Sorry for the lack of posting this weekend. Was with my younger son's baseball team in another tournament. They placed 2nd so it was another long weekend at the ball park.
I plan on posting at least once a day throughout this week. It would be great if we can all post at least once a day Monday to Friday. I want our two parties meshed sooner rather than later.
I have another tournament we are travelling to this coming weekend so I doubt I will have time to post over Saturday/Sunday. Next weekend however I am off and will be heading to our lake house to relax and do some fishing. I plan on doing some posting over that time as well.

Yeah, that is one of the most frustrating aspects of this sort of crawl, those playing follow the leader can either have conversations or a lot of posts become "Yep, still following." Really doesn't matter whether it is outside following the Ranger tracking, in a dungeon setting following the trapfinder, or what. The mechanics of following somebody else is pretty much the same.
Gathered around a forum like this, though, we need to make some sort of post so that everyone knows we're paying attention. Not like we're gathered around a table where somebody can literally reach out and touch you to get you to refocus, ya know?
Naia Temlow |
Paying attention! We're still in the wizard's demi-planar inverted nemeton right?

I had to check that you didn’t list N1 Against the Cult of the Reptile God as one of our Greyhawk adventure in the Recruitment way back when...it’s a great module, and I tried to do it justice. I ran it for my brother many many years ago, I’m pretty sure it didn’t happen nearly as badly as what happened to Naia’s gram and her gang.
As for the characters, Safiya (Sifaya?) I invented whole cloth for the story. Vartis is an anagram of Travis, my own 1/2 Elf F/MU/C (well before “Tanis” came along, copycat!) who never ventured anywhere near Hochoch. Br’luk was actually an orc who may or may not have ever been in an adventure and was an NPC anyway. Bùggfa is distantly torn from a MERP dwarf character of mine badly named “Fugg Balogg” by my much, much, but sadly not enough to make it okay younger self.

It was well done. I had some strange names for a few of my characters as well. I loved MERP...loved all the maps in it when I was a kid. Plus I was in the midst of reading all of Tolkien's books for like the third time...

Well, I am now in the process of preparing a short MERP adventure for some friends - I have many of the books, and am always blown away by the amount of information in the ICE/MERP supplements, though I have to admit I haven't fully read most of them.
My group shudders at the thought of MERP and Rolemaster, but I think the first time around the game was a bit overshadowed by those AMAZING critical tables :D
But I do think the sourcebooks deserve justice, and since they are written for MERP/Rolemaster (and I always wanted to give the system another go - love the Rolemaster flexibility to build the character EXACTLY how you want), after some soulsearching (was also pondering using GURPS instead) I decided to dust them up and give it another go. Nothing fancy - MERP system 2nd edition, premade characters, and a short scenario.
We'll see how things go. Was just about to continue reading the adventure when I saw this post, and thought it was a funny coincidence :D

MERP/Rolemaster has some pretty interesting concepts on character build and the critical charts are a thing of beauty :)

Wow... I had no idea there were so many MERP fans around :D
I would honestly invite you to join the game, but our pace is usually agonizingly slow... This time around, re-learning rules (me and the players), it should be even worse - but if you have enough patience for that, you are welcome to join the team - let me know ;)

Friday I will be heading out to our lakehouse. I plan on doing some fishing with my boys and a lot of relaxing. As I get time I will post so if you have time feel free to post.
Have an awesome time!

I think we are in one of those disconnected timelines, where you can talk for hours if you want while we're in the house, with no real concern about how the time spent between the two compares. Unless combat starts for some reason. I'm not thinking it will, honestly.
Naia Temlow |
Heh, I'm totally fine with disconjunctive timelines. Because dragons. Was more letting other folks post in between...
Narciso Virbaldi |
I agree. Narciso is happy to have the chance to chat with Naia. She's everything that he's not (brave warrior, grew up in one place, has stories about previous generations of family, knows about the sea, etc.) and even just hearing about it is good. But I don't want anyone getting lost in the clutter. On one of the boards I was on a few years ago the GM could create any number of threads within the game thread. Sometimes it was fun to have a "general chat" thread for in character chatting that had nothing to do with advancing the story.
Ferona Ardomil |
You could also create spoilers for any general chat, just mark them as Flex-time so you can chat to your heart's content :)
Naia Temlow |
Mostly why I spoiler'd Naia's tale to keep the clutter down. I do dislike endless spoilers however, it feels a liitle sparse. A weird relationship I have to presentation of text. As much as I hate endless spoilers, I am sad that in my skimming to find my group's posts I have gleaned enough to know as a player that Zove is dead...

