Umm... Dorjan are you thinking of the same group I am?

Male Romanian Night One (Elf) Wired Adept

LOL, depends on how many of those old Shadowrun Paperbacks I'm channeling via my subconscious, but it's entirely possible. :)

At least I didn't suggest the previous mission was feeding the overly hungry troll at the nearest Stuffer Shack as it's being robbed. :) I did run people through that one, always loved using the Remington Roomsweepers when they ducked behind the shelves, coating them with mustard, ketchup and mayonaise, or dumping 12 gallons soypork & beans on them. :) One troll cried when a stray blast took out the beer cooler and sent 30 gallons of beer sluicing over the floor. :)

Nice. What is gonna be the new combination of character types anyway?

Male Romanian Night One (Elf) Wired Adept

I was just going to beef up Dorjan. He's already a well rounded guy. Boost his stats and skills. Already maxed out his money spent.

Just remember we could spend extra BP on gear : )

Maybe we should do a show-of-hand on the characters we have - and an uppdated run of capabilities.

I will be rolling with Redline, a new character.

She is good with heavy weapons and make a decent demo-gal, getaway driver and infiltrator. Her main areas of weakness is lousy charisma (and related skills) and relatively low body. She has a stellar defence pool and will try to avoid getting shot in the first place. She is packing some pistols, an lmg, some laws, some recon drones and a decent car.

Male

I crafted a tribal survivalist who primarily specializes in athletics, survival (duh), tracking, and bow hunting. I'm working on a hacker/rigger/image as well. Mostly I didn't know what to do.

-Posted with Wayfinder

Hmm I've found myself in quite a bind.

Either Redline is human - then she starts out pretty much maxed out in the agility department already without much possibility of advancement down that road with karma. On the other hand, she has plenty of skills that can be improved upon. If she is an elf instead, she will have plenty of way to go down the agility track - but she will start out with much less edge ... And one step shorter stun-track. The elf version will also feature a higher charisma (that wont matter unless I pick up some social skills).

TL:DR is it worth to give up two points of edge and willpower for two points of charisma (same net composure, worse memory, better judge intentions) and the possibility to progress higher in the agility attribute ?

Split the difference. Buy the extraordinary attribute on the human, so her max Agility is 1 point higher.

Male

You can buy that later, right? And skills are cheaper to improve than stats. So I'd go human.

-Posted with Wayfinder

Ahem - already crammed in Exceptional (but for Reaction) and my positive qualities are already overflowing. And got her hooked on a genetic optimization (agility) already, so short of SURGE there are no ways to 'cheat' for a better agility left :) However - my laptop kindly took upon itself to choose for me, it crashed and now I can't seem to find my human backup. O well ...

But thanks for the excellent suggestions !

Speaking of which - shall we pool together some resources and by a 'tour buss' so to speak, or can we rely on Dorjans pimped ride for a while longer? I have a glorious vision of a large trailer with ram-plates, armour plates and rocket boosters ... Knock knock!

For outdoors use only of course : )

Male

Paint it black, for stealth.

-Posted with Wayfinder

No, Paint it red for speed!

Also is it sad that I was just mucking about with some of the Vehicle Mods and accidentally built a Tachikoma?

Given the fact that a section of my house has lost power and that section was where my modem was hooked up I had no internet so it will probably be a bit later tonight or tomorrow before the new Gameplay thread goes up...

I'll try to update my sheet tonight. I've been on the road for 3 days, and got hit like a ton of bricks this morning with exhaustion. Literally had to sleep all day, just waking up.

HP 10/10 Stun 10/10|Initiative 15 (3)|Ballistic Impact|Defence 14 Gymnastic Dodge 24|Composure 6 Judge 6 Lift/Carry 7 Memory 8|Perception 4 +3 Sight

I'll too will update my sheet soon. The crunch is done, but the fluff could use some polish.

Sadly I don't have a good excuse, spent the last two nights trying out the Heartstone beta and going to pubs. Atleast I got around making an avatar/alias :)

Nice.

Also I just realized just how BA it would be to rock an AI in a Tachikoma-Drone.

