Well, I do plan on having more people with initiator levels than usual in this game, so like Knowledge (nobility) it may get more mileage than average. That said, I'm down with it recognizing active combat Feats as well--they won't add to the DC, and if multiple things are happening at once, I'll probably do an average system to keep it one roll, unless there's a big gap in maneuver levels. I'll try and describe what an enemy is doing physically in such a way that you get a sense regardless, and making the knowledge check will just let you know more precisely what's happening. Something like this...

The oni lets out a vile laugh as the talk inevitably breaks down to combat. Reacting with supernatural speed, it lifts its mighty hammer and steps forward, planting its feet wide apart. Its muscles bulge, and it suddenly lunges, the weapon snapping forward in the blink of an eye as it howls, "Die, petty mortals!"

Knowledge (Martial) DC 17:
The oni is a master of demonic combat styles, using forms that emphasize savage attacks, wild but deadly, and incredibly quick! It's adopted the Savage Stance and is using Savage Drive from Black Seraph, along with Power Attack. If it hits, this is going to hurt.

Look decent? In that example you'd also be free to know that this style usually doesn't work with hammers, so it's even more skilled.

As far as Prestige Classes, I'm okay with one, but not two being taken simultaneously. I've made this game for you guys to be powerful, but there's a limit to my madness, and dual prestige classes tend to get out of hand quickly.

Just realized no one posted about your idea. I like it, sounds good to me.

PS: I'm running a Shadowrun 4E recruitment right now if anyone's interested.

Hey guys, I will post tomorrow morning as I'm close to passing out from exhaustion. Sorry for the delay -long long delay- but now that Cristmash are gone I hope we get back on track.

I mean, I want to battle an oni. It sounds f!*$ing great.

I mean, we've been waiting on Loup to get back from vacation more than we were waiting on you to post, so I wouldn't be too torn up about it. Still, I agree; I want to kick something with a vengeance.

Yeah, I've been tanked with stuff around my house from getting back from vacation--not to mention going over the wonderful submissions for the Star Wars campaign. I'd been hoping to get a post up in my games today, but I think it'll have to wait for tomorrow. That said, I might get the burst of energy and enough free time to do it tonight, so keep an eye out!

Bump?

My apologies--I think this game is cursed. Once again, I've typed up the update for this several times, and each time my computer crashes or the site goes down or something. I'll be trying again in a little while.

Hey all, I kind of feel bad about writing this, but I'm in the middle of sorting some stuff out and reorganizing both on these boards and in my life overall, and I figure it's a good opportunity to bring it up. Obviously this game has been pretty slow-moving and suffered from delays and such, and that's on me. For my part, at least, that's led to some troubles with the feel of the campaign, and I'm also realizing I may need to reorganize and rebuild some of my sketches and plans for the game. Turns out that when I hand you guys powerful build options you make powerful characters, and I've still been trying to gauge what provides a good challenge. Combat was never going to be everything in this game, but it's an important factor, and I think I need to adjust some things.

That said, I've also started to get an itch to revisit our original Deadlands game. Again, I know that this game hasn't really gone much of anywhere, and I'm not sure how you guys are feeling, but I figured I'd put it forward--we came into this knowing we would probably return to Deadlands at some point. I wouldn't call this immediately; we'd finish up this encounter and finish getting to the meeting at the castle. Of course, if you guys prefer, we can also stick with this, and there just might be a transitory period where we deal with the meeting (huzzah for Ultimate Intrigue) and I reorganize for future adventures.

In any case, I'd love to hear back from you guys. If we did go back to Deadlands, I figure we'd pick up more or less where we left off, although if people wanted to back a bit and/or adjust or rebuild characters, that's fine by me. A lot of my reason for switching games was the headspace I was in at the time and the stagnation that had occurred, but I'm in a very different place now and I'd be more than happy to get back to that. Let me know!

Hm. I'm kinda torn.

