 feet of the enemy to toss a spell at it? Or am I SOL this round? Please place me on the map where I can get and let me know my options ASAP.
Gauntlet continues his tireless charge up the stone stairs, echoing and sounding something like the heavy crashes of stone on stone from an approaching avalanche!
*CLOMP!-CLOMP!-CLOMP!*

You JUST had enough movement to make it, make an attack roll! This would be considered a Charge Attack - +2 to attack and -2 to AC until the next round.

Gauntlet of Sharn |

Gauntlet rushes up the stairs thrusting for the enemy warforged with as much fury as he can muster!
"Slayers! Assassins! CURS!"
+1 Mindblade (Shortsword) with charge!: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 3 + 2 = 7

Temp Hero Point +1d6: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Maybe not a total fiasco then... =/

Gauntlet nearly trips as he runs up the stairs, somehow though he manages to catch his footing and propel himself and his mindblade towards the warforged just enough to run it down the length of the opponents thigh. The warforged foe gasps and collapses!
Friggin -2 to AC from raging... However, you cannot 5' step after a charge so you do block Carduus' way so he is just out of range to Channel energy and assist Beylinda the Incredibly Lucky.

Allowing you to squeeze to let Gauntlet by.

the Dragon Between |

Let's assume for a moment that Erix and Ama delay. Carduus, what do you do?
In the sewer the Otyugh continue to move towards the stairs with purpose.

Carduus the Bemourned |

ROUND 5 / Init 3rd
Damn, didn't notice how bad off the hammer elf was - can't get within reach! Best to get out of this other 'forged's way and hope he clears the stairs, then might be I can hit everybody with a soulburst!
Carduus's will just take the 5' step to let Gauntlet through, resetting his initiative to Taryn's.

I am moving us to the top of Round 6 as if Beylinda can defeat the Warforged we are out of combat and the group can re-group! Further note that if Gauntlet takes a 5' step to the side he will allow Taryn to get a strike at the Warforged foe's back and allow Carduus to follow up and Channel Energy to heal both Taryn and Beylinda... This combat thus is nearly at an end unless the PCs roll as poorly as my NPCs have rolled in this combat.

Gauntlet of Sharn |

Gauntlet is more than willing to step back (5') and let anybody through now that he's actually managed to do something semi-useful. If he's within 30 feet of the enemy warforged he may even be able to use a spell on it!

Beylinda Chumana |

Erix looks into the gloom farther down in the sewer, getting his boots and pants wet yet again. He does not see or hear anything of note. Likely the presence of the Otyugh dissuades all but the heartiest of interlopers from exploring or at least remaining if they are confronted.

Taryn d'Lyrandar |

The glow from Taryn's dragonmark subsides and he takes a deep breath, apparently winded by the exertion. With a trickle of blood running down from his wound he remains safely behind Gauntlet.

Carduus the Bemourned |

ROUND 6
Seeing his opportunity, Carduus quickly advances up the stairs past his near allies and stops once he's relatively close to Beylinda, Taryn, and Caelan; he then lets slip a burst of his life energy, willing it to avoid the remaining warforged enemy.
Channel to heal: 1d6 ⇒ 2 hit points in 30' burst, namely to Beylinda, Taryn, and Caelan, while excluding the warforged enemy that he's aware of.

the Dragon Between |

Caelan, looks like it is up to you to charge up those stairs and take this warforged down! I'll assume everyone cleared a path just enough for you to do so...

Caelan d'Orien |

Hefting his sword, Caelan says, "Time to give it my best shot!" With that, he rushes up the stairs toward the enemy.
Longsword attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16

Sparks fly from the back of the warforged as Caelan's sword strikes true. The foe cries out, "Arrgghhhh" and slumps against the wall ceasing to move.
Combat Over!
In the area of the cluster valves you hear the cry of anguish from a combatant whose voice sounds not quite human.

Caelan d'Orien |

Caelan pauses as his enemy collapses in a single strike, breathing hard. When he hears the cry of anguish from below his hand tightens on his sword hilt, then he brings his shield down (between himself and his fallen foe) as he glances back over his shoulder down the stairs. "What's happening back there?" he shouts, then goes back to looking at the fallen warforged enemy.
After scrutinizing the warforged for a few seconds, he says, "Gauntlet, can you take a look here? See if this one has any noteworthy or identifying marks?"

Sorry for the confusion, I meant the cluster valve people heard the warforged cry out when he went down... though with echoes you may have heard it behind you.

Carduus the Bemourned |

With the last warforged down, Carduus relaxes somewhat and glances quickly at all his allies on the stairs. We're still in pretty rough shape up here. Making sure his three wounded allies are close, he once again lets loose with a healing burst.
Channel to heal: 1d6 ⇒ 4 hit points to Beylinda, Caelan, and Taryn; excluding all enemy warforged.
That's a total of 6 hit points healed for the three of them at end of combat (Round 6 & immediately following.)

the Dragon Between |

Risson stands up and calls up the stairs, "Taryn you all right?"
The Otyugh taps Rission on the shoulder, "All is well then?"
Rission shivers at having been touched but calls up, "We have company down here guys, umm... I am not sure what to call them but uh well at least they aren't hostile".
The other Otyugh embraces the smaller one and turns to Pink-Eye, "Thank you. Have you any more healing, it appears the misunderstanding caused my son a bit more damage then I would have originally thought..." The younger Otyugh looks pretty beat up even after your assistance, the thing probably would have died with one more blow.
Gauntlet, you stop and look at Haqueton, it seems the Makers have called his soul back to wherever your souls come from...

Gauntlet of Sharn |

Checking over his 'brother' to be sure, Gauntlet shakes his head.
"Haqueton is gone my friends. No more spark. These other two however..."
Gauntlet moves to check the bodies of the enemy warforged. Anything of value or noteworthy to tell us where they came from or who sent them?
