I'm down with that, Tectonic

December 26th Update

Whoops.

Protege/Wingblade - We stuck together after all was said and done. Why? How'd we keep in contact?
Although WE know we saved the day, the rest of the city is not so sure about us. Since there's not much chance of the rest of the superhero community accepting us the way things currently stand, we're all we've got. I let everyone keep one of the communicators that I lent them, and who knows? Maybe one or more has asked to crash in my clock tower for a bit.

Beacon/Ghost Dragon - We found signs that this incident was just the start of something bigger. What were the signs?
The signs were a financial paper trail indicating a source of outside funding for the lab and for the geokinetic soldiers that clearly showed these beings were just the tip of a possible conspiracy, as well as several status reports sent to an email address by Barney and Jill Tatum. The email address is now defunct.

Nova/Eldritch - When our team got together, we destroyed our surroundings. Where was it? What was destroyed?

Doomed/North Star - When our team first came together... We paid a high cost for victory. What was it?
I like the idea of their secret base for creating soldiers being under a normal research center, especially for something dealing with one of the major diseases. It would be especially fitting if someone from said institute/lab said that they were close to a cure for the disease that they studied (for some reason I like it being a parkinson's disease lab, especially since they could probably draw their test subjects from desperate people). When we starting fighting inside the lab, it caused several key support structures to collapse down and more or less sink the facility.

Bull/Tectonic - We defeated a dangerous enemy. Who or what was it?
Tectonic's parents, Barney and Jill Tatum, and their army of geokinetic soldiers.

Delinquent/Hashtag - We totally broke some major rules to win the fight. What rules did we break? Whose rules were they?
Look... the 'authorities' say our actions were without 'probable cause'. Other words they used were stuff like 'excessive property damage', 'wanton destruction', and 'public menace'. Look, that's all a load of s*!! and you know it. We did what we had to; if we hadn't, you'd be praising your new overlords by now.

Transformed/Deputy Atoms - We drew attention and ire from plenty during the fight. One important person in particular now hates and fears us. Who is it?

===========================

Tycho, your influences kinda have be decided pre-game start. Really the game starts in media res so....

===========================

I would recommend either 1 or 2 for the option of school setting. And remember, if you'd rather have your hero not attending, that's fine as well.

Male Human The Beacon | Condition: None

Franklin High sounds perfect for Ty. It's definitely more the area he would be from.

I think it also lends itself to further his differences from the team. Going to a different school that likely doesn't have as many students with a superhero background might make him feel more like an outsider.

*whew* Okay, as always, I hammered out the background, and the character makes -much- more sense now.

Imagine had been on Earth for only a short while, and was caught up in the press for help against the Tatum Geokinetic Soldiers (TGS) almost as much by luck as anything else.

She still views humans with a mixture of curiosity and awe. These are, after all, her ancestors, but so many of their costumes are odd, even quaint. She still communicates mostly by Telepathy, and can't get used to people freaking out over it.

Oh, um, quick note: I have a Cheerful (capital 'C') disposition, and -everyone- gets influence over me. Buckle up, Buttercup. =)

>We didn’t trust each other at first, but that changed. How? Why?<

Who the enemy was came out at the same time as who created it. That we were about to face off against an army created by the parents of Tectonic spoke loudly of one thing: Trap.
Each wondered if this was an actual emergency, or just some con by Tectonic, in cahoots with Barney and Jill, to simply capture us, as a step in a larger plan. Unspoken was the subtext that if Tectonic wasn't a traitor, maybe someone else was?

As the battle started, we spent almost much time watching our backs as our fronts, and that lead to some poor target decisions, accounting for the majority of the collateral damage. Only after the heart of the battle passed, and each member had been saved by every other, did it at last dawn that our shared bonds had the hardness of STEEL.

December 26th Update

Tips for Playing the Transformed:

Troubled, titanic, grotesque, lamentable. The Transformed used to be human, without any powers or superhuman elements, until something happened and they were changed, obviously and permanently. They might be a cyborg, or a strange monster, or made of electricity—just so long as they’re strange and inhuman, with no way of hiding it. The Transformed’s story is about what you do with your new life and form, and how you react to the way other people treat you now.

As the Transformed, lots of people will attempt to shift your Labels, just by how they react to your appearance. You’re the quintessential book, and your cover is pretty striking—other people will judge you by it all the time, whether you like it or not. Your story is about how your actions either change or confirm those opinions. You can prove those people wrong—or you can prove them right. It’s your choice.

It’s theoretically possible for you to change yourself back over the course of play—after all, everything and anything is possible within Halcyon City. But keep in mind that doing so will be very difficult—you have no tools to point out such a path for yourself—and it requires you to change playbooks, or retire your character at the very least.Your character’s arc and struggles aren’t really about trying to return to what you were—they’re about trying to deal with what you are now

Tips for Playing the Outsider:

Strange, curious, naïve, arrogant. The Outsider isn’t from here, but that won’t stop them from creating a life for themself right here on this planet. At least, for now. But can they find a place here? Will they even want to, once they get to know this world more? Or will they answer that siren call, and go home?

When you make an Outsider, feel free to go nuts with your homeland. You might be an alien, absolutely, but you might also be from a parallel world, or from the future, or from a digital realm— whatever. The key is, wherever you’re from, it has to be substantially different from Earth and Halcyon City, to the point that you don’t fit in even when you try.

A crucial thing to remember while playing the Outsider is that you aren’t incompetent—you understand more than enough to get by in your new home. What you don’t understand are the more complicated elements of the world around you.

Pick a few key areas of different philosophy and psychology as you play your Outsider. You can add all the weird pieces you want—”My people never let their feet touch the ground, and we can’t see the color green, and we hear emotions!”—but focus on important and difficult questions, like your people actively dismissing the idea of incarcerating criminals instead of reforming them or believing that those with great power are required to follow the will of the people.