I really want to see where this one is going, but the Deadlands setting is really cool too.

I don't mind going into some social stuff in this game for a while. Yasei is the human lie detector if nothing else.

As for balancing encounters for this one, I'd suggest giving everybody class levels, and make bosses Gestalt as well. I also might hold off on very long term plans because our power is going to fluctuate a bit. Path of War characters are brutal at low levels but fall off a bit going into mid levels and then ramp up again past 13th or so.

I'm alright with either. I honestly feel like I'm more attached to Claire than I am to Haruto, but that might be because we got further into that campaign and I had Claire sitting around for a while, so I was invested in the character before we even got into playing very much. I'm down to play whichever people prefer, but I think I'd enjoy getting back into Deadlands.

Hey guys, I have a question. I'm looking at doing a Savage Worlds game here and I was wondering if you guys would be interested in playing. In addition to whatever game we're doing with Loup as the GM of course.

I'm torn between two ideas. One's a campy pirate adventure that's loosely inspired by Pirates of the Caribbean and a little One Piece, probably using some of the ideas from the SW Fifty Fathoms setting. So you can be a wizard (or maybe a voodooist, not sure exactly how I'm doing magic) or a fish person or whatever. The other is a zombie apocalypse kind of thing, but not taking itself seriously at all. Sort of Shawn of the Dead meets High School of the Dead. Pretty anime inspired with a lot of comedic ideas and over the top splatter type stuff.

Both sound fun, honestly. 'Specially if I can be a Devil Fruit using voodoo man in the pirate one.

If I join another Savage Worlds game I'd like something with magic though, now I think it. I've done two sci-fi games (Fallout and X-Com) but the only one with magic was Deadlands.

Human (Tian-Min) Monk (Scaled Fist)/Sorcerer 3 | HP: 25/33 | AC: 17, T: 16, FF: 15 | CMD: 19 | Fort: +5, Reflex: +6, Will: +4 (+7 vs mind-effecting) | Init: +6 | Perc: +7 | Ki: 4/4 | 1st: 6/6

I don't think I'm literally going to do One Piece, just caring over the tone. So a lot of light-hearted adventure and island hoping with a different mini adventure on each, leading to one big treasure at the end. I mean, I could run an outright One Piece RP, but I'd rather do either my own world or a magic version of real world Golden Age of Piracy.

The zombie one is also doing magic with what I have written up. I'm actually setting it in Japan, so you can learn magic martial arts, evil cleansing shrine magic, or old school occultism.

I gotta say, thanks Hiro and Sundakan. These last three posts finally appeared on my campaign tabs and now I know you guys have been talking for a couple days.

I will try to answer every topic in order, but bear with me: it will get long.

MinkaiSengoku balance stuff:

I do like this setting, the campaign idea and the characters but Loup's right: we are powerful. I would be okay with any solution, be it buff enemies as Sundakan sugested or even if it means rebuilding our characters (no gestalt, limiting PoW, whatever Loup considers)
That said other 'solution' could be taking the anime route. We are the stars and our power level reflects it. Masses of thugs, guns and minions serve to show that and to force us to spread our resources on dealing with them... but the true challenges come from the big bads: m'mythic' beasts, huge monsters, powerful witches and master swordsmen.

I know that feels a tad bit like videogames... but it's only a possible angle.

Regarding the Intrigue, I don't think I willbe the only to enjoy it. Even if only Hiro is a social butterfly at first glance, RP would be great.

All in all I will be okay with Loup's decision, I like the game that much.

Deadlands:

I can't say I wouldn't love returning that game to life. I enjoyed myself a great deal and punching cowboys has been a blast so far. The characters were great too and the party interaction and diverse backgrounds made it even more entertaining.

If Loup decides to kickstart the game once again, Eddy's going to be there.

Kamen's SW idea:

Yes. Yeees. Yaaaaaas.

You know how hard is convincing my 3.5 loving friends to try a new system? I think I have jumped at any chance to play SW in the boards, specially if it is with any of you boys. And so far I've had a great deal of fun.

