Ok, so Uriel pointed out that the circumstance bonus I gave to the blue bandit may not be appropriate since you could still hear him even if you can't see him, so I will remove that bonus. So, Blue's stealth comes out to 21 instead of 31. But none of you know where he went to.

Maybe... but to be fair, we knew where he was, and there really aren't many places he could have gone. Only one, really.

While he was on the floor in the room, he was in line-of-sight and didn't have concealment. Since you can't use stealth without concealment, he could only use stealth after he crawled under the bed. It's true that now that he has concealment he can make a stealth roll, but we already saw where he went. Now that he's under there, his stealth roll will make it impossible for us to actually detect him... but we don't need to detect him because we saw him move before and no matter how quiet he is now we already know where he went. Unless of course he has a scroll of dimension door or there's a trapdoor under the bed... but you get my drift.

"All right, you over there," Gansu calls out to the hidden man. "You planning to hide forever?"

Gansu gives the man a moment for that to sink in. "If you want to die for your god, we can always oblige you. But some friends of yours across the hall surrendered, and we locked them up in that little jail of yours. If you throw out your weapons you can join them."

Intimidate (untrained): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21

Gansu ducks down and looks under the beds.

Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16

Battle Grid ***** Treasure Chart ***** Emerald Spire Skills

You CAN use Stealth without concealment. I am using the 'Create a Diversion to Hide' section of Stealth, except that instead of using Bluff to create said diversion, you were all diverted by the sudden attack from the WC (# 9) so a diversion was actually created (no bluff needed). Every single one of you (in the room) turned and focused your attention on that which means you were diverted from focusing on or looking at blue bandit. So that is when he made his stealth check. Nobody matched that stealth check, SO NO ONE SAW HIM GO INTO HIDING. Gansu does NOT know where the blue bandit went to. So I am going to rule the actions you posted did not happen either. Obviously you can still spend your round to take other actions as appropriate.

If you wish to create a house rule for this, you are welcome to. As a GM I use them a lot. But understand that this is what you are doing, so please don't get angry if I seem surprised by this ruling.

Rules:
Normally the surprise appearance of a new combatant does not cause you to lose sight of the other combatants... actually the way the rules work it is kind of the opposite: if you weren't aware of the new attacker then you are flat-footed to that attacker until it is your turn, so you effectively remain mostly unaware of him until you act. But you are not flat-footed to anyone else, meaning you still see everyone else clearly.

The things that the distraction rules generally require are 1: an action to make the distraction check (normally a standard action, but I might let someone with the Improved Feint feat do so as a move action for example), and 2: an opposed roll. Gansu's Sense Motive is only +4, which is not that great. Aldy is probably the only one in the party with a good Sense Motive, and he's not even in the room.

Normally in a situation like this where there is something useful going on the guy making the distraction action would get a circumstance bonus to their check. How much of a bonus depends on how effective circumstance. The normal bonus is +2, but +5 could be given for something really good. If all the guy did was crawl under the bed, then he would still have had a standard action on his to make this bluff check, and since they are rogues of Norgorber they probably lie a lot and their bluff should be pretty decent. Which means that if he made a bluff check to take advantage of the distraction, he probably would succeed, especially if he is getting a circumstance bonus for his friend appearing.

At the same time, the point about being able to deduce where he is without seeing him is also valid. If he stood up and then moved we'd be able to see him by just looking around, and stealth wouldn't help him any more because he's in the open again. Since it's a move action to open a door, if he stood up and then moved he would still be in the room (not having a remaining action to open the door), unless he made it out into the hallway (presumably we left that door open) in which case Aldy would spot him.

Which means he's still probably prone on the floor. While on the floor he can only move 10 feet in one round (two crawl actions). This really limits the amount of distance he could go, and he could either be:

* Under the bed in the far corner,
* Under the bed next to red, or,
* Under the small table

That's not a lot of options. And the bed next to red is only accessible if he gets two move actions, which he wouldn't if he used on the distract action. So it's not too hard to figure out at least roughly where he is.

--------------------------------------------

Ganus's actions in his last post don't actually require him to know where the bandit is; just that he thinks the bandit is hiding. If it turns out the bandit is no longer in the room or cannot hear him for some reason, then the intimidate action just won't do anything.

So I'll make those actions anyway.

I'm gettin tired of having players argue with my decisions. especially over such a trivial matter as a low level minion who is no threat to the group. The bandit MIGHT get one sneak attack. Maybe. And then he's dead because the two fighters converge and do massive damage like they are supposed to do. So why is it such a big problem? Can't you just accept what I say and move on? If it were a big boss fight, and might mean a player death, or a TPK, sure then you should discuss it politely. But over a lowly minion that will most likely die in one round from when he is found?

