The Blakros Museum rises into the night sky, its single black spire severing the full moon in twain. The black iron gates surrounding the exhibition hall grind in protest against the wind. Beyond, the museum’s large oaken doors stand wide open, a silver-gray mist belching forth from the cavernous darkness within. You wonder how you ended up here, standing at the precipice of unknown terrors, and instantly Venture- Captain Adril Hestram’s wide looming face is conjured into your minds’ eye. His booming words ring out from memory as clearly as he spoke them only one hour ago:
“The Blakros Museum is cursed. Some darkness has descended upon the place and those who enter are blasted with evil and left raving through its halls, more beast than men. The curator, Nigel Aldain, is an old associate of the Society, though he chose to leave our organization some years back after a disagreement.” Adril looked sheepish then, as if remembering some distasteful incident from his youth.
“Nigel has long denied the Society access to the Blakros Museum’s considerable collection of relics and scrolls, using his extensive contacts to nab several excellent finds right out from under us... he always had a nose for the hunt. Whatever is past between Nigel and the Society, he needs our help now. Perhaps if we can come to his aid, he may think on rejoining the Pathfinder Society, or at least offering to share his discoveries with us.”
“Apparently the trouble at Blakros Museum began this morning, shortly after a wayward Pathfinder named Lugizar Trantos returned to Absalom after months spent in the Mwangi Expanse. Supposedly, instead of coming straight to the Lodge to report in, he went to Blakros, sold his finds to Nigel, and then disappeared with a hefty sum of gold. The few who glimpsed Lugizar claimed he was much changed by his time in the Mwangi... gaunt, his eyes yellowed and unfocused, a strange rasping cough that seemed to wrack his now wasted frame. Whatever he brought back with him, we believe it is the cause of the Blakros Museum’s ills. Root it out.”
Kuaizi "the Craw" Wu |
The form of a short man with crowish features points, with his taloned index finger, at the museum as they approach. "Caw! This must be the place, honorable companions. Hmmm, ominous mist pours forth from within. Let us proceed with caution."
Dressed in simple yet exotic-looking orange robes and a bamboo hat, the tengu bears a staff in one hand. He glances about, taking in the breadth and features of the museum... it's as if he could see fairly well, despite the darkness of the night. He is also on the alert, seeking to spot or hear anything unusual or dangerous as the party makes its way into the museum's entrance.
As they enter, he asks, "So. What is our plan, then? I suppose we can locate Nigel Aldain-san and speak with him. I would have liked to track down Lugizar Trantos-san first, but we know not where he went off too. Perhaps we can inquire this of Nigel Aldain-san."
What does Kuaizi see and hear?
Perception: 10 + 10 = 20
Evan Blackstone |
Evan only grunts as he half listens to Kuaizi, watching the mist carefully as he follows Kuaizi, edging towards it. "I don't mind what we do first, and I don't care...I don't like the look of this unnatural mist and would prefer we solve the mystery as soon as possible"
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Senja Witherwind |
"Agreed, let us find Nigel at our fastest pace. If he had taken these items, it could have been a trick, and he could be in grave danger. Let me see what, if anything I can determine here before we enter."
Senja waves his hand and whispers a few words Detect Magic
He concentrates on the area, trying to figure out the mist and see what, if anything, else he can see.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Welp, there went my good rolls for this scenario.
Veilwar Nightshade |
"Would not the curator for this museum actually be in the museum? It seems our path lies ahead."
Kuaizi "the Craw" Wu |
"Excellent point, Senja Witherwind-san." Looking at Senja's strange hand waving and whispering, his eyes light up in recognition. "Ah! You are a wizard. How auspicious."
The tengu awaits Senja's findings on the mist (or anything else of note) before proceeding in.
Conlaoch McCullagh |
Conlaoch scratches his head, thinking this is all very strange. "Do we now fear the mist?"
Veilwar Nightshade |
"Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration."
Kuaizi "the Craw" Wu |
Pointing his taloned index finger upwards in a knowing gesture, "Wise words, Veil-san. It is said that fearlessness is a mark of the enlightened mind. However," he now points to the mist, "it is most unusual for mist to be inside a building. An ominous sign, it is. And so, I think caution is warranted."
The crowman waits patiently for Senja to conclude his study of the mist.
GM Beman |
And by closed and unlocked I mean open with mist pouring out of it.
The mist is a unique effect, and the module does not actually specify whether it can even be identified by Detect Magic, but since it is not a spell in effect, per se, actually identifying what, if anything, the mist does cannot be done.
Evan Blackstone |
In that case, might as well push on. If Evan suddenly collapses, clutching his throat, DON't FOLLOW
Evan shoulders his buckler and battleaxe, before setting his face into a determined expression, walking through the doorway and into the mist.
Veilwar Nightshade |
Veil will follow Evan into the museum.
Senja Witherwind |
Senja, a little unhappy about not seeing anything magical about the mist, it makes him much more uncomfortable.
"Some wizard I am..." He frowns as he walks into the museum after Evan.
He recoils a bit from the mist, but prepares his bow and knocks an arrow.
"Let us proceed with caution, my friends."
Evan Blackstone |
Even snorts "How else did you think we would proceed, with bells and whistles and blasted trumpets announcing our arrival?...honestly"
Kuaizi "the Craw" Wu |
"Hmmm, it must be a natural effect, then. Of what cause, we shall find out. Be mindful and alert, friends."
Kuaizi heads up front, staff in hand, ready and alert for anything. He scans all around the interior of the museum as the party enters: the ceiling, the floor, and all around.
Check out the museum inside:
Perception: 10 + 10 = 20
Conlaoch McCullagh |
Perhaps it is one of those new fog machines I saw for sale at Ye Olde Novelty Shoppe
Conlaoch enters the museum with the others, eager to find out what is going on.
GM Beman |
Yeah...I can be kind of an awkward start but I guess I can see the point. I mean, the scenario is called "Mists" of Mwgani. If you could identify and dispel the mist before even setting foot in the building I suppose it would make for a very short adventure!
1. Entrance and Atrium (Link to map under my alias)
An unnatural cold permeates this chamber and the tendrils of silver-gray mist flowing out the front archway into the courtyard beyond seem to effortlessly pierce the flesh and gently caress the bone in a cold embrace. The grand entranceway’s vaulted ceiling is supported by six great pillars of hewn black stone. Braziers mounted on the pillars cast white radiance from balls of continual light. The light glimmers eerily in the silvery haze that fills the atrium, giving the impression of something alien watching from the glowing fog.
Everyone feels a twinge as they breathe in the mist; but most are unaffected. Amelia and Evan, however appear to be taking on the features of an ape.
You have gained the Mist-Tainted Template. In a nutshell:
-Your Intelligence and Charisma scores are both reduced to 6,
-You gain a +2 bonus to Strength and Dexterity scores,
-You are immune to fear,
-You gain a +10 bonus on Climb checks and a climb speed of 20 feet,
-You gain a +5 bonus on Acrobatics and Stealth checks,
-You also gain a slam attack (1d3 damage)
Don't worry...if your mission is successful you'll be back to normal by the end; in the meantime its a great role playing opportunity. Have fun with it!

