If you think Dumah would have cast mage armor on himself prior to getting close to the mill, since it does last 2 hours, let me know. I know I accelerated the combat before you had a chance to post.

Quzman thanks his gods for the protections of his armor and then proceeds to land a powerful blow to the side of the winged creature's skull, as the creature is off balance from the charge attempt. He hears some of the creature's face bones crack and first blood is drawn by the warrior. The creature screams in pain and anger.

Great blow, Quzman! In the dice rolls, it looks like you were using d6 for your bow. Didn't you take a longbow from that last group of gnolls? That would bump you up to d8.
Dumah wrote: I haven't seen one of these since 1st edition and my misspent youth, so I'm not sure which skill would be appropriate to learn more about them... Actually, it's Arcana, since it is a magical beast, which makes your roll a 17. Yes, you recognize the creature as a Peryton, vicious carnivorous predators. Their most deadly attack is with their horns and it is said they have been known to rip out the heart of a victim with their teeth when they land a killing blow!

The Peryton, still reeling from Quzman's powerful bludgeoning hit, screams, "I shall kill you all!", and focuses its primary attack on the Badawi warrior, hoping to eliminate the threat so it can focus on the pesky rogue behind it. It lowers its head and brings it up quickly, attempting to gore Quzman. The beast's speed surprises Quzman and the horns gash him from his belly button up to his neck, gutting his armor. Great job guys!
As soon as the monster falls, Jarva immediately begins looking around to see if the monsters screams might have been heard by the gnolls. If it appears that nothing is on the way, Jarva will search the take a look around the building.
The party does not sense that anyone has been alerted.
1d10 ⇒ 4
Jarva looks around the building and only finds stray eagle feathers on the ground surrounding the mill. The doors to the mill are closed and there are blood stains on the ground in front.
"Quickly guys, let's get this thing in the mill, so no strays will see the corpse. We still might have surprise on our side," Jarva whispers, grabbing a talon, and attempting to move it.
With Quzman and the party's help, Jarva is able to drag the 200+ pound dead Peryton into the mill. You do notice that you do leave a wide trail of blood leading into the mill now. Inside, sunlight filters into the mill through the broken roof and missing planks. You see small animal bones all over the place (look like goat to Jarva). In the corner, you see pieces of wood and feathers that seems to form a nest where the creature slept. Also, you find many bird droppings around the place. You also see small mounds of dirt/sand all over the place.
"Bahiyy, could I borrow your shovel? We can use these piles of dirt to hide some of the blood trail we left dragging this inside. That might give us a few more minutes to recuperate," Jarva suggests.

Eli wipes the foul blood off of Tempest on the odd beasts hide. He blinks as the gore stuck to his fine clothes vanishes and with a knowing nod to Dumah he says, "Thanks friend, I needed that." As the others drag the corpse into the mill he does his best to kick and push sand over the blood in hopes of disguising the trail. Once inside he finds Quzman and with genuine concern says, "You are taking a beating from our foes, it's a blessing that we found Bahiyy to come with us. I know you are a fierce warrior, but I worry that you keep taking such nearly fatal wounds. It would tear my heart if you were to go and join Kyra too soon. Is there not someway that we can protect you better?"

Quzman looks at Eli a moment, and then reaches out a hand and clasps his forearm strongly, "I truly thank you for your concern my friend. Things have been dangerous to say the least. I normally prefer to be lighter on my feet, but I something heavier might be more prudent in our current endeavors. Maybe we will find something more protective than this studded leather in our travels, or maybe not. I can not help but wonder what will happen when we fight the demon, but right now, we make due with what we have, and survive the best we can. It is the only way I know."
He then turns to help Jarva pull the body into the mill and cover the tracks as best he can and helps search the mill.
Bahiyy using the breastplate from the Captain isn't a character issue, but I don't think Quzman would feel comfortable in that (or Kyra's chain shirt). It was partially due to limited funds at creation, and looking back now, partially thinking PF rangers needed light armor to use their combat styles like 3.5 that he stayed in light armor. If he survives a couple more levels, I think he'll start turning around some with more HP to absorb more of a beating.

Among the various dirt piles in the mill, besides bones, Eli's keen eyes find a half-buried scimitar in one and a silver ring in another. Both items glow magical after the casting of Dumah's spell. Hey guys,
Sorry for the delay, couldn't get posts in most all weekend from getting dumped. The split put forth by markofbane sounds fair to me.
Lucendar, I was looking into the companions that rangers get at 4th. Would it be appropriate to find a stray dog in town that would serve?
Oh, his ability point went to DEX, and skills were used reinforcing current skills.
Gerald wrote: I concur. Let's break it up that way. I am fine with giving the gems to the archers and the armor to Garavel as well.
Also, do we want to start a group fund now, for things like wands of CLW, raise dead scrolls, etc?
A group fund sounds good. We can split the cash value treasure into 6 shares. One to each member of the party and one into a group fund. Who will be the party treasurer?
Keep in mind we also have a bit of credit with the potion maker. However I am about to in character go talk to him about a cure for Dumah and Bahiyy.
EDIT: Do you want me to be the treasurer since I already am keeping track of the items and treasure found? I dont mind doing it.
If you don't mind tracking it, that would be great.
I second that motion. You've done a great job with the treasure tracking.
Okay I will keep track, I will calculate a total of valueable that we have and update my chr sheet to refelect a group treasure pool. Remember I have a notes section that everyone can look at too. If you think of notes I dont have let me know and I will add them.
I totaled up the gold we have found since we started and split it into six shares. Each of the players earns 595 gold and the group has 596 gp in party funds. We also have
4 Persian Rugs (25gp each)
8 short swords
5 morning stars
4 kukri
8 waterskins

