Liquidating it might be a problem considering the Dragon outside. If I were level 7 I could...cheat using magic with a price tag but not at this point of time. BTW since we have some spare cash, who's for cloaks of resistance?
Balin Shadowbane |
OK tell me how much cash you have at hand, we'll start the cloak factory producing one cloak per day. +9 spellcraft, I need to accelerate, but I have a scroll of casters fortune, so drop it on me, I still have a +9 modifier.
Cloak of resistance is DC 6, +5 for not having resistance memorized, next time please kick me for not preparing it, so DC 11, I pass on anything except a natural 1.

The cash for producing the items is for the material components not something you are exactly going to get inside a dungeon.
Balin Shadowbane |
Yes you must as well say that casters spell component pouches have limited components as well - I fail to see why I'd you pay the necessary sum in price, you cannot do the crafting.
Furthermore, I would have gotten this item had it been allowed by the sources listed (since ARG was not allowed) - which indicates you can craft as you adventure.
brvheart |
A spellcaster with a spell component pouch is assumed to have all the material components and focuses needed for spellcasting, except for those components that have a specific cost, divine focuses, and focuses that wouldn’t fit in a pouch.
An artificer's lab would only give you 3 hours a night instead of 2 and it gives a -5 penalty making it a DC of 15 5+ CL of 5 +5 penalty. Still, where do you get the magical material components as the entire lab only costs 400 GP? Scrolls and potions are an exception listed to this rule. You will need to stock up on components if you want to create items while adventuring and keep track of them. Say you buy 5000 GP worth in the city you can use them while adventuring, but it takes weight also. It can be done, just no where near as easily or as fast as in a city and I will allow time for item crafting during the campaign.
Balin Shadowbane |
Item said what it does, it's not in my place to ask how it works. Hey, I don't make the rules. I was not informed of anything like this before game start and had actually speced for crafting - who the heck buys a ring of sustenance otherwise.
Just so you know, the first thing I will do once I hit level 7 is to do the following:
Call a hound archon and pay necessary offering cost of 900 gp
Irenicus can tell him where the shops are using knowledge local - hound archons have greater teleport, so they can go to bards gate. And carry 50 lbs of items each time they teleport.
Irenicus |
Since the crafting section says wonderous items need material 1/2 it's price, the most obvious being the item itself, does that mean we can use cloaks as the material plus gold? So we only need to find 5 cloaks to enchant, pile gold on them and chant some mumbo jumbo for a couple hours?
Balin Shadowbane |
Please give clarification if you have any issues on hound archons teleporting things in and out of Rappan Athuk(after appropriate planar ally costs have been paid, of course) - I'll say I don't like house rules being sprung on me in the middle of the game after I built my character to do certain things.
brvheart |
The cost is half price, but the time is based on market price This is not a house rule, it is RAW.
Balin Shadowbane |
I am fine about time - since base price - I misunderstood it was on the crafting price as opposed to item base price. Not that it matters, I can wait.
I can even wait till 7 to do any crafting. But I do want confirmation that there won't be any issues with hound archon shopping at that time.
I don't think you need to disguise a hound archon with spells really.
Anyway for most disguise stuff - it generally works on self only. Just do it mundanely I suppose.

in game Irenicus asked about the dragon.
ok, I apologize in advance because this has turned in to me metagaming, I don't like it when others have done it, so I apologize that I have unintentionally done it leading up to this conversation.
when we heard rumors early in the game we were told about the dragon.
Several times brv mentioned it in roll20. That either the other team, in his home game, fought it or that he was rolling for an encounter to see if it showed up in this game.
I forget that we all don't read the posts in Roll20 and I'm sorry that I brought it up to Mort.
I believe the first time was when she and I were talking about the game before she was in it.
But I did tell her there were two things about going to town a lot. The first would cause us to eventually be robbed by the dragon. The second, that every time we went to town the game slowed to a crawl.
That is why she was trying to be able to craft items in the dungeon.
Of course this whole discourse has caused us to slow down to a crawl again.
brvheart |
Seriously, this is all over rumors over the dragon? Sure, there is always a risk, but every party I have run through RA since 2002 has crafted their items in their down time and I try and always allow time for it. I have also added a few high level casters at the Ferry so you don't have to go all the way to Bard's Gate for everything. Every party adventures for awhile and collects a bunch of treasure they want to sell and they go back to the ferry or teleport to Bard's Gate eventually. Sure, some have run into the dragon and have lost stuff, but there is always a risk of bandits. In net they usually end up well ahead and have treasure they don't know what to do with at some point. Down time should be a quick bookkeeping session keep, and not take weeks to resolve. Someone needs to take charge and get er done. I am going to end this discussion here with a simple ruling. You want to mass produce items it needs to be done on your down time in town or in your keep, lair, etc. An archon would never be your gopher to get things in town. If you wish to continue on that basis, great. If not I am going to shut this game down for good. I can't run a game that ends up in rule squabbles constantly. This ran well for over two years without any.
Irenicus |
Wow good memory elathras I completely forgot that. Not too worried about it though, slim chance and if it happens it happens.
I'm cool with the rules as stated. Definitely don't want the game to end. Agree on town trips being simple bookkeeping or downtime. Pbp won't ever be fast but one post per person on purchases should be good with minimal discussion.
Anyway brv I think you missed it but was there a shield that detected as magic? Did I ID the magic on the chest or was it coming from the vials in the compartment? Anything else magical that we didn't identify?
brvheart |
The shield is magical and the vials were what was magical in the chests. None of them have been identified as of yet.

I have a paladin that will be joining us soon. He was a player in my house game and is a good player:)
brvheart |
Who is tracking experience? Leslie also has a cleric he can bring in.
Elathras Narcinal |
I have not been tracking experience since I came back, I was just going along with the one on Kaz's sheet, but since he's dropped I haven't figured what to do.
brvheart |
From Kaz'z sheet the party s/b at 19,188. Please start tracking your xp. I am bringing in the cleric at level 6 so you will have the extra healing.
brvheart |
I am heading out of town for thanksgiving and will not return until late Sunday. Happy Thanksgiving all!
brvheart |
Everyone welcome Thoron. He will be joining the party as your new cleric.
brvheart |
Thoron, please follow this link to join Roll20. Just click on the word link!
brvheart |
Ok, Leslie is ready to go and now that you have a cleric we can get going again. FYI, I forgot that you were still only level 5, but if anyone is going to be one level ahead you want the cleric to be and in the other RA game the cleric is also as he found the item to increase him in the Mouth of Doom. They are also fighting the Black Skellies at the moment curiously!

Sorry guys, I've been trying to get a post together, using waiting on Gruk as an excuse, but I'm just not feeling it anymore.
I don't know if it's too many sputters and starts and stops. Or if it's not knowing what to do with Elathras now that he's not stupid anymore. Or if it's the changing of so many characters. Or just that I'm bored with RA.
But what ever it is, I guess I'm done.
Thanks for the game Brv, it was fun for a while. Good luck everyone and good gaming.
Brv could you put Elathras in the "Previous Players" section, Thanks.