December 26th Update

And....I think I forgot one....

Tips for playing the Doomed:

Tragic, melodramatic, powerful, driven. The Doomed is a character best served by long-term play, even though their story is about time pressure and not knowing how long they have left . They’re the only character who starts with a clear-cut enemy—their nemesis—and a dangerous timer on their character’s lifespan. They’re also the only character that explicitly faces death by the end of their story. As a result, adding a Doomed to your campaign inherently adds a level of drama, gloom, and danger to your game—death, while not a constant element, is now on the table.

If you’re playing the Doomed, you may feel a desire to avoid using your doomsigns or to stay away from the triggers that advance your doom track. Don’t! Embrace those pieces of your character. Filling your doom track gives you doomsigns; doomsigns give you more power; and that power demands a purpose. By default, you can rely on your nemesis to provide you with a purpose, something to strive against, but you can aim for other things, too. Be ready to pay a lot of costs along the way to accomplishing your goals, whether through your sanctuary or other means.

And just so this is perfectly clear. If you activate that last doomsign that says "Your doom has come, face it and perish" you will auto-fail that confrontation. No way to fight back. You lose. So you may want to work on that from time to time.

December 26th Update

I have coalesced a lot of info on the campaign tab for easy reference. If you have a rules question, I will try to clarify.

================

So why were you all mistrustful of each other at the start? I guess it could be wariness of a trap, but maybe there's more than that? Perhaps another super that cloaked the super-soldiers with illusions to make them resemble you all so you couldn't tell who was who, and initially thought that the originals were attacking you.

Ji-Wan "Vick" Zeng Conditions: Guilty; Potential 4/5; Delinquent

Yes... Why not have people think I might possibly be the traitor?

I am a delinquent after all, and illusions is obviously my thing, but you couldn't *prove* that I did/didn't help the bad guys during our initial battle.

You and ____________________ teamed up a few times before the rest of you came together.

Your mentor is cautious; they asked you to keep an eye on __________________.

The first one is kind of tough, since I don't know who else might have gone out and fought crime prior to our big unveiling. I know Tectonic was imprisoned, so she's out. It doesn't seem like North Star was operating either. Maybe Ghost Dragon, since he definitely did some superheroing before we got together. Or possibly Imagine? She's a flier, I notice.

I think Hashtag is a definite for the second question.

====================

The lack of trust thing is throwing a wrench into my carefully crafted origin story (HA HA!!!)

Okay, how's this: Since there's a lot of us, what we could have us split into two groups who showed up separately to deal with the threat. The group that had to fall back and regroup in Wingblade's tower encounter the second group when they return and we automatically assume the others are there to defend the installation. Thus, the classic "superheroes must fight each other before teaming up to battle the real threat" trope is fully intact and preserved.

Sound good?

Shaun Adams - The Transformed

I support Wingblade's idea!

@Everyone - Deputy Atom's Question
We drew attention and ire from plenty during the fight. One important person in particular now hates and fears us. Who is it?
General O'Toole, who sees us as a bunch of dangerous misfits that need to be dealt with. But whether he's part of the conspiracy or just a concerned citizen? No one knows for sure.

@Wingblade - Deputy Atoms' Relationships
Wingblade... knew you before you changed.
Deputy Atoms was once Shaun Adams, a Sheriff Explorer who went above and beyond his duties during an attack on Halcyon City. He disarmed a major supervillain and prevented them from firing the deadly Atomizer at one of Halcyon's heroes, saving their life and perhaps countless more. However, Shaun's body was painfully atomized after the weapon fell and cracked on the ground, causing its power source to discharge into him. As he faded, his molecules dispersing, he saluted the hero and said, "Just doing my duty, miss." That hero was Whippoorwill's protégé, Wingblade.

I wanted to continue the trend of making Wingblade one of the character's relationships. Aaaand I wanted to give her something to brood about.

@Imagine - Deputy Atom's Relationships
Imagine... comforted you when you were at your lowest.
I like to think that Imagine gave him a telepathic 'mental hug' at some point.

@Hashtag

Hashtag wrote:
I need a volunteer for my third mandatory influence. My playbook says I need to (albeit secretly) let 3 members have influence over him.

Did you ever find your third? Just wondering, because Deputy Atoms is a pretty cool guy.

@DM Default
Thanks for raising these issues! And thanks for the tips too! I'll make some changes.

Influence
I'm glad you brought this up because it made me look a little closer into everyone's characters. I think what I really meant with having everyone get influence on Atoms, was that he was everyone's friend (but that isn't exactly what influence is about). I'll dial it back to 2 while expanding on why for each.

Ghost Dragon has influence over Deputy Atoms because he goes out of his way to be Atoms' friend and Atom really appreciates that because usually people avoid him. Plus, Ghost thinks he's awesome, and that's a refreshing sentiment. Although Atoms doesn't actively seek approval from Ghost, he does want it, and he would be devastated if Ghost were to ever think negatively of him. He is the minimum influence choice.

Eldritch has influence over Deputy Atoms because they're kindred spirits (i.e. both dangerous glowing freaks). They both realize the danger of their powers going out of control, but Eldritch has fought long and hard to keep himself and his emotions in check, something that Atoms is still learning. Atoms sees Eldritch as the bigger man, something of a role model, and secretly, Atoms thinks that if it ever came down to him versus the team, Eldritch is the only one who could stand a chance and actually go toe-to-toe with him (which is the Freak +3 talking, and not the Superior -1).

Looks/Abilities
Deputy Atoms' current Looks and Abilities are:
Abilities: Inhuman Might and Superhuman Senses [able to perceive wireless transmissions; such as from cellphones, computers, etc.; and see things on an subatomic level (microvision)]
Look: Man, White, Strange Eyes, Untouchable Flesh, No Costume

DM Default wrote:
Also, not entirely sure radioactive body is covered under transmuting flesh....its a bit of a stretch, but it fits so should be fine.

