I am going to clear out some of the former PC's as it is getting cumbersome to manage them all but I don't like them simply "poofing" out of existence.

In the next few posts you will see that injuries Thout received that were laced in poison caused some serious damage to his body. He had critical failure so I am going to attribute that to him having to recover over a longer period of time. So he will head home to recover from his wounds.

Soros is going to take an NPC role that will support the party going forward and I will move him into a Town Watch "Mage". You will see this all play out over the next week or so. I have dropped a few hints about some things that are about to happen.

Edan will stay on board as a NPC mostly because he is friends with Rabalar and his background and current events don't make it easy to move him out of the party. I will let this happen organically as we progress in the story. I also really like Edan as a character that can offer some wise advice at the right moments :)

It would also be completely reasonable to have Edan return to his employer as they leave town. Whichever works better with how you want to try to get the story told.

You forgot Zove. Zove will play the part of a murdered corpse as she is dead.

Something to mention for the House Party. You will need to review the items found and were brought back from the house.

Just a heads up about this weekend. I will be off line this weekend as I will be heading out do some bass and crappie fishing with my boys. I will be back on line Sunday night.

I will get posts up today as you add posts in throughout the day.

Hey. Real life.

I live in a 3 generation home.

This last weekend, both of the youngest generation (one is 2 the other just had her first birthday) got sick. So did their mom. Monday so did their dad. Somewhere in there, grandma got sick, too. Now I'm sick. At least the youngest seems to be over it.

If you need to bot me to keep things moving, please do.

I'm sorry, but I'm not even managing to focus to play spades on my phone right now, and that's amazingly brainless.

Male human (Oeridian) Cleric of St. Cuthbert;

Peran would probably have his armour on (I believe he donned it before going out to the forest) and will have his baton (club). He always has his holy symbol and his coin purse, but everything else will be in his room at the inn.

I am going to let the party at Naia's house role play out their time for a bit as I handle Peran, Antas, and Ferona. Once I get that completed I will get us to the morning :)

Just a heads up. Next Friday I am heading to Angel Fire, NM to spend Christmas on the mountain skiing. I will be posting but I can't promise it will be a lot until we get back home. I tend to ski all day or at least until my body tells me to stop...

Apologies for the lack of posting guys - had a medical emergency last Thursday, and I am still recovering from it... Trying to catch up as best as possible.

I will also grab this opportunity to let you know I will (hopefully) be travelling from the 18th to the 27th to visit family over the Christmas holidays, so posting will definitely be spotty.

No worries Grond. I suspect posting will be spotty for all of us through the holiday break.

I will have posts up tonight. Have been in the middle of a soccer tourney with my oldest son all weekend. Last game is getting ready to start in a few moments.

Jack

The holiday season is fast arriving and will soon be upon us. With that will be a slow down in posting for most of us. I will do my best to post as I can but I will be up in the mountains and internet access is limited (at best) come this Saturday. I will be traveling on Friday from Dallas to Angel Fire. I will also be skiing as much as I can with my boys while there since they can both ski blacks now and I am bound and determined to out ski them this year :) (Not going to happen but here is to hoping :) )

Once the holidays are over I would like to get us really going and one of the things I am going to ask is we try and keep our post rate up. I would really like for us to follow our House Rule on post rate:

One Gameplay Post per weekday and post in Gameplay on the weekends when you can. That should at a minimum give us five gameplay posts a week from every player. I totally realize we all get busy but as a baseline, we should try to hold to this post rate. I was looking back at our post rate this past year and it dropped off by a bit. More like two to three posts per week and in some cases one post per week. I would like to see that pick up for everyone as best we can :)

I hope everyone has a great Holiday and a Merry Christmas.

Jack

Hopefully all is well. Just got internet access at the top and I am taking a break. I am quickly realizing my body is not as young as it used to be. :)

Did your family and house escape the fire and damage?

Thankfully the boys can ski blacks by themselves now or I would be in trouble.

The generic post to share before attempting to recovery post:

So, I got the flu. Not really over it, yet, but past the worst of it.

I went to get tested to verify it was flu, and the care providers went down the "better safe than sorry hole" a might to far, in my opinion.

Standard questions, designed to check for other, deeper concerns/problems, right? "Do you have any tightness in your chest?" "I've been coughing for about three days at this point, yes, I have a tightness in my chest!" So, they stopped everything about verifying the flu in order to check for a heart attack. Thing is, my fever had just started to break, and I was not only DRENCHED in sweat, but I was still actively sweating that hard. They couldn't get a good EKG read because the contact stickers wouldn't. Stick, I mean.

