Rise of the Runelords - GM Pablo (Inactive)

Game Master Stetrix

Something is afoot in Varisia. There have been a series of odd murders in a small town on the west coast called Sand Point and more recently the capital Magnimar, where even the lord-mayor was a target. A cult of serial murderers called the Skinsaw Men was uncovered and stopped. We have also received reports of more activity along the border.

I would like you to go see the lord-mayor of Magnimar. Assure him the Pathfinder society will do what we can to help him. Investigate these goings on and see if there is a common thread to all this unrest. We have a lot of interests in Varisia and would like to maintain the good graces of the government. I doubt the lord mayor will have you sitting around for long. It is a big place and inevitably something will need attention.

So how does that sound? A mission without a precise goal and with no guarantee of coin. Ha! Are you up for it?

I need someone to cast enlarge and lead blades so I can kick some a$$!

Anaba you cast lead blades its a Ranger spell from your wand. :)

You hear a thump as something heavy hits the door.
Position yourselves and buff if you need to.

Should have 2 min of Bull Str left on myself and Anaba. Cast enlarge on Anaba then me. Shield has about 5 min. left. Bull strength on Vale from wand. That's three rounds. Will have sword enhanced w/ charge of VT and wand o'VT in hand for combat.

I am filling my vest with Invisibility Potion
Also drinking Shield Potion
Also drinking my Mutagen
I am preparing 2 poison arrows to have at the ready and will lay out about a dozen non-poisoned ones, as well to be able to pick and choose per shot.

I will delay my action until the end once it is time.

The heavy pounding on the door continues.

Strength Check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24 the door splinters from the lock and bursts open.

Prepared actions Rolande takes first initative (no surprise here) fires and hits twice. Killing the first ogre through the door. One down...many more to go.

Anaba Initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Buchart Initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

When did "get the hell out of here" become inventory the room? Argh, I hate fighting without the advantage of surprise.

Position Lumpy near the cells so he can swing out with his club. His reach will give him a shot at a lot of the room.

How many prep rounds do I have? Here's what I have in mind, let me know how much I can get off - I don't anticipate you giving me 7 rounds of prep. Sorry I can't get the circles/squares transparent, you can replace them when you see the areas.

1) Flame Arrow on 25 of Rolande's bullets, 12 of Jakardros' arrows, 12 of Shalelu's arrows, and the bolt loaded in my crossbow. 1d6 bonus fire damage until they run out of them. 1 hour duration.

2) Grease the square with the 1 on it, the square to the right of it, and the two north of that (splatter on the walls, I don't want any in our room). DC 17 on the grease. 6 minutes. I put a grey square.

3) Protection from Evil, Communal, on Kitty, Vale, Buchart, Anaba, Fernleaf, and Cela, one minute each.

4) Alarm on the grey circle to the south. Ten hours.

5) Mage Armor on myself.

6) Pearl on Mage Armor.

7) Mage Armor on Kitty.

Sekkimm you are up to 4th item, but your turn now and can do number 5.

I thought we came looking for prisoners? I didn't think it was an inventory, but yes we lost our surprise when Red Llama dime doored out.

You only spent a couple of rounds looking in the cells. No prisoners in the cells - your guess, by seeing the blood in the cells and bodies hanging around the exterior of the keep is they are long dead. Probably tortured and eaten. Feeding this many ogres takes a lot.

Strategically you have a good defensive position since the large ogres have to squeeze to get down the narrow stairs and can only enter one at a time.

Sorry for the delay in posting. We're working on installs in new buildings on campus.

I will also cast frostbite to deliver via my sword if there's time. Then wait until we have an ogre to attack. Readied action to swing both sword and wand at first or second ogre that enters the room.

Buchart wrote:

Even if you borrow a storm giant's shoehorn, you're not fitting more than one ogre in this room. There's 20 squares and 15 of them are already occupied.

BTW, GM Pablo, I used the silent alarm option on the alarm spell. I want to know if we're getting flanked, not wake up every lizard if we're getting flanked.

