So Cha whats up with all the triping and charging I'm a druid in the other game and I never do any of that, is it something I've been unaware of as a good attack method or what exactly is the reason??
It all started as a result of some rather average ability score rolls. A lot of feats are not available to me. Combat Expertise and Improved Trip were. With goblins, I have a huge advantage to trip them...so do you I might add...+4 for size. Combine that with Imp Trip +4 and my Strength Bonus +1, the odds of me putting them on the ground are quite good. My initial attack is a touch attack, so I'm attacking a lower armor class (12 vs 15 for a goblin with a shield). Generally speaking I've got a good chance to get them on the ground and once they're there, an improved chance to hit them. And if I miss, I still get to swing at them when they stand up. It's convoluted but effective.
The Charge is something I experimented with. It allows you to attack someone when you usually couldn't. My movement is 30', I can cover 60' at a run and attack at the end of the run without provoking an AoO, at a +2 to hit. It puts me at a -2 to AC for the remainder of the turn, but it could be worth it.

There are a shit-ton of combat options that never see use at our table. fighting defensvely, feinting, tripping, charging, fighting with total defense, etc.
BTW, a smarter combatant would use his 5' step to roll out of threat range before attempting to stand, thus not necessarily provoking an AoO. I'm intentionlly playing stupid monsters as stupid.
The other thing that led to the tripping attack is the use of a tripping weapon - the sickle.

You know there are no worries here. If I feel you're input is critical for something, I'll send my goons to come knocking on your door. Don't make me send my goons!
Seriously, Pam's responsible for this particular mini-game anyway. Beat her up and take her lunch money if you can't come up with a song.

Chuck Damel |
Dude, that was found money and we shared with her. We usually do....unless your little sneaky character is holding back?
Well shes not really part of our group, we did save her life after she led us into a trap, we killed one of her enemies, she lives in the woods cause she doesnt like to be in town. 2 platinum? she will probably just spend it on bunny chow for her freinds in the forest!
I'v still got 64 gold 4 sliver and 3 copper from the 100 we got earlier
maybe I'll spend some on itching powder.
You want to see sneaky? Deal!

Chris C. |

Here was my reasoning for my suggestions on how to split the loot. 1plt = 50gp. In the real world of Sandpoint however, I doubt 1plt will be worth more than 35gp. Hard to spend when very people can make the change. The lesser healing costs 50gp and the better healing more. Bow's got to be worth at least that. Way I see it, I got 50gp worth, Shalelu and Sari got 70 each, Eberk at least 70 or so and Yod...dunno, 70-100, maybe more. I should be the one complaining...I paid the hotel tab for us all when we left town before and I'm taking in the least from the booty. I'm good with whatever though.

Hey gang. Here's a tasty treat that's fun to eat. In another PbP thread where I'm a player, they use the spoiler tag when they need to post their character's combat turns out of order. Of course, generally posting out of order is to your disadvantage, since the tactical situation may change between your post and your actual action.
I'd still rather you wait for your turn (which y'all generally do), but there are occasions where doing it helps the game move along. So if you think you need to post out of order, do it in a spoiler just to me. When your turn comes up, I'll resolve it and move on to the next character.

Sorry for the de facto TPK tonight in Savage Tide. The group ran into three-too-many mummies in Dark Mountain Pass, and are now mostly corpses in some old Olman catacombs. RIP Mika and Lissa, and a cast of NPCs. The Olman monk/druid Zahn got away though, and with the ability to wildshape...

Is this the campaign you're playing at home? Only Chuck survived?

It's our yearly week-long at the mouse house. Gotta use the annual passes if you're gonna pay for them. Now's the time if you can manage it, since the spring break thing hasn't started yet. The weather should be kickass. I'm going to ride a few rides, eat like a pig, and play with my kids. And not go to work. And read Pathfinder 6 - last installment of this adventure path we're doing here.

Have fun. I guess I'll keep going to work a few more days. Speaking of spring break, Lori was serious about coming down there for a long weekend during and bringing the boat. I've told her to email you guys the dates but I don't think she has.

