When Leo's turn comes up rolls a 19 for his death save

Commander Caine - bloodied and prone
Cronin
Fairwind
Leo
Dominated Brujo

Taking a guess on what Caine might do in this situation.

Ignoring his wounds and with total disregard for his own safety and the blue flame licking up Brujo's torso, the Commander grabs his companion.

"Snap out of it man! Now!"

Strength check v Brujo's Reflex. Brujo is grabbed. He can attempt to break free, but since he's still dominated and dazed, that will be all he can do. Alternatively, he can, by the rules, attack instead. If anyone has clarification to offer, I'd be grateful.

Grab attempt on Brujo (1d20 3=23)

MAP

Cronin is up
Leo - has made save
Dominated Brujo
Barthus

EDIT! Rad, if you're online, make whatever changes you want to this scenario.

I approve, Rev.

M Goliath Cleric 14 / Storm Speaker / Druid

Cronin attempts his Sacred Flame attack once more, hoping Selune will grace Brujo with freedom from this evil's will.

Sacred Flame vs. B's Ref (1d20+6=18, 1d6+6=10) Radiant damage, of course. If it hits, Brujo gets a save.

Barthus flinches as Cronin directs the light of his goddess full into the vampire's chest.

"Such brave companions. So very tender and caring of each other." The tone sharpens briefly and then softens again, becoming warm and seductive.

"The shifter priest can wait. Demolish this nuisance, my spellscarred friend. Demolish him and you will be a worthy addition to my ranks. Join me and taste in full the joys of eternity. Think of the centuries of time we can fill together."

Brujo, make a save before you act. If you make it, then you're dazed, but no longer dominated. If you fail, take your turn as usual.
Barthus
Snaggletooth - who won't be doing anything except providing local colour as he's out of daggers
Perigia

Save 1d20=8. Actions coming.

"Yes, my Lord. The master has made his wishes known. You are nuisances and must be dealt with" Brujo brings the blade down, attempting to cleave into Caine's shoulder.

Greenflame blade on Caine 1d20+8=18 vs AC;Damage 1d8+5=11 cold/fire damage, Fairwind and Leo each take 2 fire damage.

Save 1d20=9

PLEASE NOTE EXTREME EDITING DUE TO DISCUSSION OF ELADRIN WILL SAVES BELOW

Brujo glows eerily as his scar flares uncontrollably, enveloping his sword arm and half his face. Fighting through the vampire's mental control, he slumps dazed into Caine's arms. First save courtesy of Cronin ends domination. Brujo is now merely dazed.

Barthus's stretches his arms luxuriously.

"You were giving me so much pleasure child, such exquisite joy to see you cut down the unworthy. You were born to follow my path." His tone is entirely seductive now, almost purring with gratification as he looks on the slaughter he has wrought.

"Priest, my pardon. I have most discourteously ignored you for too long. Your moment will shortly arrive. First, allow me to remind you all that you stand in my world now. On my ground even."

The mace slams with unnerving speed at Fairwind as he speaks, injuring her further. With his other hand he raises his holy symbol and utters words of unknown origin but definitively evil intent. The air chills and shimmers with necrotic energy.

"Welcome to my world, may your stay be long and your footsteps turn from me but slowly."

For all his confident words, you cannot help seeing that Barthus is noticeably weaker. The worst of the wounds you have inflicted are still in place and the blisters raised by the divine power sent against him are rising, ruining his pristine appearance.

Lifedrinker mace attack v Fairwind (1d20 12=23, 1d8 4=5). 5hp damage to Fairwind

Recharge roll for desecrated ground (1d6=6)

Desecrated Ground (v Fort) against Brujo, Caine and Fairwind (1d20 9=14, 1d20 9=24, 1d20 9=18). That hits all of you, so you are all slowed.

Necrotic damage from Desecrated Ground (1d6 3=4). 4hp damage to Brujo, Caine and Fairwind.

Damage totals for this round:
Caine:4 from the ground, slowed
Fairwind:5hp from Barthus, 4 from the ground (9 total), bloodied, slowed
Brujo: 4hp from the ground, slowed,

MAP

Snaggletooth is up
Perigia, post at will, Snaggle is weaponless.

Spoiler:
For those of you who may have missed this development on the discussion thread, Cale Noor is going to be playing Snaggletooth.

Female Genasi Firesoul Wizard 7

"This looks very, very bad," Perigia says to Snaggletooth as she runs up next to him. Move to J10 Waving her hands in complex patterns, she casts Magic Missile at the vampire. 1d20+5=24 vs Ref. 2d4+4=11 force damage.

The genasi's globe of force strikes hard and Barthus winces at the impact. He is no longer capable of ignoring the damage being inflicted on him.

MAP

Snaggletooth - whenever you like
Caine
Cronin
Fairwind

Rev a question. Would Barthus domination be a charm effect? I ask because I realized that Brujo gets a +5 bonus against charm effects.

F Half-elf Ranger 4 (multiclass - Rogue)

"Snap out of it, spell-boy!"

EDIT EDIT EDIT

Ack. It is. Of course, you're eladrin aren't you?

