None of the scientist seems to have weapon, one of them is outright killed by Darius' blade as its weapon break the neck of the poor man.
Faldoc grapple one, and the other begin to fall back terrorized by the murdering Pathfinders. They look at each other with terror. They seems - for now - to judge what's better, staying here or be killed by the men standing between what lays ahead and their only hope of survival...
You have 10 round of action
Remember : Violent ringing alarms fill the installation with a shrill, incessant racket. While the alarms are active, all creatures within the facility take a –10 penalty on Perception checks related to hearing.
Kurik Grandhelm |
I believe he meant your nonlethal damage was enough to kill the second man outright. 50 points of damage can be lethal to someone with less than 25HP.
GM Ilmakis |
@Darius, the man wasn't put down by the first hit, but the second was enough to kill him even in non lethal
@Dudlgey you can try to calm down the people with a diplomacy check. Other with at least a +10 in diplomacy can help.
Darius Swiftblade |
Darius frowns as the man dies from the swiping blow.. "I told yall I was serious, now look what you made me do!"
GM Ilmakis |
With the right choice of tone and the help of Shirley, Dudley is able to calm down the scientists' crowd. After a moment of hesitation, they begin to talk among themselves until two figures hemerge.
They present themselves as researchers Worid Ornestra and Klaria Vlock. They explain they were hired by Professor Kramolag to help her investigate varied aspects of the anatomy and biochemistry of Darklands natives, and now blaring alarms indicate one or more serious accidents have triggered drastic security protocols.
They tries to get out, but Uval -who was the first to touch the door- was killed by the door's protection and no one since then has wanted to try again. They were 32, now only 30 of them are still alive.
Once Shirley have time to observe the scientists, most of them have a faint aura of evil, but not all.
Remember : Violent ringing alarms fill the installation with a shrill, incessant racket. While the alarms are active, all creatures within the facility take a –10 penalty on Perception checks related to hearing.
Shirley |
Shirley flies forward and speaks..
"We are here after Kramolag. Give us what, if any, information about the complex and any other traps or personel. Then hand over any written information you might have. Then you may leave."
"And what do you mean, accident?"
GM Ilmakis |

At Shirley words Worid says. Danger? Yes, there is a roper in the Organics Laboratory before he briefly delves into a highly technical description of such creatures’strand-like appendages and the species’ physiological similarities to garden snails before being join by other researcher contradicting or agreeing with him.
Ohter also have numerous complaints about the cramped labs, the pace of work, and the bad living conditions.
Securing more useful information requires a significant time investment—specifically and takes at least 30 minutes of questioning, listening, tracking down someone who knows more than the others, and convincing that person to share those secrets.
If you take this time, you can attempt a Bluff, Diplomacy (gather information), or Intimidate check.
Although alien and monstrous in shape, the roper is in fact one of the most intelligent denizens of the deep caverns of the world. They do not form large societies (although ropers can be found living among some deep-dwelling denizens like the intellect devourers or neothelids, with whom they have been known to sometimes ally), but often congregate in small clusters. Particularly interested in the philosophy of life and death and the finer points of the more cruel and sinister religions of the world, a roper can talk or argue for hours with those it initially sought merely to eat. Stories speak of particularly skilled debaters and philosophers who have been kept for days or even years as pets or conversational companions by roper clusters, but in the end, if such pets don't eventually escape, a roper's appetite always wins out over its intellectual curiosity—especially in cases where pets are constantly outmaneuvering their keeper's wits and patience.
A roper is 9 feet tall and weighs 2,200 pounds.

