I've taken note of your plan before the fight of the dragon, and will drop a hint that you are entering that room before hand.

You travel for a long time under ground in the dug out tunnel. Once in a while, you see wooden posts to reinforce the walls and ceiling. Eventually, the tunnel opens up slightly into a room. While big, you can't imagine that it would be the lair of the dragon. Two possible exits are visible, letting you know that there is more to this place then just a simple cavern with a dragon. In the room stand three more grioths who seem determined that you don't see the rest of the complex.

Maffei joins the fight and attacks the other Grioth. Her blade finds a weak spot and cut in deep. The two front Grioth handles their falchion with an expert hand and counter attack the group. Luckily for the group, both Hoga and Maffei avoids getting hit more then once. The one in the back starts casting a spell. Seconds latter, an explosion of sound can be heard that enveloppe Kakrish, Hernvet and Kyzen.

Kyzen aims at the priest at the back and sends a blast of energy. It does hit the creature, leaving a good size wounds. Maffei side step the Grioth in front of her and tries her best to find a weak spot, but all of her attacks are deflected. Hoga does manages to get some good hits, but the creature is still standing. Hoga's attack must have cause some serious damage, because the grioth in front of him doesn't even come close to hitting him. Maffei, however, is less lucky and get some serious cuts from the falchion. The priest in the back uses magic to heal some of his wounds before moving before moving back from the group.

With the fight over, the group is able to explore more the room. There is a exist north that also seem to go down. As for the opening in the eastern wall, it allows you to see a large natural cavern. The ceiling is impressively high, and with the floor being a hundred feet down, it just make the place even more grand. Looking around, you notice a ledge on the north side of the cavern that is much closer to the floor. Getting there should make it way easier to access the cavern.

@Kakrish. There is some light in the huge cavern provided by luminescent moss.

You follow the northern passage to a double room. The first part is rather bare and just contain a few furniture that seem to have been taken from the monastery. The second part looks like a resting place for the Grioth. You don't find any personal items, leaving you to believe that this was more a transition room from where ever they came from to the outside world. Further down, you see three set of crude stairs that leads toward the huge cavern. If anyone would have some preparation to do before heading to what looks like the dragon's lair, now might seem to be the time.
