Leo, where are you exactly?

MAP for ease of reference.

EDIT - if he's at the altar he must be within 5 squares of the curtain.

Heightened by tension and his horror at what has happened to the altar of his god, Leo's senses alert him to the presence of something behind the drapery. Somethings.

With that roll you can practically see through the wall :D

Tell me where you all are and roll init.

Note important edit above.

Sorry Leo moved from J-14 to K-13 before heading straight towards the altar going from K-13 to K-9 and then headed to J-5 so he could remove the raiments off the altar next round (unless something happens before then of course...).Rolled a 13+2+2 for 17 as he's in sight of the Commander for Initiative

"You better take cover Snaggletooth, we've got company and there's more than a couple..." Leo tells the kobold making sure the others can hear him too.

Surprise round due to Leo's imposing perception check. You may take one action each. You may NOT use an AP (you all have one). You do not yet know what you are attacking as whoever/whatever they are are behind the curtain.

M Goliath Cleric 14 / Storm Speaker / Druid

Cronin delays until after Leo.

F Half-elf Ranger 4 (multiclass - Rogue)

Move to E10.

Fairwind moves to investigate.

As this is a surprise round and I might not be able to post later on...

Leo whips off the raiments off of the altar and whatevers on it to the ground to clear the altar's surface.

"Come out servants of Shar, Kelemvor sent me to have a word with you on this act of desecration!" Leo divinely challenges those waiting behind the curtain.

Well only one of them at the moment! Oh and if there wasn't a cloth covering the altar dedicated to Shar he's just clear what he can with one arm (shield arm) so they're dashed to the ground away to the left so it s clear of anyone behind him.

I may be mistaken, but I have serious doubts that you can challenge someone you can't see

There is nothing specific about this in the PHB, but I'm with Cronin on this one. I don't think you can issue a divine challenge to an unseen enemy.

F Half-elf Ranger 4 (multiclass - Rogue)

All powers require line of sight to a visible target unless otherwise stated, I believe.

Okay will have to wait for them to introduce themselves next round then! (Wasn't sure myself thought I'd try since they'd should be able to hear Leo but that can wait for next round!)

Rev, I'm not feeling very well. Please DMNPC Caine. Thanks.

M Goliath Cleric 14 / Storm Speaker / Druid

Cronin casts Sanctuary on Leo. "Leo, you are protected!"

+5 to all of Leo's defenses through his next turn or until his next attack

Commander Caine wrote:

Of course. Sorry you're not well. It's just been one thing after another for you lately.

Caine strides up the room to provide cover for Cronin. Moved to G5

Snaggletooth furtively inches alongside Cronin. "I will help protect you." Moved to I7

I may not be avalible when my turn comes up so I'm posting now. Perigia will move to C13 and hope to catch anything coming out from behind the curtian in a crossfire.

I've moved Brujo to shift things along a little.

Ever impetuous, Brujo runs to the middle of the chapel. As he does so, a dagger flies out from the curtain and misses Commander Caine. You all see that this is a living version of the things you've been warned about. It's a creeper and it's not alone. Cronin's nightmare has just arrived.

Two more daggers follow, aimed at Leo and Cronin. All the weapons rattle on the floor. Snaggletooth eyes them eagerly.

Creepers are attacking at -2 because of the curtain. This works both ways as you are all at -2 to hit them until the curtain is removed.

Geleri Fairwind wrote:

Minor. It's extremely old and holding on by threads.

Fairwind, I believe you mean B2 rather than A2 and have moved you to that spot.

Fairwind strides to the curtain and yanks it swiftly to the ground. Three creepers are revealed in all their glory, shadowy figures, who crouch low, muttering indistinguishably at each other.

I cannot easily get rid of the curtain on the map, but please assume that neither it nor it's cover bonus exist any longer.

Commander Caine charges towards Creeper 2, bringing his greatsword round in a wide arc and just missing the creature. Charge v Creeper 2 (1d20 11=16, 1d10 4=5).

With a hiss, is ducks away, risking an opportunity attack from the warlord before stabbing viciously at him with a dagger.

Caine's OA on Creeper 2 (note that creeper is at 4 to AC for OAs while using Dark Step power) (1d20 9=10, 1d10 4=5). Caine's OA missed.

Creeper 2 against Caine (1d20 11=21, 1d4 4=8) + 1d6=2. 10hp damage to Caine.

Creepers have a Dark Step at will move power. They can move up to 4 squares and are at +4 to AC v any OAs made against them. If they end up adjacent to a target using this power, they have combat advantage. Creepers also do 1d6 extra damage against creatures they have combat advantage against.

Using the same trick, Creeper 1 circles around Fairwind and jabs at her.

Creeper 1 v Fairwind (1d20 11=31, 1d4 4=8, 1d6=3). Second crit I've rolled against one of your pcs today Fabes - I do apologise, but blame IC. 11hp to Fairwind. Added manually for both Caine and Fairwind.

Creeper 3 doesn't even bother to circle, it just slinks towards Leo and stabs at him.

Creeper 3 v Leo (1d20 11=21, 1d4 4=7, 1d6=2). 9hp damage to Leo.

In reply Leo glares back.

