As Ulfgard looks further down the twenty-foot wide area, he sees a great hall. The support walls and pillars that once connected the Plague House to the huge boulder behind it have burnt and crumbled in this ruined chamber, revealing nearly the entire face of the monolithic stone as well as much of the sky above. Jagged red runes have been painted onto the rock in long, broad strokes that reach from top to bottom. A cabinet on the southeast wall and a tall bookcase against the northeastern wall are all that remain of the room’s furnishings.
Everyone that enters the hall roll the Perception check below. You can't "take 20".

GMPC Ragnir's Perception Roll
Ragnir's Perception Roll: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Ragnir notices the Giant hairy Spider in the cobwebs about ten feet above them.
Ragnir is the only one that can react in the surprise round. I will randomly place the party in the room looking around. The Spider is partially out of the room to represent the ten feet distance he is currently from the nearest party member, Ulfgard.
Surprise Round
Ragnir’s Initiative: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (5) + 0 = 5
Giant Hairy Spider’s Initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
A Giant Hairy Spider hiding in the remains of the building fires a web down at Ulfgard entangling the Dwarf Ranger.
Giant Hairy Spider's Web attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Ulfgard has the Entangled condition. The character is ensnared. Being entangled impedes movement, but does not entirely prevent it unless the bonds are anchored to an immobile object or tethered by an opposing force. An entangled creature moves at half speed, cannot run or charge, and takes a –2 penalty on all attack rolls and a –4 penalty to Dexterity. An entangled character who attempts to cast a spell must make a concentration check (DC 15 + spell level) or lose the spell.
Round One
Ragnir has a Standard Action in the Surprise in addition to Round One actions.
Kaos’ Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Anga’s Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Ulfgard’s Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Haskyll’s Initiative: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (6) + 0 = 6
Anga goes first in the Round, then the big Hairy Spider, Kaos, Haskyll, Ragnir and finally the entangled Ulfgard.

Haskyll Stonereaver |

Haskyll exclaims.
He then rapidly loads a bolt and then hoists his crossbow up and unleases a bolt at the spider.

Anga Runedaughter |

Drawing upon her magical talent, Anga unleashes a force missile at the arachnid threat.

Ragnir Brightaxe |

"Bloody damned insects! Ragnir grabs a torch (one that's lit preferably, but will light one if needs be) and tosses it into the thing's web. torch toss: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (19) - 2 = 17 BAB+str for thrown - proficiency penalty. In the surprise round if I can, if not then light in surprise, toss in round 1

GM Mazra |

Since we didn't delve into how much light you need, I will say Ragnir had a lit torch.
Surprise Round
Ragnir hurls his torch at the Spider, striking the eight-legged vermin and catching some of the webs on fire.
Torch strike on Spider, bludgeoning plus 1 pt fire damage, plus damage from burning web: 1d3 + 1 + 2d4 ⇒ (1) + 1 + (1, 3) = 6
Ragnir does a couple of points of damage from the direct hit, and four more from the web catching fire around the Spider.
Round One
Anga hits the Spider with an Evoker's Force Missile.
Total damage on the Spider 11 at this point.
The spider moves away from the burning portions of the web. It then attacks the Entangled Ulfgard but is clumsy in its attack after the damage it had sustained.
Spider bite on Ulfgard: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 111d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Kaos puts up a Shield.
Haskyll takes aim with his crossbow, but the bolt goes wide of the moving Spider.
That leaves Ragnir and an entangled Ulfgard to complete Round One.
Round Two
Go ahead with Round Two actions. Ragnir and Ulfgard go ahead with both Round One and Two actions.

Anga Runedaughter |

Anga quickly cranks off another force missile

attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 101d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Haskyll Stonereaver |

Haskyll summons a dart of acid, while he reloads his crossbow.
ranged touch: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

GM Mazra |

Round One Completion
After the Giant hairy Spider misses the Dwarf Ranger, Ulfgard with a meaty crunch cleaves into the spider, dislodging much of its head from its body. The spider falls limp.
@Ulfgard - A natural 20 hits no matter what. And your confirmation was high enough to overcome the -2 penalty while Entangled.
Victory But wait!
All Round Two actions did not occur as Ulfgard critically struck the spider in Round One. So Anga's Force Missile and Haskyll's Acid Dart are saved for the next batch.
A moment or two later, and as Ulfgard removes the webs from his body. Three smaller spiders drop down from behind. You took out the mama, and now you have her babies to deal with.
Kaos’ Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Anga’s Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Ulfgard’s Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
Haskyll’s Initiative: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (5) + 0 = 5
Ragnir’s Initiative: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (2) + 0 = 2
Spider’s Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
New Encounter Round One
Ulfgard goes first, followed by Kaos, the Spiders, Haskyll, Anga then finally Ragnir. I will wait until at least Ulfgard and Kaos has posted their actions, before I post the spiders actions.

Haskyll keeps an eye out on where the spiders ran.

Ragnir Brightaxe |

"I dinna care. I've half a mind ta find out what giant spider tastes like when roasted. Blasted eight legged critters." Ragnir shakes off some web that clings to his hand, "I hate webs!

GM Mazra |

Kaos finds an abandoned hopeknife on one of the shelves in the bookcase to the northeast. Its blade bears the inscription, “For Rodrik, my love.” In addition Kaos discovers a small cubby behind the false back to the bookcase. The cubby holds an ornate gold coffer studded with numerous gems. The coffer is empty. There are also two iron flask, two vials, and a beat up scroll case.

Anga Runedaughter |

hmm, do ye think those vials contains poison? This looks like the murderers hold.

Haskyll Stonereaver |

Possible, but I don't suggest that we drink it to find out, right now
Haskyll grins and then sobers up But I do think that someone was here, as this is the hopeknife that we were looking for

Haskyll Stonereaver |

Aye, next room it is.
Haskyll takes the time to make sure that he is last into the remaining room, and to keep an eye out on where the spiders went.

GM Mazra |

Ulfgard hears a faint noise of something scurrying about.
When he opens the iron door, he sees another iron door that connects this small stone extension to the Plague House’s main building. A large steel lockbox sits in front of a steep stone staircase that winds down into darkness. He also sees Dire Rats. They notice him too.

GM Mazra |

Rats!
Kaos moves up and splatters a Dire Rat all over this upper part of the stairwell.
Anga's Force Missile takes out another.
And to move things along.....
Haskyll moves up and his Acid Dart finishes off the last of the rodents.
The party is becoming quite the exterminators.
There is a large steel lock box covered in bits and pieces of Dire Rat.
Think the original Total Recall, if you recall the scene.

Haskyll Stonereaver |

Which part of Total recall again ??
So what might be in this?
Haskyll looks at the steel box.

Ulfgard Strongfist |

Where Arni opens the suitcase and is greeted by himself, leading to him putting the "THING" in his nose!
"Hah, good work all!"
Ulfgard goes closer to the box taking his time inspecting it for traps.

GM Mazra |

@Ulfgard - Thumbs up. A rat was blown away in that scene.
Ulfgard's Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Ulfgard is nearly certain that there is no trap on the lock box. The lock box is...well...locked. But Ulfgard will notice that it is more sealed than secured with an actual lock. It is a large, very heavy container.

Haskyll Stonereaver |

Any suggestions on how to open this ?
Haskyll inquires as they look at the lock box.

Haskyll Stonereaver |

No I, unless you want it hammered open