Know Dung: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (5) + 23 = 28
"That does not sound plesant.." He explains what a Roper is..
I don't think we have 30 minutes to question them.. Since I didn't notice a ship outside maybe they will still be there when we are done and we can interrogate then..
Shirley |
"Why don't yall go outside and take a rest. We can talk more after we are done investigating the place.. We will arrange for a boat to come and take you back to the mainland at that time. Please do not attempt to flee to island as I'm not sure the sharks would give you such a good deal.."
Faldoc Tisbane |
Is there a way to turn those alarms off? And should we fear something coming up here to investigate? Faldoc isn't too keen or staying where blaring alarms are present.
GM Ilmakis |
Remember : Violent ringing alarms fill the installation with a shrill, incessant racket. While the alarms are active, all creatures within the facility take a –10 penalty on Perception checks related to hearing.
Looking around, which take 1 minutes Faldoc is able to find from where the shrill comes from.
There is your ship but is too small to have so many people in.
The scientist seems to agree to Shirley's proposal and begin to get out of the complex by the small shack.
GM Ilmakis |
Faldoc is able to destroy the room alarms but everyone is able to hear that other are still in place in the complex. The penalty to perception hearing is reduce to -4
After letting go the scientist the team descend the stairs that lead down about 40 feet into a room of pristine white tiles with shining steel doors on the south and east walls.
Like a gallery display, a glass column stands near the center of the room, rising from floor to ceiling. Within, a nine-foot-tall mass of agitated violet mold writhes through a bubbling fluid.
This strain of Darklands algae is suspended in a mixture of water and mild vinegar, which causes it to endlessly dance amid the bubbles it produces. The algae seems neither animate nor dangerous;
The steel door on the south is marked "Organics Laboratory" the other one is marked "Processing Laboratory".
Remember : Violent ringing alarms fill the installation with a shrill, incessant racket. While the alarms are active, all creatures within the facility take a –10 penalty on Perception checks related to hearing. (the penalty can be reduce to -4 by finding the alarm with a 1 mn search and destroying it (hardness 4 and 10HP).
Darius Swiftblade |
"Well they said the Roper is in the Organics Lab, yall wanna try to deal with it first or see whats up in the other Lab?"
Darius Swiftblade |
"Right.. I'll take point. Any traps on the doors Faldoc?"
He casts Mirror Image as he waits for the ranger to check it out.
Images: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 8 of him total.
He enhances his weapon to +5 fiery for 2 min as a swift action as well..
Faldoc Tisbane |
Faldoc agrees that facing the known threat is the best idea. He'll examine the areas for nasty things and such.
Perception: 1d20 + 28 ⇒ (1) + 28 = 29 Egad.
GM Ilmakis |
As you open the door to this lab, a thick, foul- smelling, yellow vapor spills forth. it prevents you from seeing more than 5 feet into the room.
Kurik Grandhelm |
"I'll be glad to have picked up this adaptation." Kurik observes, patting the necklace under his beard.
Darius Swiftblade |
Magic Gas? Shirley has constant detect magic.
"Depending on what it is I have a scroll that can fix the problem.."
Basalte |
GM, is it possible to consider that Basalte basically trailed off a little to find and disable the alarm? If so let me know when I catch up.
GM Ilmakis |
After a few seconds the Pathfinders are able to see what's inside the room before the yellow smoke covers it again.
Cylindrical tanks and vertical restraints stand between worktables covered in glassware and gleaming metal devices. Shattered beakers and colorful stains smear the tiled, ivory- white floor. A bay of complex but apparently damaged machinery stands at the room’s rear. Sparks flicker and fumes whine as they escape the mechanisms. That's clearly from where the smoke comes.
But more importantly three creatures stands in the back of the room, a strange rockish creature with multiple tentacles trying to get free of its shackles and away of the two other creatures, one of them seeming to only be the fleshy remnant of the one who just get free of its shackles !
The large monster has ten spidery legs, a head writhing with dripping tentacles above a clutch of red eyes, and three whipping stingers.
Know. (planes) for the two creatures the rockish one being indeed a roper

Once in front of the door it concentrates.

Horrific Appearance (Su)Creatures that succumb to a thulgant's horrific appearance are stunned for 1d4 rounds and take 1d6 points of Wisdom damage.
Savage Stingers (Ex) If a thulgant hits a single target with all three stings in the same round, it tears through the victim's body, dealing an extra 3d6+12 points of damage and draining an additional 2 ability points from all six of the victim's ability scores. A single DC 27 Fortitude save negates all of this additional ability drain.
DR15/cold iron and lawful
None of Darius attacks hit the creature and only one of Faldoc's arrows finds its way in the creature's flesh but without much damages.
Shirley's force missile seem to go through tought !

"Fear not, earthen friend, we shall free you." grumbles the oread, clearly dismayed at having no way of entering the room.
Sighing, he draws his wand of shield with a flick of the wrist, uses it, then puts it in his belt.

Blessings of Fervor on the party."
Dudley Benfare |
I don't have a map (or know where it is), but was told that I had cover from the qlippoth. I assumed I would need more than 5' of movement to get a clear shot at the critter.
I was 7 short on damage since it is the first attack of a smite on an evil outsider.
Darius Swiftblade |
It's linked at the top, Wingless Roc Entrance, and you started round in melee so you could just 5' step back and make 3 attacks I think.. Also you are not factoring in the +4 to hit from smite I dont think.
Kurik Grandhelm |
The door is the 5ft white bar below Darius. Kurik and Dudley have walls between them and the creature.
Dudley Benfare |
That would explain it. Ok, so even if step back I can't avoid cover.