I think you slipped up and used the wrong word there, but I just wanted to clarify that the radioactive, pure energy body is from Looks: Untouchable Flesh and not Ability: Transmuting Flesh, which is not one of Deputy Atoms' chosen abilities. He doesn't 'leak' radiation or heat as his molecules keep these passively contained, but he does require concentration to keep himself together, and as such he's more likely to simply (and harmlessly) disperse than explode in the event of his defeat (and in a containment suit, he will appear to be unmoving and unconscious). He is safe to be around, but touching his skin will cause damage to whoever touched him.

DM Default wrote:
And regardless if you decide your hero will go to school or not, I must insist on the suit. I doubt the Adult heroes would let you off if you accidently gave a villain cancer. The powerset you have is definitely a danger, so we need to make adjustments somewhere for the story to make sense.

Speaking of school, I think I would rather that Deputy Atoms homeschools himself, due to the fact that no parent would be okay with him attending a normal highschool, and as you say, even the superheroes would be nervous about him attending a superpowered school (where the danger of an accident is even higher).

I will gladly accept the containment suit and will change his looks from 'No Costume' to a Captain Atom/Major Force-esque 'Strange Costume'. Just for clarification, unlike the two characters I just mentioned, he won't need the suit in order to keep from violently dispersing and will instead require it to safely interact with the environment and others. As such, he wears it at all times.

GM Default wrote:
Also, we need to define what your super senses are and how it fits with your theme. As a being made of energy there are some ways I can see certain abilities working, but I don't want to leave it too vague.

I thought about it for a long time and I think I'd like to switch Superhuman Senses out for Impenetrable Armor, making him the team tank.

Wingblade, it seems natural that our characters would have some hooks.

On a random patrol, you either saw, or were notified, of a flying object warranting a "What da hell is that?"

Upon investigating, you found a flying girl wearing a lime green shirt, brown corduroy pants, and a very confused face.

After the initial wacky-hijinks-filled introductions, Imagine informed you of her origin, and, inspired by your own mentor-student relationship, you took Imagine under your wing to advise her in these "strange Earth ways".

The pair have busted a few low-level thug circles that were quite surprised by the flying duo, but the fight against the super-soldiers was the biggest test to date.

Hence, updated: You’ve been learning about Earth by spending time with __Wingblade__.

How's that sound? =3

Edit: Holy epic ninja by Deputy Atoms!!1!
Yes, officer Atoms, of course. Your close relationship to Wingblade brought you and Imagine together naturally, where Imagine, still using her mental powers waaaaay too often, helped you understand your own mind and offered an insight that was both from a different point of view, and mixed with your own feelings on your plight.

Sound good? =3

Deputy Adams, where do you live with your dangerous body and unique constitution (or more likely where can you stay that people won't force you to leave?)

Also, how do you homeschool yourself. Is it purely self-study? Do you rely on any resources or people to come teach or help you?

If we go with Wingblade's idea, are we going to split the group into the more villainous-looking versus the more heroic looking? That could be interesting, especially what it says about the assuming heroic group.

Sorry everyone, I was abducted by friends and was gone all night. Been reading through everyone's responses and ideas, which are great. And yay, more people! more drama!

--------------------------------

"When our team got together, we destroyed our surroundings. Where was it? What was destroyed?

When our team got together, we were fighting outside, within, and underneath a medical research center within the heart of the corporate sector of Halcyon City. The real question to ask was what wasn't destroyed? Research projects, some minor and some major, were wrecked by our fight against the clone soldiers and Tectonic's parents. Cures and research has been pushed back by years because of our destruction but a possible threat was also eliminated.

--------------------------------

As for the schools, I am good with Option #2. Eldritch had an encounter at school that severely harmed his sister and he has since been uneasy being around others or in large groups. I'm thinking that his counselor, contacting the heroes he is in touch with, was able to get Eldritch the private training to help him focus his destructive powers. I think a world much like our own, just a bit more "convenient" and technologically upgraded. We aren't teleporting around but the existence of superpowered individuals has improved and advanced things subtley.

--------------------------------

@Hashtag I'm cool with getting that bit of influence, will be a nice bit of character development between the two. I was thinking of giving Hashtag the influence from my personality being locked-down and grim. With his pranks, he is probably one of the few people to get Eldritch to actually laugh out loud.

@Tectonic That makes perfect sense and fits with one of my relationships as well. Eldritch tends to hang out with her because sometimes they just head out somewhere and let their powers out to let off that stress of holding back all the time.

So that decides one of my relationships...

You hang out all the time with Tectonic to blow off steam.

Now, the interesting one the next relationship...

You once hurt *blank* when you lost control of your powers.

So who wants to have taken some magical, alien power to the face or perhaps, when the power threatened to overwhelm me, got in the way to protect others?

-----------------------------

Okay, I think I got/answered everything that I noticed. I'm off today so I can do questions and all kinds of stuff. Just as a reminder to @Default, I'll be doing the glyph drawing as his restriction. It is how he safely channels his power, unleashing it raw is incredibly dangerous and worthy of a Moment of Truth.

Shaun Adams - The Transformed

Without 'The Legacy', there's a nice 4v4 split for the hero and 'villain' team battle. Here's how I see it playing out, though I'm not sure who would be on what team.

Ghost Dragon v Wingblade
- Kung Fu against MMA

Imagine v North Star
- Fate against Destiny

Hashtag v Tectonic
- Brains against Brawn

Eldritch v Deputy Atoms
- Magic against Physics

@Imagine
I like it! And since we have some time before play starts, something else that would be cool would be if the Deputy's containment suit was somehow given to him by Imagine. Perhaps as a gift or maybe as an unintended consequence of her 'traversal'. Any ideas?