I think right about now would be a good time for a group to go out try to come up behind the Ogres. Once a few bodies start to pile up it is going to be tough for them to get through short of them eating their way. The Red Llama has to be up top somewhere and we need to get to her before she can heal. May be Fernleaf go inviso with poison and take Anaba, Sekkim, Lumpy and Vale. With me Jakardros and Shalelu taking each one coming in down with range weapons, Bucky and Cela for backup we should be able to hold this position.

I am not sure of how/where we can sneak up behind them, but I would rather do that than sit in the middle of this room. My strengths will be in sneaking and surprising. I am useless in melee

I thought there were other secret doors down here into the fort.

You best hope to Hanspur that those 10x10 ogres stack three or four deep in a 5x10 space in the doorway!

Buchart casts frostbite

The Ogre uses a javlin and attacks Fahari from cover.
Javlin: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 141d8 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11 miss

There is no target unless someone moves in the doorway.
Cela has Fahari move back.

There was a time not all that long ago when Buchart wouldn't have thought twice about putting himself in harms way to draw fire, but it's been a long time since The Crypt! Which one of us has a better view of the stairs?

It won't be long before lamia Lucrecia is back! I'm starting to agree with your assessment Rolande. Though I am loathe to be sitting back, as I am most effective when I'm in the enemies face.

Only Lumpy has line of sight and can't see past the Ogre. Feel free to hop in the stair area to engage

Sekkim can you Grease the Stairs?

Rolande Deerborne wrote:

He did already

So they aren't coming down the steps?

No they are throwing javelins since have a target with Lumpy

well only one is - can't fit many on the stairs because large. He is squeezed against the wall and 1/2 out of the grease so bonuses and he isn't moving.

Anaba or Buchart can melee if they want - they could attack without taking fire from top of stairs since no Line of Sight.

I instruct lumpy to move to his original location, and shift so I won't get javelined myself.

He will start healing at 1 hitpoint per round.

Can I fire with partial cover up the stairwell?

You can or move to where Lumpy was - if you can attack them they can attack you.

Unless you are at the bottom of the stairs you will only have line of sight on the lowest steps. Same for them on you.

I can't stick my gun into the stairwell without exposing my entire body and fire a flare cartidgeup the stairs?

If you shoot them they can return fire. You can try a trick shot using grit. You will need to see how that works.

Dive roll over to spot where there is no grease firing flare cartidge then Flaming Arrow bullets.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20
Pepperbox two-handed: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 191d8 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Pepperbox two-handed (rapidshot with grit): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 251d8 + 7 + 2d6 ⇒ (4) + 7 + (6, 5) = 22

crit: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
damage: 3d8 ⇒ (7, 1, 3) = 11
flame arrow damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5

Female Human (Shoanti) 147532-1 Fighter 1 | AC 22 T13 FF 20 | HP 71/71 | F +12 R +8 W +2 | Init +5 | Perc +10

Enough of this waiting! Let's slay these creatures!

I am going to step up 5' and hit this ogre!

Attack: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (16) + 14 = 303d8 + 19 + 1d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 7) + 19 + (6) = 38
Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 103d8 + 19 + 1d6 ⇒ (3, 7, 8) + 19 + (2) = 39

Do I get to choose which bullets get the flame arrow or is it the next 25? If I don't get to choose then I need another d6 for the flare shot, also for Bless I need to add plus 1 to the damage for an additional 2 points.
damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4

Anaba and Rolande shoot and slash the Ogre to shreds on the stairs. The Two ogres are making it near impossible for anyone to go up or down until at least one body is removed. The grease may help with extraction.

They can't see you and you can't see them with two very large dead ogres blocking the stairs. You can hear shouting and calls of alarm upstairs.

As I suggested another group should hurry to find a way to flank or find The Llama. Anaba and I will attempt to draw them down the stairs by taunting them a second time.

I disapprove of this plan, but I had better to go with them, as Haste would be handy if things get out of hand.

My notes say 2 hitpoints per round - it's Charisma based and bloody skeletons have a heightened charisma. Apparently gore is sexy?

Ok, there's going to be a big ruckus on floor one near the stairwells, so we need to go anywhere but there. The best thing to do might be to try to get up on the outer or inner walls, perhaps. We can look for soft targets, perhaps murder some sentries.
