GM Ilmakis |
Only those able to see through Darius' invisibility see Darius get teleported inside the cage.
Darius safely came back near his comrades. Except for the klaxon, nothing.

"I would advise noone to step into that hallway.. It's trapped with a dimension door that teleports you inside that cage and then you get hit with a baleful polymorph.. Let's go the other way shall we?"
Kurik Grandhelm |
"Glad I picked up those beads..."
GM Ilmakis |
The Pathfinders reenter in the room full of greenish fog and look at the door.
After looking at the door and finding nothing, Darius opens it revealing a dim hall with thick glass columns filled with brackish liquid and masses of stringy flesh occupying numerous niches along this hall. At the end of the dim hall, books and sheaves of loose paper cram a wall of shelves.
Faldoc Tisbane |
Faldoc will send Boomer into the room to see if he can sense anything. I have him, might as well try to remember to use him once in a while.
Boomer Perception, with Scent: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (3) + 14 = 17 So much for that idea.
GM Ilmakis |
All the glass column radiatate strong abjuration and conjuration magic. The floor, walls and ceiling radiatate magic, but mostly feint.
Boomer seems quite uneasy next to the glass column.
@Faldoc Remember that Boomer is Exhausted like you and Darius
What seems the most interestant in the room are the numerous, books, papers that cram the shelves.
Darius Swiftblade |
Darius used his lesser resto wand before going down the hallway..
"Somthing's up with the columns.. I suggest we move through without messing with them."
Still invisible Darius sneaks through..
Stealth: 1d20 + 15 + 20 ⇒ (6) + 15 + 20 = 41
Shirley Stealth: 1d20 + 29 ⇒ (10) + 29 = 39
GM Ilmakis |
Lesser restoration put you to fatigued
Darius path without problem the hall with the glass columns and moves next to the numerous books, papers and other writing displayed on the shelves.
Darius Swiftblade |
Darius will search for relevant infomation and perhaps secret doors..
Take 20 if possible, if not 10 for a 28. If take 20 is allowed the rest of the group should have time to heal/fix exhaustion etc since it takes 2 minutes.
GM Ilmakis |
The room holds notes, case files, reports, lab journals, workbooks, schedules, scribbles, and the like—hundreds of thousands of pages of text, in both the finest and sloppiest handwriting imaginable. After 3 mn passed and its invisibility wears off he is still trying to make sense of all the notes and informations.
The labor of piecing together the documents’ larger picture is simulated by using the Research subsystem (see Pathfinder RPG Ultimate Intrigue 148).
You are also certain that their is no secret passage/secret door of any kind.
To everyone if you need to use spells, consumables or abilities to heal/remove exhaustion you can use this time
Faldoc Tisbane |
If Darius would allow the use of his wand I can get myself and Boomer to fatigued.
Darius Swiftblade |
The wand has only 1 charge left, but he has a scroll with 5 castings on it as well. He auto umd's all of it so you and boomer and consider yourselves fatigued now..
"I think it best we just take all of this paperwork with us to decifer later.." He stuffs it all into a haversack..
"That hallway is going to be tricky.. Does anyone have a stoneshape spell handy, or perhaps a dimension door? We could maybe bypass that trap if so.."
Considering the layout and that we saw the door in the hallway I don't think it unreasonable that he came to that solution. If you think otherwise GM we can try something else..[/ooc]
Kurik Grandhelm |
Kurik looks over the sheafs of paper. "Useful stuff, but our magic will only last so long." he agrees, helping Darius to load up the library. "I've a prayer of transportation to get us past the hall, but I don't know that it's powerful enough to carry us all. And there is the question of getting back out."
Darius Swiftblade |
"I have a scroll that can get us out if need be, so I wouldn't wory about that.. Pretty sure multiple of us will end up in the cage as frogs if we step into that hallway.."
GM Ilmakis |
What type of bag did you have? The notes, books are in such numbers that they could be too big to all be taken by you.
@Darius Stone Shape could work
GM Ilmakis |
Having not enough contener to take all the content from the archives here, the Pathfinder must make a crucial (or not) choice.
Leave the documents here - hoping to have time to collect them later - and continue their exploration of the complex or take time to go through them which will take quite some time according to Davius first guess.
I let you discuss your choice :
1- Continue your exploration
2- Take time to understand what's going on here by reading the document
Darius Swiftblade |
Faldoc appears to have an efficient quiver and a handy haversack as well. Thats 36 cubic feet of storage and 360 pounds worth. Mine has roughly 20 pounds of items in it, so thats 340 pounds still. Not sure how much is in the others bags, and that does not included the efficient quiver.