@Hashtag
Cool! I like to think that Deputy Atoms has influence over Hashtag because he's saying/doing all the same stuff to him that Officer Harding is, and because Atoms is essentially a younger and more relatable version of Harding.

@DM Default
Deputy Atoms doesn't stay in the same place for long, and he doesn't seem to relax when he does. He'll visit Wingblade's Clock Tower, go to Deputy Wakefield's Home, chill out at the bottom of the lake in central park, sit next to a dumpster in an alley... Anywhere really. He's used to moving place to place like this and not really having a home because he was a foster kid before he became Deputy Atoms. When it all happened, he was in the process of leaving his current foster family and going to a new one, so he doesn't have any type of family to go back to.

For homeschool, Deputy Atoms is a self-study, but he doesn't take it very seriously. Deputy Wakefield does buy him books, some of them necessary schoolbooks like math and history, and others on subjects that Atoms picks out himself (usually literature). Sometimes he goes out to the suburbs to get books from a "Take a book, leave a book" little free library outside someone's house. Of course, he doesn't lug these books around everywhere, instead storing them, with permission, at the Clock Tower or at Wakefield's house.

Getting around using the roads is difficult to say the least, as Atoms would be spotted pretty quickly. He'll put on really heavy, covering clothes (lended to him by Wakefield) if he really needs to go somewhere, but he isn't above traveling underground and through the sewers in order to get where he needs to be. Yes, Atoms has spent some amount of time exploring the sewer system. Rarely, he'll call Deputy Wakefield to drive him.

@Eldritch
I'll volunteer Deputy Atoms. Being nigh-invulnerable, he got in the way to save others. The kicker though? Eldritch actually hurt him and left lasting damage, something that has never happened to Atoms since his transformation, leaving a permanent glyph-shaped colored scar in the center of his chest, and not only on Atom's containment suit, but his energy body as well. The team is still in awe about this. Whether the damage has any other long term effects is yet to be seen, but Deputy Atoms has taken to using the scar as his official superhero symbol. The glyph is a circled dot.

A lot of good stuff figured out since I last posted. I think our origin story is coming together nicely. I like how we're setting ourselves up as an outsider team that has to prove we're heroes. It expands the Beacon's theme into a larger team theme.

Also I don't think Ghost Dragon can go toe to toe with Wingblade. For starters, he can't fly.

I love this breakdown. Too cool. (And I'm just envisioning Wingblade going near berserker rage on Ghost Dragon, who is probably really glad he can phase, since her bladelike metallic wings are scary things.)

@Imagine: So you want a teenager who was raised in a lab to be a living weapon to show you what life is like in early 21st century Earth? :D This ought to be gooood.

But otherwise, I think teaming up before would be good. Our relationship could be the reason why the villain/hero sides of our team don't go too far before we call truce.

In last week's episode...

'Where is Atoms? Imagine mind-asked Wingblade as they were returning from successfully thwarting another jewelry store robbery.

"Downstairs," was the reply. "He...wanted some alone time."

'Ah,' the future-girl replied. 'Is he, what is the word you used, masturbating?'

"What? No! No, no...no. He just. Well, he's -emitting- again. He's working on a new containment suit. Something about too many rads. Or too few. Hard to be sure with him."

Imagine simply nodded and headed toward the basement.

"Wait! You fool! If you go down there you'll fry!"

'Long ago my people's genome was spliced with plant-life. We have an intrinsic photosynthesis mechanism that can counteract radiation. Over time.'

The girl dilated open the iron door and hovered down the lead-lined steps to the man working diligently over a carbon-lined suit.

"You shouldn't have come," he half-growled, pausing in his work, his body the only source of illumination the room had or needed. "In case your futuristic people don't know, too much radiation can be bad for you. So don't...get close to me."

Imagine titled her head cutely and considered the situation before her. She remained awkwardly silent as her head buzzed with mind-speak.
'I̛͢s̴ ̵ţ̸h͘e̴͢ ̵b͡҉͟ą̛se͢ ̢͢o̴̴͟n̕ the ̧̕f̢a̶r͞-͟s͢i͏̵d̢͜e͝ ̷o͘f̷͡ ̨̨t̴̸͜h̢͝͞e͠͝ m͝ó͏ǫn̛ ̡e͘͡st̡͡a̛b͢͏͜ĺ̢i͞ş҉h̢̀ȩ̀͟d͢͝?̨͞

A suit of strange, almost non-euclidean design, pieced itself together in Imagine's hand, like an 8-bit graphic downloading into reality.
'For you,' she said, hovering the suit over.

Frowning, Deputy Atoms grabbed the suit. It felt like sand in his grip, the material moving in barely perceptible ways. He tested the suit as she waited patiently, and found it to be adequate. Actually superb. The suit blocked radiation as well as six feet of depleted uranium. He...wouldn't have to worry anymore...but that's hardly the kind of thing to simply blurt out.

"Thank you," he said.

'I pleasure myself.

Ah...I mean.... My pleasure.'

The girl left.

Tycho really doesn't like Imagine. She's his mirror opposite: for her, using her telepathic powers doesn't draw her future destiny closer into being, and she isn't haunted by who she will become. At least, as he sees it.

Ya, I definitely don't like her...

But I like your character just fine. FYI...

December 26th Update

When our team got together, we were fighting outside, within, and underneath a medical research center within the heart of the corporate sector of Halcyon City. The real question to ask was what wasn't destroyed? Research projects, some minor and some major, were wrecked by our fight against the clone soldiers and Tectonic's parents. Cures and research has been pushed back by years because of our destruction but a possible threat was also eliminated.

Who is it?
General O'Toole, who sees us as a bunch of dangerous misfits that need to be dealt with. But whether he's part of the conspiracy or just a concerned citizen? No one knows for sure.

