Game Master RPGGGM

With the heart of the Stolen Lands explored and the bandits who ruled there scattered, the long-contested realm finally lies open for pioneers and settlers to stake their claims.:
Amid the rush of opportunistic travelers, the PCs find themselves stewards over a new domain, tasked with the responsibility of guiding and guarding a fledgling nation struggling to grow upon a treacherous borderland. Yet the threats to this new nation quickly prove themselves greater than mere bandits and wild beasts, as the monstrous natives of the hills and forests rampage forth to slaughter all who have trespassed upon their territory. Can the PCs hold the land they’ve fought so hard to explore and tame? Or will their legend be just one more lost to the fangs of the Stolen Lands?

"My chartered mission is going well; we are just here to take care of some business and resupply. Which, I might add, I'm sure you can help with. But for now, have you any idea what is making the town smell so awful nowadays?"

I don't see the need to roleplay out the sale of the items we are carrying so if it's OK I'll just drop that stuff off with Mr. Thorpe and take the 50% unless anyone wants to do it differently.

"What isn't? The Garbage Haulers' Guild cut back pick up, the Sewer-Workers have left things drift and now even the Ratters are-" He stops his smile finally broken by the sight of a number of rats weaving their way along the littered street. He hefts the cauliflower as if he means to toss it and then realizes that it would do little good other than to help feed the very vermin he was hoping to brain. "Anyway, business was booming there for a moment wasn't Numalar, my old friend? Now though--well, we'll just have to see."

He forces a smile back on his face. "You folks need some lanterns?"

You can sell stuff at regular resale rates here. And buy most standard 'adventuring gear' (Core Rule book) equipment here, though nothing magical aside from everburning torches. Other mundane or masterwork items not found in the core book as well as 'armor' or 'weapons' that are found there can also be purchased here at regular price though he takes 1-2 days to supply such. He doesn't sell exotic weapons (those not in the CRB), nor food, services, alchemical items or anything particularly magical at this point, aside from light-bearing items he is not out of stock on (see above, and add perfume to the list). He does sell things generally considered illegal though--noting Numalar 'discretion' regarding such things.

"If you have nothing else to suppress or replace the rancid smell of this town, then thanks, but I have no inmediate needs. Unless you have scented soaps or candles left." Leaving Numalar to do the talking with his friend, Alia will take an opportunity to check back on the street, and try and see if they are being followed.

Nothing of a pleasant olfactory use is left. He does have some coarse, unscented soap. Many people in Coppers don't understand its utility or otherwise don't have the time to actually make use it having to use all their time to survive.

Alia:
Back down along the way you came, among the numerous signs along the street you come upon one that strikes you as vaguely familiar--"Mobi's Flophouse." A two-err, maybe four-story rundown tenement abutting what might have once been a white stone, corner church dedicated to the dead god, Aroden, which now seems to house a number of shabby, hungover fishermen. The ones who are outside eye you suspiciously.

Between the fishermen and the flop house is what at first you took to be a shared wall between the two, and then a walled in alleyway. It is in fact a whole building sandwiched between the two, not more than 7 feet wide! Its shoddy plywood door is plastered over like the walls around it in paper postings going back years, advertising nearly everything imaginable. There is no lock upon it that you can see.

All the economical shops in the Coppers, where the smell is the worst, are, you would guess, similarly sold out.

Zokon and Alia squeeze into the narrow building.

Dice Rollin':
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16

The narrow house (Alia and Zokon):
The place looks to be home for one. Granted its a home no larger than some prison cells, and narrower than many, but it has a secondhand wardrobe filled with human-sized clothing, and the wood in the crumbling fireplace is ready to light. The cupboard contains moldering, mouse-nibbled food and the small table it would have been eaten upon lays broken on its side upon the scuffed and dirty floor.

In fact, the floor smells terrible and there are clumps of green-brown muck that reek of the sewer along the length of the flat. In that evil grime you can discern two sets of tracks--one a pair of heavy tread boots and the second, a set of elongated, bipedal, clawed footprints.

The tracks part was more meant to have Zokon discern if a battle took place, and if so, who was the likely assailant, and lastly, if both tracks left, or one left and the other "disappeared"...that sort of thing

With all the vermin tracks crisscrossing the floor it's hard to make anything out and once you get outside the tracks get buried by the neighborhoods traffic. However given the placement of the tracks, and the broken table it seems obvious to Zokon that there was a scuffle between the booted man (Alfie?) and whatever it was that left the elongated claw prints.