Faldoc Tisbane |
Right, I should have room in both for at least some of the documents.
GM Ilmakis |
An efficient quiver can hold only what it says (arrows, spears and thing like that).
The material on the shelves are books, papers, and other thing representing between 70 to 105 cubic feet of material.
You can take as much documents as you can, but not the whole thing.
Kurik Grandhelm |
I thought they had text in the guide about having the bags and portage to carry out loot, but it appears to be missing.
Kurik shrugs. "I'm not keen on the thought of researching a whole library in the middle of dangerous territory. At the very least we should turn off the blasted alarms." The dwarf shoots a sour look in the direction of the noise. "If we're going to deal with the rest of the complex, I'd prefer to do it before Adabar's patience runs out."
GM Ilmakis |
@Kurik, this is not loot, it's a complete library!
For the loot I doesn't count what you can take or not ;-)
Kurik Grandhelm |
We're Pathfinders, a library is the greatest loot of all!
Darius Swiftblade |
"Ok so take these papers here and let's try to move on. Any ideas on how to get pass the hallway?"
Taking the most significant papers at first glance and leaving the rest for now. hopefully we can return to get it later.
Kurik Grandhelm |
"Stone shape." Kurik mutters. "Next time, I pray for stone shaping. In any event, I have some transport magics that can help bypass the hallway."
Unfortunately, only up to 3 extra Medium creatures.
GM Ilmakis |
As Darius, Faldoc, Kurik and Dudley continue to explore the complex et find a way to stop the Klaxon, Basalte shaken by his near death experience begins to carrying books to the surface.
After a while, you find one of the source of the klaxon's power inside the shackle cell where you fought the Thulgant. Faldoc is able to use his talents to reduce the sound made by the klaxons. Penalty reduce by 4
The group is again in front of the corridor, where the trap is set.
Darius Swiftblade |
Gm, I believe Kurik was going to use dimension door to open a portal on the other side of the door that we can see down the hallway. That should bypass the traps.. Or I suppose Faldoc could try and disarm them if possible.
GM Ilmakis |
Tell me what is your action and what Shirley does if Kurik get you on the other side of the door (put your character where you want to go, witout revealing the map).
Darius Swiftblade |
I'll let everyone confer thats what they wanna do beforehand. I don't wanna make decisions for people's characters.
Faldoc Tisbane |
I can make the attempt at disarming them if you'd like, Faldoc would agree to try if we want to wait on the DD.
Kurik Grandhelm |
If Faldoc can disarm it and save resources, Kurik is willing to offer his Bead of Newt Prevention as a safeguard.
Faldoc Tisbane |
Faldoc will give it a go then.
DD: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (20) + 25 = 45
Well!
GM Ilmakis |
With quite an expertise, Faldoc disarms the trap!
With care, the Pathfinders move toward the next door and after looking for traps, finding none, open it.
The door gives way to a simple room which contains numerous chests, lockers, and crates that store bedrolls, ingredients, spare clothing, and other necessary materials for operating a secret laboratory far from civilization. A closed door is visible on the east wall.
Shirley senses some magic in the room, after a few seconds she's able to detect three magical auras, one moderate and two faints inside some of the boxes.
Darius Swiftblade |
"Check those boxes for traps please Faldoc. There seems to be some magics in them.."
If we locate the items without any issues..
Spellcraft: 3d20 ⇒ (17, 20, 2) = 39 [occ]+25 to those rolls, if the 2 fails Shirley can roll as well.[/ooc]
GM Ilmakis |
Most of the boxes contains mundane equipement. In the ones containing magic Darius is able to determine that two of the magical item are sustaining spoons and the last is a decanter of endless water.
GM Ilmakis |
Faldoc check the door and find nothing. The door is not locked and once everyone's ready, Darius opens it.
The door opens in large room. Inside, stone pylons form a perimeter around a deep vat caked with a viscous tarry sludge. A steel bridge crosses to a smaller workstation, and a series of tubes and conduits run from the vat to the ceiling to pass through various walls on their way to unseen destinations.
Shirley senses some remnant magic coming from the viscous tarry sludge.
will update the map in a few hours
Faldoc Tisbane |
That looks nasty enough. Is the sludge itself magic or is something contained within it, I wonder.
Faldoc tries to scan the area with his eyes, hoping to detect additional clues.
Perception: 1d20 + 28 ⇒ (1) + 28 = 29
Boomer will see if he can smell anything as well.
