Did we miss a post? We went from "path is invariably a secret door the aspirant must locate in order to even begin the trial." to "This room has a fifteen-foot-high domed ceiling and no floor..." with only two perception checks between those posts. I'm guessing that the perception checks passed and we found the secret door?
Yep, there is a paragraphe missing in my last post about finding the secret door and moving to the next room.
The group is able to pass the pit with barely any problem. Continuing on, the group come to an intersection. One corridor seems to lead to a large room, while the other seems to be making a U-turn.
Rannik |
You head toward the room. Inside you find sixteen five-foot-wide alcoves, each containing the crumpled remains of a sparring dummy. From what Kyras can remember, this is the Aspirant’s Challenge. The aspirants monks were blindfolded to simulate the lightless conditions of the darkness between the stars, and then challenged to move quickly
through the chamber and topple sixteen separate dummies from their stands as quickly as possible. Only if the task was done in a certain amount of time was the aspirant allowed to continue.
You find a secret door in the corner of the room.
Kyras Darksoul |
Kyras explains what he remembers of the test as he looks around.
Preception: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (5) + 16 = 21
Kakrish Stonetoe |
If I take 20 I can get 28 or 30 to notice unusual stonework. Will that do it?
"So let me get this right. A bunch of monkeys would blindfold themselves, to pretend that they were up in the sky, then they would run through this room and try to knock down all those dummies? I bet it was hilarious to watch that." Kakrish strolls over to one of the alcoves and prods at the crumpled dummy with the toe of his boot.
Kyzen |
Too High... No perception possible for Kyzen or Maffei...

Three fifteen-foot-diameter platforms lie in this room, each rising three feet high. In the center of each platform, a globeshaped container of murky liquid sits in the embrace of an octopus-shaped brass cradle. Each globe is about two feet across—the two westernmost globes are intact, and a dark, indistinct mass floats in the center of each. The eastern globe has been shattered, and a large stain has spread out around it on the floor. Along the wall near the eastern door sits a tiny wooden cabinet with a message scribbled on its front. A
similar one sits beside the western door.

Since Hernvet is busy, here's the info for everyone.