OR MAYBE I SHOULD JUST SEE IF SOMEONE ELSE WANTS TO RUN THIS GAME? What do the rest of the players think?

That said, I am going to take the weekend off from this game, and I'll see how I feel on Monday about this. My apologies to the rest of the players who are being made to suffer over this, but I just need to step away for a bit before I lose my calm. AGAIN. I shouldn't be having to step back a second time to recuperate from how this is making me feel.

Unable to detect the remaining bandit with his poor Perception check, Uriel has a moment of introspection in response to Aldhranhald’s question, ”We have a ‘usual’?”

I'm going to move on here. Since Gansu did not specify which option he was going for with his intimidate check (Coerce Opponent, Demoralize Opponent, and Influence Opponent’s Attitude) and 2 of those 3 take more than 1 standard action anyways, and he is not available apparently to tell me which, I am going to rule it did not succeed. Now for another Stealth check.

My apologies folks. It has been a BUSY weekend. I did notice that, apparently when the rooms somehow got uncovered, that apparently I covered up the door numbering labels when I covered the rooms back up. They should all be back in place now. *** I will bot a channel for Gansu. How long will we wait for him to reappear?

Amongst the bandits you find the usual, leather armor, short sword, MW light crossbows, Cure light potions = 1per bandit. And a total of 50 Gp.

Gansu says, "Wait a moment while I give everyone some healing please." as he says a prayer and extends his hands outwards.

Channel positive healing: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 6) = 7 Yep, that's balanced!

Everybody heals 7 points.

Uriel opens the door to see:

This room is choked with tables stacked with stills and alembics, flasks, bubbling vats, and crockery. The eastern wall is fitted with stout wine racks filled with bottles of various sizes and shapes.

This is clearly some sort of Apothecary's or alchemist' lab. There appears to be no one in the room.

Do you wish to take a look around? Or leave the room for the time being? From the doorway you can see every flask / vial / bottle has a label on it.

Taking a brief survey of the alchemy laboratory, causes Aldhranhald to smile with uncontainable glee. "Now this," he points to all the lab equipment and supplies, "is right up my proverbial alley. Sorry all, but you'll have to give me more than a few minutes here." He then carefully, oh so carefully, inspects everything, taking as much time as necessary to gather as much information as he can about what possible experiments this lab's user was in the habit of performing, or what concoctions he/she may have made frequently. He'll tally up a list of all the ingredients and equipment and include it in his map notes for this chamber.

Just for clarity's sake - I'm not sure how you go about reading previous posts, but the door had already been opened, and a description of the room given when you made your post?!? If you wish to change your actions, feel free to do so. *** Aldhranhald, sorry but I didn't see your post before leaving home, so I'll have to give you the results after I get home. I have no issue with using inspiration for this - not that it really helped! Sorry!

My mistake. I got mixed up thinking that was a Gansu post and missed the GM bit. I don't want to change my action, if I did it would just result in me detecting nothing before I went into the room.

Aldhranhald finds: 11 bottles of wine, five bottles of brandy, eight bottles of vinegar, 14 vials of synesthetic agent (What is used in the statues); eight vials of antidote for synesthetic agent, three vials of acid, four vials of Small centipede venom, three potions of cure light wounds and two vials of Bull's Strength. You do notice the labels on the Bull's Strength potions are underlined, while non of the others are, but seeing as these are the only things to imbibe to actually improve your skills, this may well be the reason for the emphasis, unless there is some other reason?

It seems that this Apothecary was a little more into his drinks than he was his alchemy. (Which might explain all the animals in the previous den having weird colors and smells and strange effects to them?)

Aldhranhald estimates the value of the entire lot to be about 200 Gp.

Sorry, the module gives no individual prices, just says that is the price for the re-agents? Any more knowledgeable answers out there?

Next room #? - Unless there is something else anyone wishes to do here?

With the Handy Haversack, we should be able to take all that, I think. It is likely that there are "200 gp worth of reagents" in addition to the specific items listed, as those reagents can be used to craft alchemical items. The Bull's Strength potions alone are worth more than 200 gp, so that is likely the intent...

Chuckling softly to himself as Aldhranhald loses himself in exploring the alchemist's lab, Uriel comments with a good-natured smile, "Come now, Aldhranhald, let's keep moving--those bandits aren't going to wait all day."

When Aldhranhald is done with this room and has distributed the items as he sees fit, Uriel will suggest we form up the door number 8. Same process as before, with the perceptive ones checking it out, then Uriel going defensive, opening the door, and 5-foot step in.