I have been going through some rough personal stuff lately and I am sorry that I have not been as active as I would like. The quantity of my posts is not there nor is the quality. Planning to move in a couple of months (again) with the drama of personal life and the stress of figuring out all the logistics of the schools for the kids, housing, new doctors and my wife's career is just one huge quagmire of red tape and hoops to jump through. This has all led me to a state of total physical, mental and emotionally drained.
I plan to keep up as best I can with the games but as I know you understand, this is a game and will take a back seat to RL.
Bot me as you need to. I hope and pray that this mess is resolved soon and life goes back to normal.
Naia Temlow |
Understood jovich. I hope you can still make it to your hut from time to time...

All,
I am not sure if this feasible so I will throw it out there for us to see if there is interest.
I did this for PBP came years back and it really helped us move our story along at times.
Real Time PBP. We work out a schedule for us all to be online at the same time and dedicate that time for posting. I figure we could do 30 minutes or 1 hour whatever is feasible. Post you are on in the Discussion thread. Once everyone is on we start.
If feasible I can do Wednesday’s 9pm to 11pm central time. Saturday/Sunday I can do a 9am to 11 am time frame on days we are at home. My family sleeps in late when we don’t have sports, fishing, or hunting on the weekends but I am early riser. I am open to other times as well, just throwing those times out there. We have eight in the party total with two groups of five and three. So we could work around the groups and a general rule of we need at least two thirds of the group to do a RT-PBP session.
We could see about doing one a month so we build up the momentum a bit.

Sunday morning is out for me. (church, and I sing in the choir)
The others mentioned work.

I like this idea, and I think I can do this on Wednesday evenings (Sundays are out for me as well). Keep in mind I go to bed early on weeknights (between 8-8:30 pm PST) so my time is limited.
One suggestion here is to do this when we need to push things along. Combat would be the best times to do this since that chews up the most time in PbP.

I have been going through some rough personal stuff lately...
I am quite sure me and my family must have set some sort of record for the times we have moved these past 4 years, so believe me I can certainly understand.
Take time to sort everything out with massive amounts of calm, and try to have moments of relaxation and family time in-between, before it all grates on your sanity. All the best!

I like the idea - I am in Europe, so we will need a time zone reference though ;)
GMT?
Naia Temlow |
I'm in Australia, and my schedule is all over the place. I think if you let me know a few days in advance, and a time reference I might he able to do it. The only thing is that with everyone on at once we are much more likely to cross post, which could get really old really fast.
Dogryn Amaidar |
I can not commit to a set day. The reason that I got into PBP games was that I did not need to worry about a set time and day needed to play.

Totally understand. I am just spitting balling some ideas I have used to move our game along. It is nothing set in stone and I understand that some of us play PBP to be able to play without a set schedule.

All,
If we ever do decide to do RT-PBP here is our GMT time zones:
Baseline- GMT(Western European Time - WET).
Central (NA) Time - GMT (-6) (Myself/Hustonj)
There are different time zones for Europe:
WET (GMT) - baseline
CET/WAT (Central European/West Afric GMT +1
EET (Eastern European) GMT +2
Australia is covered by four time zones (GMT +7 to GMT +10)

PBP is a multi-point solution for me.
Ease of access.
Eliminate scheduling conflicts.
Just got back from a backpacking campout. Have another campout (at the same campground, actually, about 90 minute drive out and with no cellular signal) where I am supposed to run the archery range next week.
Every Tuesday, 3 Thursdays a month, 1 to 3 weekends a month, and scattered individual weeknights (going to visit other units) are given over to Scouting every month.
It is possible to line things up, but it ain't going to work quickly unless you just get plain lucky.
