Foundling. That's what the elves of Everholme called her.Her adoptive parents treasured their little babe.Childless themselves, they treated her like their own from the day she showed up at their doorstep, wrapped in blankets. They name her Celyne, for her hair shone pale like the moon. Always something of a quiet child, Celyne fit in well with the elven children around her.Though she grew and matured faster, she made friends easily, slipping from one age group to the next seamlessly.Because she grew so much faster, most of her friendships among the elven children were fleeting though. Their parents were not always so understanding, sure that her parents Variel and Herrin Nightstorme had made a mistake by taking in the foundling half-breed child. But they were good folk in general and accepted her presence in the small tightknit community. Celyne did as so many young adults do, and fell in love with a local boy, an elf named Andriel. He was fair haired and pale skinned with eyes like liquid silver. She was drawn to him as surely as she was to the full moon. Resistant at first, mostly because his parents would never approve such a match, eventually he succumbed to her charms. Their budding relationship became the talk of the small community and everyone had an opinion, but the young lovers listened to none of the gossip. They slipped off to be alone at every opportunity, enjoying their time together. After their first pregnancy scare, they were a bit more careful together. He taught her much about the natural world, as he was much older than she and nearly ready himself to take up arms in defense of the community. He taught her to hunt as well, and survive in the forests around Everholme. When Andriel became a full-fledged ranger and tasked with the defense of Everholme, their time together was restricted. Celyne didn't like seeing Andriel so much less often and frequently went with him on his solo forays. When they were caught together in the forest when Andriel was supposed to be on patrol, there were no valid excuses. The couple were ordered to stay apart when Andriel was on duty. To make matters worse, Andriel's parents warned him to end his relationship with Celyne. They had never liked that she was a foundling and of unknown birthright. They took this as a good excuse to lobby for an end to the pairing. In anguish, Celyne bid a tearful goodbye to her parents, her beloved pet dog, and to Andriel as well.Perhaps, she thought, she'd search for her birth parents... or perhaps find a city or town where no one knew her background and she wouldn't be so rejected by the adults of the community. While traveling, she spent many nights staring up at the moon, as this was her final vow with Andriel, that at night she would stare up at whatever moon there might be and know that he was looking at that very same moon. While doing so one night, she heard a voice in her head, as if a woman were speaking to her, telling her the moon was her destiny and to embrace it. She shook her head, not sure if she were truly hearing a calling or perhaps hallucinating. The same voice called to her three nights in a row, and finally she really listened and a flood of feelings coursed through her body.In time, she realized that she was being changed by this voice and the light of the moon. Lunar light flooded through her and felt a deeper than ever connection to the world around her. During one of these episodes when she was in a lunar trance, she was attacked by a giant enraged boar.Barely coming out of the trance in time to realize what was happening, she reached for her crossbow, but before she could bring it to bear, a huge ball of fur, growling and snarling, leaped between herself and the boar, fighting it off and saving her life. The boar, wounded, ran off into the woods. The tiger turned it's baleful stare on Celyne and she thought she was a goner for sure. But the cat came to her and obediently sat at her feet, licking its wounds. Unaware she could even do such a thing until that very moment, she lay her hands on the beast's side and intoned a few words, and its wounds closed by magic. And in that event, a bond was formed between girl and cat. They have traveled together ever since that night, going from town to town, enjoying their time in the wilderness, and among people as well.