They called an ambulance and transferred me to an ER, to make sure I wasn't having a heart attack. The ER team was focused on EXACTLY one thing, for obvious reasons. First thing they did different? They took that super medical tape and taped the sensors down. EKG told them almost immediately that there was no heart attack going on. I was still in that ER for nearly 15 hours . . ..

IV fluids. Roughly 2.4 liters of fluid pushed into my system. Breathing treatment. Seems when I arrived in the ER, my O2 saturation was around 82. They started to admit me in order to watch my O2 saturation levels, but after I sat in their ER for that long without any further dips, they accepted it might not still be required and discharged me instead of continuing to wait for a room. Having an asthmatic wife means we have a nebulizer at home, and that helped sell the release, too. Still spending more time asleep than awake, for now.

Missed a couple of Santa gigs the family had lined up. Went to a photoshoot with a family yesterday. I was there for about 10 minutes, just needing to sit and smile, but I stumbled into the house when I got home, completely exhausted. I'm supposed to go get caught in a neighbor's house tonight. Very worried about going. Just as worried about denying their kids.

@Jack: thanks to the efforts of the RFS (Rural Fire Service) my house and half a dozen others at my end of he street were saved on Saturday night. 16 of 30 houses were destroyed. I went back in on Sunday morning, requiring two different escorts through the firegrounds (downed power lines, fallen trees etc) and arrived just in time to find my perimeter on fire and fire below my neighbours on both sides. Between my fire hose and the fireys’ hose we put out those. We had no power until Christmas Eve when giant power plant generators were installed at either end of our street.

We had Christmas at home with lights on the tree, watching the ridge across from us burn. We were very lucky and many in my community (including six members of our small local fire brigade) lost their homes. Much of the surrounding forest is blackened sticks, no leaves, reminiscent of a North American winter, though one hit by an apocalypse.

Male human (Oeridian) Cleric of St. Cuthbert;

We had the same here in Northern Alberta this summer. Our town was lucky that we were out of the immediate fire area, but we were an evacuation centre for many of the small communities north of us. As a town employee, I was required to man the centre. There were so many highs and lows during the 5 weeks we were activated it took a toll on many staff, but in the end, we did our jobs and helped many people get the help they needed. It was a very humbling experience. I am glad your place was spared and send my heartfelt prayers to those affected by this tragedy. If you need anything, or if there is a funding page to help those out who lost their homes, let me know!

Gald you are feeling better Rab...very scary though!! I hope you get well soon!

To everyone else...Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Kinda glad this decade is over!!

Technically, decades run from 1 through 10, not 0 through 9. The calendar wasn't backwards designed with a year 0. It started at 1.

One of the more common misunderstandings out there.

Sure, but we’ll soon be in the 20’s again. So flappers, bobs, Art Nouveau, Crowley and stock market crashes can all be in vogue again.

LOL...ok that is funny.

Ok, I am back in town and will have posts up today for us but no rush from anyone as it is still the holiday.

Interesting week. We rented a cabin on the top of Angel Fire mountain and the heating and hot water went out and we had a fire in the basement at the furnace ventilation system. Luckily my in-laws were in the cabin during the day and put it out. The skiing was great but the stay in the cabin was not wonderful. My wife has been going to that mountain since she was a little girl so it is sort of a family tradition. We have been taking the boys for nine years now and we love the resort. We usually get a full suite and just stay at the resort but this year we decided to rent a cabin and spend the whole Christmas at the ski resort. Not sure we will do that again (cabin) as it was a bit isolating for the rest of the family. Me personally I like it...I would live on a mountain in a heartbeat as I like the wilderness and isolation (at times).

Got to go see the Rise of Skywalker (new Star Wars movie) in Taos on Christmas day. I won't spoil it for anyone that has not watched it but I enjoyed the movie. Did a nice job of concluding some major storylines and setting up the next series of movies.

Who has watched the Witcher series on NetFlix? Interested in everyone's thoughts? I just started listening to Last Wish on Audible and I am enjoying it. They appear to be using Last Wish as the first season but tying in other books (not sure about that) into the season to fill out the stories. I am enjoying both the book and the series but it starts off a bit slow in the series. It has the makings of a good show from what I can tell. Love the set up of the world but I don't know that much about it as I have never played the games and this is the first time with the Witcher world (Books and Series).

Sorry to hear about your neighbor's homes. Is there a GoFundMe or anything we can donate to help them out? Hopefully, this is the worst and your New Year (the entire next year) is awesome and packed full of great surprises :)

Seriously if there is any way to donate please let me know. Would love to help our Aussie friends.

