Thinking paladin/sorcerer or mage/thief.
I'm a big fan of paladin/sorcerers, heading toward dragon disciple PrC. That's one of my favorite builds in Pathfinder. I usually go 2/4/x, unless I'm going to be a main front liner. Then I reverse the class levels.

Robert Henry and I discussed the Deep Delver. It would need a rework. The falconer might have a lot of issues in a dungeon. My wife is suggesting beast master.

Tomato Jam |

I have to pass on Beast Master. It would cost Virgil his 6th level bonus feat: Switch hitting would become a pipedream.
I know there are parts to the falconer that won't function in dungeons; that said, I won't have to leave a bird behind at the first "rope down a hole." It also has the advantage of starting with a companion: I feel like front-loading features is the way to survive.
Not too bothered about Deep Walker, out of curiousity, what was the sticking point?
Finally (and probably most importantly) is the rich trait ok? It's the only way I can think of to get Virgil the composite bow he'll need, since the DC23 craft checks to make one will be impossible until level 5 and beyond (which is a bit darn late).
Edit: I just noticed you were referring to the deep delver in your post. The deep walker gives up things like favored terrain and trackless step to give Rangers bonuses in caves/dungeons.

Elathras Narcinal |

hey guys, this is Robert I was talking with brv about a trapper ranger half-orc I went a different direction, I didn't want to step on any ones toes, so I went half-elf barbarian.
brvheart I took two traits
both add to initiative, if this is not ok let me know and I will switch it.

brvheart |

My issue with the Deep Walker is Deep Knowledge replaces favored terrain. It seems like over optimizing a character for a dungeon that the character would not have the fore knowledge of. Just seems rather gamey to me. Having favored terrain underground I would not have an issue with. Nor most of the rest of the archetype.

brvheart |

i thought there was a trait for only 300 GP. Can't find it at present. yes, you should have your bow at least.

brvheart |

Found one 'Get the Cargo Through'. It is from Serpent's Skull, but since I own that one it qualifies and it is part of my campaign. Destined for Greatness is good also. Either would get you your bow.

Virgil the Vigilant |

I believe Virgil is all finished up.
I picked up "Get the Cargo through": I still found myself stuggling to make ends meet, but I can deal. I'll just have to be on the lookout for better armor/weapons.
I also feel pretty silly: Falconer replaces the Ranger's 6th level bonus feat, just like Beast Master (and I didn't notice). Won't be taking that.

brvheart |

Just as long as you are aware of it. Being a ranger it is not a big deal and Arden worshippers are starting up again of late. They found an amulet in my other Lost Lands game last week. There are a lot of good plot hooks for it also:)

I answered my own question!
Unless I misread something, this is the party thus far:
Kaztor Strongforge - Dwarf Cleric Earth/Strength
Evandariel (Alias Pending) - (Class pending, Paladin or Sorcerer?)
Elathras Narcinal - Half-Elf Barbarian
Jar'k Gnor-wek - Bard (Buccaneer)
Mitleid - Dwarf Monk (Zen Archer) or... Cleric?
Virgil the Vigilant - Human Ranger (Dungeon Rover/Trapper)
No posts yet from Mitleid or Jar'k Gnor-wek in the Discussion Thread. Food for thought.

brvheart |

Ranger
dwarf cleric
barbarian
The others are in work or not responded yet.

brvheart |

Add to that a halfling paladin. I am not sure Jar'k is coming. If we end up with 7 someone can go to level 3 and go to the other game that has 5. I know Mitleid will be here. Count him in:)
Add Dolgrin - halfling paladin

Tomato Jam |

Like this then?
Confirmed Party thus far:
Kaztor Strongforge - Dwarf Cleric Earth/Strength
Elathras Narcinal - Half-Elf Barbarian
Virgil the Vigilant - Human Ranger (Dungeon Rover/Trapper)
Dolgrin Brightlaughter - Halfling Paladin
Mitleid - Dwarf Monk (Zen Archer) or... maybe Cleric?
Pending character completion:
Evandariel (Alias Pending) - (Class pending, Paladin or Sorcerer?)
Possibly lost forever:
Jar'k Gnor-wek - Bard (Buccaneer)

brvheart |

I think so, Evandril emailed me about his character earlier so I presume he will get his done soon when wife and work let him:)

evandariel |

Yes going for paladin/sorcerer or fighter/sorcerer into eldritch knight. Haven't worked out all the kinks yet, work is slamming me. Will be focusing spellcasting more on utility and out of combat, with a few attack spells but not a blaster or buffer (mostly)
Thinking about taking craft wondrous later on or magic arms and armor depending on if someone else takes one or both.

Dolgrin Brightlaughter |

Dot.
Hi all. If we're dreaming about one day builds, dolgrin might eventually want to try and do the oradin thing (dip oracle of life for life link) but that's a ways (and many traps) away.
@evandariel Getting into EK as pal2/sorc6 is fine, but actually playing through the pal2/sorc2-5 area is painful. Go Fighter/Wizard (It's even old school appropriate if you're an elf) Obviously disregard if you're in love with the idea =p

Elathras Narcinal |

hey brvheart, thinking about feats a little bit, what is your opinion on Tribal Scars if you approve I made trade power attack for it, biggest problem it's in "Pathfinder Player Companion: People of the North"

@Evandarial: I share Dolgrin's sentiment: The utility of Wizarding never goes away, even when you're behind a whole spell level. That said, do what you feel! Death is inevitable anyway.
I have to say, this is a pretty beefy party. Can't wait.

brvheart |

Now you have your dwarves up front, you'll be fine. Besides I never allow ALL the characters to die. Someone has to recruit new victims! Everyone have their backups ready.

Kaztor Strongforge |

If Kaz buys it, would you allow a dragon disciple in your game, DM? Like I said earlier, they are one of my favorites!

brvheart |

Tomato Jam, did I read you do not have a pdf reader? How are you accessing the forum?

Mitleid |

Just a thought for all.
Rappan Arthuk ... is a meat grinder.
I learned very early that if you want to survive have the basic places covered and do not try some fancy footwork. Tomb of horrors and Tomb of iuchiban tought me that. Temple of elemental evil, too.
Go for the killing shot quickly.
I would love one learned (Bard of wizard) Sorcerers are nice, but if you know what you face, you know how to kill it... or when to RUN!

brvheart |

Ok, my concern is being able to see the maps. Filling out the will persey is not required just need to let it known what you want done with your stuff in case of death. Most of it is humor on the will!

brvheart |

You all start with 150 GP to equip yourselves. I will raise that for later levels, but RA has no WBL. Some levels you will have a lot less, others a lot more. Survive and you will become rich, very rich! Generally parties are poor to start and by level 10 they don't know what to do with it all! Hauling it out can be a challenge in itself. And there are those who will want to relieve you of that wealth before you reach town. Before we start everyone will roll on the rumor table to see what you may have heard about the place.

Kaztor Strongforge |

When Kaz dies, I want his items passed along to his son and/or friend, Kaz. Jr., who may or may not be a gnome!

Elathras Narcinal |

Elathras will leave everything to his little twin brother who will come to avenge his death, did I say twin? they were octuplets

Dolgrin Brightlaughter |

Did I mention Dolgrin Brightlaughter is a Title (I'll probably reuse this alias)
My next two after this are both clerics I think. Dwarf Cleric of stone is nicely old school, and so is human cleric of the sun god. After that, maybe a sturm knockoff...

brvheart |

Those are different characters so I don't have an issue Dolgrin. RA is deadly, but I hope you are not going through lots of characters! Each that is.