Right. You'd have broken the domination with Cronin's Sacred Flame bonus save at the start of your turn.

Therefore, Caine does not take 11 damage from you, and neither Fairwind nor Leo get the 2hp collateral. Otherwise it's as we were.

Male Half Elf Paladin 6th

Rolled a 14 for Leo's death save... OH Never mind

Clarification: It's not +5 to Will defense, it's +5 to his saves. So the domination still happens, it's just easier to shake off.

It's OK. Not as major a catastrophe as I'd originally feared. Caine's in better shape than he was, Leo is still dying, Fairwind is still bloodied but not as badly and I'm an idiot.

After checking the phb, Cronin is right. The it only applies to saves, so still dominated. But have a beeter chance at the save.

Male Kobold Rogue 6

"Fire-lady have a dagger for Snaggletooth to use, maybe?" Snaggletooth sheepishly grins with a full mouth of teeth. "All out of things to throw now."

Rev

Spoiler:
what is the rule on light thrown weapons? any chance of picking one up that fairwind or snaggletooth missed with?

On my turn

Spoiler:
Caine attempts to move away from the desecrated ground. He slashes B as he does so.

Guarding Strike Attack 1d20+8=27, Damage 2d10+5=11

+3 Power Bonus to AC to Brujo.

Snaggletooth scrabbles frantically on the ground for another weapon. Commander Caine fixes Barthus with the stern gaze of doom. Releasing the moon elf from his supporting grip, his presence inspires Brujo and the swordmage feels better able to defend himself. Caine's greatsword swings down hard and the warlord steps deliberately out of the zone of desecrated ground, symbolically rejecting the vampire and all his works.

Barthus's eyes go red with rage and his fingers begin to curl alarmingly. The long dead veins beneath his skin fill and throb, as he tries desperately to heal himself.

Snaggletooth

Spoiler:

It's a case by case basis. In this instance, you can spend a standard action looking for weapons, a move to pick it up and a minor to stow it. You've thrown 5 daggers, three in the area of the throne, one at the northern end of the room and one right where you're standing. You can have that one back.

MAP

Brujo - dazed (save ends). Note that you have a +3 to AC from Caine.

He quickly snatches it and points it at the vampire.

F Half-elf Ranger 4 (multiclass - Rogue)

Fairwind grunts, "Well lil buddy, leastways he ain't got a hold on you yet."

M Goliath Cleric 14 / Storm Speaker / Druid

Desperately torn, Cronin leaves off the assault on Barthus for a moment, and attempts to aid Leo, hoping they will not both regret his decision.

First Aid (1d20+10=12) Ugh. If Leo still had a second wind, Cronin succeeded in triggering that. If not, he failed to stabilize Leo.

Female Genasi Firesoul Wizard 7

"Cronin, how do we kill this guy," Perigia calls to the priest.

M Goliath Cleric 14 / Storm Speaker / Druid

Religion (1d20+6=26)

Cronin resorts to a mixture of invocations to Selune and battlefield healing, literally shaking life back into Leo. Whatever it is he does, it works. Although prone, the paladin is restored to the field of war.

I've back checked and can't see that Leo has used his second wind. That being so, he's back amongst you and at 11hp.

Cronin

Spoiler:

You know most of what there is to know. Vampires are vulnerable to radiant damage, but can regenerate as well. You do remember some old lore that states that vampires have a coffin which they must return to in order to fully heal for six hours in every 24. If you can find and destroy that, Barthus will be in dire straits. Even if he survives the battle, he will be unable to restore himself to full power.

F Half-elf Ranger 4 (multiclass - Rogue)

Twin Strike - 27 vs AC w/ longsword; 18 vs AC with shortsword. 3 damage from longsword and 3 Quarry damage. Total 6. Shift to J5.

Fairwind slashes at Barthus and then jumps back trying to avoid further attacks from the incensed vampire.

Ignoring the pain from the evil ground she stands on, Fairwind's longsword strikes home before she leaps deftly out of the way.

Desecrated Ground damage (1d6+3=4). 4hp damage to Fairwind. What is your status?

MAP

Leo is up. He's prone, but thanks to Cronin, otherwise fully functional on 11hp.

Daze save 1d20=14

"I must thank you, my Lord", Brujo raises his head and turns to Brathus.

"You taught me something very valuable. Without you I could have never done this" Brujo arcs his sword up, sending an wave of blue flame at the vampire.

"I truly thank you"

Edit, yes I know this way cause an OA but it's ok

F Half-elf Ranger 4 (multiclass - Rogue)

6hp and 0 healing surges.

Fairwind, how have you managed 0 healing surges? You rested extensively after the wight and took a short rest after the creepers when you were wondering whether you could reconsecrate the alter. You should be able to take second wind at least unless something has gone very wrong.

Brujo, I'm sorry to spoil your party, but unless you are spending an action point, you can't do all that. The save v Daze comes at the end of your turn, not the beginning. The reason you got the immediate saves before was due to Cronin's Sacred Flame power.

Already took care of it. Unless we reached a milestone I wasn't aware of I spent my only action point some time ago.