"Ugh... should have got one of those clothespins while there was still the chance! Why did I agree to this?"

Numalar tries to hold his nose as he descends into the sewer.

Fortitude DC8: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Of course, now my hot streak with die rolling ends now that we are potentially facing combat. ;)

Numalar's normally yellowish skin takes on a green cast, and he staggers off the ladder, trying not to gag.

"Is it safe to use open flame down here? Anyone know?" Numalar says queasily.
I'm guessing that would be a knowledge (dungeoneering) check? I don't have that one. Unless it is DC 10 in which case I could roll untrained.

Wanting to get this ordeal over with as quickly as possible, Numalar makes his way gingerly across the room to stand next to Zokon, via the south side of the room, not wanting to get splashed by the effluent coming from the pipes to the north. Numalar looks around warily as he does so...

"Me and my bro had to live on the dirtier sides of towns," Scarlet crows. "You get used to it, honest. Don't know if I should be proud of that or not."

Scarlet marches across the murky "water" to reach the stairs on the other side.

Scarlet will gladly lead. "Hurry up, slowpokes!" She calls after Alia, Posh and Celyne.

"Scarlet...I..." Alia begins to formulate a response, then suddenly breaks off, followed by a forced swallowing.
Instead, she runs and leaps across the foul...liquid, knowing full well that no amount of Prestidigitation would help get THAT smell out of her clothes...

I'm guessing you weren't able to move your icon so I'll move it for you. How's that?

Numalar tries to shake the slime off his pants, with little effect. He moves forwards, trying to keep close to the wall. The LAST thing I need is to slip and fall into that mess. Best keep close to the wall.

"Well, so far there's nothing living down here," Numalar whispers, "but someone has to be down here, or there wouldn't be all this trouble. Let's get this over with; the sooner we are done the better."

Posh gives a reviled look when entering the sewers, but somehow manages to avoid looking too pale.

Fort: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20

This is a far, far place from those days in such noble accomendation. Heck, the dungeons are looking better now...

Posh looks up to Alia as she jumps across and he looks to Scarlet who almost seems at home here.

He decides to follow Alia's leave and attempts to leap over it...

If he failed, it'll be funny. If he gets by, it'll still be entertaining.

Acrobatics: 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (5) - 4 = 1

oops...

Posh lands straight into the sludge head first.

"Blub...blub..blub." he lifts his head out of the water grasping for air and feeling incredibly ill. "Oh gods! This is worse than when I had to share a room with foul, smelly, barbarian mercenaries...I'll never get that smell out..." he states as he makes his way to the group, looking much like a wet dog and just as sad.

Open flame would not be advised given the obvious amount of combustible methane present in the sewer at the current time. However Zokon's alchemical sunrod casts light better than a torch.

Rounding the first corner Numalar and Scarlet come face to face with a thousand tiny feral eyes looking up at them from the tunnel ahead. Rats! Unlike most rats this population seems to have lost their fear of humanoids and instead of scattering at your appearance, it pounces forward in a mass of rank flesh, fur and fang more massive in total than your entire party equipment and all.

The swarm envelopes Scarlet and Numalar clawing and biting! swarm damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Fortitude saves please, Numalar and Scarlet - though there is no immediate effect on a failed save.

Roll once for various levels of rat knowledge.

Knowledge (dungeoneering or nature) DC 7:
Rats in such numbers, become voracious hunters, capable of killing a full-grown human with hundreds of bites. Rat swarms are often found in the sewers of large human settlements. Due to their size the swarm as a whole only takes half damage from piercing and slashing attacks.

Knowledge (dungeoneering or nature) DC 12:
Rats are excellent climbers and swimmers (i.e. they have move speeds in both modes of movement).

Knowledge (dungeoneering or nature) DC 17:
Sewer rats often carry diseases such as Filth Fever, the symptoms of which appear within 1–3 days include general fatigue and muscle and joint aches. Filth fever can be fatal if left untreated.

Scarlet sees the rats scurry about her.

"Rats, huh?" Scarlet spits one out of her mouth. "Squishing them is best. Try not to catch their disease!"

Scarlet steps away from the swarm, drops her longsword and draws her warhammer and a light hammer. Two Weapon Fighting lets me draw both.