======================

It looks like the majority wants the iconic Halcyon HIgh to have a secret hero training program. This will allow me to introduce possible rivals to you all, and let you interact with heroes/ villains your own age as well as adults.

If you could write down if you'll be attending Halcyon High or Franklin High, I'd appreciate it. Assume you are all in the freshman class.

======================

Please (if you haven't already) assign who get's influence over you and fill out your relationships as well. This must be completed prior to play. Also, please mark that down as well in your next post so I can see it. Also in your alias as well.

Guys, I'm not gonna lie. I'm pretty stoked (is that still a term) about running this game. Hope you all are as well.

Shaun Adams - The Transformed

@Imagine
Love it! That's more than I could have asked for. Thank you very much.

@DM Default
I'm excited too!

School
Before the transformation, Deputy Atoms attended Franklin High. After though, he isn't allowed anywhere near the place. The Deputy did sign up for Halcyon High's special training program, but when he showed up he found an escort waiting for him, quickly ushering him away from the other students and isolating him in an underground chamber where he couldn't do much of anything except have strange tests run on him until it was time to leave. He kept going despite this, for about a week, but after that he just stopped coming back. Any members of the team who attend are occasionally asked to convince Deputy Atoms to resume his attendance.

The following have influence over The Transformed...

Ji-Wan "Vick" Zeng Conditions: Guilty; Potential 4/5; Delinquent

Hashtag is supposed to be attending Halcyon High; he was a ward of the system and the son of a super-powered villain, so the city's system believes that a proper education is the best way to prevent him from becoming one himself. However, he tends to skip classes and most often PE or gym, because that's for jocks. He, however, always manages to score perfectly on his grades because he actually studies when no one's looking. He works really hard to play it off like he's not trying. Really hard. With his powers.

Oh! I figured something else about his illusion powers! He believes they're illusions but, in reality, they're quasi-real objects that exist in the dimension he travels through to teleport. When he makes something 'disappear', he makes the image or sound/scent/etc pop over to the other side, and when he makes something 'appear', he takes something from the other side and moves the image of it to this world. That way, if his powers ever got 'stronger', he'd be able to conjure up illusions that fulfill more of the 5 senses, instead of just 1 at a time. And if he can do all 5... they'd be temporarily real, for all intents and purposes. This is all late-series comic revelation stuff though, like that whole reveal about Wolverine's powers being survival instead of regen.

@Deputy Atoms, I find it hard to believe that as a school they'd just be doing lab tests on you, as it would put them into the 'bad guys' side of things and that's... well, not a good idea considering how many heroes frequent the area. Just saying. It also isn't training if they just do tests on you either. :/
However, it's possible the first week of orientation was supposed to be used to figure out how they could best help prepare you for future heroics.
In either case (school is bad guys or good guys), your disappearance would not be met with a 'hey... can you ask him to come back... sometime? Please?' response. Bad guys would not let you leave in the first place and good guys would be VERY concerned there's a highly radioactive unstable humanoid somewhere out there that could lose control really easily because they have no training.

Influence over Hashtag:
Tectonic She's cool looking and made a strong first impression on him.
Deputy Atoms Hashtag thinks that Atoms has it worse than him, at least on some levels, and the fact he keeps plugging away is respectable.
Wingblade She's very serious and brooding, which has been a source of great fun for Hashtag. Also, he's vaguely aware she's been keeping tabs on him, but that's fine with him.

Relationships

I would love it if Hashtag and Tectonic's first 'meeting' started off as a fight between the two of us, but didn't really have a winner either way. Thinks were said, people were punched through pane glass windows, good times were had. (And dentists were later visited)

I also would like to be the guy that keeps giving Imagine not-quite-accurate information so she makes that kind of social faux-pas like the one written up about her and Captain Atoms. Because that not only pleases the character but it also amuses me the player.

School
======

Eldritch goes to Halcyon High, both to teach him proper education and to limit the chance of him losing control and no one being able to stop him. It has been a nice change of pace, there is less staring at the arcane marks that he has upon his skin.

However, there is still very much some of the same issues. Kenneth was originally one of the goth kids; prone to wearing black, looking good with eyeliner, painting his nails black, the whole nine yards.

There is still teasing, still the good ol' cliques, just with the added social layer of superheroic parentage and a healthy dose of "blue blood" mentality. Eldritch doesn't stress it too much, he sees the look of worry some of them get when he seems to get upset or give them a glare.

Relationships & Influence
=========================

For my demeanor, I've given Hashtag influence over me. He was one of the first people on the team to make Eldritch laugh with his pranks, helping wear down the wall the sorcerer has made around himself.

Eldritch hangs out with Tectonic all the time to blow off steam. Both of these heroes have come to realize their powers come with some heavy, destructive capabilities and keeping it all tight and constrained is tiring. Out in the boonies, with no one around, they can just let it out and use their power. This has led to the two of them becoming friends.

Eldritch once hurt Deputy Atoms when he lost control of his powers. Eldritch and the others were fighting Arachnes, this terribly quick spider mutant. Eldritch channeled too much power and would've probably harmed the captive citizens if it wasn't for Deputy Atoms jumping in the way. He left a mark on the man's armor and form, one that he seems proud to show off. Eldritch makes little mention of it and is terrified that Deputy Atoms secretly hates him now.

Edit: I'm also a little confused. Do relationships give us influence or give people influence over us? Just trying to remember, I'll be looking through the back posts.

Flashback -- before the teamup

Wingblade sighed as she punched in another answer and waited for the web-based tutor to signal if she got the question right. She glanced over her shoulder to see Whippoorwill practicing her katas behind her.

Don't you think I should go to an actual school? I've heard school is boring, but it's got to be better than this," she asked as the follow-up question popped up on the screen. "Isn't there a program for gifted students at HHS?"