You need to roll perception. If you can beat his Stealth roll he doesn't get the sneak attack damage (4 points) which means you are at 0 and still alive as you have a 14 CON and can go -2 before being dead.

My suggestion is you use a hero point to ensure you live :) But that is up to you.

Ok, these are just questions, because I have played stealth based combatants and never managed to pull that off.

It is possible to go into stealth, move and attack with sneak attack on the same turn?

I think there is a rule of some sort that if you start the round 'visible', then this combo is not possible? Not sure, just throwing it out there.

Of course this is all mute if Antas was not aware of him to start with - maybe that is the case :P

Sorry I didn’t answer this sooner. The man was concealed and none of the party really saw him.

I think that cover or concealment is what gives you the ability to break "observation" and be in “stealth”.

There is no normal way to keep from being observed. Hearing goes around cover and through walls (within in reason). It is my belief that, "finding cover or concealment allows you to use Stealth" and is enough.

This is a comment that was posted on this board a while back that I agree with:

Komodo 6/15/2015:

“If you have cover or concealment at the beginning of the round and you use it to hide, I am fine with that.

IMHO, there is a huge difference between being "in stealth" and a target not knowing you are there.

Just being is stealth is like when a person knows you are there but they cannot see you. They know you are hiding behind the tree and that you are going to pop out and shoot an arrow at them. They just don't know when or from which side. Therefore it takes longer for them to react. As such, you can gain the benefits of them being flat-footed and sneak attack damage. The target is well within their rights to walk up to you and smack you, shoot a fireball, or take cover of their own.

Not knowing you are there is more like sniping. Something just hit you and you have no idea where it came from. You look down and an arrow is in your gut. You look around frantically but you don't have any idea where it came from. A few seconds later, another one is sticking out of you. You had better move since you have no clue where your attacker is. That is what it is like when your location is not known at all.”

I thought It was a great post and it is exactly how I feel about it.

And you are always welcome to ask questions it’s our game not mine :)

Edelsmirge,

As I was going through this I realized there are some questions I have about your character sheet.

You have this posted on your character sheet:

"Adopted: Dwarven hammer +1 to hit with weapon group"

But under OFFENSE:

Offense
--------------------
Speed 30
Melee: +6 Lucern Hammer
Melee: +5 spiked gauntlet
Melee: +5 short sword
Ranged: +5 Javelin

I used the Lucern Hammer (with Reach) but the comment you made confused me as the Lucern Hammer is a polearm and this appeared to imply that you had a Warhammer:

"Antas eyes gaze along the dark streets and he says in a sharp whisper to his friends we are coming into an ambush and his hammer leaps from leather into his hand from years of practice as he stops his friends where hey are and looks for a place that is defendable saying aloud yer nae likely ta take an Aerdi tha way ya want lads, come on out an let's talk it over!"

My guess is you might be using a Dwarven Longhammer (which has REACH and might not fit into the "pulled from leather" or the Dwarven Ram Hammer. or maybe it is just a Warhammer but I am not sure. Can you fix your sheet and if possible can you add your HIT/DAMAGE dice/modifiers for those items.

The Exchange

I wasn't trying to confuse and I took and wrote the Lucerne hammer as I wished to have reach. If you feel it better to do elsewise character wise I am happy to do so

And yes, all my questions came up because I was under the impression the attacker was not concealed at the beginning of the round - had I understood correctly, and there would have been no questions at all :D

I wasn't trying to confuse and I took and wrote the Lucerne hammer as I wished to have reach. If you feel it better to do elsewise character wise I am happy to do so

No problem at all. So just remember it is a polearm so carrying it around in "civilized areas" would be unusual. In my mind...(which is probably warped to begin with)...the typical person in these towns carry a belt knife or dagger if anything at all. Town guards have light armor, and weapons (swords/clubs and maybe a crossbow). Some carrying a light weapon or sword but not much else without attracting attention. Just food for thought.

All,

I don't want us to lose momentum so lets start moving our story along. Need the group at Naia's to start posting. I will get Antas, Ferona, and Peran caught up to the morning. I can get you all going forward including D'ogryn/Soros.

Haven't picked a weapon for damage amount, but the sphinx hammer has reach and a 1d10

The Lucern hammer is fine. It has reach and does 1d12 and I have used it several times for damage rolls already in this encounter. The big help would be if you could clean up your character sheet so that on OFFENSE it has all the attack and damage modifiers on it.

The sphinx hammer doesn't have reach but you can throw it so it is more like a war hammer but a dwarven weapon. After the encounter, if you wish to change this up you can.