Divine challenge on C3

"Behold creature of shadow, Kelemvor's might!" Leo hisses back as he unleashes a holy strike on the fiend.

Rolled a 12+8 for a total of 20 to hit doing 1d8+5pts of radiant damage if he hits and if that is the case rolls a 2+5 for 7pts of radiant damage on C3

"Shadows fear the light and these are Shar's creatures!" Leo calls over.

To DM:

Spoiler:
Please note I have no idea whether this is true, its only an assumption and as dangerous as that sounds is intended only to boost the morale of those present

F Half-elf Ranger 4 (multiclass - Rogue)

1d20+8=21, 1d8+3=5 OA

"Not so fast, creep!"

Fairwind slides an attack past Creeper 1's guard and Cronin's divine power drives the creature to its knees. Leo's provocative challenge brings the heads of Creepers 2 and 3 around to face him, hissing.

Snaggletooth darts across the room and jabs viciously at the fallen Creeper with Fairwind's pilfered dagger. "Nasty, nasty, sneaky creeper things," he announces, punctuating his blow with kicks before darting away again.

Snaggle v Creeper 1 (1d20 8=26, 1d4 2=6)

Spoiler:

You realise that although the dark ones have no special vulnerabilities, their main danger comes from their use of their shadowy presence to grant themselves combat advantage. You remember dreadful stories of creepers exploding on death into a volley of darkness, afflicting all surrounding creatures.

Perigia, you roll for each attack, but only once for damage, so the damage would be 14hp on each if you'd hit them both.

Snaggletooth looks thoughtful as Perigia fires a new variant on her favourite cold spells past his nose. The prone Creeper covers with ice and suffers horribly, but Creeper 2 hisses and ducks aside, clearly regarding incoming ice as less of a menace than the looming figure of Commander Caine.

I knew that was the case for area effect spells, but I did not realize that it was the case with two seperate rays. Sorry.

Male Half Elf Paladin 6th

In case I'm not online when my turn comes up

Leo continues to cut loose on his foe with another holy strike.

Rolled a 13+8+2 (flanking bonus) for a total of 23 to hit and rolls 1d8+5 if it hits rolling 8+5 for 13pts of radiant damage on C3

F Half-elf Ranger 4 (multiclass - Rogue)

Shift to B2. Cut and Run against C1 1d20+8=20, 1d8+3=7 Shift as part of the power to E4. Second attack against C2 1d20+8=11, 1d6+3=6 forgot to add +2 for flaniking but still that must be a miss.

Fairwind slashes elegantly before tumbling to stab another creeper. Or attempt to.

Fairwind's antics damage the already wounded, immobilised and dazed Creeper 1 as she dances across the floor. Creeper 2 is able to dodge however and turns in time to take a swift blow from Commander Caine. Risking the opportunity attack, the Creeper slips behind the warlord and readies itself as Creeper 3 pulls its dark robes up over its face, and sidles to provide flanking.

Creeper 2 attacks the Commander and strikes true.
Creeper 2 attacks Caine (1d20 11=21, 1d4 4 1d6=12)

Creeper 3 is less ept and misses, his dagger hissing past the Commander's arm in a vicious downward strike.

Lots of OAs from you chaps. As follows:-
Commander Caine on Creeper 2 - hit for 7 damage
Leo, Brujo and Cronin on Creeper 3 - Brujo missed, Leo hit for 5 damage, Cronin missed.
Note that they are at AC+4 v OAs due to their Dark Step power, so you needed to hit 22 to clout them. I rolled them to help things on - I hope nobody minds.

Leo shifts sideways and cuts a nasty wound in Creeper 3, bloodying it further. Leo, shifted you one square so you could get your hit in.

Realising his newly gifted powers may take a little adjusting to, Cronin contents himself with aiding his ally.

Taking advantage of Creeper 1's immobility, Snaggletooth darts in again and stabs feebly at the cloaked figure, before shifting back out of the way again.

Aegis of Shielding on c3

Brujo's sudden appearance startles Creeper 2. For a fleeting instant, the creature looks at the door, but something about that seems to frighten it even more than a teleporting moon elf and a looming warlord. Perhaps puzzled by the creeper's reaction, Brujo's blow just misses.

Perigia's aim is better and she slams force energy firmly into the prone form of Creeper 1.

"I ain't forgotten about ya!" she says as she leaps back to defend Snaggletooth from the first creeper.

Who she is referring to is in doubt...

Fairwind bounds lightly towards the prone creeper and swiftly dispatches it. As it falls, the body explodes in a fountain of pure darkness, blinding the ranger.

Fairwind is blinded. Save ends. This is Killing Dark - a close burst 1 power of the creepers that targets enemies when they hit 0hp. Fairwind grants combat advantage and all targets have total concealment. She makes perception checks at -10 and cannot flank an enemy. On the upside, Creeper 1 is very dead.

The Commander strikes true, but the creeper doesn't fall. Hissing, it takes advantage of a flanking opportunity and misses. Creeper 2 also fails to get in a blow against the worthy warlord.

Both creepers sidle around the companions, looking for openings. As Creeper 2 eases past Brujo, the wily swordmage sees his opportunity and tries to slide his blade under the creature's defences.