Especially the one I built that has 2 Weapon Mounts attached on the arms and a Heavy Weapon Mount towards the front.

AIs have great potential. Until someone brings an EMP grenade or a HERF gun or something :)

Hardening is brilliant for that. I think my groups Technomancer is thinking of running an A.I. Rigger/Hacker that resides in my Weapon Specialist's Hardened Commlink in the new campaign that is starting up.

Ok, had to rebuild from scratch, since I accidently overwrote my 'pre create' build of him. :( Now, how much Karma do we get to start with? I know the BP went from 400 to 500 (fixed that, boosted up my equipment due to higher Availability of 15). I think I'm ready to 'create' and spend Karma, but need the starting Karma, I think it changed but can't find it.

Male

I'm way behind. I have to read up on drones to get my rigger up to speed. Else my only viable character is the survivalist tribal archer.

The chummer application could help, if you don't use it already. Just do a google search for Chummer Shadowrun 4th edition and you'll find it. It'll speed things up.

Basically, you want all your driving skills boosted, a vehicle control rig, a vehicle control deck, and drones and drone rigged vehicles. A good start would be a van or SUV. Drone racks, and set the vehicle up to be rigged remotely so you can sit in the back, in an armored section, and control everything remotely.

You want firewalls as high as you can get, same for stats.

Male

"Same for stats"? What stats?
I'm making him a mage as well, so not as much to go around.

Male

And yeah, I'm using chummer. It's pretty nice!

I meant 'same for other deck stats'. Sorry. :)

Uhm... mdt... Wrong edition on the Karma and Deck...

Yes, it's a commlink, but it's still a Vehicle Control Deck for all intents and purposes. You still want to max out it's firewall/etc. You don't want to use your rigging commlink for everyday use do you? Having it stolen or damaged? You want that big nasty commlink with all the Firewall and applications locked up behind Armor in a vehicle with weapons.

I thought when we did this originally you gave us X Karma for our 4th edition people to to start with.

I don't think I did... Did I?

Maybe I'm getting that bit mixed up then.

You did give max starting nuyen yes?

That is correct. But it can't be spent until the Game is actually started.

And I now see what you are referring to on the Commlinks.

Really wish they would have followed through with the Hardware book that would have allowed 4E Characters to build a Deck, Hackpack, & such. It was hinted at and teased with a preview but then they announced 5E and apparently took the alternate Matrix set-up and put it into 5E instead.

I mean the thing I seen would be a Deck/Hackpack would allow you to attack another node and access it from your own safe node.

Kinda like besieging a castle from your own castle.

Yep.

Dorjan 500

Done rapidly, so I might have missed something, let me know if I did.

As far as commlinks, yeah, I paid through the nose for max stats on my headware commlink (paid for custom OS).

Once I was done with that, I bought like 8 cheap disposable commlinks. So what I do on a run is, I put 3 of these cheap ones out, and have my headware commlink cycle through them, sending 1/3rd of my message to each, which then call out and transmit part of my messages on. Someone hacks the little cheapies, I don't care, I just stop using it and fall back to the other 2. To get to me, they have to hack through all 3. At a 100 nuyen a pop, I can replace them really easily.

I guess I really need to check up on the hacking rules...

Languages?

It's basically putting more nodes between me and them. THose little phones are so cheap they can barely run their own software (System 1), so hacking it should degrade it's performance. As soon as my performance on the phone drops, I just dump it from the network.

Yeah 4E PANs are different from 5E PANs...

Also is War! the book that covers Tacnets?

Male

Yep, so, the commlink in my head set's up a PAN, and then only squirts data to the PAN on PHone 1 and 2. Then 1 and 2 only accept/transmit data to phones 3 & 4. 3 & 4 send to other people on the run. If someone starts tracking our communications, they hit 3 & 4 PANs, hack them, find out they are not the comm node they were looking for. Eventually they'll work their way through all of them, they're easy to hack. But you have to hack through a daisy chain to reach me. And I'll be figuring out you're up to it since you're taking over my remote PANs and I'm dropping them.

As to War! I'll have to find my copy to ensure.

