Rannik |
You walk into the room and everything seem peaceful. You are almost to the other side when you see your reflection in the pool. Even though the water isn't clear, you can see yourself as if looking in a mirror. You can take your gaze off as you see yourself slowly rot away. turning into some sort of horrifying undead creature. Still unable to move you see that reflection crawling out of the pool. It stands for a second before you and then it moves, fast. In seconds, your reflection, stand over the mutilated corpse of your comrade. It looks once again at you, licking the blood on its hands. It smiles at you, if you can call that a smile and with a blur it leaves the room. You don't know how, but you get the feeling that the creature is going after your loved ones back at the village. You need to get out of here, you need to go help them before it's too late.
Kakrish: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Hoga: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Red Raven: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Tamora: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
You start running, you can't help it. Someone you love will be killed if you don't get to the village before your undead reflection does. You are sure of it.
Tamora |
How long are they running for?
Tamora |
"No..."
Tamora falters as she backpedals.
"NOOOOOOOO!"
She clutches her head, turning and running back to the direction she came from.
Kakrish Stonetoe |
"Tamora! Hoga!" Kakrish shouts at the two who start to flee. "It's not real!" Kakrish races after Tamora and touches her on the back. As soon as he touches her he casts a resistance spell in hopes that she'll more quickly see through the illusion.
Tamora |
Might want to move things along. Maybe PM him?
Rannik |
Realizing what's happening, Red-Raven moves quickly to get in front of Tamora and Hoga. Blocking their path, in gives enough time for Kakrish to catch up and use a spell on Tamora to help her snap out of it. Hoga and Tamora both feel like something isn't quite right, they felt a presence that isn't suppose to be there. They shake their head and try to focus on what is blocking them from reaching the village. With a lot of mental effort, they see that the rest of the group is still alive. Realizing now that what they just felt was some sort of illusion mixed with a compulsion effect.
Having now managed to resist the effect, you are pretty sure that you can't be affected again for the rest of the day.
Hoga: 1d20 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 2 + 4 = 25
Tamora: 1d20 + 8 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 8 + 1 + 4 = 31
Tamora |
Tamora is about to let loose another scream when she feels someone touching her. She struggles to pry her attacker's hand off when her flailing slows. When she regains clarity, she realize she is holding the dwarf's hand and shoves it back.
"What happe-the pool?! It showed us horrific visions of our worst fears, made us scurry away like rats."
Tamora stomps out of the room and comes back with multiple filled containers. She pours the purified water (water from the fountain) onto the pool, scanning it every instance with detect magic.
If nothing, she will take 20 on perception (total check=30) to check the next room without crossing it. She will also refill those empty containers and give each of the member except Red Raven who received one and herself who already has in possession, two containers.
Rannik |
Tamora goes back and forth between the pool and the fountain. Pouring as much water as she can into the pool. The mix of water seems to neutralize the problem and she feels that the threat is passed. Looking into the next room, Tamora sees a second catacomb. This chamber has a number of recesses carved into the walls and a fissure in the ceiling. Also, as she looks at the ceiling, she notices hundreds of bats hanging there.
Tamora |
Tamora jerks back.
"I am getting our resident sorcerer. I will be right back."
She exits the rooms again and returns with Taladrius.
"Lest we awaken and provoke the bats in the next room."
Tamora |
Will be taking 10 on stealth for a total of 17 if Hoga is leading the way.
Tamora |
You can just roll if your skill modifier is low instead of taking 10. I generally put ranks in stealth because it is one of the most essential skills after perception.
Kakrish Stonetoe |
Where is Taladrius the player?
Kakrish peeks into the room. "Ugh. Bats. Maybe we'll be able to sneak by without them noticing. But, you know, I'm not very sneaky." The dwarf chuckles quietly.
Tamora |
"I believe each of us should have those acid flasks and alchemist fire on hand if we have to deal with them. I brought Taladrius because I find that as a mage, he has ways of dealing with them through supernatural means."
Tamora takes a flask of alchemist fire in one hand.
I thought he has burning hands by now if he is level 2 unless he still level 1. And Tamora thought he has the magic for dealing with the swarm.
Kakrish Stonetoe |
"All right. Well give me one of those flasks and we'll burn those bat things out of here." Kakrish takes the flask from Hoga and then tries to sneak into the room.
Stealth: 1d20 - 5 ⇒ (18) - 5 = 13
Tamora |
Just a note. Tamora will ready an action to throw the vial at the swarm if the bats come alive to form it.
Rannik |
Taladrius takes a long look in the room and backs out. "I don't have spells to deal with that. But I can give you this." He gives an alchemical fire to Red-Raven and returns to the room with Roldare. The group starts crossing the second catacomb, keeping a constant Watch on the ceiling. Everything is going well until Kakrish's greatsword scrape against one of the sarcophagi. The screech of metal against stone echoes in the room, awaking the bats and sending them into a frenzy. As they start grouping, Tamora sends an alchemical fire flying into the midst.
The swarm of bats moves toward the noise, enveloping Hoga and Kakrish in their midst. The little creatures bite of the two, getting into all the little spaces were flesh is exposed. Red-Raven throws his flask at the swarm. He hits it, reducing their numbers, but at the same time the liquid splashes a bit on Hoga and Kakrish. "This one is sorry"
That's 1 point of damage to Hoga and Kakrish on top of the swarm. Also you both need to do a Fort DC 11 or be nauseated for a round.