"Amelia ,,, Evan ,,, do you feel okay?"
Veil will attempt to determine if this change in appearance is simply illusion or real.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Evan Blackstone |
Lol Nat 1 xD, could be worse though, imagine if I was a Sorcerer, Oracle, Wizard, or Arcanist!
Evan only grunts, swinging his arms easily, although struggling to remember the complex stratagem that had been on the tip of his tongue a moment before. I...I think...I think....yes
Jeez, how do you rp 6 INT, especially when you are likely not smart enough to realise you have been affected by something unnatural
Kuaizi "the Craw" Wu |
Kuaizi does a double take on spotting Evan. "Wow. Evan-san was not this hairy before. I mean, he was hairy, yes, but not this hairy." He points to the thick mats of new hair bursting from between his armor pieces.
The monk then scratches his head at Amelia. With a look of deep concern, "And... correct me if I am wrong, but I do not believe it is normal for human women to have beards? Do you feel well Amelia-chan?"
"This must explain Lugizar Trantos-san's transformation." Kuaizi looks around the room wide-eyed. "But... what is causing this, I wonder?"
Resolve comes over his face. "We should seek immediate care for our honorable... apish? ...companions. And I suspect the cause, and perhaps the cure, lie here, within this museum. Nigel Aldain-san may have answers. Shall we continue on and find our honorable curator?"
Kuaizi looks around for where to go next.
Conlaoch McCullagh |
"I believe Kuaizi-san has it right. Let's press on, as long as no one is hurt or too concerned."
Conlaoch starts to walk past the pillars.
GM Beman |
As Evan searches the area for bananas, the group presses on away from the foyer. You come across a door above which a placard reads “The Honored Dead” in blood-red calligraphy.
West Exhibit Hall Map updated
The mists here congeal into a thick and silvery fog that cools the lungs. Arranged throughout this large hall are exhibits on the funerary traditions of several civilizations, along with preserved corpses arrayed in grim stillness. A giant warrior looms from the haze, his arms crossed at his chest, his helm solemn and still. Beyond lie sarcophagi of varied designs, and a few glass cases wherein withered dead are held upright by rods and string; grim exhibits of long-dead citizens whose fallen empires were erased an age past.
As you enter the room you are greeted by the sight of several corpses rising from their undead slumber. One is a withered, mummified creature bearing a jeweled scarab on its chest among its spiced wrappings. Another is a hulking skeleton who wields a great club fashioned from a mammoth’s ivory tusk. The third is a shrunken, emaciated corpse wrapped in rotten silks holding a silvered scimitar in its bony fists. Finally there is an armored warrior clad in heavy discolored bronze plates and helm.

With a very unladylike ape call, Amelia darts forward on seeing the enemy. Bounding forward, she climbs atop a display case.

I added in my dex modifier based on new stats. If this isnt correct, please tell me and I will adjust accordingly.

Amelia and Evan move themselves into more strategic positions while Senja sinks an arrow into the ghoul. The two skeletons close in and attack Evan as Veilwar sinks another arrow into the ghoul.
Kuaizi and Conlaoch are up.
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Two swings, two misses
The mists are unlike anything you've encountered, but it is evident that breathing in the mists causes some humanoids to take on the features of an ape. You're pretty sure the effect is not permanent.
The ghoul is particularly dangerous; its bite or scratch can cause ghoul fever. The skeletons are resistant to any damage other than that caused by blunt objects.

"Evan-san! Caw!" Kuaizi, stunned at first to see such unnatural creatures, springs to action in defense of his new companion. He swiftly moves in, flinging his lithe body up into a somersault past the statue before him. As he comes down, he makes a rapid stab at the skeleton with his staff, but goes wide. Landing gracefully in a flanking position with Evan, he now encircles himself in a defensive barrier with his twirling staff.
Avoid AoO from skellie:
