When Anga, Haskyll, and Ulfgard arrive back at the Cathedral they will see that things had changed. The Ancient Stag Giant Etena was dead. Droja, Kaos, and Leira, well mostly Kaos and Leira, will relay what happened.

The body of Etena was then gathered by four Stone Giants and taken to be burned in a funeral pyre. Ferrin removed her outer garments, weapon, and symbol. She sent the body of Etena out only in her undergarments.
With the clay Ferrin had a more pressing need. She goes into the underforge. There she first lines the furnace with the sacred clay, then places the fire geodes inside the furnace. She then bathes the geodes in the dragon’s blood.
Ferrin returns to the forge, she will look at the party, "The Drakesbane Horn would have been useful if Jahlvoraz wasn't already dead. As is, it is a sacred relic."
She calls out, "I need fire. As hot of a fire as possible."

As the Forge relighting ritual begins, the young girl plays close attention. "The ritual requires a dragon's fire... but well, I can try to help I guess... let's try out" she adds up a couple of scorching rays to the mix.

Ferrin ignores Leira's comments, and asks Anga, Kaos, and Leira to direct your fire into the massive circular slag pit that surrounds the dais with the anvil. As the three sends forth their fire, Ferrin begins to recite the Blessing of Rosag.
After Ferrin finishes the blessings, there is a pause. Then a blast of fire from the center of the sacred forge, sends a bright shower of sparks throughout the cathedral. Black smoke begins pouring from the chimneys in the cathedral’s spires, and the slag pit around the dais turns bright yellow and begins churning with roiling molten slag.
But suddenly the slag begins to move. Then four smoldering masses of metal-encrusted goo sporting half a dozen pseudo-pods, each tipped with a burning-hot sword blade emerge from the slag pit.
"This is not possible!" Ferrin explains. "These should have died when the forge was last extinguished. They must have been dormant all this time."

If you want to cast a spell without provoking any attacks of opportunity, you must make a concentration check (DC 15 + double the level of the spell you’re casting) to succeed. You lose the spell if you fail.

Something Completely Different |

There is nothing anthropomorphic about these creatures. They are essentially burning hot oozes with sword-like protrusions that come in and out of its mass every round. The token I am using is about as close as I can find.
Round One
Four massive blobs of slag emerge from the slag pit. Wicked hot sword blades jut out from the huge blobs.
Kaos successfully puts up a Shield.
Leira does not know what these are. She works to cast an Acid Arrow against the second mass.
The second blob strikes out at the Arcane Trickster, but misses Leira.
Leira hits the blob with the Acid Arrow, but it appears to not have an affect. She then Dimension Slides away from the blob.

Lug becomes wide eyed when he sees the huge molten blobs of slag emerge from the slag pit. The other Hill Giant also looks on in amazement.
Ferrin calls out, "They are Shard Slags. Etena taught me about them. Acid will not work on them, and obviously, neither will fire." As she says this she takes a step drawing out Etena's Warhammer and begins to work on the fourth Shard Slag. She gets in one solid strike. Bits of slag and metal flies off the fourth Shard Slag.

Ulfgard joins in on the fun and delivers two crushing blows with the Hammer of Unmaking. The Dwarf Ranger puts a couple of obvious dents into the first blob of molten slag.
A creature that strikes a shard slag with a weapon can attempt a DC 22 Reflex save; if it fails, it’s unable to pull the weapon away from the shard slag’s molten body quickly enough, and the weapon takes 2d6 points of fire damage. Unattended objects in contact with a shard slag take 2d6 points of fire damage per round. Damage caused to weapons and unattended objects is not halved, and ignores the first 5 points of hardness. The save DC is Constitution-based.
Ulfgard needs to make two DC22 Reflex saves or take 2d6 of Fire Damage to Agrimmosh. Both Ferrin's and Ulfgard's weapons have a Hardness of 14 and can take 40 points of damage before getting the broken condition. Correction: Agrimmosh Has a Hardness of 16 and can take 50 points of damage. With the 5 points ignored is resist 11 points of damage per strike, so only double-sixes will actually cause 1 point of damage to Agrimmosh. Ulfgard really should not worry about it, except the damage you are taking. That you will need to worry about.

Leira curses when the acid does nothing to the shapeless creatures, and even more when she notices sneak attacks and critical hits will do nothing to them.
Primarily concerned by the bad shape of the ranger dwarf, Leira casts displacement from safety, then advances to touch Ulfgard releasing the spell on him "Take care Ulfgard, those beasts are very dangerous!"
Ulfgard gains 50% misschance for 10 rounds (until Leira's round 13)
The girl draws her bow while she walks towards the dwarf. She shouts back at Ferrin forgetting for once her hatred to giants "How can we defeat them Ferrin? Did Etena revealed how to best fight them?"

Seeing the fire oozing out of the forge with the swords, Haskyll quickly extends Torags protective aura out to cover everyone.

He then calls upon the might of Torag to freeze them, then launch them as javelins of ice. 2 to each, with last 2 going to #1

I don't think Anga needs to make a concentration check for the shield. The spell is not a full round cast and by the time the beasties act, it's cast. (Anga is on 13, slag monsters on 7 in initiative) Generally, the only time a concentration check for damage happens is if the opponent has readied an action to disrupt the spell, The cast is a full-round action, the opponent has specific feats to do AOO in that circumstance, the caster is in combat range and does not cast defensively (which Anga would have with auto success), or the caster is grappled or taking continuous damage.

@Anga - The Shard Slags were not surprised, and actually reacted first when they emerged from the slag pit by taking a move action. I should have referred to their emergence as a Surprise Round. Anga was in combat range when she cast her shield. I will retract the AoO, but please in the future just communicate that you are casting defensively. And would you like to cast your Dimension Door defensively?
@Haskyll - The Aura of Protection has only a 30 foot radius. If you read this before Ulfgard post, then please feel free to take another round one action. In Round One that would capture Droja, Haskyll , and the Hill Giants only.
What Ulfgard does could be a matter or life or death, so I will wait for his actions before recapping the round. I have a busy week, but I will still try to post at least once a day.

The party did not get a Surprise Round. The Shard Slags moved as the first actions in the encounter. Technically, their emergence from the slag pit was prior to the First Round. You can call it what you like, but the party does not get an action the same time the Shard Slags emerged.

Round One Complete
Haskyll moves up and calls for Holy Ice in the form of Javelins and hurls them at the fourth Shard Slag.
The Holy Ice Javelins have a restriction in the text that says, "which hurl themselves toward one or more targets that are no more than 10 feet away from each other." In Round One, none of the Shard Slags were within 10 feet of each other to start. So, I have directed the full attack at the one nearest to Haskyll.
Four of the Ice Javelins strike the Shard Slag. The ice quickly melts and the water becomes steam around the creature. The Shard Slag seems to be more effected by this than blows or the other spells, but appears to also have shaken off the affect.
Shard Slag 4 Fort Save: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 221d6 ⇒ 3
Round Two
Kaos defensively adds more Fire Resistance to himself and then successfully rolls away from the Shard Slag.
Leira gives Ulfgard some Displacement, then calls out to Ferrin for advice on how to deal with these creatures.
Haskyll tries an Acid Dart at the fourth Shard Slag. It seems to have no effect on the creature.
Anga defensively cast a spell, and Dimension Doors herself off the dais.
Lug is still stymied as to what to do next other than keep the other Hill Giant from doing something typically stupid.
Ferrin calls out, "Like all fire, they are vulnerable to water." She gave herself an idea and defensively cast Create Water on the fourth Shard Slag. She calls out for help.
Ferrin's Concentration Check to cast Defensively 0 level spell, needs a DC15: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
A rain begins to fall over the fourth Shard Slag. Steam erupts as the drops hits the creature. But the creature resist the impact from the rain.

Bummer! It just made its save. If it had failed, it would have been Staggered for three rounds. They must make a DC20 Fort Save versus water immersion.
Ulfgard withdraws from combat. But as the Dwarf Ranger is moving through Leira's location, a hot sword juts out toward Ulfgard hitting the Dwarf Ranger with a near critical strike.
They have a 15' Reach. At least they only got one attack in as Ulfgard withdraws.

Leira is taken on the wrong foot when she is trying to help Ulfgard and suddenly finds herself on first line. The flaming appendages of the shards burn her rendering the girl faintly staggering.
As she is with 0 hit points Leira gains the disabled condition but she would normally be yet unconscious, but correct me if there is something special working here (undead and constructs are an exception because they are destroyed when reaching 0 hp)
To avoid being punished to death Leira dimensional slides behind Ulfgard and Droja.
According to the disabled condition, move actions normally do not collapse the character, but as this is a spell-like I would request your criteria for this specific action before assuming Leira remains disabled but conscious.
She started 10' away from the Shard, thus if proximity damage applies at that distance, and there is no Ref save posible, she is likely down anyway :(

This is correct. You are disabled. You are not unconscious. It has been a while since anyone went to exactly zero, and I did not refresh my memory of the rules on this when I posted this morning. Technically, you have the Staggered condition, except if you take a Standard action you lose a hit point and go unconscious. Move actions have no negative effect.
The proximity damage is within 5 feet, so you are good. And since Dimension Slide is a move action, you can do this in your round and get away from the Shard Slag. Leira was fortunate that she did not go below zero. Dimension Slide is a cool ability as it is spell-like, yet treated like a move action, and does not provoke an AoO.

dimensional slide is indeed a really cool get away of danger ability that works great with a squishy trickster like Leira. It has saved her many times now.
Leira is not a powerful combatant, but she has many tricks under her sleeves!
Leira breaths heavily, holding the wounds that make her almost faint to the ground, but she remains stubbornly fighting "Trunau... will... never... fall..."

Round Three
Kaos make a move toward the first Shard Slag. He avoids any approaching attacks and in turns delivers a quality hack against the molten ooze.
I used the "One-handed metal-hafted weapon" for Agrimmosh. I would think Demon Slayer would fit this category as well. The RAW should be more specific. Sadly, it is not. I would say a Hardness of 16 with 50 HPs, the same as Agrimmosh. The damage caused by striking the Shard Slag ignores the first 5 points of hardness. Even then the most damage that can be done by a strike is 1 point. With 50 hti points, I would say that your weapons can not become broken in this encounter. So, do not worry about Saving Throws for Agrimmosh or Demon Slayer.
Leira falls to the floor. She feels the cool stone floor of the Cathedral, but she also feels the nearby heat. The Arcane Trickster slides through space away from the molten ooze. Lying prone, she now only feels the cold stone.
Haskyll creates water and pours it out on the fourth Shard Slag. Again, steam erupts from the creature. It appears to be staggered by the water.
Shard Slag 4 DC20 Fort Save:: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 161d6 ⇒ 3
It too has the Staggered condition for the next three round.
Seeing the fourth one being staggered, Kaos on the first one, and the Water Elemental on the fourth one, Anga encases the third one into an Icy Prison. The hot ooze stops moving.

If the Shard Slag fails its save, the Icy Spell in effects takes the creature out. It becomes Helpless for 10 minutes, taking 10 HPs of damage a round. It will eventually die.
With the fourth one Staggered, if we were ftf Anga would have likely targeted the healthiest of the Shard Slags with her Icy Prison. That is a nasty spell.
Lug, without a weapon, grabs Frud and drags him toward the double doors away from the Shard Slags.
With the fourth one Staggered, Ferrin turns her attention toward the first one on Kaos. Changing targets put the Slag Giant off balance and she missed her first attack. She didn't miss with her second and third. Ferrin crushes the Shard Slag. It becomes cold and shatters into harmless bits of slag.