"Doesn't matter; you're not going," Whippoorwill said, her flowing moves uninterrupted. "And before you begin, you know why. Schools throw a fit when a kid brings a pocketknife to class. You're wearing enough swords on your back to make Captain Ginsu jealous."

Wingblade swiveled her chair around. "Is that even a real guy?" Her mentor cracked a rare smile in response.

"You keep saying I need to learn control. That's what they do there!" the protege continued.

Her mentor shook her head and launched herself into the air with her big, feathered wings, beginning a series of tight aerial maneuvers. "You're learning my way. And my way will make sure that eviscerations are kept to a minimum."

Wingblade folded her arms and stuck out her lip in a pout. "That's hardly happening anymore."

Whippoorwill spun, corkscrewed and landed lightly in front of her ward. "Oh? And I'm supposed to be impressed by that? Always remember: you were built to kill."

"Okay! I get it!" she shouted as she turned her chair back to face the computer.

Whippoorwill folded her arms in front of her and kicked the back of the chair, spinning it back so the girl was facing her. "You have to do better. You have another name on your list. Let me hear it."

Wingblade slumped in her chair, but dutifully began listing the names and occupations of everyone she's killed while in the program that made her. When she reached the end, she takes a deep breath. "Shaun Adams. Student at Franklin High. He died... saving me."

Nodding, Whippoorwill went back to her exercises. "Get back to work," she said.

School

Wingblade is home-schooled. Maybe at some point during the game she'll enroll. That could be fun, going to school for the first time.

Relationships

Wingblade has influence over Hashtag, North Star, Ghost Dragon so far.

Also, currently on my phone, so apologies for the short post.

@Hashtag
Good points!

I guess I was telling the story more from Deputy Atoms point of view, who might be seeing it a lot worse than it actually was. The idea though is that enough tests were run during that timeframe of him attending that they've decided, for now, that they can content themselves with merely observing instead of issuing a city-wide manhunt. Still though, your objections are valid and I think it'd be cool if you were to raise them in-character, and have the Delinquent give a 'what the hell, hero?' speech to the Deputy. Because, to everyone else it went down like this: Atoms enrolls, they politely and understandably ask to run a few tests on him, and Atoms gets increasingly agitated over the next couple of days (maybe he doesn't even stay for a week, just a day or two) before he finally bolts and doesn't go back. Atoms says he's angry about the whole thing and that he felt treated like a monster, but it seems really clear that they were kind, trying to help, and honestly doing the right thing.

Of course, what actually happened/going on with the school is up Default.

EDIT: Something else to keep in mind is the whole innocent until proven guilty thing, as Atoms hasn't actually hurt anyone yet. Yeah, the research facility going down looks bad, but that was on the entire team, not specifically Deputy Atoms. And as for training... Well, I guess I'm not sure what he could be taught, as his powers at the moment are only being 'mighty' and invulnerable. He already knows how to take people down/fight effectively and use appropriate force thanks to his Sheriff Explorer training. Things are different now, of course, with the superpowers and everything, but he's essentially training himself by working outside the team as a full-time superhero.

@Wingblade
Awesome read! Made me happy.

I definitely want to write a flashback of my own now.

Angry, Insecure Potential 1/5

I'm back! I got my ass kicked, but it was still fun.

So I think I figured out how the Bull's Heart and Influence work. Only the Rival and the Love can actively gain Influence over Tectonic, though if she switches targets, the Influence that they gained over her still remains.

So, right now, I'm influenced by Hashtag and Ghost Dragon.

Ji-Wan "Vick" Zeng Conditions: Guilty; Potential 4/5; Delinquent

# Fiction:

The Halcyon Ultramax prison... Tartarus. Built to lock down the worst of the worst. The most powerful of villains. If you could bend bars, trick guards, break out, escape anything... Tartarus was where that shit stopped. Ji-wan Zeng knew more about how Tartarus worked than most people... after all, his mother managed to escape from it. Twice.

His mother, Seoyoon Zeng, was an ultra-fast and fit villainess that went by the name of Blink. She wasn't the longest range teleporter ever recorded, but she was the fastest and one of the wiliest opponents many heroes ever faced. It was rumored that at the peak of her career her teleportations were so fast and distortion-free that she could occupy two spaces at the same time.

She was imprisoned not because she had been defeated. She was there because she broke her own rules. Two heroes, Overdrive and Gearshift, were brutally murdered by her own hand, having been shattered like mirrors and scattered liberally across the entirety of Halcyon city. Within minutes of the act, she turned herself in, under the stipulation that her son would be taken care of. The two times she broke out, once was because young Ji-wan wasn't allowed a family visit, and the other because they refused to enroll him to Halcyon High...

Ji-wan stood in the front lobby of the prison and let the security guard close the bracelet around his left wrist. The quick-set system screwed the latch closed, and the power suppressor and tracking system engaged. The smooth steel casing was cold on his skin and uncomfortably tight, despite how smoothly the bracelet curved.

Once the other set of guards at a remote location confirmed it was operational, he was escorted through the prison. They walked along solid concrete halls, through sections of prison meant for minor-league chumps, towards the isolation row. The trip went through every security checkpoint along the way, dragging a 5-minute walk into a 45-minute slog.

Ji-Wan looked like he fit the part of minor-league chump; he had his hair slicked up in a fauxhawk this time, dyed bright purple, and his tanned skin had numerous piercings in his ears and nose. His jacket, a faded black denim one, had tears in just the right places. Under that he wore a simple off-white t-shirt bearing a Halcyon High Band emblem on it. Coupled with too-big jeans and half-laced combat boots, he seemed just the same as half the punk teenagers that were passed through this place in attempts to 'scare them straight'.

"Take a good look, kid." one of his two heavily armed escorts said loudly. "Maybe you'll be able to pick out where you'll be staying soon. Or maybe they'll fit you with a cell next to your mommy."