Leo gets to his feet.

Just checking what else he can do at the moment I think he's still dazed so I assume he gets a save against that rolling a 12 so he should snap out of it by next round I believe

I think the dazed state ended when you went negative, but I'll check for you.

EDIT. He made the save v being dazed on the round he went negative. You can act.

Rev DM wrote:

Okay but because he used up his move all he can do is using lay on hands on Caine and allow him to spend a healing surge which costs Leo one of his healing surges

Leo briefly leans on Caine's shoulder with one hand.
"Go forth and smite this fiend!" Leo breaths as a brief glimmer of light spreads from him and throughout Caine before vanishing.

Leo uses up a healing surge and his only lay on hands for today and Caine regains hp equal to what he would have had he spent a healing surge himself

Leo ignores the worst of his wounds to tend to Commander Caine, while Brujo's unconscious unleashing of power bites hard into the vampire.

Barthus' mace slams with demonic speed into Brujo as the swordmage hurls blue fire at him.

The vampire's eyes blaze.

"I do not recall telling you your education was complete. You will stay. You will learn. All of you."

The mace slams down again.

OK. Barthus scored a crit on his OA against Brujo. The desecrated ground took off a further 7hp and Barthus used his one action to thump Brujo again.
OA on Brujo (1d20 12=32, 1d8 4=8). Crit. 12hp damage to Brujo
Necrotic damage from zone to Brujo (1d6 3=7). 7hp damage to Brujo.
Mace v Brujo (1d20 12=28, 1d8 4=11). 11hp to Brujo.

Total 30hp damage to Brujo, leaving him on 11hp if my numbers are right. On the upside, Brujo's own attack was a hit.

O.K. Let's see if this works. Let me know if I have messed this up. Snaggletooth uses his speed to work his way to a flanking position next to Barthus, across from Brujo at I4. (move action)I10-I9-I8-I7-J6-K5-J4. (minor action) shift into I4. (standard) Riposte Strike (+12 vs AC, 26, (if a hit) d4+3+2d8+3[for flanking CA],4+3+10+3 for 20hp damage)

Snaggletooth sees his opportunity and musters up his courage. "need to be sneaky to kill big, scary dead thing." he thinks to himself. Snaggletooth moves quickly into a flanking position and snarls at the vampire as he strikes. "Rowr!" As he connects, he leaves himself an opening if the monster should strike back.

Edited to reflect his brutual scoundrel bonus(+Str Mod) to Sneak Attack :)

Barthus' head snaps around as Snaggletooth finds reserves of courage from somewhere impossible and stabs him hard.

"Suddenly so brave? The folly of youth."

The vampire's eyes turn dark with blood as he absorbs yet another wound.

"You will learn your error. Sadly, that knowledge may prove fatal."

On my turn

Spoiler:
Rev, have Caine use inspiring word on Brujo.

Startled by Snaggletooth sidling into the line of fire, Perigia panics and her magic missile goes into a coffin, spilling earth on the floor.

Magic Missile (Ref) v Barthus (1d20 5=12, 2d4 4=9). Apologies Perigia - I tried.

Commander Caine reciprocates Leo's help and urges his fellow warrior. "Never give up! Never give in!".
Extra healing on Inspiring Word for Leo (1d6=6). Leo spends a healing surge and gets an extra 6hp (17 total, making him no longer bloodied).

Cronin realises that Fairwind is hiding the depth of her wounds. Invoking Selune's aid once more, he sends another blast of divine light at Barthus, need making his aim very sure.
Sacred Flame (Ref) at Barthus. Radiant damage. On hit 2 temp hp to ally of choice (Fairwind in this case). (1d20 6=22, 1d6 6=7). Fairwind gains 2 temp hp, putting her at 3hp for now.

Barthus raises his hands to ward of Cronin's attack, but to no avail. The divine light sears into him.

"Enough villain, Kelemvor wants a word!" Leo yells as his strength renewed he lunges towards the vampire.

Leo shifts to G-5

"Invigorating Smite!" Leo howls.

Invigorating Smite rolled an 18+8 for 26 versus the vampire's will inflicting 2d8+4 damage if it hits rolling 8+6+4 for 18pts of damage and any ally bloodied within 5 squares of him recovers 6hp

"This... this is more impressive."

Restored and envigorated, Leo brings his blade down hard on Barthus and you can finally see that the vampire cannot take much more. Caine, Fairwind and Brujo all find themselves able to draw on their inner resources to continue the fight.

No problem - hope you're feeling better.

The desecrated ground does its evil work again, even as Brujo steps through the Feywild to temporary safety.

Desecrated ground damage to Brujo (1d6 3=7). 7hp damage to Brujo.

Barthus allows the more disfiguring wounds a moment to heal and considers his position.

"Enough education for one morning my friends. Perhaps we shall dance again later."

With that he dissolves into mist and rises up the wall of the chamber.

Barthus takes mist form and flys upwards. He's insubstantial and now takes half damage (including any ongoing) from any attack that hits him. Leo and Snaggle both get OAs on him.