![]() |

Hopefully we can work that out.
We're back from vacation. I got food poisoning the next to last day and spent the last night throwing up. We bailed on the final day. Hopefully the Damel's had a good final day to make up. Pam's got some kind of brochial plague, so we're definitely glad to be home :/
Anyway - roll initiative b++#$es! I have some digestive aggression to vent!

Chris C. |

Luke/Pam, Kayla's last day of school before spring break is Thursday, March 27. She goes back on Monday, April 7. What we were thinking was coming down on a Thursday afternoon/evening and leaving on Sunday or Monday, bringing the boat, doing some fishing/boat riding for a couple of days. We're thinking we'll just get a hotel room close to your place. Let us know what you think.

![]() |

That works. We're open - I will just need to get rid of primary call responsibilities - otherwise no boating for me (have to be callable and within 1 hour of putting fingers on keyboard). I'm the boss, so it shouldn't be an issue finding someone to trade weekends with me. :)

![]() |

Oh yeah - and of course we'll help you find a good hotel room, but you can also stay here. Finding a sleeping place for Kayla is no problem, and we can set up the robotic inflatable mattress in the study if you guys just want to crash there. Not alot of privacy, but you can't beat the rate. No worries - your call.

It really doesn't matter to us either way, but since we're talking about coming for a few days, it might just be less traumatic on everyone. Kind of figured Kayla would stay there regardless, since she'll probably be asleep earlier than we'd leave anyway. I'll give you a call next week and we'll talk about it.

Okay, boys, back to the game.
Have we covered everything? Asked all we can think of? I'm still slightly confused as to exactly what is going on. We have a girl who's trying to turn into a demon.....is there all ready one in the picture(the reference in the journal to a quasit)? Do we have what we need to fight something that is immune to fire and regular damage? And are the tunnels the only way to go, or is there another way to go?

Looks like we're heading into the tunnels, like it or not.

Melissa |

I am not sure we are qualified to be fighting demons yet. I think we definetley need to find some weapons and healing potions before we go into the tunnels. At the very least we could take some armed guards to stand behind. I mean it is their town, they could at least send some demon fodder down with us. If the towns people are not willing to help us why should we bother to stick our necks out.(besides for the experience points that is)
so said the disgruntled dwarf

I moved the discussion on religion over to here. I read the story/article you sent me. Pretty cool. From the PHB I couldn't figure out where religion/Shoanti's and druids came together, if at all. I still haven't put my finger on it. Obviously, they're the modern day equivalent of indians. Both have shamans, which implies religion. For my personal character, beliefs in gods isn't a top priority. I can't see where he needs to, so he's doesn't. He's more focused on Natural vs. Unnatural. Trees, rocks, streams are natural, thus follow the proper order of things. Goblins, giant spiders(esp. these), demons, etc. are not natural, rather perversions. These should be eliminated.

Sorry dude. I miss crap on this thread all the time. I plan on doing tie ins between the plot and all your characters' backgrounds, and I've got some good stuff I think - all of which is flexible enough that any of you can add as little or as much to the flavor of your character as you want. The pace of PbP is very slow, though, so it's going to take awhile to tie them into at least the backdrop, if not the plot itself.
As far as my thoughts on the forest barbarians, I kind of envisioned the Shoanti overall as a Cimmerian (Conan style) culture. Given your lack of religious knowledge, you're probably into ancestor/hero worship if anything at all.
There is a blurb in the Player's Guide about the druids of Churlwood. The account in the Burn Run article of the shaman appearing as an elemental fits with druidic shapechanging. In their case, they worship a force of nature in the sun. Perhaps the religious beliefs of the forest barbarians trend the same? That would support the existence of druid circles in Churlwood. Ties between plains Shoanti shamans and forest Shoanti shamans would probably be something that binds the tribes together.
In this way, your character could be something of a shaman-in-training as he pursues the ways of the druid.
Also, you need a minimum of 4 more hours of good rest to recoup all your points.
Aside: Getting bumped form the tourney by Bama sucks arse! NIT, here we come. 'Least Billy's still our boy!

Also, we need to get a game together while y'all are down here at the end of the month. I'll try to snag a one-shot adventure of some sort. A couple of possibilities come to mind. Lori will play, right? If she does, we might have a party of six... sweet!

