So I downloaded the Alpha rules, alot of pages to look at!
I heard there might be an assembly of the recently dead to play a practice adventure and that you might do the update of the characters to the new rules. If you have not already done it I would like to be in on the change over so that I might be more familier with the new stuff and character traits.
Will had those 2 prestige class will those still work?
Will we be able to swap out levels or feats for some of the new stuff?

The next time the group rests, the experience award will be 1162 xp. If that means you should level up, go ahead and level by the standard rules and send me your char sheet. I'll help you run the conversion to Pathfinder rules, then we'll compare. I think for now we'll continue on with the story and worry about getting your char sheets straight in parallel. If fighting comes up, we'll use the standard 3rd level chars until we come to a decision point on the Pathfinder rules. Lets use this thread for character leveling and conversion questions and keep them out of the main thread.
Sari is at 3227 xp, and should advance to third level. Pam, since I know you don't have access to your sheet, do you want to run the leveling through this thread? If so, are you taking another level of sorcerer?

It looks like I'm going up a level. You said I get a feat at 1st and at increments of three...that means third, correct?
For Ishah, this is the level that matters. When I reach 3rd, she gets two more hit die...she goes from 6hp to 23 with rolls of 5 and 8, +2 bonus to Natural Armor, +2 to Base Attack, +1 to Strength, +1 to Dexterity, Evasion and a new trick. For the trick, I'm going with Seek. By the way, I'm stil working on Guard. Takes four weeks and by my reckoning, we've made it all the way to day 5! Slow down captain, she can't take much more. I think she also gets a bonus feat. I'm working on my sheet tonight.

Cool. I'm up for a little while yet tonight, so I'll probably send you the stats as I think they should be for Ishah. I think you're getting (d4 + Wis) for Spell Points as well. And yes, you do get a 3rd level feat, so choose away.
There hasn't been any down time at all between scenes so far. That will shake out over the course of the adventures though. She'll probably know Guard before your fortieth birthday.

Yeah, I thought if we're ever able to get the table game together again, it might be cool to pick up the Spire of Long Shadows where you guys got mostly obliterated, and see if we can get any further with the new rules. Just converting (or recreating) those characters with the new ruleset is an evening unto itself I think. I'm definitely not upgrading them without y'all.
Will had those 2 prestige class will those still work?
Yes. There are some rules regarding conversion of prestige classes as well.
Will we be able to swap out levels or feats for some of the new stuff?
I think to some degree, yes. We want to test the rules with characters made to flex the changes, so I'm open to alternate feat choices and all that. The flavor of the characters should remain clearly the same, however.

The 1162 EXP puts Eberk at 2927 just shy of leveling unless you want to give him a few for his frightening experience with the quasit.
Yep, he certainly frightened that whatsit didn't he...did score an amazing backhanded, blind luck shot on her though.
DM, did you get my char sheets?

Pam, let's see... You need to roll:
d4 + 2 for new hit points.
d4 + 3 for new spell points.
Spend 4 skill points. From prior spending I would guess Knowledge(arcana), Concentration, Spellcraft, and then a 1/2 rank on Spot.
Pick a new 1st level spell. They are listed here.
And pick a new feat. You have Combat Casting and Toughness. I don't see a list of potentials anywhere, so did you have something in mind, or do you want suggestions? In case you need it, the feats are listed online here.

Alas, Eberk does not yet advance.
But for the purposes of comparing rule systems, Missy go ahead and advance him to 3rd level.

Once you've leveled up, go ahead and recreate the characters using the Pathfinder rules if you're comfy with them. Or I can help you out. Whatever you guys need... Ask questions here.
Just make the same basic choices where possible for the Pathfinder versions of the chars. You'll probably end up being more skilled since many skills were combined. The Alpha rules download has a character sheet at the end of the document. I have a couple printed out if you want one.

Wow...it's almost starting over. I've got most of it done. It looks like we'll have to reference both sets of rules now. Some things aren't changed by this set. A big one for me is the Track feat which I just added at 3rd level is useless to me since Survival skill contains everything that it will do. Also, I don't need Combat Expertise to get Improved Trip. Thus, I changed my feats as follows, Improved Trip, Alertness and Self-Sufficient. My IT feat is less potent, went from +4 to +2.
I don't have to take a -2 to Charisma and a +2 to Constitution now. I can choose a +2 as I see fit. I put this on Charisma. Brought my Cha from 8 to 12 and my Con from 13 to 11. W/O my Con modifier, my HP drop by three, from 22 to 19.
On my skills, I had 42 points to spend over three levels, now I have 24...ouch! But, suprisingly, most everything that counts is better. Some skills don't exist and some of my primary skills have changed, so I respent completely.
I can't figure out the spell situation. Are we still handling spell points the same way? Do I just keep using my same spell lists? Looks like my number of spells hasn't changed.
Most things relating to Ishah are unchanged. I'll probably work on it some more this weekend and send it to you.

Okay. Your post convinces me that I need to do a couple little spotlight posts on a variety of issues. We're definitely going to continue with the standard characters for now, and we'll have a little conversion conversation on this thread. One of the other things I'm weighing is the issue of the impending Beta release of the rules in August. There will be changes, particularly to how the new feats work. That shouldn't impact Cha's conversion, but there are bound to be some other changes. Dealing with changes as they happen will be part of the playtesting experience, and will probably cause us to have to revisit the converted characters a couple of times.

ok. I'll bite. Why would you have taken a +2 to constitution and a -2 to charisma originally?
On the skills, if you look over the Pathfinder rules for how you calculate your totals (add three to class skills, etc), you'll see that it's actually going to work out better for you in the long run. Maybe that's what you said and I didn't get it?
I think you're right about the Improved Trip being unhitched from Combat Expertise. I'll research that a bit more and get back to you.
With the spell points, I just needed to subtract a bit from the original table at certain levels to account for the fact that you no longer need to spend points or slots on zero level spells. Basically, everything still works the same. Your spells per day govern how many of each level you can cast that day, but there's no regulation on which of those spells you spend your actual points on. Really no changes except to the number of points you'll have. It'll be a few fewer. Pretty good trade for being able to spend zero level spells forever.
That's the tough thing about the wand of light you're proposing to spend on. Once we go Pathfinder, wands of light are pretty much rogue items.

Con/Cha...that was a late night error. When I click on a link, such as Humans, it actually takes me to the page below the link, so I was looking at the stats for Dwarves. I made the appropriate changes.
Yep, we agree on skills.
I didn't catch that stuff on the spells. Hadn't made it that far. Biggest change I've seen is skills and feats so far.