Kakrish Stonetoe |
"Interesting. Sounds like someone broke one of those globe things you're describing. I suppose we should go in and see what it is. And that writing on the cabinet."
Kakrish pushes the door open.
Hernvet Bargill |
"It might be dangerous maybe yall should not just walk on in there?" Hernvet turns to Kyras "Does this have anything to do with this whole temple thing we've been deal'in with?"
Rannik |
As you walk into the room, you feel a presence inside your head. A voice that seems to drown out all the others.
Perfom a will DC 19, if you fail, your character will head toward the middle globe and try to shatter it.
Once inside the room, Hoga and Kakrish are able to read the inscription. Herein lies safety—but know that to rely on such crutches is to fall from the Path.
Kakrish Stonetoe |
Will: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15 +2 vs. poison, spells, and spell-like abilities
Kakrish starts to scan the room and then an overwhelming voice fills his head. It drowns out all the others. He focuses on the globe in the middle of the room and scowls. That globe must be destroyed! He moves towards it, raises his sword, and brings it down hard.
greatsword@globe: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
dmg: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 1) + 6 = 13
Kyras Darksoul |
Kyras, unsure what to make of Kakrish's action tries to recall how this might be a test. He smells the air and tries to note any odor from the broken globe. [ooc]Does the swing break the globe?[/b]
Rannik |
The orb cracks other the impact of Kakrish's sword but the liquid inside doesn't pour out. You guess that two or three more hit like that should be enough to break it open. Kyras that a sniff at the liquid on the floor. It smell like a combination of embalming fluid, vinegar and something else he just can't figure out yet.
Kyras Darksoul |
Kyras moves forward to try to restrain Kakrish if necessary. Kakrish, I think this is some test of will. You must try not to break the globe.
Disarm: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Kakrish Stonetoe |
Kakrish makes a halfhearted attempt to push Kyras away while keeping his focus on the orb.
Question to the GM before I post my real action.
Kakrish Stonetoe |
Kakrish stares at the globe in disbelief. His first strike should have shattered it. He raises his sword against it again.
greatsword@globe: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 Wow. Good time for a 1.
Kyzen |
Sorry for the delay, hoping my action goes before Kakrish's...
Seeing with everyone's reaction that Kakrish should probably not continue to hit the globe, Kyzen uses is
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Kinetic Cover (Sp) Class Ability (Kineticist)
Element aether, earth, or water; Type utility (Sp); Level 1; Burn 0
--------------------------------------------------------------------
You call up elemental matter to defend yourself and your allies from attacks. As a standard action, you can select one face of a square within 30 feet of you and move elemental matter to block that face, providing total cover from that direction. The face you select must be supported by the ground, and the kinetic cover cannot support more than 5 pounds of weight. Water, ice, and telekinetic force are translucent, but earth, metal, mud, and the like are opaque and block line of sight. A creature who strikes the cover can easily destroy it. Regardless of its composition, the cover has hardness 0, AC 5, and 2 hit points per kineticist level you possess. You can have a number of kinetic covers in existence equal to your Constitution modifier + 1/2 your kineticist level.
to raise a barrier between Kakrish and the Globe, it is not much but will at least gives us a bit more time...
Rannik |
Kakrish swings his sword at the orb again, but not only is it badly aimed, but Kyras managed to disarmed the dwarf. At the same time, Kyzen create a slab of stone to block the access to the globe.
Kyras Darksoul |
Inspired Will Save: 1d20 + 6 + 1d6 ⇒ (7) + 6 + (6) = 19 +2 vs enchantments.
Something tugs at my brain. Stay back, lest it tug at your's as well.
Kakrish Stonetoe |
"Why? Isn't it obvious?" Kakrish looks at his empty hands as the sword clatters to the ground. He glares at Kyras. "Why'd you do that?" The slab of stone shoots up in front of him and he jumps back. "Ok. So this orb just doesn't want to get broken. I'll take care of it. Aren't the rest of you going to help me or do I have to do it all myself?"
He picks up his sword from the floor and moves around the wall of stone to the other side.
"I don't know what you're talking about. There's nothing wrong with my brain."
Move action to pick up the sword and move action to get around the wall.
Kyras Darksoul |
AOO, Trip: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Sorry my friend but I do not think it will be good if you break that glass. Trust me, you are being compelled.
anyone have protection from evil? Also that is 2 nat 20s in a row.
Kakrish Stonetoe |
From the floor, Kakrish glowers at Kyras. "What did you do that for? I'm just trying to break that orb. You guys should be helping me but it seems like you're trying to stop me. What's wrong with you!" Kakrish stands and then picks up his sword.
I assume that I'm on the wrong side of the wall still.
Kyras Darksoul |
Sighing Kyras moves to position himself in front of Kakrisk blocking the orb. Is it so important to break some glass that you would hurt a friend? Think dwarf! Something compels you.
Kakrish Stonetoe |
"Explain? What? Just listen to what they're saying." Kakrish looks stunned and perplexed at Hoga and Kyras. "Why are you guys so confused. And no, Kyras, I don't want to hurt a friend but if you are intentionally blocking us from doing what we must, then maybe you are really a friend."
Hernvet Bargill |
Hernvet moves over to the orb and says "Wait Kakrish let me attempt to break it with a spell so that it will not cause harm to you or your blade" Hernvet stretches out his hand and casts detect magic.
Bluff: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Kakrish Stonetoe |
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Kakrish thinks for a moment then smiles. He points at Hernvet with his sword but looks at the others. "See? Now this guy gets it. Hoga, I don't think that we have to smash the orb. I know that we do. So should you. I can't believe that Hernvet and I are the only sane ones here."
GM, does Hernvet's tactic alter my actions at all?
Rannik |
Will dc 19 please. If you fail, you also start hearing voices compelling you to smash the orb. You can't help yourself but to do it. If you pass, the voices fade as fast as they started.
Kyras Darksoul |
How big is the orb? Can Kyras pick it up? Anyone have a handy haversack or bag of holding?