Bats perception: 1d20 ⇒ 16
Tamora ranged touch: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Swarm Damage vs Hoga: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Swarm Damage vs Kakrish: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Red-Raven ranged touch: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Kakrish: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Hoga: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
Red Raven: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Tamora: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Bats: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
The group is up
Kakrish Stonetoe |
Fort save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
"Ah! I told you I wasn't very sneaky!" Kakrish bats at the bats with his hands. The bites from the bats seem to affect much more than he would expect and a wave of nausea floods over him. He is barely able to keep his stomach under control.
Tamora |
Not sure if she can do anything here. Maybe she might draw a flask from Hoga's backpack when he moves adjacent to her. So the bat swarm receive 6 damage this round (due to +50% damage) & next round?
"Hoga, move towards me and hand me a flask so I can help."
Tamora |
K. Edited the post above.
Tamora |
Can Tamora aid another Kakrish to give him a boost in saving throws?
Tamora instead works to help the dwarf regains his stupor by shaking him and making him focus on her instead of the bats.
"Kakrish, snap out of it!"
Once she is done, she moves away from the swarm.
Aid another Kakrish's saving throw vs DC 10: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
I think she can if I read it right. If she succeeds, Kakrish gets +2 to his save.
Aid another Kakrish's saving throw vs DC 10: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Going to roll another because of wrong modifier.
Tamora |
Should be either Kakrish or GM's turn now depending on interpretation.
Tamora |
Yeah, Tamora conduct an aid another action on Kakrish to help him fight the distraction ability, giving him +2 to save if she succeeds. Will need clarification from GM.
Kakrish Stonetoe |
Got a little confused but I think I understand. Tamora's did an Aid so that means that Kakrish passed his Fort Save so he's not nauseated and he gets a standard. So I'm taking that.
As the bats swarm Kakrish flings his arms around trying to swat them out of the air. Then he remembers the acid flask. He tosses it up, into the mass of bats hoping to kill them off.
acid flask@swarm: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 Ranged touch
damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Tamora |
Think we got to bail. We have only 1 shot left.
Rannik |
Hoga and Kakrish both throw their flask. It's not a direct hit, but the splash of the acid is enough to convince the rest of the bats to leave the room by the fissure. within seconds, the room reverts back to being quiet. Only the sound of your own breathing can be heard. Looking quickly around, you don't see anything of value aside from the sarcophagus. From where he is, Hoga can see the exit corridor that turns left.
Both Kakrish and Hoga suffer another point of damage from a bleeding effect.
Tamora |
Tamora crosses her hand when she hears the screech and the flutter of wings. When the room becomes quiet, she peeks into the room only to find it lacking of bats. She quickly treats Hoga and Kakrish, stopping the bleeding.
"By the light of Saerenrae, thank goodness you are not gravely injured."
Heal (Take 10) - 22
Tamora |
Are you going to down the two CLW potions before we move on or do you want Tamora to use her mundane healing on you?
"May I suggest something? If you want to perform in peak condition, you may want to consume the healing potions we bought along with us. If you want to save them, tell me and I will restore you."
With that said, Tamora searches the room for loot and moves forward scouting the next room.
"By the way, Kakrish, do you know the protection from evil spell?"
You know what. I am going to have Tamora take 20 on all of her perception checks for future scouting and searching. She will also detect magic and all four alignments during her scouting. Before the last room, if she detect evil, she will cast protection from evil on Hoga and Kakrish or Red Raven (if Kakrish has the spell & cast it on himself))
Kakrish Stonetoe |
"I wouldn't mind a bit of healing. Hoga, you take one and I'll take one." Kakrish takes one of the cure potions and drinks it down. "Ah! That feels better."
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
He replies to Tamora, "Protection from evil? Hah. I've got all the protection I need here." Kakrish holds up his sword with one arm and flexes his muscles in the other.
Rannik |
@Tamora, you find no loot in this room.
Moving forward through the corridor, the group comes to a door. Listening before opening it, Tamora hears nothing coming from the other side the door. Opening it, the group carefully enters the next room.
The vaulted ceiling of this vast chamber shows significant signs of damage, with numerous cracks along its surface. In the center of the room, a 10-foot-wide bridge crosses a deep chasm. On the other side, a pair of stone statues watch over the end of the bridge in front of a set of grand brass double doors. The statues depict villagers holding shields and spears.
While inspecting it, Tamora finds the entire center section of the bridge is a huge pressure plate. Walking across would trigger something, but what, she isn't sure.
Tamora |
"More protection would not hurt. We will need it against the evil and the undead that are getting progressively stronger especially the leader of these bunches who is operating and will more tougher than anything we fought. If you have any memorized, I encourage you to use it on yourself before the final battle."
Tamora points towards the empty potion flask after Kakrish down its contents.
"If both of you have imbibed the potion, can you hand the vials to me so that I could make one last trip back to the fountain to refill them and hand it back to you?"
Once Hoga drinks the last CLW potion and both consent, she will refill the vials and give them back.
After Hoga drinks the CLW potions and both agree...
She hands the refilled vial back to the dwarf and the half-orc. Then, she surveys the statue room. Her eyes furrows then she slaps her head with her hand, berating herself.
"Foolish. How have I not thought of this solution when we entered the arrow room! The two rooms are so similar in engineering. We would have not need to wasteful and we would have gotten off easier."
The inquisitor turns her companions.
"Gentlemen, I believe I have figured a way to cross the room and avoid the trap. We are going to climb up and move across the room."
She will take 10 on climb. Before opening the doors, her initiative to cast protection from evil on Hoga and Red Raven is still in effect if she sense evil behind the double doors or once it opens if her detect alignment does not work when the door is closed. She will then stay at the rear like always.
Tamora |
So is everyone agree to her going back and her suggestion to climb?
Tamora |
What about taking 10 on acrobatics to jump across the plate?