Ji-wan shook his head, glancing over at the big guy. Bruiser, huh? Gotta prove he's the tough guy. he thought. "Well, I hope not." He said aloud. "I kinda need *some* privacy, you know? Hard to 'take care of business' when your mom's literally watching you from across the hall. And with your mug I'd have a lot to think about while I do it." The young man's response is crude, as usual.

"F~** you too, kid." the guard replied. "Here it is."

He was shoved roughly into the meeting room. There stood a single table and two stools mounted to the floor. Four different power suppressors were mounted in the corners, and cameras watched them from nine different angles. Ji-wan rubbed his shoulder as the door slammed closed behind him and rolled his eyes. "So rough, man!" he griped, turning to the nearest camera. He squints at the lens, breathes on it and rubs the condensation off with his jacket sleeve. "Hey, does this thing get HBO?" he asked aloud.

To his surprise, a voice boomed into the room.

"NO"

Ji-wan shrugged. "What, you don't film the conjugal visits? Lame." he teased, but he sat down on the stool nearest him. He knew the protocol; he'd been required to visit his mother once a month as part of their conditions for her 'cooperation'.

The door on the far side opened, and his mother was wheeled into the room on a jack. Her arms, legs, and waist were bound with bulkier, more powerful versions of the suppressor on his arm, loops of thick, smooth, curved metal with no visible markings except for the seams and the screw-locks. Hers glowed faintly green around the edges.

"Ji-Wan!" Seoyoon exclaimed, wrapping him up in a hug before he could stop her. "What have you done with your hair? You look like a purple chicken."

"It's a thing, mom." he said, pushing her away after a few seconds. "I'm supposed to be here, so here I am."

"Good!" she said. "Are you eating? Not picking fights? Did you study your homework?"

"Mom." he said, irritated. "I'm fine. Just leave it, okay?"

His mother looked disheartened. "I'm your mother, Ji-wan," she replied. "I have to care, at least a little."

The young man shook his head. "Like you do anything for me, mom." he said. "Things are happening. I'm getting older, my powers aren't getting weaker, y'know?"

Seoyoon nods. "Your powers grow with you." she declared. "I've been hearing what some of the guards are saying and it has me worried, you understand? Something about you and some facility. Some other kids with powers? I'm worried."

Ji-wan glared at her. "Oh you're worried NOW?" he growled. "If you were so worried about me you would've been home. With me. And never did any of this crime bullshit! Instead, you're locked away in a f#+~ing hamster ball and I've had to figure all this shit out for myself. You don't regret leaving your eight year old son alone for HOURS at a time so you could run around in sexy spandex... but the moment I make a few friends who aren't total douchebags, you're WORRIED?" His voice has risen to an angry shout. In the back of his mind, even in his heart, he could feel the connection to his powers surging. "And my name is VICK now! I've told you a million times!"

"Ji-wan... I know you're mad but-" Seoyoon started to reply.

"Vick!" he screamed. His power surged against the suppressor, and he glared at her angrily. "This is going nowhere. I ain't coming back next month. I'm out!"