2 pick axes
3 bags of grain
2 bags of wheat
12 longbows
12 battle axes
4 suits of leather armor (scorched)

7 chain shirts

I suggest we give the shovels, pick axes, grain and wheat to the villagers for use in getting the town running agian.
Sounds good. I have no problem giving those items you listed toward the town start up effort.
Has anyone checked that halberd for magic? Maybe it is vorpal, the way it sliced Jarva's noggin off!

Sounds good to me, I hope the disease won'T be that big of a burden, or bahiyy levels to 5 soon.....
Next time we could probably try with a heal check for Bahiyy by Quzman, and maybe assists are allowed as well? This way, some could help Bahiyy in treating Dumah.
I believe Dumah checked everything for magic. If he hadn't, then he will.
The halberd was masterwork quality only.
What do you guys think? I doubt there is enough in the church to level us up to 5. Do we charge into the church hoping to find curatives, or do we wait out the disease and see if Dumah and/or Bahiyy manage to make some effin' fort saves? I think I need to roll in the mid- to high-teens twice in a row to kick this. I'm willing to try it though. Like I said, I do have a back up character in the works...
I say the characters at risk make the call. I am fine for storming in now, before things get worse, but I am not the one down several con points and hps, either.
Aye, it's up for mark and pete to make the call really on if they want to try and rest/recover some. Quzman will do his best to treat the disease, and give you a boost on the save attempt anyways.

Sorry for the delay on posts. This first class is a very intensive intoduction to seminary course and they have us reading a TON of information plus writing responses nightly and over the weekend we had two field trips. I will try to keep up, class ends wednesday and the regular semester starts the second week of Sept. Once this week is over things should be able to manager my time better and keep up on a post each day better. Thanks for all the patience.

I won't npc anyone else since you all have more options and I don't want to assume tactics for you, which may or may not save the day against Xulthos.
So, Dumah makes a sarcastic crack that draws attention to Ty, and Ty turns around and punctures Dumah? Wow. Thicken the skin a little, dude. :)

It will complete the comic effect if he one-shots Dumah to la la land.
Woo hoo! Two misses, thank goodness.
Awesome shots! And by awesome, I mean terrible! Thanks! :)
He could have taken one hit and been up. Barely. If both had hit, he would have been slain.
M almost human
So all out attack then, with Ty and Quzman gone, hope Bahiyy's hit (AC22 even without the +2 for being invisible) did enough damage....
What an opponent, 4 attacks which barely miss, magical abilities, miss chance, and more then 100hp, ouch.
And it did! Whooh, sorry to strike only once and deal the fatal blow - but at least all survived! And tes Ty's crit was th turning point I'd say.
Wow. That was an awesome fight with an incredible finally. Well done!
BOO YA! That was one sick fight. WAY TO GO TEAM. I thought we were done for when Eli went down in one blow and the rest of you were attacking each other! Way to go Pete, keeping us all alive and dealing the final blow!
Great job guys to all of you for keeping this PbP fun and exciting. More cheers from the crowd.. You have finished Book I of the Legacy of Fire. Now, the AP assumes there is a time jump of 1 year, wherein your character may do any of the following, each with its own small benefit at the end of the year:
1. You may become an administrator in the village
2. You can open a business
3. You can open a shrine to your god
4. Explore a personal mystery for your character, if you have one
5. Patrol Kelmarane Hinterlands
6. Rebuild
7. Research
8. Travel
9. Something else of your own creation, I am versatile.
Think about it and let me know.
I think Dumah will do research. He'll probably spend some time here and there on other things (helping rebuild intially, help patrols when a strong threat is nearby, etc.). But for the most part, research. The near death experience of demon fever has focused him more on dealing with threats from other planes. Patrolling is probably his second choice.
He will also need to know what Haleen is doing. The issue of her debt weighs on Dumah, who feels a need to help in some way.
Can we craft magic items during this time? I believe Bahiyy has Craft Wonderous Items, and Dumah was looking at taking a Craft feat or two at 5th level.
Yes, definitely you can craft and do other stuff. In addition, if you have the APG and you want to make tweaks to your character, the year off makes perfect sense in game as to how your character learned new stuff, etc..
Tyronel might look at the archer archetype in the APG, fits his character thematically. Allows you to do cool stuff, like a ranged disarm at 4th level, if I'm not mistaken.
The option is open to all.