It is either War! or Unwired and I am trying to concentrate on the SR4A's Hacking Stuff to open Unwired right now.

And i am going to kill her... She is in a Perverted mindset. And to busy derping around on Mount & Blade: Warband to be of any help...

On a side note: I think I finally found a Pathfinder Campaign Idea that wouldn't totally drive me insane while I attempt to run it.

You are the only guy I know who complains about his older girlfriend being in a perverted mood.

When it is this bad I think most guys would complain...

She is still laughing because of the thought of Squirting Data to a Commlink and the concept of her Playing a A.I that resides in my Weapon Specialists Commlink.

(The Technomancer is switching to a Mage and she is joining as the A.I. Hacker. God have mercy...)

LOL

So, basically the concept is this. He surveys where he'll be sniping from. He sets up some cheap phones each one with a pair of directional antenna and receivers. Then he sets up a directional antenna/receiver through his datajack. Transmits to A, A to B, B to C. If B and C get compromised, he drops A and moves the antenna to D, D to E, E to F. If E get's compromised, he drops out of the network, cleans up, and parachutes out if it's night, or just leaves if it's daytime.

Nice.

Are you talking about the Disposable Commlinks that only are usable for a Week or the Metalink ones from the CRB?

Metalink ones for now. THey're only 100 nuyen, so cheap enough to be disposable. But enough firewall to require actual checks to bypass them. And such small processing power that anything else running on them degrades performance noticeably. Basically, cheap winphones. :)

You know I just realized that Commlinks are kinda like a Nexus 5 from Google. Only with higher tech.

And what about the OS? I think the cheapest is 200¥

BTW: Where are the rules for Custom Commlink OSes?

Grumble. Stupid book. I see what you're saying. Quick question, do you have to buy the OS multiple times? Or is it ok saying it's been hacked to run on multiple devices? These are throw aways.

System & Firewall : Page 232 (Upgrade OS turning it into a custom OS)
Response & SIgnal : Page 221 (Upgrade Hardware, again custom)

I payed full price for all (IE: Starting at 0 and buying upgrade from 0 to 6 or 5, based on availability). So, 100% custom OS/Hardware. I didn't realize I had to buy basic suites of software too. I'll have to go tweak my character. I bought a bunch of junk to spend the last 2 or 3 K nuyen, so no big deal.

Have I mentioned it's been a LONG time since I played 4th ed? And even longer since I ran 3rd? I'm used to commlinks from 3rd edition, which came prepackaged with everything.

Yeah they switched back to that for 5E. Disposable Commlinks are 300¥ and come with everything in exchange for only working for 1 week. And I think they come out to being a bit better than the Metalinks.

I like the Metalinks though because they have 1 system and 1 response. So, all they can run is one application. After that, they drop to 0 response. :) That means its REALLY easy to tell when they have been hacked, since the hacker has to run his hacking apps on the machine. And with a system of 1, he has to run them in degraded form anyway. :)

It's kind of like trying to hack an atari 2600. You can do it pretty easy, you can't do it and have any use out of it. :)

EDIT : How much to have a hacker write me a custom OS I can just make as many copies as I want of? Just looking for a 1/1 OS, cheap and disposable, doesn't run any standard applications, only one custom application to send/receive?

Hp 9/9; AC 21 / 11 / 20; (Init +1; Perc +3 Fort +2, Ref +1, Will +5)

i am done

Just use the cheapest OS and use a Spoof(?) Program or a Retrans Program I can't remember which one it is that allows you to perform it...

Or just have a custom Retrans Program at 1000¥ or until a better one gets found. I think a Tacnet can allow what you are wanting... Or I might be thinking of a Nexi.

Ok,
Bought a store package for the Vim (200 nuyen OS), then bought a level 6 Spoof for my headware commlink. So it should be able to spoof the OS into loading on multiple Metalinks. There's no retrans (that was 3rd edition) program, so we'll just assume it's a standard feature?

Actually it seems like it is a basic feature for a basic commlink no program required... The re-transmitting thing that is. How bout paying double price for a Cracked version of the OS?