Uriel Sense Motive: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

Seeing Aldhranhald picking up a potion labeled “Bull’s Strength”, Uriel remarks,”Perhaps I should take one of those in case we get into a situation where great strength is needed.”

Trusting a bandit to properly label potions—check. Trusting the special underline on some of the potions to not mean anything—double check. Tanking a Sense Motive check to avoid taking it all at face value—triple check...I wonder what will happen if he actually drinks the potion?

"Uhhh... I'm not sure I trust those. Given what we've seen already, I strongly, pun intended, doubt that those are actually what they say they are. The underlining gives me pause to consider. Perhaps you want to just taste a drop first, and see what happens?" Aldhranhald says, not trusting whomever it was that was using this laboratory. Not trusting it so much that he, himself, is unwilling to even taste the potion. Better it goes unused, or to sell it to some hapless merchant for a profit, than to take it and suffer some crazed maniacally devised ill effects. The last thing the party needs now is for someone to suddenly become horny.

I'm going to copy a LOT of what Mended said for his character generation. Giving him credit where it is due.

Character creation: Max HP (at 1st level, afterwards roll & re-roll 1's one time), Max GP per class.

We are starting at level 1.

Stat Generation:
2d6+6, roll three sets of six, pick your favorite set.
I’m going to put an 18 limit on all stats BEFORE racial bonuses. So, yes, you could potentially start with a 20 in a stat, and I’m prepared to adjust the game accordingly.

Alignment:
As previously mentioned, no evil alignments will be accepted. Anything on the Chaotic/Neutral ~ Good spectrum is fine.

Races:
All - pending my approval after reading the info you send me in a link.

Classes:
There are just a few restrictions here. Obviously, because of alignment restrictions, no Anti-paladins allowed. I’m also going to block the gunslinger, because: no guns. In addition I’m going to restrict the unchained classes. I’m not familiar enough with those unchained rules to mess with it at this time. Everything else is fair game. I’m also fine with any archetypes. Again, everything (and I do mean EVERYTHING!) is pending my approval once I read the info in the link you send me.

Two Traits and one Drawback:
I LOVE the Traits and Drawbacks for the purposes of creating a fully fleshed out character at inception. GM favor points (these are invisible and arbitrary “points” that may or may not amount to any real in game benefit) available for anyone that uses the background generation rules to gain access to story traits! If you would prefer not to have your character have a Drawback, then you may instead choose to select only one Trait. Those that select two Traits, must also choose a drawback. Also! You may only select one trait that augments starting character wealth.

Posting Your Character:
Ultimately what I’d like to see is a complete character sheet for your character with an appropriate alias/avatar. In addition, I will require you use the Paizo: Race, Class, and Gender boxes to their full potential. In other words make tag lines just like you did for Mended's campaign & include a link to your character sheet in that tag line please.

I do believe that covers everything. If I remember something, or somebody points out something I missed (which happens pretty often actually) I’ll adjust the rules as necessary. As always, if at any time you have questions, don’t hesitate to ask, either here in the discussion thread, or just PM me. Looking forward to some great characters!

To make it a little easier, you should be able to copy these arrays from here, you'll just need to add the beginning bracket if I have this right.

This all looks fine Brother Guiness! Just to let you know, instead of making two separate posts for that GP roll for example, you do have up to an hour to edit a post, so you could have clicked on edit (upper right of the post) and just added your re-roll there. But it's no big deal at all! I only mention it to try to help you learn. :)

But it's no big deal at all! I only mention it to try to help you learn. :)

Thanks, Stormstrider. I have worked up the character and used the Ultimate Campaign to make the background. I am not sure where to post the character.

To be honest I'm not sure either!?!? Hahahaha! Go ahead and put it under the discussion tab please.

Just in case...

Stat 3: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 6) + 6 = 17
Stat 4: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 1) + 6 = 10

Stat 6: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 1) + 6 = 11

So, I have guaranteed that BG will survive, given that I rolled a killer stat array in the second set (if rather lopsided). ;o)

I raise a pint to you, Brother Guiness, surviving against all odds or dying with honor, you are a blast to play!

Oh well, that didn't quite work as I had hoped. Well, let's see what kind of d10's I can roll for 2nd and 3rd level hp...

2nd level hp: 1d10 ⇒ 7
reroll if 1: 1d10 ⇒ 4
3rd level hp: 1d10 ⇒ 10
reroll if 1: 1d10 ⇒ 4

Nice! The spirit of BG looks over the hardiness of his replacement!

Silver Crusade

Fourth level hp:

Uriel level 4 HD: 1d10 ⇒ 9
refill if a 1: 1d10 ⇒ 4