That works for us. I'm sure she'll play. If you figure it out ahead of time, we'll start working on character creation. Took me forever to do my last one.
Looks like Kayla has a soccer game the Thursday we're planning on coming down. I think we're still coming that night, but we probably won't pull in until around 10pm or so. I'm thinking maybe you, me and someone else can take the boat out fishing one day and the girls could take the kids somewhere (maybe we'll just tell them we're going out for milk or something and not come back until dark). Rest of the weekend we could just play by ear. Can't fish 7 out of it, but we can take it and cruise the bay and take in the sites for a few hours one day, check out some islands/beaches/shells. We're open to suggestions. I've marked all the known reefs in my GPS as well as a couple of boat ramps I could find.

Yod Akarn |

More about Disarm. I'm thinking about taking the Ranseur, first the Ranseur is a two-handed weapon so I would get the +4 on the opposed roll for disarming or being disarmed if I miss. However in the PHB the descirption of the Ranseur say that it gats a +2 to those rolls, does that mean I would get a +6?
I didn't see any other two-handed weapons with any such bonus. Of course I would have to use a precious feat to use the Ranseur but it might be worth it to get a +6 on disarm attempts. Also I whould have to get Combat Expertise and Improved Disarm to get maxium use out of it.
What say you DM Luke ??

![]() |

Here's another yes and no answer. Ranseur is 2 handed and should qualify for the +4. Additionally, it says in the weapon description that you should get an addition +2, and it makes sense given the nature of the weapon. So yes, I think +6 is the inherent bonus to disarm with the weapon. That's the good part.
Here's the bad part. As you note, without Improved Disarm, you will provoke an AoO. Further, without first spending a feat on Weapon Proficiency(martial), you get a -4 to all uses of the weapon. Lastly, as a reach weapon, you can attack foes 10' away, but not adjacent foes.
You're free to take the weapon and use it, just bear these restrictions in mind when you do.

Yod Akarn |

Can I still do flanking from 10' since it's a reach weapon?
So by the time I have the feats to use the Ranseur properly I'll probably have about a +10 ATK +4 for two-handed +2 for Ransuer +4 for Improved Disarm So rolling a 1 would give me a 21 to the opposed ATK.
Talk about Schnitzel dribble.

Chuck Damel |
Just a quick question...didn't you say this thing looked like a pitch fork or something? I'm thinking a pitchfork might not be the weapon of choice for a rogue...hiding in shadows, sneaking up behind people kind of thing.
Well yes not the typical rogue weapon, but I could sneak attack from 10' away. Could also be usefull if I was down on hitpoints attacking from out of range of the foe.
Eberk could use it without penalty right now, not really his style though.

![]() |

Chuck, I was looking at another thread when someone pointed out a FAQ ruling from Wizards on the disarm question you raised earlier and the definition of 2-handed weapon. That thread is here. In light of that, you do qualify for the +4 for using the morningstar two-handed.

Hey folks. The 3rd release of the Pathfinder Alpha ruleset is coming out (maybe this week), and I was thinking of converting our game to that ruleset. I think you guys (and gals) are probably getting close to an advancement to 3rd level, so that might be a great time to go ahead and make the conversion. What do you guys think?
The rule book will be a free download from this site. With the 3rd release, all the core 11 classes will be covered. This ruleset is conceived as a fix-her-up of the 3.5 rules we've been using. Game balance issues are being addressed, and some very complicated rules are being simplified.
One ramification of this, however, would be that the automatic spreadsheet you guys are using would no longer work. Also, I will need to look back through my spell point variant rule system and re-think balance issues.
Anyhow, its an idea. Perhaps the best thing to do would be to convert the characters and look them over. If you like the way things are changing, we can go forward with them, otherwise we'll just level up the 3.5 standard characters we have and go from there.

![]() |

They're mostly the same. That's the value proposition for Pathfinder rules. The adventures I have still work because they're committing to backwards compatability. Yet there fixing some things that are awkward. I think in general characters are more flexible and more powerful. You can download the Alpha 2 version of the rules here, though the Alpha 3 are coming out soon. The Beta will follow in August, which will still be a free download. Eventually, there will be a mongo hardback version of the rules, but that's more than a year away.