There was the sound of a mirror cracking, and suddenly the power suppressor on his wrist was hanging in midair where the young man used to be. One bloated second passed, and it fell to the cold concrete below. The alarms went off as the bracelet bounced on the cold stone floor.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Vick appeared at one of his favorite places, the tallest Halcyon city skyrise. It was a popular place for high-flying heroes to brood, and while he didn't feel like 'going full wingblade', he did enjoy the silence and cold air while he had a smoke. He found the tucked, out of the way alcove among the transmission and receiving equipment built for the company that used the building below, and reached under one of the terminals.
He wouldn't have been allowed to take smokes or a lighter with him into Tartarus, so he kept spare packs all over the city wherever he frequented. He lit up, took a pull, and coughed several times. He sat in silence for several minutes before he realized his eyes were watering. Touching his cheek, his fingertips were wet. It wasn't raining, so he sighed and wiped his eyes with his sleeve and shook his head.
"Just the cold wind, that's all." he lied to himself. He finished his cigarette and flicked it off the side of the building. By that time, the magnitude of what he did finally hit him. He tossed his head back and laughed, wiping his eyes again. "I think if I hadn't been so goddamn mad, I'd have just shit my heart out trying to make that jump. Ho-lee shit. I teleported OUT of a dead-watch."
He chuckled, looking over towards the Tartarus prison on the far skyline. Red lights were flashing on the rooftops. They were still looking for him.
"Heh, f@!+ it." he replied. "I just did something f@$*ing awesome. Can't wait to tell Tectonic about this."
To enable all the wacky hijinks to ensue when you take a gorgeous alien and mix in the completely ignoble intentions of a Delinquent, Imagine will attend whatever school Hashtag goes to.
OOC, I'd recommend that since much of the party that goes to school goes to Franklin, we go to that one. (You really think the beauracrats in the state would send you to the best school in town?? =)
Yes I do! Currently my reason is "if they don't put him in the nice school his mother, the villainess, will stop 'cooperating' with the police and actually try to escape. I am a little tired, but I think I included that in the fiction I wrote above.
Guys, I also need you to define your relationships as well. This is all decided pre-game. You need to specify which player character is applied to the questions in your relationship section. Like, if you could actually copy-paste the relationship question with the blank filled with a character name, and the space under use to elaborate, that would be great.
The more groundwork we do now, the less people get frustrated when a player takes too many liberties with the vagueness of the characters, setting, and relationships.
==============================
@Tectonic
Which one is your love and which is your rival and which (if any) are platonic?
==============================
@Imagine
Let player characters go where they want to go. I'm not forcing a school setting, and I can handle multiple sections of posting.
==============================
I still need some people to tell me specificially where they attend.
==============================
As I mentioned before, its much easier to run this game if you only keep track of who you personally have influence over, not who has influence over you. You can't use that second bit of information, Just concentrate on what you want to try and change or tell the other heroes. More fun that way.
Deputy Atoms is home-schooled like Wingblade. He did, however, attend Franklin High before his transformation.
Expanded Relationships
  • Wingblade knew Deputy Atoms before he changed.
    During an attack on the city, Deputy Atoms, then Shaun Adams, saved Wingblade's life. The event would play a key role in his transformation.
  • Imagine comforted Deputy Atoms when he was at his lowest.
    Although Imagine isn't human, she is trying her hardest to fit in, just like Deputy Atoms, and its always been encouraging to have someone to share the journey with. During a time when Atoms felt farther apart from humanity than ever before, she gave him the Theta Suit, and with it, the chance to walk among humans once more.
Awesome tweet! :P It would definitely be stuff like that, but also little observances about villains and heroes, map links to some of his recent 'art' pieces, and more sarcasm than should be healthy for most people.
We found signs that this incident was just the start of something bigger. What were the signs?
The signs were a financial paper trail indicating a source of outside funding for the lab and for the geokinetic soldiers that clearly showed these beings were just the tip of a possible conspiracy, as well as several status reports sent to an email address by Barney and Jill Tatum. The email address is now defunct.
Relationships
[blank] is awesome, and you take every chance you get to hang out with them.
You've got to prove yourself to [blank] before you feel like a real hero.
For the first blank, I'm going to make it Deputy Atoms, as they both have the strong desire to help others.
For the second blank, right now I'm choosing Wingblade, although once our Legacy makes their profile, I might choose them, instead.
Influence
The following have Influence over me:
Deputy Atoms - because of his past as a Department Explorer
Wingblade - because she's team leader and he has to prove himself to her
Tectonic - out of respect for what she's endured in her life thus far
I don't know that it makes sense for the Beacon to necessarily start with Influence over anyone, since he's fairly inexperienced at heroing and lacks any formal hero training.
---------------------------------------------
As for school, is there a less prestigious public high school in the city? Possibly one that doesn't have as much funding and isn't as good, in what might be a rougher part of town. I don't mind Halcyon High, but I'm not sure it fits with what I envision Ghost Dragon attending.
Also, Tectonic, Ghost Dragon totally has powers. He has phasing. And...well, okay phasing's it, but he knows martial arts. Not everyone does, so that makes it kind of like a power, right? Sort of? Maybe?
Answered the questions in this post, I just forgot to put them in the profile. Listed again here for ease of sight.
Also, you accidentally listed Wingblade twice on my "gave influence to" list. I gave Deputy Atoms, Wingblade, and Tectonic Influence over me.
Angry, Insecure Potential 1/5
Ghost Dragon is Tectonic's love. She's opened up to him about the worst parts of her past. (Platonic)
Hashtag is Tectonic's rival. He tried to control her at a crucial moment. (Platonic)
Since I've already shaped a lot of the story, Hashtag and Ghost Dragon can feel free to help me define my relationships with them.
Also, once she gets through her remedial course with Tycho, Tectonic is going to go to Halcyon High. I think the introduction of Imagine, North Star, and Tectonic to Halcyon High would be an interesting story arc.
Ji-Wan "Vick" Zeng Conditions: Guilty; Potential 4/5; Delinquent
Okay... how would I have tried to control Tectonic... probably trick her into doing something unsavory... What about tricking her into 'showing off' her powers, but it was actually meant to get her to do something that he didn't want to do?
December 26th Update
Posting to all my games
Just wanted to inform you all that I am currently wading through a veritable swamp of work, obligations, and schooling. As such, for the next two weeks of I do not guarantee my usual posting rate but will attempt to update games when I am able.
Happy Holidays.
Angry, Insecure Potential 1/5
Perhaps... Hmmmm... OOO! You know that idea that Atoms had that during the initial raid on the lab, the two different teams got confused and attacked each other? Maybe you tricked Tectonic into attacking her allies using illusions?
Ji-Wan "Vick" Zeng Conditions: Guilty; Potential 4/5; Delinquent
As a way of not getting punched in the face, Hashtag would definitely use that trick.
Angry, Insecure Potential 1/5
Yeah... Tectonic would get really pissed at that...
You hang out all the time with Tectonic to blow off steam.
Both of these heroes have come to realize their powers come with some heavy, destructive capabilities and keeping it all tight and constrained is tiring. Out in the boonies, with no one around, they can just let it out and use their power. This has led to the two of them becoming friends.
You once hurt North Star when you lost control of your powers.
Eldritch and the others were fighting Arachnes, this terribly quick spider mutant. Eldritch channeled too much power and would've probably harmed the captive citizens if it wasn't for Deputy Atoms jumping in the way. He left a mark on the man's armor and form, one that he seems proud to show off. Eldritch makes little mention of it and is terrified that Deputy Atoms secretly hates him now.
The Protégé - Wingblade
You and Imagine teamed up a few times before the rest of you came together.
It was rare that Wingblade was given leave to fly on her own. But it was a quiet morning after a dull night of patrol, so she was allowed to stretch her wings and do some flying in the hazy dawn.
Because of that, she was closest when her communicator alerted her to a Unknown Aerial Entity floating high above the Mercantile District. With Whippoorwill's voice in her ear constantly going on about the delicacy of first-contact situations, Wingblade boldly flew straight at the oddly colored being.
"...Hi."
Your mentor is cautious; she asked you to keep an eye on Hashtag.
Because reasons.
Male Human The Beacon | Condition: None
I imagine Ghost Dragon's pure enthusiasm for being a hero gives him a certain amount of ability to naturally allow people to open up about difficult things. He became a hero to help people, and while that can mean beating the villain of the week, it can also mean listening to someone who's going through a tough time.