Both of your ideas appeal to me, but I am certainly more of a zombie guy. Pirates and magic sounds cool, but zombie survival in Japan with magical martial arts, occultism and exorcism magic? Sign me in.

Gotta say I already have ideas for any of those games. A spanish corsair blessed by the church for the Pirate Game and either an american marine deployed as part of the USFJ on Japan (or the japoamerican son of said marine, undecided).

Whichever game you shoose in the end, godspeed Kamen. You are doing Pelor's work!

On this game versus Deadlands... I dunno, honestly. I dig the concept I have for this game more so than I do Deadlands, but I also ended up deleting Sam's profile by accident so I'd have to rebuild him anyway. I think I'd probably keep the same concept and mess with some things to make him a bit of a different style of character. I still dig the idea of him sort of idolizing the Earps and growing into his own as a gunman and all that, but playing a Huckster makes that a little difficult as I can't take many spells to make him more competent with a gun (like Smite, for instance). I kind of like Hexslingers as an idea but with Claire already playing one and myself basically having one in your 5E Western game I'd rather try something else. Any ideas there?

I do love the concept for this game, but I think most of us would take a backseat if we actually use Ultimate Intrigue rules as I don't think I'm the only one with 8 Charisma. I really like the mechanical build for this game, too, more so than I liked Samuel's.

-----

You know my opinion already, but I'm more interested in pirates although I like them both.

Do the Ultimate Intrigue rules penalize low Cha in other ways besides reduced Diplomacy? I didn't buy it.

Hey guys. Would it be cool to open up a discussion thread for my ideas? We can talk about stuff there and I can get a better idea of what people might want to play and how the games would run.

Sounds good to me.

Here it is guys. Feel free to chat.

I'll be posting there shortly, but as far as this game, seems like everyone has some mixed feelings. I'm seeing a slight lean toward Deadlands overall, but that might also be partially my own feelings projecting onto your posts. Either way I'd say let's take this as far as the castle, finishing off this encounter and then moving there.

I'm fine with people altering characters or creating new ones for Deadlands if we go back--I like the group we had just fine, but much like campaigns themselves, it's important to play a character you enjoy. Having two hexslingers in the party is probably overkill, but changing Sam to just a burgeoning gunslinger or some such might provide a change? Whatever works.

Things are very slow here at the moment, and I'm not going to update today because I've got other stuff on the plate, BUT! Shortly I'll wrap up the combat and bring us on to the castle, and at that point we'll switch back to Deadlands. It seems that a number of us are leaning that way, and I personally am leaning that way, so that's what we'll do. I definitely see returning to this game at some point in the future, though!

As far as an expected timeline for the switch, I can't make promises, but I'm moving into midterm week at school and this Friday starts my spring break. Certainly over that period I'd be able to swap us over and all, so probably by this coming Saturday or Sunday we can get moving again!

Alright all, it took a while longer than I'd thought because as always life is busier than expected, but that should be a Gameplay to just about wrap things up if we like here. If everyone's good for moving back to the Deadlands game, just chime in to let me know when you can; feel free to post once more here and I'll give a final wrap-up of getting to the castle if we like, and then we'll make the switch.

(In case that got muddled, which I think it did: I'm just waiting on everyone to post in saying they're aware of what's happening and good to move!)

Ready to go, yeah. I'll mess with Samuel a little bit and see what I come up with.

Human (Tian-Min) Monk (Scaled Fist)/Sorcerer 3 | HP: 25/33 | AC: 17, T: 16, FF: 15 | CMD: 19 | Fort: +5, Reflex: +6, Will: +4 (+7 vs mind-effecting) | Init: +6 | Perc: +7 | Ki: 4/4 | 1st: 6/6

No problem, I'm good to go I think. And if you're interested in trying something different with Samuel, there's some stuff in some of the more recent books that could be useful.
